Priority of the BIOS

My PC is a HP G5345uk with Windows7 Professional (64 bit) OS

With no CD/DVD in my normal boot sequence takes me to the it\: partition.

I now have a USB2 desktop external hard drive (Maxtor 500 GB) with its own power supply plug.

If I have this drive connected to a USB port when I start / restart my PC, the boot sequence stops at the HP splash screen and will wait until I unplug the USB cable to the external drive.

(It seems to be a similar to the old floppy A\ priority: by car)

Is it possible that I can arrange the startup configuration so that I don't have to keep plug/unplug the external hard drive?

It would seem that there is something to this device being present during the boot process that confuses the search of an operating system.  What is on the Maxtor drive and was present in a system when another OS or the current operating system has been installed?

  • Priority of the BIOS boot options is not available

Hello. I'm changing the boot on my Windows 8 Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro sequence. I wish that the machine checks first to any bootable USB device before going on the hard drive. This would be necessary in case I would like to recover from a hard drive failure.

When I press F2, I can see the "Boot Device Priority". But there is only 1 option available: Windows Boot Manager.
I'm sure that there are other options available, but I did something to remove!
I disabled the Fast BIOS mode as suggested by some, but the situation persists.
How can I see other boot options?

On systems with Windows 8 pre-installed, you can access the configuration screens UEFI (BIOS) from Windows 8 Start menu:

    1. Press the windows () key + C or by scanning from the right edge of the screen to open your charms.
    2. Click settings.
    3. Click change PC settings.
    4. In PC settings, select general.
    5. Under advanced boot, click restart now. The system will restart and display the start menu in Windows 8.
    6. In the start menu, select Troubleshooting.
    7. In the troubleshooting menu, select Advanced options.
    8. In the advanced options menu, select settings from the UEFI firmware.
    9. Click reboot to reboot the system and access UEFI (BIOS).
  • Problem starting the BIOS NB10t-A-101

I just bought a NB10t to the United Kingdom and try to boot to a bootable USB key

I noticed that the BIOS on this particular model is UEFI mode only, which, in itself, is not a problem because users can sign their own operating systems with a certification authority and use them, but this laptop refuses to boot from any external environment... or even to provide an error message.

I changed boot priority in the BIOS and USB moved up
I disabled the Secure Boot option in the BIOS
I tried all 3 USB ports as well as 3 different drives (NOTE: THESE WORK FINE ON the 3 OTHER SYSTEMS, a dell desktop/laptop computer and a computer acer laptop)
I also tried different distributions (Debian & Arch)
I used several installation methods (hard install of Unetbootin/Full/Rufus etc...)
I tried all your currently released BIOS versions (delivery with V1.0, V1.1 - Jan Feb - V1.2)

After trying all these when you press F12 at startup, the shows start menu but when you select a device, the system continues to initiate (Win8) HARD drive
After Googling around, I noticed that you have unlocked 2 BIOS updates I tried all versions of these and still the system refuses to boot in my selected device

Can we expect more updates of the firmware in the near future? Is there a way to work around this problem to start my chosen OS? Is there an option of CSM?

The laptop can be started from an external source such as USB flash memory stick but make sure of a few important points:
    A few tips:

1 - USB key must be in the right port (USB2).
2 - USB key must be UEFI-bootable (a Debian or Ubuntu, Installer copied on the USB stick with 'dd', is very well).
3 - Bootloader file must be named boot/bootx64.efi (again, a picture of the Debian or Ubuntu installer will be already OK).
4 - now try the ESC key before and during hit the power button, to select the boot device.

  • PROTECTED M100 does not start on an internal CD, even though it is set in the BIOS

Well, I have a Toshiba protégé m100 here I think.

I set the boot priority in the BIOS such as CD-ROM > LAN > FDD > HDD

I restart, does not work. Starts directly in HD and loads the operating system.

I also tried pressing ESC or else bring up the start menu pop up.
I'm sailing on the 1 that looks like a single disk CD. I hit enter on that, and it always starts in HD.

The CD rom works. The current operating system is Ubuntu. I can go into Ubuntu and watch the windows XP CD...

But it won't let boot me from any cd, it doesn't even look like she is trying to find one. Does not sound or rattling noise.

(and for the record, I'll since Ubuntu XP to work, non-identifying preferably lol).

Edit: Oh yes, I had to disable the LAN network card in the bios because the boot priority would ignore the cd again in any case and find the lan connection or something... So with him off, Yes, it jumps to the LAN too now, to boot from HD.

In my opinion in the BIOS, set HDD as first boot device.

For some reason if you need to use the other device as first boot device you can choose it manually in the start menu when you use F12 at startup.

  • NB200-h-13 - how to reset the BIOS?

I have a laptop Toshiba mini nb200-h-13 and one day a kid put a bios password, which of course later, he forgot what he was...

