Processors logics esxi

Hello world.

I know there is a lot of documentation on the issue, but all the information that makes me feel even more confused.

The question is simple: "in esxi 5.5" ".

  • NO HyperThreading
  • Intel Xeon CPU E5-2407 v2
  • processor 1 socket
  • Cores per socket 4
  • 4 logical processors.

How many virtual machines can I run?

I understand just 4. One by logical processors.  But I'm running 5, so I do not understand the question.

Thank you all

Hello

the amount of virtual machines, you can run is more limited by the amount of RAM that you allocate to the virtual machines, since each VM you start needs at least little RAM to start.

ESXi has no problem with the use of a logical basis for several virtual machines.

When you create more and more virtual machines, each logical heart will serve X vCPUs. If it's good or not depends on your applications and their need for resources.

I run up to 5 by heart logical vCPUs in our environment and it works well because the applications need a lot of time CPU.

  • Using Windows 7 processor on ESXi 4.1

    Hello

If I assign a guest Windows 7 6 logical processors in ESXi it shows only 2.  I think it's because Windows 7 does support only 2 Sockets.  This means - it does not use the other 4 processors?  If so is there anyway I can set it to several carrots as a single logical processors?

    Thanks for the help.

    David

This message indicates that you are looking for because I think.  It shows how to move the VM to carrots instead of processors.

  • How can I add processors in ESXi?

How can I add processors in ESXi?  I have a quad-core processor, but once I allowed my server, it only allows me to use two now.  I guess I need another button, or buy some add-on?  I use ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0 123629.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm in love with this product!

ESXi is licensed per socket. So 2 quads counts as two processors.

HT is enabled which is why you see 16 logical processors instead of 8

  • Support processor for ESXi 5.0?

Our company is currently using vSphere deployed on ESXi 4.1 servers and we are looking to try out the new 5.0 before actually buying the upgrade, but we wanted a devil of a time finding a server it will run on. When I try to install on our servers, they say that the LAHF and SAHF CPU instructions are not supported on this processor. It's probably expect that the waiters are about 5 years, so I decided I would build my own server to test with. Looking at the page system requirements 5.0 ESX http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003661 looks like it is said the Intel Xeon 3100 series is supported.

So my question is: is the supported Intel L3110 processor for sure?

I got the specs on this processor from: http://Ark.Intel.com/products/32709/Intel-Xeon-processor-L3110-%286M-cache-3_00-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB%29

You can perform a search in the hardware compatibility matrix below

But Ko say its taken care of, so it will be supported, give it a try and see... But as the hardware compatibility of vmware matirix said not his only supported on esx (i) 4.1 and lower version, could be the case, the HCL site is not updated. • Problems use processor ESXi

    Hi guys -.

IM new here and just installed ESXi 4.0 (latest one) on a 490 dell precision. So far, it has 2 GB of ram ecc, but I have another 2 GB on the way. Its got a 3.0ghz xeon dual-core processor with ht technology so it appears as 4 processors. Esxi installation went smooth and I've added a virtual machine in and begain to install Server 2008 r2.  To get to the point, it takes forever to install Server 2008 r2. I have no idea why. I'm looking for in table performance and its only operating at 20%. Why can't he just use more processor? or am I missing a setting?

Before, I tried to install Server 2008 r2 just to see how fast it would install right hard disk (no esxi) and it took about 10 minutes to start cd to type the password for the first time. very fast.

Why esxi it slows down a lot?

    Ryan

Repeat the installation with a single vCPU assigned to the virtual machine and see what happens. Chances are you see some argument for resources by having all your Physics (and the HT "nuclei") assigned to the virtual machine.

You can check the values of CPU ready to give you a good idea if you may be suffering from a CPU contention. On ESXi, this can be done using resxtop (part of the vSphere CLI), or changing the graphics options of the particular graphic performance for this virtual machine.

  • Installation and running of ESXi on a dual processor system

Is it possible to install an ESXi 4.0 on a system with two Xeon Quad Core processors? Currently we have server with Quad Core Xeon processor and a free license, which is up to 6 cores and "1 physical processor. It will be possible to use a dual processor with ESXi 4.0 free system?

Not last time I checked.  When you have completed the form for your free license, on what he should ask you how many processors you plan to use it.  Just type "999" and it works perfectly.  Honestly, I think it's just for survey purposes and that all the keys will work with multi-CPU systems, even if you have entered '1 '.  WCS on this, is that you must reregister and get a different key.

