PowerEdge 2850 perc 4e/di has no road

I just want to confirm before I replace the failed drive with someone who has experience. I am running openmanage have 2 virtual disks raid 1, the 1st shows two thin discs. The 2nd shows a failed drive. These are hot swappable disks and I have some records of exact replacement on-site. It seems too simple that change to the new drive and clicking on rebuild the right?

Server always remains online during the reconstruction of the new correct player? If the performance of the server are reduced during the reconstruction could I for the day exchanging the defective drive again and then open a session remotely late into the night and click on rebuild? (I can't access it remotely, no problem there).

Just never failed before and looking for someone who has been there and a heads-up.

Thank you

Youngfam,

That is right. The server remains online. From there you remove the failed drive and then after about 20 seconds, insert the replacement. Now the raid controller should automatically start this reconstruction for you, but if not then you would need to do a manual rebuild or assign the replacement as a spare drive, resulting in its reconstruction.

This is the manual for the Perc 4e/di - http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/Common/dell-perc-4-di_User's%20Guide11_en-us.pdf

It contains additional information regarding new buildings and replacing failed hard drives.

Regarding performance, the default rebuild rate is 30%, so it affects performance a bit during the reconstruction. Not to where users would notice, unless under a heavy load.

If you remote access to the best way to control the reconstruction, and everything would be to install Open manage server administrator on the server. It will allow you to monitor and manage the health of the server and the controller. You can get OMSA here - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-2850?driverId=G2WT6&osCode=WNET&fileId=2883471492&languageCode=en&categoryId=SM

Now with installing OMSA he will call to reset, so you can schedule downtime if you want to install this package.

Let me know if this helps and answers your questions.

I'm trying to give a sense of the info in OMSA 2.1.0 for a RAID 1 virtual disk on a server Poweredge 2850 + Perc 4e/Di.   Array disk 0:0 died at an unknown point in the past.  Info OMSA before replacing the drive:

We have added another 0:0 drive, he rebuilt successfully automatically and this is the current info:

So the State of the virtual disk RAID-1 is is more "degraded" and yet it is still showing only 0:1 Hitachi disk array and not the new 0:0 Seagate.  How this should be interpreted?  We also have another virtual disk raid 10 on this same server with discs model even who had also a drive down and replace this trained player the new Seagate drive not appearing in the table of Raid-10 list as expected.  the difference was that the Raid array-10, the original disk was displayed in OMSA as 'impossible', while on RAID-1 above, no other player has been listed.

It should show the other disk.  A few things to try:

    • Refresh the screen VD
    • Closing/re-open OMSA
    • Stop/re-start services OMSA (DSM)
    • Clear the ESM/Hardware log in OMSA
    • Restart the server
    • Updating system firmware (BIOS, ESM, PERC (first pilot), HARD drive)

All the foregoing may work, but it's probably caused by obsolete OMSA and/or firmware/drivers.

  • More old PowerEdge 2850 & ESXi?

    Hello

We have a PowerEdge 2850 we brought back in June 2005, which came with Windows 2003 Standard installed. Now, we would like to make use of additional memory that the 2850 can take up to 16GB. Of course Windows 2003 Standard does not accept this, then we are looking at the formatting, and install ESX or ESXi, then we can install Win2003 on a virtual machine.

However, after the President of Dell support, they said it maybe some hardware compatibility problems, like 2005 it was at the beginning of when Dell began to supprt virtualization and the 2850 would be the oldest machine that they Supportepar. So I need to check the documenetion Dell & ESX/ESXi to ensure compatibility.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with ESX/ESXi and the PowerEdge 2850, especially one since about 2005? If so, do you have questions? I've listed the material PE 2850 below, done anything out of competition as being incompatible?

I installed ESXi on a 2850 at present, which was since August 2005 and it works like a treat.  We cannot do any messing extra to make it work, it worked as soon as the software has been installed.

  • PowerEdge 2850 message error, no display, usb devices do not work and all readers are off (a little)

Hello! I'm here in the dell community because I'm having an error with a PowerEdge 2850 server. When I boot it all seems to work, but inspection closer both blue and yellow led on the front is off. All devices (such as a keyboard) will not turn on. Supplies seems to work perfectly well with the error led out of power and both of the Green led on the power supply on. The drives at the front lights up but then after 2 seconds the led for every hard drive goes off and then when you reconnect the drives it will be on for 2 seconds then turns off.

