Reformatting hard drive

Hi all

I would like to get answers from the experts associated with format the hard drive and reinstall Windows.

And my question is: if I format my hard drive and reinstall Windows, will my machine features aquire and new internal codes of Windows so that the machine can be considered as a NEW machine?

Thanks in advance,
J_CAMPOS

As I said before, if you have made any hardware changes(for example, replacing the motherboard) and are using the original installation cd, reinstallation of the operating system (OS) is not a 'new' computer. You can pass if you do not have the product key.

    Hello

You have a set of recovery DVDs, you should be able to start the reinstallation of the operating system by inserting Disc1 into the CD/DVD drive (close a window that can be opened when you do this), then by restarting the laptop to boot from the disc.  As long as the process progresses, you will be asked to insert Disc2 and then later, Disc3.

Although he is not able to see the hard drive in the Finder, you can always delete it if we see it in disk utility. Read this article on the subject:

You will need to get the original installation discs since it's the only way to do it-call Apple and give them your serial number.

  • Can I fix Windows XP Home edition instead of reformatting hard drive?

Hi there, my girlfriends A100 laptop has developed a fault where it gets loading up xp (xp with the blue loading bar loading screen) then back to the option screen giving options such as the safe mode with network, invites order and last known configuration. None of these work. I have not changed any hardware or installed software recently. I have a disc of toshoba product recovery, what I would like to know is it give me the option to repair of xp and I like to keep my personal files or it will completely erase my hard drive for a new installation?

I used this disc today but got so far but did not select the option of recovery in the case where this removes the hard drive. This could not have come at a worse time, I spent yesterday reformat my external hard drive, so the only place where are our precious files on the laptop! If I can't repair xp I might have to buy a hard drive adapter 2.5 inch computer notebook to a desktop pc to access my files. Any help would be very very useful!

PS: apologies if there any obvious mistakes, Im using my wii to write this and his age!

Recovery time WILL erase the HARD drive. You should back up your files first.

    You have a few options:

    1) boot from a generic XP Installation CD and choose repair Windows. This may not work, the problem may be caused by anything whatsoever.

    2) boot from a Live CD Linux such as Knoppix (or BartPE XP-based) and copy your important files to the c: (Windows partition) on a USB key.

    (3) remove the laptop HARD drive and attach it to another PC using a USB 2.5 "HDD SATA Adapter (they are cheap), then copy the important files and then run the recovery.

    (4) attach the computer portable HARD drive directly on a desktop PC motherboard. The desktop PC must be equipped with SATA connectors. connectors SATA 2.5 "and 3.5" are the same.

If your hard drive is noisy and has 13 bad sectors, I suspect that there is a physical problem with the hard drive.

Your message is difficult to read, so I'm having trouble following what you're saying.

You say you have two hard drives. If the storage drive is noisy, this means that the drive with the OS right? What player has 13 bad sectors?

There is absolutely no need to use fdisk or an installation CD of Windows 98SE to format a hard drive and install Windows XP. You have the corresponding Windows XP appropriate installation CD? In other words, it corresponds to the license you have? What is XP Home, Pro or MCE? Retail, OEM or OEM generic to brand? Full or upgrade?

  • After reformatting, hard drive named L not C.

I was reformat the hard drive for more than 16.5 hours a bad virus kept this interference. The last two times, he finally went through, but both times the hard drive has been named (L) (C).

I am quite at a loss on this one! Any ideas?

It is the only hard drive in the computer.

    Hi docfnt,

If possible, you can try to connect the hard drive to another computer and then format the hard drive. Afterwards, connect the hard drive on your machine & check if it works very well.

Note: Once you connect the hard disk on the other machine, it assigns a drive letter as the C: drive. However, when you connect the hard drive on your machine after formatting, it should show the c: drive.

  • Very slow - Window 7, 266 mHz i7, Geforce 9800 GTx graphics card - computer was reformat hard drive, reloaded windows 7 and without other installed programs/games.

My computer is running very slowly - i7 (quad) 266 Mhz and Geforce 9800 GTX graphics card.  I had this computer for about a year.  The problems seemed to start about 3 months when I started to play a game - Empire Total war with Steam.  The computer ran more slow and more slowly, gradually.  I tried all the clean disk, speed up programs, he worked once for a few days and then become very slow.  Finally, I backed up my files and reformat the hard drive and reloaded windows 7.  My computer has nothing loaded except windows 7 and is always very slow! Hardware issues? Help, please.

Set of utilities to test for computer HARDWARE manufacturers:

Note: If you are OverClocking or use an automatic overclocking or BIOS features, energy saving
Start by disabling: Intel EIST, Turbo Mode, Cool and pretty
and fall at the speed of stock as a starting point.

Disconnect the other internal hard drives and external USB devices.
Look for any loose hard drive power or cables SATA, graphics card or other power cables.

    CPU ID (CPUZ): http://www.CPUID.com/cpuz.php
Watch the clock speed of the CPU under various conditions of loading
(when using speed step technology Intel EIST).
    #1 Note:
CPU - ID has two tabs (memory and SPD) that indicates the actual speed of the memory and 'SPD' tab displays the nominal speeds
for each memory location is full.
    #2 Note:
COMPARE the two values, the actual speed should not exceed the rated speed of your memory.

Prime95: Displays your actual speed of the processor when using CPU ID under a heavy load.
    http://www.Mersenne.org/freesoft/
It's a stand alone .exe file contained in an archive .zip.
Simply choose to run the 'stress test' option for 3 hours or more.
If your PC can pass this test, your memory and CPU
are very good (close the housing cover in order to maintain adequate ventilation)

    Core Temp:
The temperature of each core of the processor.
Note: For the overclockers using stock radiator and cooling fan Intel/AMD, you can expect a temperature range of
    35 to 40 ° C at idle and 60-65 c max when running Prime95.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Also: Try running Memtest86 +: it runs from a floppy disk or CD, you must remove or
confirm whether your one or more of your sticks of memory are bad or the values of the SPD in the BIOS are correct.
Let it run for as long as you can: 2,4,6,8 or several hours (at least 3 full passes), if no errors at that time then your ram is OK.

    Hello Robsta

Believe you did not need the step by step tutorials or shoots screen. The recovery procedure is very simply.

Put the recovery CD in the CD/DVD drive
Turn on the laptop and keep C button for a few seconds
Follow the menu on the screen
Choose option 1 for installation in Standard mode and just follow what is happening on the screen

    Hello

First, I would try to update the audio driver.
Usually the audio page of the European driver Toshiba driver should work to find, but the most recent driver is downloadable always on the chip manufacturer page
The sound chip is Realtek to try the driver for the HD directly from pages Realtek audio Manager.

You must uninstall it before you install the new audio driver, one installed
After installation, do not forget that the digital output was chosen as default device
In Control Panel-> sound-> reading tab, you can do this
