Satellite 1670CDS - re-installing Windows 98SE

I have an old laptop 1670CDS (from days girls University) I got to the bottom of the Forum.
As a favor to a friend - he has a temporary use of a portable simple to some Word / Excel work-, BUT I'm having problems to get things set up on this machine again.

I managed to acquire an additional memory to hold the original 32 MB up to 160 MB, which was mounted without any problems.

At the start, but the system does not find any operating system. I have no idea how this could be other than some clean disc in the dark and distant past.
I can't find the original system recovery disk, could be anywhere between Leeds / Edinburgh and here - you know what look like students.

I tried to install W98SE from a CD, and this product (but slowly) until it reaches a point that the system displays a message about the "partitions".

The screen displays a line: * 5727 MB disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi (MBR) *.

Below, we find what appears to be the first line of a list + States -: partition1 Mo 5726 (unknown) (5726 MB free)
(This is the only entry in the list box)

The options are:
(a) press ENTER to set up Windows XP on the selected item
(b) press C to create a partition in the sapce unparitioned
(c) press D to delate this partition

So far, I have tried
(a) implemented the system reboots and crashes
(b) nothing happens
(c) message is displayed indicating that it is a system partition and it may contain config hardward, programs to start operating
systems (e.g. Windows XP), or other manufacturer-supplied programs.
Then I have the ability to DELETE the partition, or return to the previous screen.

I'm not sufficiently confident to take the risk of delting the partition, without some assurance that I can get things sorted another way.

I missing something here, and should I go on his way to another? Or am I flogging a dead horse.

Any help / pointers appreciated.

Otto

Hello!

I think that this problem is caused by a faulty HARD drive.
Check that the disk with Drive Fitness Test as Akuma said.

http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a disk and boot from it. Choose the advanced test.
On the same site is a guide to the user short if you want to know more about it.

Good bye

Can someone help me or tell me the best thing to do?

I bought my Toshiba Satellite L300D two years ago and it broke last year because I hit it a little because of the internet. So I sent offshore to a friend of my uncle, who has replaced the drive with a 35 GB hard inside you. But now, whenever I turn on my laptop I get the blue screen and it cannot cross, he says that windows can be corrupted and is not loading and it says to use the original installation CD, but I don't have one, but I have a Windows XP one and I would make Windows XP instead of Vista.

Is there anything I can do to get it working again? Please help me quickly

    Hey,.

    > use the original installation CD, but I have not a
Yes, because you have to create this disk yourself using preinstalled creator of media recovery Toshiba as mentioned in the user manual.
Have you read the user manual?

You can order a recovery disc that will restore the original settings of the case:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

Of course, you can install Windows XP s no problem. Just make sure you can get all the drivers on the official page of download driver Toshiba. If so, boot from the XP disc and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

I have read a few forums, and if I could find the drivers, I think I'd be able to fix it with a pen.

    Hello!

I m a bit confused at the moment because you try to install Windows 7, but then you have written on that Windows 7 doesn't t detect the CD/DVD drive.

I mean, normally, you must boot from the Windows 7 installation disc and follow the instructions on the screen.
The CD/DVD driver is part of the operating system and can t be updated or something else.

Maybe the Windows 7 disc isn t working properly so can you install another OS, such as Toshiba Recovery disk?

  • Re: Need of Satellite L500-13W - installing Windows XP - details

I have a laptop Toshiba L500 13W originally shipped with windows Vista.
I have already installed Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, but I don't like Vista or 7, becausa of this new interface of the taskbar.
So I thought to install windows xp on it.

Toshiba offers drivers, but I had problems to install xp on a Vista desktop computer designed.
I had to make a special CD with SATA drivers, which toshiba does not provide for this laptop.

So I wanted to know if somone to people that you have already installed xp on this laptop model.
If you had problems, what drivers did you use, and if the original disc to factory worked.

    Thank you for reading,

    Please reply!

    Hi mate

First of all, you can install Windows XP on this laptop without the installation of the SATA drivers too.
In the BIOS, you will need to set the compatible SATA controller mode (instead of AHCI).
This will simulate an IDE HDD controller and it does not all SATA drivers.

Of course, it s advisable to install SATA drivers due to the performance of the HARD drive but Win XP runs in compatible mode too.

The laptop L500-13W belongs to the series of PSLJ3E.
You should choose this series to download driver.

You can download the drivers from the European driver Toshiba page.