  • CPU and U3 ESXi 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 compatibility

    Hello guys,.

Basically, I have a pretty simple question and I would like to have a confirmation of your site, because in my opinion the seller is wrong in some of their statements.

-I am running ESXi 5.1 U3. I need to replace my old HP Blade servers (CPU Xeon X 5550) with the new.

-In the future, I need to run ESXi 6.0.

-Supplier of servers gave me servers blades with the following processors: Xeon E5-2620v4, 2680v4-E5-Xeon, Xeon Xeon 2630v3 E5 E5-2695v3.

    Questions:

    (a) is one of these compatible with ESXi 5.1 CPU U3 and ESXi 6.0 as well? I want to add new blades servers in vSphere 5.1 cluster and then perform the upgrade of the hypervisor of 5.1 vSphere vSphere 6.0.

    (b) is one of the processors Xeon E5-2620v4, 2680v4-E5-Xeon, Xeon E5-2630v3, Xeon E5-2695v3 compatible with vSphere 5.1 U3?

Thanks a lot for all your ideas.

    Hejbi

I really believe that the CPU will not be a problem, just go ahead.

And if you look at the address below, you will see a few refer to ESXi 5.1 U3 and Xeon series 2600-v3: VMware Compatibility Guide - cpu

But again, I think that CPU wouldn't be a problem and the fact that you can not found that CPU on HCL for version 5.1 U3 is perhaps due to the fact that these CPUS are latest ESXi 5.1 U3 release and therefore any provider lost time to check compatibility for an older version of ESXi.

Note that when you are looking for ESXi hardware requirements, you will find:

    64-bit processor

    • ESXi 5.1 will install and run only on servers with 64-bit x 86 CPUS.
    • ESXi 5.1 requires a host with at least two hearts.
    • ESXi 5.1 supports only the LAHF and SAHF CPU instructions.
    • ESXi 5.1 requires the NX/XD bit to activate for the CPU in the BIOS.
    • ESXi 5.1 supports a wide range of x 64 of multicore. For a complete list of taken processors supported, refer to the VMware Compatibility Guide.

    RAM

    • 2 GB of RAM minimum
    • Provide at least 8 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the features of ESXi 5.1 and run virtual machines in typical production environments.

    Hardware virtualization support

    • To support the VMS 64-bit, hardware support for virtualization (Intel VT - x or AMD RVI) must be enabled on x 64 CPUS.
    • To determine if your server has 64-bit VMware support, download the utility of Identification of CPU of vmware.com.

And I'm sure that these new CPU includes all of these requirements.

  • An image of vmware workstation running on ESXi 5.1 9

    Hello

I have a vmware image of Win Server 2008 I am able to run on a vmplayer running the Ubuntu 64 bit PC. According to vmplayer, it's a workstation image 9.

I also had vm workstation 8 32-bit on a 32-bit PC Win7, but I am unable to run the image here, probably because the host is only 32-bit.

I now run the image on a 64-bit server running ESXi 5.1. I know there are steps to export an image workstation to ESXi via my computer, but my workstation allows 32-bit vm convert a 64-bit image? What are my options?

    Thank you!

It is less the host operating system that is important, it is the CPU that you use and available BIOS options (e.g. "VT - x" for Intel processors)

ESXi does not support the format of sparse virtual disk Workstation uses by default, so you can use VMware Converter to convert/transfer the image of the workstation to ESXi.

  • Non - VT dual core 64-bit processor support

I'm fighting with the VMWare compatibility and in general matrix processor for ESXi 4.1 needs. It will install (in box running a thin VM) on the non - VT dual core 64-bit processor as an Intel E2200 with 2 GB of RAM? Or can I * need * to install VT?

Can I install it on the system without head the serial console?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the community,

It will install (in box running a thin VM) on the non - VT dual core 64-bit processor as an Intel E2200 with 2 GB of RAM? Or can I * need * to install VT?

You can install ESXi, but you will not be able to run the 64-bit without VT support clients. With only 2 GB of RAM, you will be able to install the OS and run it, but it will not be too much RAM left for the virtual machine that you want to run.

Can I install it on the system without head the serial console?

What type of console is not sure. As long as you can start the installation from the CD or set the ISO as a virtual CD, you should be able to install it. You need to try. If this does not work there are other options. For example, to prepare a USB stick with ESXi, attach it to the system and the boot USB hypervisor.

