  Searched the web. This seems to be a common problem with Toshiba laptops.
  Common fix is supposed to be the power button that is held for a minute or two with battery. This does not work in this case.
  I would rather not throw the laptop in the bin...

I tried to start in Safe Mode, but of course it doen't work. The screen displays a small bar as it loads, but after a while goes back to the same blank screen and nothing happens. I tried waiting half an hour, but nothing changes. I have not tried to launch utility disk in Recovey Mode because I'm afraid of what will happen to my files. Unfortunately, I unwisely postponed to back up files and now I'm afraid to do anything that my fry them all without me even realizing it. Can you offer any solution that is as safe as possible?  I don't have a cable Thunderbolt.
