Satellite M60 164 - USB problem

I have recently introduced a new Toshiba laptop and am runing Windows XP with SP2. I'm having a problem with some USB devices powered like a USB stick or disk external hard usb. The USB key that I use is fed by another usb port, I tried one on Tosh and the other on a desktop computer. All thouhts appreceiated.
The M60 usb ports are powered? I'm missing something.

Hello

This problem can occur if you plug a USB device high power as a hard drive USB, the USB device consumes more than 500 my power.
To work around this problem, you must supply the external power USB device if it is available for the device. For example, you can use an AC adapter to power the USB device.

  • Satellite M60-164: very large external 320 GB HARD drive data Transmision

I am the proud owner of a Toshiba Satellite M60 164, however, as I am downloading my wife camcorder videos and burn them to DVD, I rapibly to run out of hard drive space. Therefore, Saturday I purchsed a new Toshiba 320 GB USB external hard drive.

After you have copied a number of videos captured on this new disc (about 20 min each for approximately 22Gb), I'm trying now copy back - one at a time - on the hard disc internal PC to burn them on DVD.

Each of the 22 GB files takes up to 200 minutes (more than 3 hours!) to transfer back from the external hard drive to PC Hd - this seems incredibly long (I'm not impressed) - anyone any idea why this might be?

Link is USB2. 1 GB of Ram on PC, 75 GB of disk space on PC internal Hd, 1.83 MHz piece, Norton Security running, if nothing else when attempting to transfer. Manual is useless, all this suggests is maybe 1 GB per dry 18 (at best) - a little difference between 396 seconds and 200 minutes (I have of course the NET would be faster!)

The clues what is the problem?

    Pete

    Hello

I guess that the Norton Security checks the files during the file transfer.
Try turning off the Antivirus and Norton Security application if you want to copy the files.
    Check it out.
The other possibility is that the drive HARD internal (5200 RPM) can't handle faster transmission of files.

    Hi mucklin terry

I checked the Satellite M60-164 information and it seems that the Bluetooth is not available on this device.
In this case, the only way to use Bluetooth technology is to use the PCMCIA Bluetooth card or the USB Bluetooth key.

can someone help me find a readers who works on Windows 7?

    PLEASE

    Hello

I completely agree with Akuma. Windows 7 supports and include clean driver CD/DVD from Microsoft. If the optical CD/DVD drive should be automatically recognized by Win7.

You see the ODD in Device Manager?
If there is a yellow exclamation point, remove the ODD of Device Manager, and then restart the device after restarting again the laptop must find new device and should recognize this.

I think I know why you get a BSOD.
You said that you have installed the Win XP SP1a.

    You must Win XP SP2!

If you wish, you can create a CD Win XP SP2 clean! How? It's very easy. You need the tool freeware nLite (google for it and how to use it).

Using the nLite application you could create a new XP CD and could include SP2 in this CD. You can then use this disk to start!

By the way; The Toshiba recovery disc can be ordered from the ASP

  • Satellite M60-132 - USB stops working until you restart

    My problem looks like this:

All USB ports die after a few minutes (time may vary, but is shortened recently) after the start. They give no error - the USB mouse stops responding, the USB drive gives stops giving "delayed write failure" or sth like that. They are all visible and OK in device (Windows XP) Manager, no problem not being reported here. They have just stop working. I tried to reinstall Windows. It is not dependent on the OS actually. For example, I can boot from a live CD of SuSe Linux and ports will also die after a few minutes - they do on any OS tested.

Now, I have discovered (GOOGLE usb ports stops working until the reboot) that several Satellite M60 users report this problem with their old cell phones. Exactly the same thing - ports die after a certain time of start and remain that way until you restart. In one case the user writes that he bought a cardbus PCMCIA USB controller and the problem continues - the ports of the controller when dying as well as embedded.

My idea is to try even when the PCMCIA - maybe it will work in my case (another chip etc - you have never know). And anothr one must try to connect a USB hub to the Firewire port available. There are USB to Firewire Converter cards - could work like that?

Anyone know any solution to my problem or have an opinion on my ideas? I am looking to buy a new laptop, which I can't really afford right now...