Whether or not it is possible to install and run ESXi on your system, depends not only of the CPU. There are other requirements for the material too. As the controller of disk, network cards,...

  • CentOS 5.5 100% CPU use 50% of the CPU of the host - very simple config

    Hello.

On an upgrade on ESXi 4.0u1 - & gt; ESXi 4.1, I got a CentOS 5.5 32bits with VMware tools and local storage SCSI RAID5.

    Host: IBM x 346 Intel Xeon 3, 4 Mhz single core, hyper-threading, dual-CPU 10 GB of RAM.

    VM: CentOS 5.5 32bits, kernel 2.6.18 - 194.11.1.el5 #1 SMP

VM resources: 4 vCPU, 4096 MB RAM, affinity and default limits

I've got high utilization of the processor on this light apache + mysql box. In order to optimize the system, I came to this observation:

-When my CentOS VM uses 100% cpu, the ESXi host uses only 50%

My question is: why is it impossible to use more cpu, as this the only VM on the host?

    Clues or tips?

    TIA

First of all, you have an absolutely incorrect configuration.

You see 2 CPU * HT * 1 core = 4 logical processors in ESXi. But actually it's only 2 physical cores, and you should not give any VM on the ESXi exceeding 2 vCPU, because it isn't real processors and VM is not aware of it.

If you have 2 virtual machines with 2 vCPUs each then Yes, HT will give performance gain, but not in this case.

    Hi @mirtex,

I hope you enjoy your visit to the HP's Support Forums. I understand questions about upgrades. I'll be happy to help you.

This motherboard can take many different processors. You didn't say which came of pentium with the computer, by spec CPU intel core I3 - 3120 m. On page 19 and 20 on Maintenance and Service of Guide is a list that fits the motherboard. the fastest is the number of piece (2.2 GHz, turbo SC up to 3.2 GHz, 1 600 MHz/6 MB L3 cache, quad core, 35 W) Intel Core i7-3632QM 701658-001

  • ASUS P5L - VM 1394 micro ATX - card mother i945G

I searched for more information on the compatibility of the motherboard installed in my computer and have found something in the center of compatibility Windows7, HP, Pegatron, Asusteck, Intel customer support, various Forums, Kingston, and someone else I could ask.  The problem is the compatibility of Windows7 and my desktop computer HP Pavilion p6212f with a motherboard being named two different ways of additional confusion where to find help.  . ASUS or Asusteck and Pegatron names are on different documents for her. His IPIBL-LB or its also known as Pegatron "Benecia.  I can't find a manual anywhere for that. Cannot get answerson real specifications associated with this Council.  I am more than the number of slots in or number of the processor logical processors, I need.  After all, everyone knows that it is two. lol, I need the specifications of manufacturers that have been used for this engineer because the power supply is not enough to do much and could be part of the sentence.

Questions I am looking for an answer to are programs stops working regularly, Windows takes too long to stop, put to date not be installed, Windows error reports not be sent due to a problem unsolved, HP Support Assistant works don't not and has a Signature block to the window where assistance may be found Plugnplay is not recognized, without TPM secure was detected by a diagnostic test program, melts no serial or parallel. No temperature reading of the CPU on diagnostic tests ran, no information available power, contradictory information on memory installed., certificates that appear to be not valid by a year or more, many services are stopped and much more. So I decided to start from the beginning and to inspect every nut and bolt. and share my findings... Any information showing the results of a group of certified test just as other motherboards have would be really appreciated. This Council even considered compatible for Vista? I found information showing that he have experienced similar difficulties in a Hp model with an accumulation of identical hardware and Vista.

Thank you for your interest and concern, but I think I'll stay on course with that again calling attention to the issue I posted.  This is the first question I want to answer before I spend another dime on this pc.  If they don't have the evidence that its been tested why try to do something it cannot do. For me to spend my time on what I want to see that the engineers and control of the quality of people have seen and verified that this configuration has worked and has passed the tests.   Otherwise I'm just throwing more of my time on something that was worthless to begin with. The problems started in the first two weeks, but being new to computers in my home I wasn't sure it was true. The problems continued then and continue.  Microsoft should be able to view the they have tested and that the results of the tests and who could clear all this up.  His past does not. I can't and I'm not going to see probably. Microsoft could not get to them when I contacted them. He said he didn't have the ability.  A computer kingpin cant get the compatibility of something means that they do not have the news that will be good for them.  Basically, they take the fifth and don't want anyone rat.

