Satellite L40 - 14 G Vista: When should I change the BIOS?

Hello!

You want to change OS Vista on WXP and update BIOS Toshiba Windows Vista 1, 60-VICTORY on WXP 5.10 - WIN.
When past BIOS? Before the new installation OS WXP or after.

Thank you.

Hello

I've read some suggestions here in the forum and some people put to update BIOS after installing XP and some people update the BIOS to first and then installed the XP operating system.
In both cases, is to be abele BIOS update

In my opinion you need to update the BIOS XP first, and then you can try to install XP.

    HM, that's a good question

I think I can t really help you, but have you tried to reinstall the operating system from the Toshiba Recovery disk?
I think that after that the problem needs to be solved.

Maybe someone else can explain, why they have this error or has another idea.

If someone has the original settings, I would be grateful for any help.

    Derek has soon

    Hello Derek

Use the F2 key to enter the BIOS settings and change the order of boot devices. This option is under the STARTUP tab. Otherwise, you can insert the recovery CD when the unit is turned OFF. Turn it on and immediately press the C button. keep it down for a few seconds and unit is forced from the CD/DVD drive.

  • Need driver Intel 965 Chipset for Satellite L40 - 17U running Vista Home

I have a new L40 - 17U equipped Intel 965 Chipset & Vista Home Premium. I'm not interested in games but I can't get the 'Accelerator' to work. If I download & install official drivers, the system still refuses to work properly. Fault code 12. What I'm doing.

    Hello

    > I can't get the 'Accelerator' to work
May I ask what you mean with Accelerator?

Normally if you take drivers on the Toshiba page everything should work properly. I can t imagine that this driver doesn't work correctly.

So as he has already written to try to reset the BIOS to default settings.
In the worst case, you must reinstall the laptop using Toshiba recovery disc.

  • Satellite L40 - 18Y: corrupt system files - how to use the recovery partition

    Greetings,

One of my friends bought the Bulgarian electronic Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18Y (PSL48E) from a major retailer and insists on the fact that it came without any CD, but the first time he installed Vista.

After that some of his other friends have uninstalled Vista and XP for unknown reasons (he says that some drivers and patches were necessary to make XP work properly, I think he might have something on LBA48 and SP1).

In any case, installing XP died, and the disk share is the file system is damaged.
After I removed it with gparted I have two disk actions now.
1st row in the table to partition: ntfs share labeled WinRE (no hidden bootable)
(He has a stash of file RavMon.exe and autorun.inf which implies that damage to the installation of XP are perhaps caused by a virus)
Second row in the partition table: empty (installation of XP was)

Third row in the table to partition: ntfs share with data

The problem is that the first partition unbootable and act like partition recovery, even when I toggle the boot flag.

It is all recovery partition and how I should go?
I read in some messages if you press '0' when the computer starts the Bios it will start automatically, but it did not work.

A manual which was available for download for this model on Toshiba Support site the key has been specified as F12. It didn't work either.

I'll be very grateful for directions, solutions or ideas.

    Hello

There is perhaps a little change to reinstall Vista with the HDD recovery procedure.
Please check if it would work.
-Turn on the laptop and press F8
-Check if there is an option called fix my computer
-If so, select it, and then choose the last option called Toshiba recovery.

But to be honest I don t see the chances it would work because you have already removed the Vista from the HARD drive.

You must have read the user manual before deleting the Vista.
The manual (Chapter 3), said that if the recovery DVDs has not been handed over with Notepad then you create the DVD using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator (is was also preinstalled). The user manual also describes the above HARD drive recovery procedure.

However, the recovery DVDs can also be ordered here:

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L40 - 18Z: warnings of Tempo that 75% of the memory has been used

    My dad recently bought a satellite L40 - 18z.

Tempo began to give warnings that 75% of the memory has been used.
When I checked there a 74 GB HDD with 3 partitions top - 1.46 GB (which I assume is the recovery partition), GB 37.26 labeled 'Vista', containing the OS and all the rest, and finally Go 35.80 labeled 'Data' which is empty.

    The partition 'Data' is necessary?

Or do I have to move all of the documents on this partition, and if so why not been put there by default?

My father is not very computer and I find it strange that the hard drive is not that way. It could very easily write the Vista partition and thought it was! And ended up paying someone to put a bigger HDD in or sorting.