Intel Storage Manager contains the SATA drivers

  • Satellite P750 - trouble installing Windows 10

Hello everyone, I am confident I can get help. I have a portable Satellite P750 (PSAY3A - 02l 001) not having to install the free update of Windows 10 W7 tried to install several times error code C1900101-40017 follow-up instructions (trouble shoot microsoft) to nothing does not. What I understand, my laptop (above) seems to have a problem with the Bluetooth RF Comm, and maybe it's the question about the installation. Can someone help thanks to a correction, I am not PC read and write in the full sense, so I'll need some help in simple terms please. When checking the initial installation, the information is that my laptop is compatible, contradicted by the above error and (not compatible) Bluetooth device?

Thank you very much in advance if anyone can help.
    Keith.

One of the drivers need updating or deletion in Win8.1

In the control panel under Apps, uninstall the driver, touchpad, wireless, driver display driver and pilot Bluetooth audio.
Then run Windows Update to install the updated drivers.

  • Can satellite A500 - I install Windows 7 64 bit?

I first bought a Satellite A500 with 4 GB of RAM there are a little over 3 months with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium installed. Initially, I got the original dramas with finding drivers 64-bit etc., then it ran OK for a while. After about 2 & a half months I started having BSOD with error message related to a nvidia .sys file. After a few weeks of this, update the latest drivers etc and a number of unsuccessful attempts to diagnose the problem, it's that occur whenever I used the laptop and up he took the touchpad died as well. The company I bought at gave me a laptop replacement.

The new system is also a Satellite A500, and although it has a different model number and a CPU faster it is also virtually identical to the one I had already with 4 GB of RAM and graphics card from nvidia at the same address. However, for some reason Windows 7 32 bit has been pre-installed. I don't know why the company has not installed the 64-bit. A call to the dept tech with the issue gave rise to the answer "better for you", which means that 32-bit is better for me.

My laptop is capable of 64-bit. I know that when you run the 32-bit version, it uses only up to 3.2 GB of installed RAM (my system says 2.99 GB is usable - assume the rest is allocated to graphics?) but I read a post where the poster says it is running 32 bit Win 7 was actually faster than the 64-bit version though even he was not using all the RAM.

    * Can someone tell me if I'm running the 32-bit version of Windows 7 rather than the 64-bit version better? *

    * If I'm better with 64-bit, can I switch to 64-bit or what I need to do a complete reinstall? * No installation disk provided. Assume that the installation files are on the hidden partition.

Although I have not had a BSOD with this new laptop, I had a couple of instances where the system froze temporarily with the messge "your display driver has stopped working" followed by a recovery. Is this a thing Toshiba, nvidia or Windows 7? I have read quite a few other posts of people with laptops similar to mine who have had the same mistakes of Toshiba/nvidia but no resolution. * If it's going to be a problem with the graphics card, I'm better off the coast with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7? *

Any advice would be appreciated muchly.

    Hello

I a500 and run Windows Ultimate 64-bit, it's best to run 64-bit to 32-bit windows. You must copy of 64-bit Windows to install, it is not big problem to get it. All the drivers you can find on the Toshiba driver page:

  • Satellite U500 - problem installing Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello

I just bought a U500 laptop and am trying to install the 64 bit version of windows 7.
It is obtained in the section "Installation program starts Services" and comes with a Setup error saying that the laptop needs to be restarted.
When it is restarted it comes up once again with the error and keeps looping through.

7 the window was on the HARD drive when I bought and was the first option to install when the laptop started upward. There is a recovery disk, but it degrades to XP, something, I'm not keen. I tried to reboot in safe mode, all three options, nothing helps.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    > the window 7 was on the HARD drive when I bought and was the first option to install when the laptop started upward. There is a recovery disk, but it degrades to XP, something, I'm not keen

I put t understand that said you the Win 7 64 bit was preinstalled, but the recovery disc contains Win XP?

As far as I know, the most recent series of laptop is preinstalled with Win 7 64 bit and the recovery disk contains the Win 7 32 bit there is also a preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator that allows you to create the own recovery with Win 7 64 bit OS disk

However, if the laptop was preloaded with Win 7 then a HARD drive recovery option should be available also. Turn on the device, press F8, select Repair computer mu then Toshiba HDD recovery
This should start again Installing Win 7 64 bit

  • How to install Windows 98 on of A60?

I bought two A60 and want to have Windows XP and 98se on it. I formatted the hard drive (Fat32) and tried to install Windows 98se on it. Near the end of the installation, I get a blue screen with this fatal error: 0d: E000:000022 D 7. I tried a lot of things, but it won't work. What can I do to fix this?

I need Windows 98se on laptops because I have the program Central phone software. No other software is available.

    Hello

As far as I know that you have a problem if you try to install the OS old newest device. At the end of the installation process runs the detection equipment or process of recognition of hardware and motherboard, graphics card or sound card can cause problems and the blue screen.

