Satellite SP20-604: Modem problem

Hi, I have big ploblem with my satellite and its modem, I instaled Windows XP home SP2, wheen, I try to connect to the internet, the modem answers "modem port used by another device, please check the device... Manager mpla mpla..." MPLA... I try to download new drivers, but nothing of steel, I try to delete the instalation, reboot and install again but I get the same error. Please help me, give me an idea.

Hello Stratos,

SP2 includes the Microsoft Firewall. This can be configured to block incoming access, unless you have specifically authorized your ISP on an exceptional basis. Assuming that you also use an antivirus product I suggest disabling your firewall temporarily (from the center of security in Control Panel) and then trying again your dial-up. If this succeeds, then you will need details of your ISP and put them in the list of exceptions in the firewall so that they will not be blocked in the future.

  • Satellite Pro A60 modem problem

I just bought a new Pro A60 of Satellire, and although the modem composed and connected during the recording of the initial Setup, I cannot now get internet connection with it.

Everything else seems to work fine on the laptop, but on the composition of the ISP (Virgin Pay As You Go) he composed, answers, slap the connection expected and then goes to a constant tone and hang up. Looking at the log and Miss all the text of General presentation, there is a 'NO CARRIER' just before he hangs up.

I tried different modem cables and tried a different ISP, Wanadoo, with the same result.

You can actually hear that something has gone wrong as after the initial hypodermes there seems to be no response, and then the passage to the constant tone before it crashes saying to the other computer "has failed."

I also tried to reinstall the driver for the modem since the utility CD & tools but this made no difference.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Roger,

Are you connected to a telephone hotline or you go through a standard that requires a code to access (e.g. 0 or 9) to get an outside line? It may be that you insert a break in the connection manager to wait to get an outside line to connect.

Is your connection DUN provided by Virgin, or you've implemented your own DUN with the number of the Virgin?

You can try to delete your existing DUN and create a new one.

  • No satellite M30 604 no display & beeps at startup

When I turn on my Toshiba Satellite M30 604, there is no display and it is 1 long beep and 2 short beeps

I know that is not the problem of memory, because I replace it.
When I remove all memory other beeps can be heard.

    Anyone know what the beeps.

    What can I do?

I think the beep code is a graphic chip problem. My other laptop (not a Toshiba) gave the same error beep, I had to replace the motherboard.

  • Satellite M30-604 external usb hdd boot failure

    Hello world

Hard drive problems seem never to end for me.

I have a satellite M30-604. Recently my Hitachi HDD crashed. Now, I am trying to boot from an external hard drive via usb, but I can't.

    (a) I use a ViPower 3.5 "(model VP9258T) enclosure external usb 2.0"
    (b) with a Seagate 200 GB hard drive.
    (c) I used the recovery cd to install windows on the seagate
    (d) the bios (v1.4) seems to support the external device to start
    (e) the internal hdd crashed is deleted (it's internal hard drive space is empty)
    (f) the bios sees the drive and recognizes it as a USB

I think it should work, but when I turn on the computer, after a while, he says: "0201: failure IDE #0"
and gives me the options to run the program installation or start-up.
When I choose boot it gives me the window with "boot in safe mode" screen, 'last known good configuration' etc, but nothing of the work options (it restarts and gives the same again).

    Any ideas please?

    Hello

My research on this subject has led me to believe that it is not possible to boot an operating system of attached USB HDD XP. I read several posts on various usenet groups on this issue, and the consensus of opinion is that it is simply not possible.

Several suppliers of BIOS claim allow a USB HDD to be suitable for start-up purposes but I still have to attend such a machination succeed with XP.

  • Satellite M30-604 - mechanical hard drive failure

My satellite M30 604 is guaranteed (bought 10 months ago) and my Hitachi travelstar hard drive crashed unexpectedly. The accident is probably mechanical, so I can't use data recovery software (makes things worse). The only way to get my data is to give the HD a specialist who will open in a 'white room' for something like 300-600 Euros (!) and try to recover as much as possible. Now:

-> Toshiba said that if I do that, the guarantee is void and I will also have to pay for a new disk (100 euros)

-> If I want to replace the disk (warranty) then toshiba Gets the old drive and I lose my data forever!

