Remove data for a downgraded ESXi host syslog collector?

Hello

We already put out of service an ESXi 5 host in the cluster.

However, network Syslog Collector, the host still appears with the hostname / IP address and the size of the log (about 18 MB).

We would like to seek your advice on how to remove this entry to ESXi host Syslog collector Page.  Should I restart the service "VMware vSphere Syslog Collector" on vCenter Server?

Thank you

If the server esxi already downgraded in judgment of sate, then you can delete the syslog file (in vcenter) to as esxi. If the underwater ESXI still running, you can disable forewall port for syslog (even if you can remove the host name of the syslog setting advanced collector.)

  • Requirements of ports for vCenter Server 5.1 - SysLog Collector

    Hi all

Has anyone installed a SysLog collector?

My book of vmware by Lowe mentions little on the ports for it.

During the installation of the server, he gave me a list of ports.

I accepted all the flaws, except that I changed the ports http to 81 and 8081 because IIS is installed (vmware docs say to use one port other than 80, if IIS is already installed)

Now, during the installation of the SysLog collector it asks which http port I use.

The vmware docs nothing mentioned on the syslog http port is my book. The vmware for TCP docs show that.

    ESXi Syslog Collector8001TCPESXivCenter Server

Just use port 81 as the http port I have set up for vcenter server? The web interface won't connect through this port? There will be a conflict?

I used netstat and port 82 is not used. Should I use?

    The other settings works ok?

There is no firewall involved; vCenter server and the VMs system will reside on the same site

    Thanks in advance

port 81, that is according to the third screenshot! 8081 is for Tomcat!

  • Create notification of a particular hardware for ESXi host problem?

    Hello

One of our 5.1 ESXi hosts is constantly a hardware problem (with hardware alert status).

We would like to ask for your opinion

    (1) if we create a notification, should we use 'host' alarm?

    (2) is it possible to send a notification to the staff for this particular host with error alarm "host" other than other ESXi hosts (i.e. send to Tony and Stephen for ESXi host A Harware problem BUT only sent to Tony for another hardware ESXi hosts problem)?

    Your opinion is requested.

    Hello

No, there is no option to select specific host in a cluster. When you set the alarm, it is fixed for the whole army in the cluster.

  • ESXi host does not connect more after a restart of the service LogInsight

    Hello

I put several (5.1 U1) ESXi to use the newly installed LogInsight. they sent him their event properly. I had to restart the log service Insight. After the reboot, the hosts stopped sending events. the vcenter continued, however.

I had to reload the syslog on the hosts to send their event to the perspicacity of newspaper.

    esxcli system syslog reload

any idea? I guess that's not normal behavior

    Thank you

    Eric

Hi Eric, this is unfortunately expected behavior. What you are experiencing is a bug in ESXi. More information is available in the Guide to installation/Admin under the troubleshooting log Insight section or at the following article: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003127.

ESXi newspapers stop arriving at the Insight Journal

After you restart the log service Insight, ESXi hosts syslog messages stop arriving at the Insight Journal.

    Problem

In Insight Journal configuration changes require that you restart the log Insight service. After the restart, syslog RSS of ESXi are no longer available.

    Cause

Some versions of ESXi stop balls sending if connectivity to the remote syslog listener is stopped, even for a short moment. This problem affects the following versions of ESXi, depending on the communication protocol used.

  • ESXi host change IP back to the old Configuration in vCenter

Hi all! I'm having a problem with a host computer in my vCenter. I had 2 guests and both were in the same network. I moved to a remote site and change its IP from 10.10.2.253 to 10.10.3.250.

While I'm trying to connect it to the vCenter, he connects well then (in vCenter) he's trying to connect to his old address IP 10.10.2.253.

I have reset the vCenter, database, but it still does not work. When I move first the host at the remote site, I did not disconnect. I deleted it just (may be the source of this problem).

Can someone help me on this one? A big thank you.

    Hi Alex,

is it possible for you to create a record of host DNS (A) for this remote ESXi host name and then add to vCenter using its FULL domain name rather than IP address?

  • Script to check the version of Cisco VEM on ESXi host

    Hallo,

I need help, a script to check and report in a CSV file, the version of Cisco Nexus 1000v VEM on all ESXi hosts connected to a vCenter.

Basically, "vem version - v" but for all the ESXi hosts connected to a vCenter.

    Thank you

    Joseph

I suspect you could use PowerShell v1, in this version that the Export-Csv has not had the UseCulture parameter.

Try to run the script without this parameter.

But I would strongly suggest to upgrade your version of PowerShell (v3 is available)

    Hello

I use vSphere syslog collector integrated with vCenter source file.

