ProBook 4740 s: new RAM not recognized...?

I have an old but functional 4740 s Probook, always running on 4 GB of memory. Is no longer worth (especially running programs using a lot of memory as GIMP), and with the upgrade to Win10, I decided it's definitely time to upgrade memory. The max memory for this model is 8 GB.

According to data IO could find online, I bought Kingston KTH - module X3CS / 4G memory, specified for HP/Compaq. I inserted the memory as far as I can tell, but it does not appear as being recognized. I run the Windows memory checker and found no problem.

Can anyone suggest what I might hurt?

Memory module specifications are given as follows:

Kingston 4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz specific system brand HP SODIMM

On the Kingston site the Probook s 4740 is not specifically reported as compatible, but they list any of this model. Elsewhere online (IE on thousands of websites of seller) it appears as compatible memory.

Thanks for any help!

The most likely cause is that the two modules are not exactly identical.

It is an essential element of the recommendation that I propose to members who want to upgrade.

If you want it to run as expected once the new modules are connected, do not mix the types of module or manufacturers.

Purchase of of another memory identical bar and you shouldn't have problems to start at 8 GB memory acknowledged.

    Hello

I have a 21.5 ' mid year 2010 i3 iMac, and, after all this time, it was time to upgrade the RAM.

I bought 2 x 4 GB Patriot SODIMM PC3 - 10600 1333 MHz 204-pin, by following the instructions in the Web page of Apple memory upgrade (install memory in an iMac - Apple Support).: 4 GB RAM SO-DIMM memory DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz. I installed it according to job with factory 2x2gb RAM Samsung sticks. After a reboot, everything worked beautifully for about 6 minutes. The identified computer sticks again and showed me a full 12 GB available. Which was great, since Yosemite + a few browser windows and Spotify only lasts up to 3GB. I have enough to spare. However, it restarted and again and again and again.

I decided to test only the new RAM and started with the combination of Patriot 8 GB. It froze on reboot and fully started once, but it restarted less than 2 minutes later.

Result: now I'm back to the original combination of 2x2gb. Always deal with the lack of memory and without understanding what's wrong with the new RAM I bought at Fry's. What about compatibility? Is there an another specification? Of course, I know, there may be a malfunction of hardware, but I would like to address this issue before making another run to the store and risking another model or brand.

For reference: I've tried it before, but because of the lack of information from the seller, I was conquered by a stick of RAM 1x8GB, which is not supported by my model. So I replaced it with the 2 in question.

    Thanks for any help.

It is generally recommended to stick with quality RAM to buy from a seller that tests and ensures their RAM to work with Macs - the two most recommended are OWC (macsales.com) and Crucial. They both offer helps you determine which RAM you need and offer the lifetime warranty.

That should be your - sure.

I'll be back on the RAM for a refund.

  • Module of RAM not recognized on my Satellite Pro A60

    Hello
I have a Satellite Pro A60 and recently bought a RAM of 512 MB memory upgrade.
I have fitted on the correct port, however, there does not appear to be be achnoledged as being there.
    Can someone help me?

    [Edited by: admin August 31 05 19:02]

    Hi Robert,.

I guess your A60 has two RAM ports, then I suggest that Exchange you the two RAM modules autour to check if the port rather than the modules itself that is the source of the problem.

I hope that you took of anti-static precautions before manipulating the new RAM module. They are easily damaged by a discharge of static electricity.

  • Satellite L20-153 - upgrade RAM not recognized

    Hi all

I just put an extra 1 GB of RAM in my laptop so there should be 1 and a half GB in there now, but Windows only recognizes 896 MB. When I run pc Wizard it say to me that 1.5 is installed.

Any ideas why Windows XP won't see it, I updated the BIOS and most of the other systems, any help would be appreciated.

    see you soon,

    Hey Buddy,

If PC Wizard recognizes the two RAM modules, I think that more RAM is used for the graphics card and other device devices (shared memory).

Just to be sure, can look in the BIOS the amount of RAM is it recognized? 1.5 GB of RAM, if recognized, everything is ok!