    I tried:

Reset all RAM chips and CPU in the case

Replugin all hard drives from the server

    I tried multiple monitors

has tried just using the power supply instead of the power brick or a surge protector

and tried to run it only out of a raid, everything ends up in the same result

I have no idea what to do so im just going to ask the community of dell. Thank you!

    Hello.

What is the error specific are you? Try the system at least to the POST with the following components:

    • System Board
    • Processor
    • A bar of memory in DIMM1-A or B-DIMM1
    • Power supply
    • Riser
    • Control Panel and bottom of basket (necessary only when the last power state was off. Ensure that all USB devices, including the keyboard are disconnected.
  • Dell PowerEdge 2850 does not start on a CD of ESXi 3.5

    Hello...

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2850, who does not start on a CD of VMware ESXi 3.5.  The server works very well with Windows 2000 server.  My first thought to solve this problem was the BIOS.  This is all what I've updated in what concerns the firmware on the box today.

    BIOS - A07

    Perc4e/Di - 5B2D, A19

    BMC Firmware - 1.83, A10

Here are the latest versions of firmware available from Dell on this box.  The machine starts to start the machine.  But all I see is the first line of text of the CD which is the following:

    ISOLinux 3.63 2008-04-10 Copyright (C) 1994-2008 h. Peter Anvin

My next thought was that there was something wrong with the ISO image that I downloaded.  I tested it on another machine; has worked like a champ.  Now, I read on a few different posts within the VMware communities that some people have had luck with this question and others did not.

The inventory number of Dell on the machine is 6HDGS81

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the Dell CD-ROM may be little flighty. I had hard time to install a CD earlier which worked perfectly well on another machine. I made another copy of the disc, this time burning the CD at a 4 x speed. The installation went perfectly fine afterwards.

  • Dell Poweredge 2850 and ESXi 4.1

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with 12 GB of RAM and two CPUs, hyperthreading with 350 GB of disk space.

This box was initially installed with Redhat Linux ES 5.4 64-bit and OS 64 bit CentOS 5.5 with no problems, so I know the processor supports 64-bit.

I then installed VMWare ESXi version 4.1 on the Dell Poweredge 2850 with no problems.

Then, I created a few instances VM I want to install CentOS 5.5 64 bit.  During the installation of a VMware instance, I get this:

msg.cpuid.notLongmodeQuestionFmt:This veritual is configured for 64-bit operating systems.
However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
Longmode is disabled for this virtual machine.
    For more information, see http://VMware.com/info?id=152
    Continue without 64 bit support?

Now the question I have is this: given that VMWare is problems with 64-bit OSes comments, how is it that I can install CentOS 5.5 64 bit on this Dell PowerEdge 2850 with no problems.  It seems obvious to me that the PowerEdge 2850 works well with the 64 bit OS but not ESXi 4.1.

How can I get around this?

    Comments?  Thanks in advance.

The dell series 8 (1850/2850) have no vt support, so not support 64-bit virtual machine, except 6850.

The output of the processor shows the same thing, or rather, what he shows no vt in its ability.  It shows lm, long mode, so you can run 64-bit, that you are running ESX, but to succeed in this 64-bit support, you need the lm, you and vt, which you don't have.

  • Can I install Windows 2008 R2 Server on a PowerEdge 2850 Server?

I have a PowerEdge 2850 server, that when he was initially put in place (by someone else) had Windows 2003 R2 top.  However, when they put in place, the partitioned the C: drive with so little space that it is running out of space.  We got a newer Dell server and I turned that 2850 off the coast.  It was interrupted for a month or two.

But I would like to use it as a backup of database server.  Can I install Windows 2008 R2 Server on a PowerEdge 2850 Server?

You need to install RAID drivers during the installation of 2008R2.

    1. Configure and initialize the RAID in the CTRL-M utility.
    2. Download and extract the drivers put on USB (or CD).
    3. Start on media 2008R2.
    4. On the screen that asks you where you want to install Windows, click on load a driver link at the bottom left.
    5. Navigate to the location of the RAID drivers.
    6. Choose the drive to install, then install.
  • Supported PowerEdge 2850 WinPE versions

    Hello

We have problems with the Symantec system recovery.  The new version uses WinPE 5.0 64-bit, but I can't start a server poweredge 2850 it resets the entire system.

