  • Files Windows Mail contacts are not open

My OS is Vista Home Premium 64 x.  Contacts files Windows Mail suddenly became dysfunctional.  The first indication was that individual files appeared as of the empty boxes with the exception of about 5%, which was the icon standard faceless person. When I try to open files by double clicking I get a notification that "Windows cannot open this file...". ».  However, I can open them via the edit function. When I click on the file, the preview image is displayed in the sidebar.  When I check the properties she reads "opens with: unknown Application.»  None of the contacts files were imported, they were all created by me.

The only change I made to the PC is uninstall a Lexmark printer and an HP printer installation.  I did a reset to the point the uninstall/install and the problem persists.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Try to go in the Panel. Default programs | Associate a type of file or Protocol with a program and then find and highlight the .contact file type and then click on change program button, and then set the program on Windows Contacts.

    See if that fixes it.

  • Importing files into Windows Mail .dbx

I'm trying to convert the Outlook Express .dbx files Windows Mail .eml files.  I followed the instructions, and I get an error message saying that there are no files in the folder or the files are in use by another application, neither of which is true.  I checked to make sure that they are not files "read only".

    Bluejacket01,

If they don't work, at what stage you're having trouble, and you receive this error message (if any)?

    Hi Suzanne,.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1. what exactly does the type of computer not in order to solve the problem?

2 he or she perform the upgrade on the spot or a custom Windows installation?

Meanwhile, you can find the default location of Windows Mail and check if all files are present in the place.

The default location for Windows Mail in Windows Vista is:

    C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe

If the type of computer has upgraded the on-site, the Windows Mail folder must be present in the folder Windows.old

    3. In the left pane, click Windows Mail. Both values should be displayed in the right pane: one is by default, which has a value of Windows Mail, and the other DLLPath, that contains the path to Msoe.dll on your computer.
    4. If the DLLPath value is not present, click Edit, point to newand then click string value.
    5. New value #1 appears, with the selected text. Type DllPath, and then press the ENTER key.

By default, Windows Mail stores its data in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.  Enable the display of hidden files to see.

  • Installation of Windows Mail after system recovery

Hello. I need help to set up Windows Mail after a system recovery. I have Vista Home premium. My ISP is Comcast, so I have a Comcast email address. I did a full backup on an external HD before the resumption. I have not used Windows Mail since Jan. 27. Since then, I've been access my mail on the site Web of Comcast.

I need to know the correct sequence of steps to set up Windows mail. Is it to drag the contents of the folder from my outside to my computer? Do I need to configure the info from the first acct (pop etc.) before you transfer the contents of the folder? I want all my old mail book and the address in the new configuration. These seem to be backed up on my external.

Also once I'm set up should I expect to see all letters sent since Jan. 27? I don't mind what happens. I just want to know what to expect.

Thanks in advance for your help

First, set up your account in Windows Mail.   If you want messages that you see in Windows Mail to remain available in Comcast web messaging, configure the account to leave messages on the server. When you click send/receive , it will download all of the messages that are stored on your Comcast email server.

To import your old messages in Windows Mail, press ALT + F , click on import > Messages > Microsoft Windows Mail 7 > Next , find the mail backup folder and follow the instructions.  The old post will go into a folder called folder imported , and you can move it to other records there if you wish.

By default, Windows Mail saves its messages in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.  AppData is a hidden, so turn on the display of the hidden files and folders first.

To import your contacts, copy them to the contacts saved to the new folder.  By default, Windows Vista stores contacts in C:\Users\\Contacts.

  • How can a computer breakdown, I get my Windows Mail files?

I was under the impression that by moving files from my server to the local folder all my emails have been saved on my hard drive. However, my hard drive crashed and I had to use data recovery to recover my files. Now I can not find the windows mail files. A tech guy told me that all my emails were actually only saved on the application not on my computer, is it true? You export the files in order to save messages? How do you do that?

    Thank you!

    Amanda

    The default location is;
    "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail".

If you used a customer web email msgs are stored on the web messaging server, if you used windows mail applications they are saved on the disk, your tech is not very tech.

  • Where are the files of Windows Mail messages and contacts stored in Windows 7?

I backed up a Windows 7 system and restored to factory State by doing a restore of the system because the system has been seriously infected by viruses.  I couldn't do the export before the system recovery.

Now, given the Windows 7 system restore brand new I am trying to restore Windows Mail account.  In fact, I can't tell if it was a front window Mail or Windows Live Mail.  I don't know if the locations of the files for messages and contacts of these two letters are different.

When I go to c:\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\, I don't see Windows Live Mail but Windows Mail.  So does that mean it was a Windows Mail system not a before Windows Live Mail System.  I copied the files saved in Windows Mail system on the same path directory in the newly recovered system, but it doesn't seem to make a difference when I open Windows Live Mail, which is the only e-mail program on the newly recovered Windows 7 system.

Can someone confirm the locations of the files to messages and contacts, Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail in the operating system Windows 7 home.  Can I just copy the files on?  With Outlook 2007 and 2010, she usually works if I simply copy the files or import from the saved file.  Also should which file names be so that I can easily identify them?  Are the mail accounts and password setup to re - enter as Outlook 2007/2010 or are stored in the files I can simply copy to the new system?

  • When I try to copy the files from Windows Mail on Vista on a USB key I get the message "you are about to copy this file without its properties

I move the file from my old PC which took place with Vista on a new computer running with Win 10 where I have Windows Live Mail is installed.  When I try to copy the files from Windows Mail on Vista on a USB key I get the message "you are about to copy this file without its properties".  After studying this issue on the forums, a proposed solution was to reformat the drive in NTFS format, I did.  This does not solve the problem.  Any suggestions?  Would it be OK in this case to ignore the message and copy the file without its properties?

Well data files/user of vista should work. Yes a NTFS format is good, go to run, or cmd, type:

diskmgmt.msc in msc, R.click on the material, delete the partition, create one, format. Use the default settings,

Once thru, L.click the disk, go to actions, all, select 'enable '.

  • Move the files of Thunderbird to Windows Mail

I searched high and low for a solution to my problem. Nothing that I find works for me. I used Windows Mail in the past but had problems, but I hope they have been corrected. I moved to Thunderbird and now I want to move my emails to WM. I can't find something that works. I have several email addresses in Thunderbird which is separate files, some people have folders within them.

Is there a simple solution on how to import my mails from Thunderbird to Windows Mail?

You can upgrade to Windows Live Mail; Windows Mail has been abandoned with no other work for him (and probably has the same issues you encountered earlier).  WLM uses sets of folder for each account, not mising as with WM.