Alternatively, you can try to install your WIN98 application and use the Compatibility Wizard of the programs on your Windows XP Home edition. Please start Help and Support Center in your Windows XP Home edition. Search for term of compatibility mode and you will find an explanation how to test your program in different modes.

You can also find it under hcp://system/compatctr/compatmode.htm.

  • Windows 98SE installation problem

    Hi all

This is my first post here.

I am installing Windows 98SE in VMware Workstation. For the VM I created, details are below.

    Screenshot (15).png

Every time when I start the installation program, it must first check the disc as usual in the installation of Windows 98, but after completing the disk check my host computer that is running Windows 8 64 -bit will be restart suddenly.

I tried several times and same problem happening over and over again.

I'm really frustrated now. Can someone help me on this.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi greatgamblerand welcome to the VMware communities!

You use Workstation version 9.0.0?  There is a flaw in this version which can cause an unexpected reboot of a host Windows 8 with a processor Ivy Bridge.  If this is your situation, update to version 9.0.1 or newer (I recommend the version 9.0.2) should solve the problem, as described in the VMware Workstation 9.0.1 Release Notes.

  • Windows 98SE, fdisk/format?

    Dear reader,

I know this has been covered before but I am almost completely new to... cordially invited MS-DOS operating systems running - I was still a young child in those older that me were folding their minds around it.

I'm running OS X 10.8 and have Vmware Fusion 4.1.3.  The problem is that I try to install Windows 98SE using this software.   I have concerned ISO installation and also the IMG for the startup disk.

Both and so good, but then we come to the installation itself during the virtual machine startup.  I type r: [Enter] [Enter] installation and something or another tells me that I "can't create a temporary directory' and then there's something about formats.  He also was drawn to my attention that perhaps I am missing a BACK at first... How could I know that?

I googled this and the words 'fdisk' and 'format' crop everywhere (as well as in these forums).  Appreciating the fact that those who were at least in their adolescence when 98SE was released probably know exactly what they need to do.  I don't have... more googling, it seems are being challenged to know what to do in the first place - first format or fdisk first?

I found this quote promising but, for me, it's entirely in another language:

I have started the virtual machine, do fdisk to one > prompt, copied in C format: on the diskette (really an iso), rebootted the machine virtual format C:, and then typed E:\win98\setup to any > prompt and I was turned off...

Be prepared to take me by the hand and show me what to do step by step and I invite you to leave as little as possible for interpretation.  I hope you can be patient with me.

    Kind regards.

I just tested a Windows 98SE installation and he didn't need a floppy disk at all. The installation immediately released the CD. Have you already tried that?

  • Advanced Power Management under Windows 98SE for Satellite A75-S206?

On my Satellite A75-S206, I have a partition on my hard drive under Windows 98SE.

When I run Windows 98 on this model, the drive keeps spinning (does not turn down), the cooling fan is still running at high speed, I can't dim the monitor, or use any other feature of the advanced power management is available when running my XP partition. The utility of generic power in my Windows 98SE (Intel speed step) management does not address these problems, even if you use custom settings. The management utilities peak power supplied with recovery for this model CD only work on XP or Windows 2000, and these advanced power management utilities will not install on Windows 98.

Is there a driver download, or is there software available for Windows 98SE downloads emulate advanced power management features that work on XP? Is there another workaround solution?

    Hello

As far as I know, this unit was designed for the American market and came only with a XP Home and XP Pro OS.
I checked the driver page Toshiba we and don t find all the drivers for Win98.
Unfortunately, if you use the Win98, do without the features of Toshiba.
Sorry, there is nothing to do.

  • No sound after installing Windows 7 on Satellite Pro U200

    Hello

I just installed Windows 7 Professional on my Satellite Pro U200 10 p.

    Available for XP Pro.

Sound has stopped working since the new facility (which fromatting the drive - no partition) and can not find a solution. The v6.10.1.6000 of SoundMAX Integrated Digittal HD Audio Driver is installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but this doesn't seem to be the right driver. I can't find info to tell me what the correct driver can be either. The Toshiba site is a little sparse on Windows 7 drivers for this model and gives no indication that the driver may be is.

Windows 7 does not think that there is a problem and some reports that "this device works properly." in speaker properties > Configuration information dialog box. However not coming out, the speakers or the 3.5 mm jack

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thank you

    James

    Hello

Go to Device Manager and check what sound chip you have exactly:

    Use this statement:
[How to identify an unknown device? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78]

Then you should be able to find a good pilot.
I also recommend remove/delete the sound card in Device Manager.
Just select the audio remove card and press on, and then restart the laptop

PS: Are you sure that the sound is not muted? Please check this too!