    Hello

To be honest I've ever read on these problems on the Satellite M60, but it can happen from time to time, because it of also a fairly old laptop.

My friend also uses a PCMCIA card that has USB ports on his old notebook. He is quite satisfied with this solution because it don t need to each time the USB ports. Just sometimes if he's copying files on USB.
These cards are cheap, you can get it for a few s Euro and you can buy this card where you want, for example Amazon.co.uk.

I never heard firewire to USB ports, which is new to me and I n t have experience with this.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M60-164 sometimes boot, sometimes not

I have what has been a fairly reliable Toshiba Satellite M60. A few weeks ago I tried to start and the power led came on the deflected light disc momentarily and the fan went. Within 2 to 3 seconds, the fan stopped, the drive light is also out. During this time the screen is never ever come at all, IE Toshiba cover page did not come to the top. The computer won't budge from that position, its almost dead.

However... If I leave and come back maybe the next day, the machine starts perfectly. Does not happen for a few days then happen. Its becomes more annoying and I would like to get the problem fixed. Anyone has any experience of this? And any help on fixing it before sending it back to Toshiba?

My problem is that my luck not knowing if I send it back to Toshiba, they don't meet this intermittent error and therefore will not be able to fix something they cannot see does not.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Neil

    Hello

This seems very odd. Looks like material would be a malfunctioning motherboard?
Who knows that it is not easy to tell without running all the tests that you know.

Have you tried to update the BIOS? Check if Toshiba has released a new version. But be careful.
Be sure to use the good BIOS and the correct procedure for updating the BIOS.

In any case, if the problem persists please contact undoubtedly service provider in your country for the control of the laptop.

    Hello Daniel

  • Wireless disconnect on Satellite M60-164

We have a M60 - 164 connected to a Netgear DG834GT wireless router. The laptop connects without a problem at startup, but will eventually lose its connection, requiring a reboot to get back online. This occurs if the connection is busy or idle.

Latest firmware is on the router, the latest drivers on the laptop and I disabled the power management to run the card wireless at full power all the time, but the problems persist.

    Someone at - it ideas?

    Update:
I thought that this problem was related to the WPA - PSK, but it turns out not to be the case - even with the unsecured network I can't keep the machine connected to the router for any decent length.

    Hello Richard

If you check the wireless card, you will find a large number of similar subjects with the same claims. Of course, there is a problem with the WiFi of INTEL 2200BG card. You can try to install the latest driver for this INTEL card and check the connection of the new.

  • Satellite M60-164 with Major hard drive problems

All started about 3 months ago. Whenever the computer is started, he would get a certain distance the BSOD do turn up and disappear immediately and the computer should restart. Yesterday, I discovered the F8 trick to make the stick BSOD around for quite some time. It turns out that the problem was an "Unmountable Boot Volume". I inserted my Windows CD and ran the repair center thingydingy and entered chkdsk/r. He said there seems to be unrecoverable problems on the hard drive.

I bought the computer 2 years ago, and I think that I only have a 1 year warranty.

    What are my options?

    Thank you

    Luke

Looks a bit like a HARD disk failure!
Have you tried to reinstall the operating system on the HARD drive?
    Check if this is possible

After the installation of the OS, you can try running a like for example the HDD Regenerator HDD repair tools.
    http://www.Gold-software.com/download7605.html

If this does not check if the replacement of HARD drive helps you solve this problem!

  • Toshiba satellite pro m30 USB problem

I have toshiba satellite pro m30 and HP scanjet 4600 scanner.when I connect the scanner directly to the notebok with its ' original usb cable there is no problem. But if I connect the scanner to the laptop with a laptop usb extension cable cannot initialize the scanner. There is no problem if I connect the scanner to the VAIO laptop with usb extension cable. What can I do?

    Hello

could you describe the difference between the original USB cable and the USB extension cable?

The laptop and the printer works correctly with the original USB cable, but it seems that the extension USB cable is an inexpensive which does not fulfill the technical specifications and the laptop has a problem with this issue.

To solve the problem in my opinion you could do an update of the BIOS, look if for your printer is a new driver available and reinstall the USB drivers.

Also, you could test whether USB, the same problem occurs with other cables.