    WAIT A MINUTE GUYS!

    (a) it's my data, my work and you CAN'T make me blackmailing you with such things 'warranty void. I want my old crushed drive back! I want to try to recover as much as I can! my 10 hour work - someday is here!

    (b) Moreover even if the heads of the drive crashed, my PERSONAL, PRIVATE data are always in the disk and CAN be read with special techniques. How toshiba (or any other company for that matter) asking me to give it to them?

    What should I do?
    What would you do?

    Hello
I sympathize with your problem and can suggest only the following reflections:

    1. the recovery of your data seems the most important factor here. I suggest you to remove the HARD drive so that it can be sent to a specialist to retrieve data are possible.

    2. Since the removal of the disc HARD not not usually involves a broad dismantling of Notepad it should not invalidate the remaining warranty (other than on the HARD drive itself).

3 replacement HARD drive can generally be obtained quite a beneficial one of internet sellers price (check using GOOGLE to a suitable replacement). You can then reinstall your OS recovery CD.

    4. I suggest investing in a bunch of backup software (such as Norton Ghost) to avoid this problem in the future. (I had four replacement hard drives on my Satellite A30 in the past 12 months).

  • Satellite M30-604 does not start after upgrading RAM

I have exactly the same problem with a Satellite M30 604! I have 2x1GB sticks and screen stays black. It works if I use one of the 1 GB sticks and one the old 256 KB stick but not the 2x1GB sticks as it should be (according to the specifications of my model manual).

Boths glue work perfectly, I tried to the sepparately.

In addition, computer does not work with the single 1x1Gb stick, mandatory I have to combine a new (1 GB) with an old (256Kb), or just stay on the two old sticks...

What can I do? PLEASE, I BEG YOU!

    Hello

Satellite M30 can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM, but you must use compatible RAM modules.
As far as I know, you can use the modules of PC2700 and PC - 2100 DDR SODIMM 200 pin.

I think that you problem is certainly linked to a not entirely compatible RAM modules

  • Re: Satellite M30 604: update BIOS to disable checking of fan/temperature

    Hi all!

    I am a (satisfied) owner of a Satellite SM30-604.

It chanced that the internal fan broke and I managed to provide enough air "fresh" with other fans of two. Let me point out very well on this point: there is no overheating problems. But no fans are now connected to the motherboard (Intel odem i855pm-333, I guess).

Then, it appens when CPU reached 70-72 ° C (this is a normal temperature for this architecture), the mobo to slow down the processor, centrino M (1600 MHz) at a frequency which, roughly speaking, one quarter (400 MHz), leaving the laptop useless.

So my point is: is there a BIOS (also unofficial, modded or what else...) which can turn off checking of the temperature/fan motherboard?

    I'll help apriciate!

    ALE

PS: my current BIOS is Phoenix v1.70. I can't find an official update.

    > So my point is: is there a BIOS (also unofficial, modded or what else...) which can turn off checking of the temperature/fan motherboard?
No, there is no such BIOS.
What you can do is change settings in Toshiba Power Saver for energy savings (I assume you are using Win XP).
So Toshiba Power Saver you can change the method of control of the CPU to fixed and processing speed of the CPU to the next level.

  • Satellite M30-604 freezes and the fan does not work after replacing

Satellite SM30-604. Laptop has left the mat from one day to the next and overheated! Fan won't spin and laptop start only occasionally. Thinking that the fan was fault I replaced the fan but even this new fan doesn't spin. The heat sink is totally clean - dust free inside the fins at all. The laptop is only 2 years.

Cooling using forced (by sticking a nozzle of aspiration to the output of the cooling fan!) the laptop starts sometimes as normal until the desktop screen with all of the usual icons and no error message. But then, it does not further - the freezing of the screen, keyboard and mouse.

Most of the time it does not start at all. When it does not start, the blue LED lights up but there is no hard disk activity or LCD at all - even the wifi LED lights even.

Really grateful if someone knows what's going on. You are not sure if it is the main processor that is defective?

    Thanks in advance.

    Charlie

    Hello, Charlie

As you know on this path is not easy to give an accurate diagnosis, but according to your assignment, I guess there is a complex problem and unit must be properly verified. I also think that there must be a problem with the electronics.