VSphere Server Syslog Collector is one server other than my VM vCenter.

I did the installation of Syslog Collector by default vSphere (2 Mb log, with rotation of 8 file)

My ESXi hosts are configured and everything works

Now, I would like to increase the retention of newspaper 8 rotation is too low for my infrastructure. How can I do?

I try to use the active client vSphere (with syslog plugin) but I see a summary of parameters syslogs and a list of connected host, it seems that I can't change anything this way

He try to find something on the server on which vSphere Syslog Collector is installed (IE 64 bit of Windows Server 2003), but nothing is available in the start menu or control panel (I only see vSphere Syslog Collector in "Add/Remove Programs")

so, how (re) configure Syslog Collector vSphere?

    Yannick

Go to C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Syslog Collector and you will find a file named: vmconfig-syslog

If you open it with the en editor you will find something like this:

    514

    TCP, UDP

    2

    8

    1514

Here, you can change it shake number and size.

    Kind regards

  • 5.5u2 ESXi host will not mount CF data warehouses

I am the admin in a test lab, so many times I have to "make do" with what I have for the material.  I recently reassigned a R910 Dell with 64 GB memory in a 5.5u2 ESXi host.  It has some storage SAS (2.5 to) and some (CT 11) directly connected FC storage and some FC HBAs for use by VMs to send data to the tape library.

Recently, we had a power failure, and this host does not reconnect to the CF storage when she returned to the top.  (Duty to "make do" with what I means not having is not the capabilities of UPS).  I can tell the host of HBA see it properly and sees the LUNS on RAID controllers, but refuses to mount.  I go through the add storage Wizard, and he sees that there is a store of data storage VMFS, but always refuses to mount.  I also tried to remove the redirection to the two FC HBA that have been set up for this purpose, but it made no difference.

I have now three users unable to work because they cannot access their virtual machines on storage of this FC.  I can't even transfer them off to use the SAS storage form.

I think it might be the cause file system damage, but I'm not sure.  Someone at - it suggestions?

Have you ever tried to set up data warehouses from the command line (see, for example, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011387)?

disassemble => detach (you will need to perform this step on all esxi hosts)-online san team will be unmap-online beginning of movement storage (storage poweroff) => move the storage-online poweron-online san team will map the data-attach online store ((need to perform this step on all esxi hosts) => set up the data store)

    Register for all virtual machines

PowerOn all VMs if get message (moved or copied) select moved.

He doesn't throw any errors, will work flawless.

    Query3:

Yes we must cancel the registration of all models and virtual computers before disassembling a data store.

  • How to remove ESXi host of Distributed Switch

    3 Cluster DRS - 1 x physical, 2 nested nodes in a LAB environment

I need to downgrade a 6.0 U2 ESXi host and replace it (from ESXi nested in Physics). I am trying to remove the host from a distributed switch, but it seems that I can't do that until I remove it from the Distributed Switch. I can't remove the VMkernel group management ports that prevents me to remove the host from the Distributed Switch. Any suggestions? I guess that I need that migrate to a Standard switch first?

I am connected to the ESXi host through vSphere Client, migrated the group management to a Standard switch ports, then I was able to clear the host of the distributed switch. I could then remove the host from the Cluster.

  • Permisions required for mounting NFS on ESXi host

    Hi team,

In our java application uses) use API VMWARE to mount the NFS datastore on the ESXi host. But to do this, we need the ESXI root permissions. Because having credentials root door reached the safety of the system, we would like to create a user with the required permissions will be sufficient to add the mounting NFS on ESXi host.

But do not know how to see the permissions required for the Assembly of the NFS on ESXi host. Pointers would be useful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

Storage permissions lies in the roles of Group of data store.

You should have a default profile role of storage in your vCenter.

  • List of stores of data for each host

I want to ask each ESXi host for the information store and return to a csv file the following:

Host name ESXi, data store, State of the data store name

    I started with:

    Get-vmhost | Get-Datastore. Export Csv C:\script\reports\test.csv - NoTypeInformation

Looks like I have to make one for every maybe?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello, KTatUC-

Of course, there are plenty of ways to do things - would a ForEach-Object.  Another way, taking advantage of the parameter - PipelineVariable in PowerShell v4, would be like:

    Get-VMHost -PipelineVariable oThisVMHost | Get-Datastore | Select-Object @{n="VMHost"; e={$oThisVMHost}},Name,State

Then, that uses a calculated property to add VMHost to the selected output.  You could direct to Export-Csv or do what you like.  How is that?
