I have Windows Vista basic on a desktop Dell 530.  I found that if I have a program or application running (such as I-tunes or windows media player) then the Sleep function will not put the computer to sleep.  How to activate the Sleep function to replace these programs and put the computer to sleep?

Note: This is how it was with windows XP, the Sleep function would put the computer to sleep no matter what was running, he was reliable, if you left the computer and I forgot that you had something running.

    Hi kevino4130,

If you disable sharing on your computer (not only the power settings) of media, it should allow him to enter the mode 'sleep'.

See if that does not solve your problem and let us know.

  • Files on a share network stuck as 'read only' to put the computer to sleep.

By necessity, I use my 98 computer windows that the file server since tempting to access any shares of Vista will cause Windows 9 X to crash. It is already used as a print from the Vista computer server does not have a parallel port.

I worked on a Microsoft Word document and subject to frequent interruptions. When I put the computer to sleep before walking away from the keyboard, it isn't properly disconnect the Win98 system. Wake up to the computer, I am unable to save office documents, because they are locked for editing.

In addition, sometimes even after I close Word or Excel, the system is not disconnected. Even when I stopped all other computers, the Win98 system reports that there are still users connected to the system when I go to stop him so. Is it possible to force the Vista computer to disconnect all network connections before you put it to sleep or stopping then the Win98 system recognizes that no one is online and that all the files will be closed?

I really don't want to have to close a document that I am in the middle of working on when I have to walk away from the keyboard, but this seems the only solution to the problem. Leaving open is the main reason that I put the computer to sleep rather than stop it. Recording locally is not really a good option because I want files stored in one place, and Vista Home Premium does not support synchronized folders.

Any suggestions? I already use the Briefcase feature to save documents on a flash drive, do I have to use the drive in question and transfer it to the server through network disks? This seems to beat the goal of a network.

The affected systems are Windows 98 Second edition and Windows Vista 64 bit Home Premium =.

    Hello

Win 98 is a former client OS, server to call (or any other OS cleint) is nice, but this does not mean that they can be found on a peer-to-peer network and behave like a real server.

Under this situation (using Win 98 for a server) it is not advisable to change the files over the network. First copy them to the Vista Edit computer and then synchronize. Return using one of the many free synchronization applications that work on most of the windows releases.

    Example, http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Allway_Sync/allwaysync.html

There is no judgment of network functionality, if the Application is enabled and go to sleep while a file is open on Win 98 it will stay open. Closing the file needs to be done by the application.

  • Can I turn off or put the PC to sleep?

    Hello

I had sleep problems and the technician told me to not use sleep often.

I use the PC daily between 09:00 - 14 am (standby) then I usually put on for a hour

at about 20:00 and put it back to sleep.

What the expert said I should do?

    Thank you!

    Hello KarlSu,

While sleep is a useful option, I'm afraid, I'm agree with the technician told you. To be honest I much prefer to turn off my computer when I have finished using the PC. If I know I'll be away from my PC for a period of time, say half an hour or more, then yes I'll use the sleep option, but in general as soon as I finished my session the PC is turned off completely.

  • Lose the FTP connection after you put the computer to sleep

I usually work in Dreamweaver on my Macbook. However, if I'm working on a Web site and decide to stop for a while (it's how I closed my Macbook), everytime I open my Macbook again, so lost FTP connection. Sometimes it comes back after a long period of time, and other times I can do return disconnection/reconnection airport several times. But most of the time, I just closed Dreamweaver and reopen it. If I do this, the connection works perfectly again.

Does anyone know how to avoid to have to close and restart Dreamweaver in order to maintain the FTP connection after having put a Macbook to sleep?

The FTP queue time is set by your web hosting provider.  I don't think DW has mechanisms in place to send empty commands to keep the connection alive, and even if it did, it would take the computer to be operational.  You shouldn't have to restart DW well in order to get a connection.  Simply by clicking on the login button in the files panel should do the trick.

  • Apple TV 4th Gen puts the projector to sleep

I just bought the new Apple Tv (I have 3 previous versions), when I put on standby, it turns off the LCD projector, it is connected via the hdmi interface. So if I want to use the projector with other devices (I have a mixer) I have to restart the LCD projector.  Even if the Apple Tv can accommodate itself, it shuts the projector. Is there a way to move to the wide/toggle this function or is this a bug in the software? This does not occur in previous models and is not covered in the manual or net so impossible to find a solution.

Have you tried changing the settings > remote controls and devices > home theatre control.

    Hello

1 did you do changes on the computer before the show?

2 does the problem occur when you connect the keyboard to a different computer?

    3. What is brand and model keyboard?

    Sorry to hear that.

Third, the drivers and settings programs can cause the computer to turn out to fall asleep when you press the delete key.

  • Put automatically the laptop to sleep when removed from the base?

    Hello

Many members of our society are using portable computers. However they all use docking stations when in the office. Nature from home they all simply press the eject button on the docking station and put the laptop in their bag. As you know that the laptop stays on since there is no action in the Power Options, simply what happens when "I close the lid.

Some have killed cell phones in this process, it is recommended to put the computer to sleep manually start before removing from the dock menu and go about your day, but naturally not everyone follows this process.

So is my question there a framework built in Windows 7 that will put the computer to sleep automatically in case the laptop lid is closed under power and is suddenly disconnected from the power?

I have searched through ACPI configurations but came empty-handed.

    Any help would be appreciated!

In addition, we are a boutique HP and use their cell phones of class business.

I think that implementing standby when the lid is closed so that hip will probably solve it. Unfortunately I can't imagine a way to detect if it is not connected to the dock because as much as I know Windows doesn't support that.

Apologies, I couldn't help-maybe someone knows if it is possible?

  • iMac fan sleep after security update

The fan on my iMac 27 inches (mid 2011) will not stop when the computer is put to sleep. I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 version. Graphics Intel Core i5 at 2.7 GHz. card processor: AMD Radeon HD 6770 M 512 MB.

I think it has something to do with security update 2016-004 (awords of content security of OS X El Capitan v10.11.6 and Security Update 2016-004 - Apple Support)

I just updated the other day and since the fan will not go to sleep when I put the iMac in mode 'sleep'. I've also updated iTunes and Safari, but I doubt that this has nothing to do with it.

The SMC reset and reset the PRAM was conducted without success.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Sometimes it takes several MSC resets for the reset to work. Please do the reset SMC 2 - 3 times and then repeat the test.
