RHEL 5 P2V converter server to support static IP address problem

Hello!

I am doing an internship where I set up a VMware ESXi 5.1 environment, and I have to P2V a couple of servers RHEL (5 and 6).

So now I'm looking for how the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client 5.0.1. I've done a few P2V, successfully!

But it seems that whenever I want to do a P2V, I have to use a different static IP address by using the converter server because otherwise the converter stops at 1% and tries to connect using the converter server.

What I don't understand, is that I'm only a P2V both, and so the IP addresses I use are reserved and are not of any other machine.

Does anyone know what is the problem? Because if I have to make a couple more P2V, I'm out of IP addresses I use...

Thanks in advance!

Hello

We were able to identify the problem and it is not in the converter itself, but rather related to the physical infrastructure. The problem is in the ARP cache on the bridge of the target network. After the first conversion, he has cached an ARP entry for the IP address for assistance. When you start the second conversion, the new virtual machine that is created has a new network card with a new MAC address, but the entry door is not aware of this change when Converter Server tries to connect to the help, the gateway sends IP packets to the wrong MAC address and finally they are deleted. When the cache ARP on the bridge which expires - that the problem be resolved automatically (in our environment by default, it is 15 minutes, but it depends on the material specifc and configuration).

A possible workaround is to generate network traffic coming from within the VM assistance program (e.g. a ping to the IP address of default gateway) which generate an ARP traffic and update the gateway ARP cache. Instructions how to connect using VM are available at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=1036746. Once you sign in, you can test anything (same IP invalid target does the job) and the conversion should proceed immediately.

HTH,

Ivan

I installed new positions of work on my network and had WDS push the image so we have installed DHCP to do this. After all the work stations were Setup, I started to change static IP DHCP on the workstations as we prefer to use static IP addresses.  Some computers work fine, some don't. The problem I have is when changing from a static IP, as active network passes the network of the area to the Public network. However, when it is configured to use DHCP, the active network is the domain network. What am I, I missing which will cause the active networks of change to public networks at the static IP change? I checked the settings ip IP, Subnet, DG and DNS and they seem correct. I tried to withdrawal, join. I tried the update NIC driver. I tried to uninstall the NETWORK adapter and reboot. • Static IP address problem of 5555 ASA

I'm trying to static IP assignments of installation by the following documentation:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/security/ASA/asa80/asdm60/selected_topics/enforce_AD.html

My colleague and I have the impression that we have pretty much tried everything and yet we are not able to get the IP address defined in AD (Numbering tab) to come on our system.

It gets the configuration AD card to the following address:

    msRADIUSFramedIPAddress IETF-RADIUS-Framed-IP-Address card name

The plan is applied to the LDAP listing

We have a card already working protocols - attributes msNPAllowDialin restrict tunneling.

No matter how we configure things, the IP address that we are allocated after connection comes from our server DHCP to Windows, not the Numbering tab.

I keep thinking that we overlook something simple, any ideas?

    Thank you

I think that the best way to know is to turn on debugging of things related to RADIUS on your ASA and see if the mapping of attributes actually happens and how it happens. Static assignment must always take precedense over dhcp, so here something wrong with mapping, I guess...

I have seen discussions on this message, but they all refer to dynamic IP address, taken from DHCP, as in my case, I use static IP address.

Can someone tell me what is happening?

    Hello

I assume you are using converter 5.5. There is a new feature that allows the selection of the network card. However, it works well in the case of Linux P2V. If you have changed the type of adapter, use 'e1000' or 'auto' and try again.

    * Converter Server is running

    * There is no firewall is blocking the port 443

    Configure the time zone

Configure passwords (for root and ciqadmin)

installation via CapacityIQ page, I set the record with vCenter

I rebooted the client of VIC and the plugin appeared in vCenter and I was able to run reports, etc.

Then I changed the IP address on the host of the server DHCP to static and it snapped communications to vCenter

and the plug-in icon disappeared. via the web page of Caron, I was unable to get communication to work again.

SO, I deleted CapacityIQ unit and redeployed following the same steps.