  • Cannot create the OpenStack deployment. Not enough memory

Target management and to calculate the bunches have free 2 TB, but I can't get VIO 2.5 to deploy. In the Wizard error message is "unable to create the OpenStack deployment. Not enough storage for (VIO-DB-0). At least 552 GB of storage is necessary to place all nodes... ». In my case, the two groups already have VM is deployed and release notes indicate that available resources may not be reported correctly.  Any thoughts? Thank you, dude64

I have 8 processors per ESXi host. I found it was getting hung up on the shared storage that is available within the cluster 3 node. Installation seems to use local storage only for DB nodes and prefers a shared storage exists for all other nodes in my setup. My storage shared initially was lower than the GB 552 required deployment of VIO was looking for. Once I replaced the shared storage with 1 TB of storage shared and removed the old shared storage devices, it finally proceeds to install. I grep had vio newspapers who were not really useful to determine the cause, which would have been nice to receive an error message more accurate and better yet better docs all about know her requirements, i.e. local and shared storage. It would also be nice to see a doc on logging and the ansible playbook info. I'll mark this as answered.

    Thank you, dude64

  • VCA serious question in a cluster after adding servers active DRS blades M630 Dell

    Hi guys,.

I hope that you will be able to help me with this strange question that I feel right now.

A couple of details first on our environment:

    • vCenter 5.0 U3
    • ESXi 5.0.0 - 2509828
    • 6 guests active DRS cluster
    • 4 hosts are Dell M620, E5-26XX v2 processor blades
    • 2 hosts are blades M630 Dell with processors of E5-26XX v2
    • VCA mode is currently set at "Westmere".
    • All ESXi hosts are fully patched using AUVS

Before adding the new M630 blades to the cluster it any of the issues with the DRS or VCA, outside the constraints of resources, and the 4 blades M620 we are able to correctly migrate the virtual machines back.

I could add the M630 blades to the cluster without problem and without errors or warnings have been issued. A week or so later, I noticed more deviations of DRS desired on the cluster. More inspection I noticed that quite a large number of virtual machines showed N/A beside VCA mode and I was not able to migrate them to any host on the cluster.

Thinking it could be a bug of sorts, I turned off all the virtual machines in the cluster and run a script that resets the CPUID at default. In addition, as a measure of precaution, I restarted the vCenter server and ensures that the database has been effective. The hosts are synchronized time with an NTP source and fits perfectly on both hosts.

After feeding all the VMS, I rebooted the M630 servers and inspected the BIOS settings to ensure that virtualization and NX/XD is enabled. With all virtual machines powered off, I was able to change the levels of the VCA to any available without warnings setting.

When everything has been turned back on I noticed a strange behavior in the cluster.

Virtual machines that are running on M620 blades show the right level of CVS and I am able to migrate them to all servers in the cluster. Once that they migrate to the blades M630, VCA state change s/o and I am unable to migrate anywhere, not even the other M630 blade in the cluster.

The error that I am shown during the verification step is:

The operation is not allowed in the current state of the connection to the host. Host CPU is not compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to cpuid level 0 x 1 host bit ' ecx' register: 0000:0010:1001:1000:0010:0010:0000:0011 required: x 110: x01x:11 x 1: 1xx0:xx11:xx1x:xxxx:xx11 inconsistency detected for these characteristics: * General incompatibilities; see section 1993 of possible solutions.

Dig deeper in my investigation, I came across this KB: 1034926[1]

I checked the M620 user guides and the M630 and parameters mentioned in the KB should be enabled by default. Unfortunately, I have no way to check the BIOS settings because I can not all M630 blades enter into maintenance mode without turning off the virtual machines running on them and another maintenance window one day after previous, we're going to be deprecated. In addition, the error is not the same as that of the KB and my goal is to collect as much information before entering another window of maintenance requiring downtime.

I hope that you will be able to provide any new perspectives or opening my eyes to things that I may have missed.

    Thanks in advance.

The processor in this system is a v3 E5-2660, not an E5-26xx v2.  ESXi 5.0 doesn't know how to use the features of this processor FlexMigration.  I think that the first version of ESXi to support this processor is ESXi 5.1U2.

Unfortunately, I do not see a workaround for ESXi 5.0 solution.
