Re recovery disk - install the OS after upgrade HD

I bought my HP a little more than a year, and the hard drive just died. Of course, the HP warranty was only good for a year, even if the warranty of the manufacturer for this HD model, when purchased separately, is three years. It would be nice if HP has extended the term of warranty even for components which he uses as the manufacturers of these components, but I digress.

So my only choice was to buy a new HD. I decided to update as long that I had to reinstall the OS anyway, but when I tried to reinstall the operating system using the recovery discs, I received a message that the installation could not proceed because the size of HD did not match what my computer was built with.

It has to be a way around it. If it does not exist, it is a horrible feature that prevents people from upgrading their systems, or recover their systems in the event of a failure of the HD. If there is no work-around, then my only option is to purchase a retail version of Windows 7 and other software that came with my computer. It's probably $300 in the software, as well as the replacement of HD $200. Ouch. If this is the case, and I knew about this beforehand, I would have never bought a HP.

Thanks for any info.

Hello _glitch_, I understand your frustration with the whole restore HP Recovery disk.

There may be an option to work around this problem, but it would need to buy another HDD 640 GB that you were originally in the HP system, but continue to use your new OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120 GB drive.

Here a link to the OCZ Forum where information to make a disc image of Windows 7.

Here a link to NewEgg where the 640 GB Western Digital HDD (WD6400AAKS) can be found. (Note the comments)

You can buy this new hard drive and install it. Then use your restore HP Recovery disk set to recover your operating system and applications.

This should put your system back as it was when shipped. After having updated your system software and all personal preferences, you could then make an image of the WD hard drive and save this image on another hard drive, or you can create another partition on the WD hard drive to store the image C: on.

If you choose this approach, you must leave the installed WD hard drive and install the new OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120 GB so the picture C: drive is accessible from the new partition hard disk WD.

You then couuld use the Bootdisk you did in the process of hard disk image, to Prime the system for, and then select the source where the image of the original hard drive has been kept on the new partition on the WD hard drive, and use that image for installation on the new OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120 GB drive.

The new WD hard drive could be used as a backup hard drive, so you lose no money, having to buy the new WD hard drive.

I know that all this is a bit extreme, but just an option to recover your operating system and applications and be able to use your new OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120 GB drive and gain a new WD drive for backup purposes.

I have the impression is the reason why HP does not allow these restore disc HP Recovery be used on a hard drive of different ability, to prevent users from making copies of the software on a different drive system hard.

Just some thoughts.

  • Satellite l.660-12 q - would the recovery disk rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition

Talk about confusion. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 work after the HARD drive failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will be the recovery disk (if buy you one from Toshiba) rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS) and accept the product key printed on the Windows license, attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions, but these have been considered incorrect by others.

Surely, Toshiba must have a way to sort this problem.

    They read these messages?

    Hey Buddy

I don't think it's really complicated, that I could find all the information about the recovery procedure in the user's manual

The recovery disk must be created on the first day of purchase its recommended to create one in case something would be wrong with the HARD drive.

The recovery disk contains an image. The image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff pre-installed on the notebook.
You bought the laptop and the system has already been activated so that you have need of t the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
In addition, the use of the recovery disc formats the drive HARD integer (partitions too) and set the laptop in the same condition as at the first day of the purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HARD drive recovery. This HARD drive recovery requires no recovery disk. The recovery disc HARD would be to use format ONLY partition C (System).

  • Manufacturing recovery disks when the computer hangs when burning the DVD the first time

I bought a new desktop computer HP Desktop Core I-7. When I first connected, I started to burn the recovery disks. The problem is, the first burned disc and then the computer locked up before burning DVD 2 and 3 and had to be restarted. Now, I can't complete the game of recovery disks.

The good news is that I have used the first disc to access the recovery partition on the hard disk to rebuild everything, but now I did put a good recovery. Can I fix? Or do I have to hope that my drive will never block? Can I save the partition of subsequent restoration of a hard disk crash?

  • Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after upgrade HARD drive

    Hello

I just installed a new hard drive for my Toshiba laptop Equium I contacted Toshiba who informed me that I could mount up to 1 TB, I opted for with a 500 GB at halfway.
After installing the drive I inserted the disc of recovery after a while, it was loaded with the operation completed successfully message. Next message put in place windows could not configure windows to run on this computer hardware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on installation, this restart of the computer...

At the end of the restore process a message tells me to remove the recovery disc and output as soon as I get the laptop stops and doesn t re boot automatically. During the next restart windows message Vista starts for the first time then the cycle starts again. I tried to reload several times recovery according to the instructions, but not good.

    Any help much appreciated

I put t know which model of laptop you have, but if the recovery image is Vista, it must be quite old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't experiment with the upgrade of the HARD drive on older models, but I can imagine the image recovery are a problems with hard drives with huge capacities.

Display please model name and which HDD you inside now.
By the way: if possible, try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. I m it will be safe works without any problem.

  • New HP HARD drive > load recovery disks > fails to start after the installation process on the press continue

I have Pavilion d7-4165dx laptop. I saw US, that made a purchase of the United States (BestBuy).

-HARD drive failed after renewal of antivirus software trial period.

-All diagnoses would not recognize the HARD drive.

-Support HP said still in warranty, but I am out of country. HP said more was likely HARD drive cable.

-Buy cables and a hand off USA door.

    -Installed, always the same answer.

-Ordered the new HP's HARD drive. Out of stock. Finally inquiring was commissioned to a part 3rd US rep. He recommended to buy directly from output, but higher speed. Did this and then HP replacement HARD drive arrives. Both outside the U.S. door hand.

-Install the fastest (slightly smaller) Seagate 500G 7200. Has started the recovery with discs of recovery (5 in total who received from BestBuy, but not the OEM to the research), but before the new HARD drive is smaller than the original WD 640 G 5400. Put WD #1 Bay and Seagate in #2.

-Start the process of disk recovery. Any resumption of the process of the plant and on the last drive-through, it says do not touch while the PC starts on and outside, etc. Said so press on continue continue.

-When the press continue, simply goes to the black screen with "No boot device...". »

-Run the other options, the same message.

-Diagnosis of ran. Drive HARD everything is OK.

-Called HP support. It says I have to buy the HP recovery discs. Those I have (5) is not the right one, there should be only 3! They are that I got from BestBuy, but look like they were made here when BestBuy configures the PC.

    Suggestions anyone?

Someone has found the problem for me today...

"Put WD #1 Bay and Seagate in #2.

  • Recovery disk works does not after replacing hard drive Pavilion dv7

Hello. I have problems of replacement of a failed hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv7-6154nr notebook running Windows 7. New HARD drive seems to install OK, but I get a Windows Boot Manager error when I try to run the recovery disks created when the system was purchased. The message says "the boot selection failed because a required device is not accessible" "status: Oxc000000f. I changed the boot order in the BIOS to boot from the internal DVD player but continue to make the same mistake

More info: I upgraded the HARD drive from a Toshiba MK6476GSX - 640 GB - 5400 RPM for a WD Black 7500BPKTSP. I don't see any info in the new HARD drive in system information / BIOS so I don't know if it is recognized. However, it take and pass a diagnostic test.

Can someone help and find a solution?
Is it possible to manually run the toshiba recovery software?
Or maby a way to recover the disk storage internal in another way?

    Thank you

    Hello

I don't know if your note is a US or European but manual model displayed must be the American version.
In any case, its operation is quite similar.
Laptop comes with preinstalled OS (recovery image) also saved original recovery image on the HARD drive.
If long HDD is not defective and laptop to factory settings you will be able to install the HARD drive recovery image.
If you check this page 56 s manuals, you can see explanation and detailed instructions how to create a recovery media (USB) that you can use if the HARD drive is faulty or the installation of HARD drive recovery won start t (your situation).

I presume you didn't create this recovery USB support so now you have a problem. After your own installation of OS version your NB does not have factory settings anymore and you will not be able to access the recovery image recorded and the ability to boot the recovery image installation. Only way to have once again is installation of recovery using recovery media image.