It is really possible that the motherboard needs to be replaced but, as I already said, it is not possible to say something specific about your problem. Try contacting Asp and you will see what they say.

    Good bye

  • Satellite 1410-604-BIOS update > update BIOS Incorrect in the web?

    Hi there again!

Now with a new and strange issue.

We all know that tell old... "If it does not break, don't fix it." And if you put in more computer terms, "especially if it's a BIOS.

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to manage. For some reason, we normally feel as if we manage something like nitroglycerine, or radioactive products. And it's because we all know who is put at risk at the moment: our (or sometimes other) computer, the whole system could end up as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic and son.

Well. I passed through all of this, more than 10 times in my life, and only once, it went wrong. But since this old motherboard was already dead, it was not important. But I've always been EXTREMELY care. Allways cross checked everything before you do anything, allways has a backup and a way to allways and restore that backup... I did COMPAQ systems, which have been prepared in this way. A BIOS update was about about a disc, turn on the PC with the disk in the floppy drive and wait. And if you don't like the results, you just click on 'back to a previus BIOS' and that was it... very nice. And easy.

A few days ago a friend gave me a Toshiba Satellite 1410 604 to solve some problems that have been her crazy. After you remove a Norton Internet Security has expired, install avast and scan, I found more than a hundred of files infected with a variety of viruses, malware, trojans, and everything you could imagine. Avast all removed, but the rest of the operating system was so unstable that we decide to format it and install from scratch.

I asked for the restore disks, which obviously it failed because they were lost in one of his trips. After that we had confirmation of Toshiba representatives there is no disk recovery available for this model, because it is too old, we decided to install from scratch like any other normal PC and resigned to losing some of the utilities accompanying that CD and are not available for download on the Web site.

I downloaded all the software available for this model, including two updates to the BIOS. (In reality an update, but in two versions: Windows and traditional) and prepared a CD with all the drivers and programs as if it were a new system installation. And everything was fine, no problems at all. Until we arrived at the wireless LAN card, but that's another problem is already solved (the mini PCI card for the WLAN does not support the encriptación WEP or WAP, and it is not possible to connect to any LAN encripted wireless).

At this point, and when I started setting up and activation of peripheral PCMCIA and USB devices (this computer only supports USB 1.1, 2.0 not) I discovered this text from Toshiba Web site:

"This Bios update adds functionality to your system.
(BIOS stands for Basic Input and Output System. This program is stored in a chip memory dead on the motherboard.
When the computer comes on, the BIOS is launched to perform various functions to start.)

For more detailed updated information, please refer to Information update BIOS Toshiba"

    (you can find it here):

[http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU], you need to search for:

    Satellite 1410 604

    Quite specific. Isn't?)

According to the information in this Web site, the available BIOS fits the following models:

    "Satellite 2410 414, Satellite 1410, Satellite 1410 - 654S, Satellite 1410 814, Satellite 2410-303, Satellite 2410-304 s, Satellite 1410 354, 2410-601 Satellite, Satellite 1410-401, {color: #ff0000} * Satellite 1410 604 * {color}, Satellite 2410-404, Satellite 1410-301, Satellite 1410-304, Satellite 2410 S403, Satellite Pro 2100, Satellite 1410 S203, Satellite 2410-304, Satellite 1410 554, Satellite 1410 S102, Satellite 1410 - 354F, Satellite 2410 703, Satellite 1410-303, Satellite 2410 - S203, Satellite 1410-801, Satellite 2410 603, Satellite 1410-902. Yes... it's here!

Now when you go into the "Toshiba BIOS update information", you get:

    "Ref. FAQ: TRO0000000b07.

A BIOS update is a {color: #ff0000} * operation is relatively simple and can be done by computer more competent users * {color}. All BIOS updates can be obtained from "BIOS update" Section download click here...