Does anyone know if the 2850 supports 64-bit WInPE 5.0?

If I'm not mistaken, WinPE 5.0 is the package which is 8,1/WindowsServer 2012 R2. Server 2012 is not "supported" on a 2850. 2012 will take place (slow, but it installs and runs), but 2012 R2 installs not even - an apparent problem running 2012 R2 that nobody seemed to be able to understand. I sold all my 2850's, so I did have a go at it, but I suspect that whatever question/incompatibility between the material and the 2012 Server R2 2850 is at the origin of your problem with the backup software based on WinPE 5.0 from Symantec.

  • PowerEdge 2850 Boot on USB

I have recently received some PowerEdge 2850 servers and need to install can I 2008 on them.  They don't have DVD players, so I made a bootable USB drive.  I was able to use the thumbdirve to install Windows on other machines, but I'm not able to get these 2850 to even attempt to boot from the USB key.

I entered the BIOS and USB controller 'on with BIOS support.  I tried each of the three types of USB emulation available and none doesn't seem to work.  Also, I saw some web pages that describe the USB drive would seem the selection of boot sequence, but it's not.

    Any suggestions?

    Alex

I did install it on a GROUND of 2850's and here are a few possible suggestions based on what you said or did not say in your message:

Make sure you have the USB ports enabled embedded devices and emulation set to Auto.  In addition, make sure that you have the USB in THE SYSTEM when you start the BIOS to change the boot order.

  • Having trouble installing an OS on a PowerEdge 2850

I recently purchaced a Dell PowerEdge server 2850 U1 of second hand and I'm unable to install an operating system on it.

It's my first server to not laugh at me, if it's a simple solution

I have no difficulty in obtaining start-up of the drive, but once it loads it does no drive detected

    Can anyone help?

    Hello

Even if you have a RAID PERC 4 adapter, it does not seem any logical drives put in place if it is more than probably why you don't see any location to install the operating system. To configure a logical drive, open THE RAID controller BIOS and follow the steps on this link:

If your server has a floppy drive, it's just a case of download and run this file, ensuring that it saves the contents of a floppy disk. Once you have done this, start the OS support and then select F6 to install third-party SCSI or RAID drivers when prompted and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you do not have a floppy drive, you can integrate the drivers using nLite: http://www.nliteos.com/ - if you need help doing so, please let me know.

Thanks again, hope to hear from you soon.

OK, so I use a server Dell PowerEdge 2900 with a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller

The only problem I encounter is that, when starting the server (Post), I get a message on the cable SAS B are not connected or misconfigured.  The bottom of the basket on my server, which goes to the internal drives, has only a port where I can plug a cable between the Perc 6 / i.  Where is the 2nd wire supposed to go?  I can't find the second port.

    Hello

PERC connector 0 goes to the bottom of basket. Connector on the PERC 1 connects to the modular Bay. If you don't have the module Bay optional then you ensure that you use the 0 on the PERC and not the connector 1.

  • Disc question PowerEdge T300 Perc 6 / I Raid 5

I have a PowerEdge T300 with Perc 6 / I and Raid 5 with 3 hot swap 15 k 146 GB disks and 1 hot spare in the fourth slot from the backplane. Drive HARD 0 is orange flashing while HDD1 thru HDD3 are green. I have a new hard drive to install. I have to restart under the Perc 6 / I installation, disable HDD0, then turn the power off and replace it and walk back in Perc 6 / I and add the new disk and restart. Drive HARD 0 rebuild in the table or what I need to assign the new drive as the new hot spare? Are there instructions on how to replace a drive like that?

    Thank you

    Mark

Once in the controller and you can just physically pull the failed drive. After removing, then wait a moment and insert the new drive. If the virtual disk has been degraded, then it should start to rebuild on its own once the replacement is inserted. If the virtual disk has been Optimal, then physically pull the drive and insert the replacement. Then in the BIOS OF THE controller, you can configure the replacement as a hot spare.
