Portege T230 has no option to boot from USB portable CD room?

Hello

In the bios boot menu, I can't find anything related to the external CD room. In the list, I have only 3 things.

HDD/SDD
FLOPPY DRIVE
LAN

How I suppose at the start of the external DVD room provided with the laptop?

The room-the model is PST4EL-00t00G. I checked the latest BIOS for this model, but it seems that there is no update to this BIOS.

Thank you.

Have you bought T230 already used and this external device was part of the package?
When you start T230 and press F12 to get into the start menu are the same devices listed as bootable devices?

To be honest, it's a little confusing because you should be able to create the recovery USB key and use the USB as a boot device (page user's manual 29).

I'd love to start my Iconia Tab 8 W of a USB, UEFI has the option to boot from USB or PXE so that I do not suspect that it supports that in one way or another.

Currently I have no luck with a simple OTG drive, I am able to access it from the same created the boot of Windows media, but no chance to see the drive in the menu of the UEFI (even the start menu only sees the Windows boot loader).

  • Need to boot from USB device with my Portege 7020ct

    Hello!

    I need help!

situation: me and my girlfriend go on a long trip on Tuesday. We have to work, so we bought a second hand portege 7020ct.
However, there is no CD or diskette drive. Win98 is installed but no drivers for the modem. infrared can locate other computers, but is not able to connect.
so the rare thing I have is a usb connector.

I want to install win2000 or at least put some data on the hard drive.

So I need to use my external cd drive or usb key. the problem is, the system (usb port) find the external hard drive and the USB, but I need to install drivers to prepare! But how? --> no internet, no floppy drive, no internal cd, without infra-red...

    What can I do?

I tried to get into the bios to see if it is possible to boot from the usb slot, maybe get the external drive runnin and then install win2000.
but I can´t know how to get into the bios! .. .but I m don't know if it will work.

    Hi Deko,

The key in the power up takes you to the BIOS settings.

Installing the drivers could be difficult. I have a 7010CT and there is no option to boot from USB (only floppy - HDD - CD - lan). I don't think that Windows 98 supports USB sticks without additional drivers. I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 by using a PCMCIA cdrom external and from the installer of Windows 98. Maybe you could try to use a network card PCMCIA to try to find a disk for the Portege.

    Hey hpng,

I am pleased to hear that the option is now available. When you set up a dual boot with Linux, I have very little information on how to do it. The only thing I would say, is to read the document "frequently asked Questions (FAQ) on Linux". It has a lot of frequently asked questions, but the main reason is, to the bottom of the page you will see an option to where I can find more information about Linux.

Depending on what version of Linux you want to install, I suggest you post your question on the Linux community.

    I hope this helps!

I realized that, since the post, you did.

I suggested RUFUS and EFI create setup of windows due to the startup problem, that you have with the Elitebook 840.

It may be just what you need for this particular laptop.

If you want this to work, then you must be flexible and willing to solve the problems.

  • Boot from USB device on Inspiron 5520

    Hey guys,.

I got a new Inspiron 15R 5520. The problem is that I can't start the laptop from a USB key like I did on N5040 (my 2 year old laptop), and there is no option to do this. First of all, I hit "F2" to enter the BIOS Setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: hard drive, CD/DVD, network. I restart the computer and press "F12" to select the boot device, still no USB.

  • How can I boot from USB - Portege A200

    Hello

I have a Portege A200 which is only a couple of years, but the hard drive no longer works. Initially, I thought that this was due to corrupt the boot disk record, but after trying to replace the drive hard (with two different readers), is showing a #0 IDE error when starting. So I came to the conclusion that the IDE controller chip is dead.

In order to get labour latop, I burned a cd with the ubunto ISO. It starts off ok but due have only 512 MB of RAM, the system is somewhat limited and nothing installed is lost each time that I reboot.

Now, I bought a 2 GB flash drive and installed ubuntu on it. My other problem is that there seems to be no boot from USB HDD or USB option in the bios.

The options I can think of are:
    (1) Upgade the bios so that it supports the start of memory stick (although no HARD drive so do not know how I could reflash the BIOS or if there is even an upgrade of the BIOS that would support this feature)
    (2) create a cd that starts the boot process then tells the system to continue the initialization of the USB key (this is possible and does anyone know where I might be able to get these software)
    (3) boot from CD but the use of USB to keep any recorded information / everything installs etc (I suppose that similar to option 2 except the cd would manage the entire OS and USB would just "extra" information)

If there are other options if someone may think I am happy to give them a go. Seems a shame to have to chuck to a laptop that is not particularly old, because the IDE controller chip has failed on the mobo.

I have apppriciate any help anyone can offer.
    Thank you very much
    Mark

    Hello

First I have to say that it of not possible to boot from the external USB device as USB, CD/DVD USB drive or USB HDD.
It of only possible to boot from the external USB FDD (floppy) disk

However, no opportunities for startup are clear, but I think that you misunderstood the IDE #0 error message. According to m that the IDE controller is not defective but only the new drive HARD is not compatible and not recognized by the BIOS.

There are different reasons for this problem
For the most part this error message appears if the HARD drive master/slave/c-salt settings are not correct.
Generally these settings don t need to be changed or switched on the 2.5 hard disks but some hard drives support a rider that needs to be fixed in the correct position. But I put t if your HARD drive supports this

In addition, the size of HARD drive isn't is not compatible could be the reason for these error messages!
I would recommend so finally communicating with ASP in your country to get a new, compatible HARD drive and see if the same error still occurs.

    Good luck

  • Is Portege 244 OCT - possible to boot from a CD external-ROOM

    Hello

I just have an old Toshiba Portege 344 portable OCT with a 6 GB HD and a processor intel Pentium III 500 MHz processor and 128 MB of RAM. For the moment I got it under Windows XP Home Edition. I would like to go back to Windows 98SE, but the computer does not have a floppy drive or a CD-ROM internal. It has a usb port, however. I'm trying to start the windows 98 cd from a cdrom drive external usb (EZ - DUB), but it does not work. I don't seem to find an option to boot from a USB device no more. My bios is June 27, 2001.

Is there something I can do in order to manage to start my computer from my EZ - BUB? and how can I update my bios to the v1.6 without the floppy drive?

    Thank you

I forgot to ADD. An external USB floppy drive would do the trick?

  • Portege R500-12 s - problem of recovery (Boot from USB)

    Hello

I tried several days reinstall this laptop (Toshiba PORTÉGÉ R500-12 s). I reinstall drive, but it has no CD-ROM included, so I'm fighting with booting from the USB port, with my external hard drive. Those that the BIOS loads even boot from USB? Because there is no alternative USB inside the boot priority. I noticed that I can choose from, what I think is alternative of different startup in start up, when I press the F12 key. When I press the F12 key and choose USB, I just pup up to a similar cmd command line.

Reinstall is the only option because my laptop is super slow, and I have no restore file (CD) on my laptop

Ultimately is it possible to reinstall windows via USB boot, or do I have to buy an external CD-ROM drive? Which is the last thing I want to do. Advice or assistance on how I'm going to do this?

    Thanks in advance :-)

I put t know if this is possible, but if you can visit Toshiba service in your city, ask them for help. They have all the external devices and also external optical drive.
Buy a coffee and ask if they can install just image recovery using your recovery DVDs. I m that they will help you with this.

By the way: you can not install OS using the recovery saved on the HARD disk image. Laptop can't see it.
What you need is the optical disk drive.
Also, try to borrow a somewhere.

Boot from an additional media under Windows 8, you will ensure that you have either disabled Secure Boot or changed to UEFI in the traditional mode.  The following articles describe how to do this.