Note: the BIOS files are specific machine the correct BIOS for your machine should be used. »

Please note that Toshiba does not disencourage BIOS manipulation, on the contrary: they even encourage people to do. It is not badly needed, but at the same time that they encourage people to 'play' with such a delicate question, at the end of this page, in small letters, they say:

"Toshiba provides this information"as is"{color: #ff0000} * without warranty of any kind * {color}, explicit or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of quality market or adequacy has a specific use." Toshiba shall not be liable to the topicality, accuracy, completeness or quality of the information provided. {color: #ff0000} * Toshiba is not responsible for damage caused by the use of any information provided, including incomplete or incorrect information * {color}. »

This should trigger yellow alarms in our minds.

+ "Human error is inherent in man, and it is not possible to eradicate. It will be displayed always, sooner or later"(Prof. James Reason). +

And finally, I made the mistake. Although I have read this warning, I remembered all these successful BIOS update with COMPAQ and relied for Toshiba. This update was available there, and Toshiba told me that it was for this computer. Great!

So finally, I disconnected all devices (USB), removed the PCMCIA (WLAN), plugged the battery charger to avoid any possible battery problem, restarted windows, and then Windows started the update (windows version, such as recommended by Toshiba). This drug looked very nice, nothing different from what I usually see on these old COMPAQs.

As reported by the update program, the system would restart. And in fact he did.

Windows normally closed (a little faster than normal, but without mistakes, and since there is no other programs that most - even the antivirus not working - no), the computer turned off, all lights (normal) offshore, and then again on...

    {color: #0000ff} * BEEEEEEEEEEEEP... BEEEP... ... BEEEEP * {color}

OMG! I never movement something SO bad. 3-1-1!

And now... What a 3-1-1 is here? Award BIOS would mean no card graphics or video deffective card, but it is not true, because it worked 20 seconds ago. There are BIOS.

He never came again to life. He's still 3-1-1 beep.

But now comes the investigation on the human factors involved in this accident.

I found I committed the following errors:

    * (1) * rely in the constructor, even if they have WRITTEN their information may be incorrect or incomplete. (BAD if I was a detective QA & QC).

    * (2) * I cross checked deep enough (until it was already too late).

    * (3) * I haven't looked above for how to make a backup of the BIOS to restore must anything deceive you.

    * (4) * let Toshiba lead me to a path that I didn't walk, just because of their supply of 'increased functionality.

    * (5) * Beleave in Toshiba when they said "relatively simple operation and can be performed by the most competent computer users"... they never said it is infallible. "."

Then I began the most interesting part of the investigation.

    {color: #0000ff} * "what went wrong?" * {color}

Obviously, the update of the BIOS has not somewhere, somewhere. And I wanted to know what and where.

First thing, I discovered that there is another Toshiba search engine called "askiris" ([http://askiris.toshiba.com]) and I looked to see if, for any chance I could get the old BIOS 1.20 version which was installed at the origin of this machine.

And I found something... VERY interesting:

    GOOD! Or not?

    Let's take a look:

First thing I did was download all four files.

Then I took the same version that made the accident: 1.40

I unzipped the file, which I found:

    * {color: #ff0000} they have two 20 files and 1 046 461 bytes. I asumed that they are the SAME two folder {color} *.

And the readme file does not list the model 1410-604 in its readme file, so I can't explain it except as a Toshiba error. * {color: #ff0000} they put an incorrect BIOS on their website and has proposed updating and somehow lead to such mistakes. {color} *.

(Except in the case that one of these models is a name that is different from the model 1410-604, and if that's the case... now I don't know why this BIOS do not work with this computer).

The worst thing is that neither the other files (V1.10, 1.20 and 1.30) lists the 1410-604, apparently so no solution possible workaround for this problem. I need an original v1.20 to the CMOS, and Toshiba seems to have. They offered me to solve the problem, leaving the laptop to an ASP, and pay only € 95 for the work and about € 280 for a motherboard replacement, I will get it resolved. But they offer no guarantees of their possibilities because is a model "too old" and "abandoned" and "unsupported"...

In other words, they said 'you don't have to bother with it, just go and buy a new' (something of quite out of my reach in this time of crisis): P

    Thanks for reading so far.

Now, what I need is to get ideas on a work around for this, my ideas are:

    (1) the CMOS has some startup that works (it allows a roll-back if you have the appropriate file). So I need a good BIOS to burn in the CMOS memory, the SAME SAME model (a backup BIOS) but the backup should be sufficient for the burning program (CHGBIOSA.COM).