  • eMachines EL1850 new RAM not working not

    Hello everyone!

I wanted to upgrade RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB, so I looked at the label placed on the current RAM and tried to find the best match. I bought and tried 1 x 2 GB Kingston and 2 x 2 GB Corsair (more), but unfortunately none of them worked. After installation and turn on the PC, it was a constant noise for a long time and I couldn't do anything. Nothing on the screen. Then I tried one at a time into the two slots with the same result.

What's wrong? What I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

    The current RAM:

    UNIFOSA 2 GB GDDR3 - 1333 128MX8 1.5V EP, GU512303EP0202

    I tried (all new) RAM:

    Kingston 1 x 2 GB memory DDR3 1333 MHz Non - ECC, CL9, 1.5V, memory unbuffered DIMM (link)

    Corsair 2 x 2 GB memory DDR3 1333 MHz Non - ECC, CL9, 1.5V, memory unbuffered DIMM (link)

    Motherboard: G41T-AD V: 1.0

BIOS: P01. B3 (the latest version)

Upgrades successfully achieved to date: replaced Intel Celeron E3400 with Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

Fortunately, I found someone who was trying to sell the same Unifosa modules, 2 x 2 GB. They work perfectly!

I want to thank all the people who have tried to help me!

  • upgrade RAM not recognized by BIOS

I have a pavilion dv6t-3100 Entertainment series that I had upgrade the system RAM to 8 GB to 16 GB.  The system startup stops but so too demand placed on the system.  I see that the BIOS didn't recognize the 16 GB but running system and another diagnosis tools to see all the 16 GB.  My question is how do BIOS to recognize the 16 GB of physical RAM?  Should I Flash a BIOS newer or even force him to re - initialize or is it a key sequence / start that will solve this problem?  I hate to give up the extra RAM without a fight.  Thank you, jwillar

All indications are that the system tops out at 8 GB of RAM. You try to stuff 20 pounds of sugar in a 10-pound bag. It is not entirely the BIOS but also material of the motherboard which imposes the limit. It wouldn't do any good to Flash the BIOS, but it can't hurt. I wouldn't try to do it with 16 installed concerts; who would be in trouble. It starts at 8 GB and I mean 2 x 4 GB not just remove a module.

  • Reference Dell T5400 new SSD not recognized

I'm having a problem with the installation of a new SSD on my T5400. Ultimatly I want to load the operating system and all the software on the SSD and then install a 2nd hard drive SSD of same type and size to store my files.

    My specific situation is:

Previously a poweredge 6 / i sas card scsi perc 6 with the installation of 500 GB HD (2) RAID 0, Win 7 pro 64 bit.

I removed the adapter perc 6 and installed a new Samsung 850 Evo 500 gb SSD on sata 0 position. I'm trying to do a fresh reload of the OS on the SSD with the bios (Version 11) set to Raid Autodetect/AHCI selected.

During the installation of windows, it does not see the SSD and seeks pilots continue. I tried to find the appropriate drivers on the website of dell for my system and the unziped NautilusDOSA48_ZPE, put on a USB key. He looked for a driver, but windows has returned a message 'no driver signed found. Of note is that I was able to remove my other format of the underdisk of configuration management and create a simple volume on disk.

    Issues related to the:

Is the withdrawal of the RAID card affecting the installation, was it the previous series of drivers that I seem to be missing? If so how can I work around this?

Leaves the RAID card to and not connected to the drive or connect to the card and a raid configuration, a configuration option 'no '? If so is it a good idea?

I visited the dell support site and found what I thought was the best set of drivers for my system and SSD (NautilusDOSA48_ZPE) is suitable for my application driver or is there a better one avalible?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi Todd,

    Thanks for your reply.

I currently have the readers installed and running on my system

In response to your answer, yes Bios A11 had been installed for more than a year, removed the card activated before installing the SSD raid and AHCI.

The question, it turns out that was a simple, as I said after enabling the AHCI I thought that ports 0 and 1 auto detects new readers, they do not have. Once I have manually configured ports on in the Bios, the system recognizes the new SSD and they work now.

    Best