It seems to be no mention of partition 'Data' in the documentation or advice on how to use it.

    > Is the partition 'Data' necessary?
Well, you can use this partition for data storage.
I mean you don t need to store files such as mp3, jpg, etc. on the system partition, but on this partition.

  • Satellite Pro L40 does not start after changing the BIOS settings

Changed some settings in the bios last night and now when I boot I get a screen black lights flash and hard drive lights up but nothing on the screen.

There is no password on the bios... How would a BIOS reset to normal?

I put a windows disc now, I hear the disc spin but nothing on the screen

(I think that I have come to the right place on the forum)

    It s a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40 model psl4be.

    Thank you

    > There was no bios password... How would a BIOS reset to normal?

You can set the default BIOS ONLY inside the BIOS access BIOS by pressing F2 or at the beginning of the initialization of the order

But I doubt that this problem is related to the BIOS.
Maybe it s just a simple bad luck that this problem happened exactly after change something in the BIOS.

Try connecting an external monitor and check if you can see something on the 2nd screen.

  • Satellite A50. No color when you switch to the tv function

How is it has no color when I'm on the TV?

    Hello

There may be more than 1 pattern:

The most common reason is that the machine displays the TV signal in NTSC format while the TV is built / set to PAL (or vice versa). Please check the videodriver to see if this setting is there.

If your using a S-video connection to the television and the need a converter to connect this cable to the TV, it is also possible that the TV itself is not fully compatible with this type of signal. It could lead to a black & white experience. It should not be the case however if the TV is new.

All this assumes that the cabling you are using are correct in all respects of course!

    Hope this helps

    BR

  • Satellite P100 - 10 p: how long should I charge the battery

    Hallo,

Today I have a new Satellite P100 - 10 p and ID like to know for how long should I charge the battery. I checked the manual and it says that I must just connect the adapter on pc and enjoy.

Can you please tell me how long should I charge a battery for the first time.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

You must charge the battery until the battery LED on the front of the laptop appears in green (or blue)!
It s advisable to run the empty battery before you resume the second indictment.

  • When should I use the IRIS PRO that came with my 8600 instead of the built-in OCR scan-to-text?

I just bought the Premium Pro 8600.  I installed the HP software, that gives me an OCR option for scanning.  I also installed the second disc, IRIS PRO, which is OCR, too.  When should I use each?

I would use the software OCR supplied with the printer during the formatting of the document to be scanned is simple and use the IRIS PRO when the formatting is more complex.  You should expect some distortion of the two programs well formatted.  Hope that helps.

  • Satellite Pro P100-327 no visual don't screen the bios startup

    Hi guys,.

I have a problem that I think has been there since I upgraded my Satellite Pro P100-327 XP to vista Business.
At the start, I have more no Visual on the screen until I see the windows logo. Computer works fine otherwise.

Now a year and a half later I want to load Windows 7 and I can't see the bios screen. F12, F2 or esc. do not help me even if the computer does not stall but I do not see on the screen. I have the latest version of the bios and the nvidia drivers as far as I know.

The only thing that I did not understand everything is the 'value added package' I think it's the small "HW" program, I downloaded the latest version and clicked on load HW in the control panel. Windows has asked if I wanted to go forward and I saw nothing else after that.

thaks a lot if anyone can help

    Brian

    Hello

For me, this looks like a problem of monitor settings but I don't know m.
You are using an external monitor or have you changed the monitoring (from simple to double mode) mode?

In your case, I could connect an external monitor and see what happens. Have you noticed the same problem on external monitor?

In the worst case, there is something wrong with the internal display, but this should be verified by a technician of the laptop.

I tried to use the ease of adding new hardware in the Control Panel, but it does not list a CD player.

I used the restoration of the system for the last available date 26 January 08, but it does not restore the CD player... and I have none, he worked at that time.
I don't think it's a faulty drive, because he is picking up power and when you insert a CD, it starts as if she was about to read the disc, but nothing appears on the screen.

The laptop belongs to a child with autism and all I can get out he is "I don't know" when asked what happened to the laptop.

    Jan

Well, usually if the CD/DVD drive doesn t appear in the BIOS or BIOS cannot recognize the ODD then chances are that the CD/DVD drive is malfunctioning.

But the best way to check this is a new installation of the OS. You should try to boot from a bootable XP CD.
If the laptop would be able to boot from the CD, then the material is ok.