So I tried to reset the bios that I managed by short-circuiting the rider but when I turned on it return a message posted no operating system in the hard disk drive and can not boot from the disk. Is it possible for a simple disk bios reset is erased somehow? Bad news is she has no cd-rom or floppy disk drive and the version of the bios is Phoenix 1.20 with no boot usb option... only the lan and the hard drive.

    Any ideas for that?

    Hello

I don't think that this bios simple reset of the drive is erased somehow. It looks like the bios sees no hard drive. Have you checked a boot priority in the Bios, the 1st device should be the hard drive?

  • Could not load the BIOS after RAM upgrade - Satellite A200

    Hello

I don't know what you've done and why this happens, but what you can do is to check if the quick start option is enabled.
Open Toshiba Assist > optimize > HWSetup > priority Boot and check the startup speed option it.
Remember that it is set to Normal.

    Please, check and send comments.

  • Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E-03Y010EN) no access to the BIOS

    Hi all

I upgraded my OS from XP - Pro to Win7 Ultimate 2010 March, no problem everything works OK. Now that I need more space, I want to upgrade the hard disk of 40 GB to 320 GB.

I can not access the bios to change the boot system (boot from DVD, for example), I can access the initial screen of the 4 menu at the start of the laptop but any icon highlight (disks, CD/DVD/etc), the laptop starts just Win7. I tried to use F12, DELETE, F2, etc.; all of them get the Select where I want to go, but as I said earlier, when I select one, the laptop starts just in Win7 from the hard drive.

My manual tells me to use the Toshiba HWSETUP to access the boot system, but its does not work on Win7 (90% CD-ROM of the tools do not work on/with Win7).

I downloaded the new drivers Win7 for Bios and other different pieces, some have installed and others have not. More (including the BIOS updated) claim that I am running a not recognized OS so used to install! How the Win7 is an unrecognized OS?

    So my questions are;
    1. How can I access the BIOS to set the boot system to boot from the CD/DVD then the local disk?
    2. is there a fix for this problem? (Looking through the forum, this is not a rare.)
    3. can I never boot/BIOS systems working properly?

    See you soon
    Dave

    Hello

    > 1. How to access the BIOS to set the boot system to boot from the CD/DVD then the local drive?

Usually, you can access Bios by pressing f2/f12 at startup, but you've already tried... Try the following:

    * Key esc (BIOS Toshiba) method *.
Press and hold the ESCAPE key.
    Turn on the laptop.
Press the F1 key when prompted.
The first page of the BIOS Setup screen appears.
If you have a utility called Toshiba hardware configuration (site in a windows environment) where you can choose the cd/DVD-ROM boot priority boot option

  • How do reset you the BIOS password?

    Hello

I have a Sony laptop where the hard drive gone bad. It has a BIOS password on it. I replaced the hard drive and went into the BIOS to change the boot device priority. Now my BIOS password won't work, and after three failed attempts, it gives me a 16-digit hash and ask you a unique password. There is of course a way to generate a unique password based on this hash table, but I've looked everywhere and it seems that there are people who know how do it, but none of them don't tell you exactly how. I called Sony support and they told me I had to send the laptop to get the password removed, but I don't really have time for that. How can I generate a unique password and access my machine again?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi dbarney.

A resolution for this problem is available, but for security reasons, this resolution can only be provided by a telephone support representative.

  • Satellite Pro 410 - CDT - access the BIOS

Please, anyone could advise if it is possible to access BIOS through a sequence of keys to change the priority of the boot to access the CD drive first. I have a damaged Windows installation and am unable to get a bootable CD of diskette or bootable to work.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Peter,.

You will need access to the BIOS during system startup. DSepending on the age of your laptop and the BIOS manufacturer, the key combination may vary, but generally the following keys are used: -.

ESC then F1 will enter the BIOS

    The F2 BIOS Setup mode

    The F8 BIOS boot mode

BIOS F12 boot device selection mode.

Above the keys must be held down during boot of the system, until the confirmation message usually appears on the start screen, or until the BIOS mode is displayed.

So why this time did he? OK so I went in the press of Enter - F8 installacion program (accepts the terms of the contract) press on enter new install. but before that I had to remove the particion with XP infected previously ok I deleted everything and stars adaptation of the file... copied the 100% of the files requiered.

    Sorry for my bad English.

    Hi mate

The history of sounds strange for me

First of all, it would be interesting to know if your CD/DVD drive is able to start using another disc; for example, a disk of Linux or a self created WinPE disc.
    (What is WinPE-> http://apcmag.com/windows_pe_20_a_tiny_version_of_windows_for_system _maintenance.htm)

This would use to determine if the CD/DVD would start from all drives another.

You can also try to boot from the Win XP disc by pressing the F12 key immediately after that the laptop is turned on.
Now you should be able to choose ODD as a source of start-up, it will allow a start menu.

Another idea. Maybe the CD/DVD drive cannot start until this special disc
In this case, it would be advisable to copy the Win XP on another CD or DVD disc.
After that, you can try to boot from the new drive copied.

Of course the Win XP must contain the SP2!

Last but not least don't forget to include the RAID drivers because the F20 supports RAID!