Now, when I sign up is said a capacity IQ server is already configured and I can 'force' the

record, but it still does not work. (it's a little different as the old "ovf" deployment never said anythign about try a 'force')

Because nothing did not work, I read the manual and tried the console to force registration and "delete."

    using the instructions below:

I logged in as "ciqadmin" (after finding root did not work)

    > register - ciq-admin < IP > vc-server force - user < myID > - < mypassword > passowrd
    > other CIQ is registered in the CR. Unsubscribe it or register with indicator of strength of CLI.

    Yet when I try

    > unregister the ciq-admin

    > VC already unregistered

    It's like I can't force him, and I can't cancel the registration.

We host VMware vCenter support but when I called they won't help me w / CapacityIQ (which doesn't look good).

No matter which deal with this yet? The thing that I should try?

    Thank you

    Jonathan Reininger

    Hi Jonathan,.

First, let's make sure that you properly run forced registration. Here is the command line that you typed:

    CIQ-admin check - vc-Server Force - user passowrd -

    It should read as follows:

    CIQ-admin sign up - vc-Server -force - user -password

Especially pay attention to the two dashes before 'strength', since it is a command line switch. Once you have verified if it works or not, we can dig more deeply if necessary.

  • P2V a server that uses a San disk is the same SAN as VMWare... no problem?

My physical mailbox is called FILESERVER and it was low on space, so I created a disc on my VMWare cluster SAN is on.

Now I want this server P2V.  It's going to be a problem being that one of the drives is already on the SAN?  Otherwise, once it is converted is just turn off the physical and the deletion of this volume now unused on the SAN?

    ESX3.5 U5 currently with virtualcenter 4

    Thank you!

That will be no problem and the Siu is as simple as that, once you P2V - remove the volume not used.

I wouldn't do it - if the operation fails on 90% you have to start...

Instead I would first use a local target and compress the VMDK, then send them over WAN.

    It should be more reliable

  • Static IP address of WiFi requires the DNS server

I was able to confirm this on two separate MacBook Pro (various models) the two Yosemite running 10.11.4.

After assigning a static IP address to the wireless network interface, the MacBook ping to a address beyond the gateway by default unless there is also a DNS server on the wireless interface. I wouldn't need a public IP address ping DNS server.

    For example:

    This method works.

    But it does not work:

At least I have change the DNS like this:

    Then it starts working again.

    Rob

What exactly are you trying to do?

You try to assign a Mac with a LAN IP address? If so, do it in the router by selecting an IP address on the local network to use with the Mac Machine (MAC address). This assumes that your router is your DHCP server. Otherwise, you need a DNS server that is running on your local network to be able to distribute IP of DHCP addresses.

  • Static IP address on the server 2008R2 disconnecting Internet

Please help with a static IP configuration on VMware.

I would like to configure Active Directory on VMware with FULL INTERNET AND IP ADDRESS, please help.

    Scenarios

I use VMware on Windows 8.1 10 and that's what strikes me:

    1. After installing server 2008R2 on VMware and the activation of the "Connection NAT" network card, I had full access to the internet.
    2. 1920168.5.2 to server static IP address assignment disconnect internet.
    3. Add more network on the server to reconnect to the internet but removes the static IP address.
    4. Even the bridge two network cards, I still get internet access.
    5. Active directory cannot be installed on a dynamic IP address
    6. I connect using wireless (my cell phone as a modem).

Your help will be greatly appreciated

After following your instructions, I discovered that VM DNS is 192.168.111.2. Both the DNS and gateway uses the same IP address, DNS is indeed the gateway to NAT. la... 111... changes when you reset the VM machine. Also, I discovered that the DHCP of the VM is 192.168.111.128 as you put it. Now place the Client Server on the same network of VM IP, thus, take the given dynamic IP 192.168.111.128/129/130/131 etc, make it static. Assigning 192.168.111.2 as gateway and DNS, provides access to the internet. However, after configuring Active directory member servers will not find the domain controller uses the DNS of VM.  Instead, insert the IP of the VM DNS as secondary preferred over the IP of the DNS server (for example, DC1, DC2 mem1 etc.) in the preferred DNS. Then... VOALA... Is set with full internet access.

It was a challenge to the calm, but I give you the thumbs up for your lead. You are the best.