    (2) it is always possible that the BIOS might be OK, but the CMOS data has been corrupted somehow. If so, the CMOS of compensation could solve problem. But I wasn't able to find a clear cmos from the outside button, and after disasembling I took battery, with no good result. I try to leave the MOBO without battery for a period more long (I left it about 20 seconds) just in case where 20 seconds are not all capacitors for well pass zero values. I don't have a lot of hope in this point.

    (3) try to get a REAL good update from Toshiba. I contacted technical support several times, and I was able to verify that they are only - phone operators, with a script in front of them, and when the problem is going - out of reach, they fall in the same response: "you must go to an ASP. I still have a faint hope to find someone who really knows a little and could illuminate with a good BIOS in this disc.

    (4) as far as I could find, this BIOS is not any BIOS-manufacturer known. It seems that it has been developed by Toshiba (own brand), so the Phoenix crisis recovery disk won't be of any help here. As well as any other BIOS recovery tool not designed for Toshiba BIOS. But I'm open to all ideas, which could be put to the test more or less safely. (Remember that the 'BIOS-BOOT-PART' feature still works, I don't want to lose that possibility alone of redemption).

Wwwaaaaoooowww... what a falks long post! Sorry about that!

Forgive me, but I wanted to be really clear.

Someone give some tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Please don't say that I shouldn't be doing... I already know that. I already did some research and found my mistakes, not to repeat them. Now, I need to spend, to move and to try to solve this problem, or at least learn to solve similar things. As much as possible.

Thank you once again, in advance, and sorry again.

Modified subject to beter reflect what the problem is (apparently erroneous file BIOS in Toshiba Download Center).

    Hi Fenix,

Wow... He tooked a lot of time to read your post...

    Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the website is the right one. If you have downloaded the right version of the Bios.

Toshiba America, which has most of the time the Askiris you used isn't accurate models for Toshiba Europe.
This should be the reason, why does not the readme file contain the European model.

I'll try to do an update of the fresh Bios using the update of the traditional Bios.

Copy the files on the disk, put it in the floppy drive, press and hold power on the notebook tab.
After that the laptop is off, press on and hold the key on the left side of space power on the laptop new bar and wait until it turns off again.

If your laptop does not power perhaps the most, the RAM is default?

Therefore, if the use of the traditional Bios or change memory doesn't help, and your laptop is still dead you should go to a SPA, but it will cost money.

I now have my fourth Toshiba laptop and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before you go to a SPA, I'd buy a new ;)

    Best regards

    Maurice

  • Satellite 1410-604 - get wirless to work

Hey there, I seem to have a problem with my Satellite 1410 604, I got the Briefcase "Toshiba WirelessLanDriver" of the cd as he said it, I followed the instructions, but yet he says that the .msi file is that contains no information about the pilot for some reason I can't get my wireless to work on this pc.

Any suggestions on how I do it?

As far as I know, this is an old series and I could not find any help on a toshiba Web page. so now im going to try out this forum and see if anyone has a suggestions...

    Kind regards.

    Klattrup

    Hello

As far as I know the Satellite 1410 604 was equipped with WiFi, but it's optional.
So maybe your portable computer does not support the wireless network adapter and the WiFi network is not integrated.

Please check first of all in Device Manager if there is a yellow exclamation mark under network adapters, or if the WiFi card is recognized.

If this isn't the case, then this would mean that the WLan card is not in.

  • Satellite M30-604: USB Port can not find the driver

    Hello

I keep having the same problem on my Satellite M30 604 when connecting to a USB device.
It does not really matter with this kind of device, the problem still.

Whenever I have insert the USB plug into one of the slots, my home XP keeps popping up the wizzard software.
Even with devices without drivers such as USB keys, it keeps bothering me and finally tells me that it cannot find the right driver.

If I try to install a printer, it installs the software found, but finally stops the operation because it can't find the driver (?). I don't know in what direction I should look at to solve this.

So if anyone can help me on this, I would be very grateful!
    Edwin

    Hello, Edwin

It's very strange because it is not necessary to install a USB driver and standard Microsoft USB driver should work well. I put t know if this can help, but please check this page

This fix is also part of the factory settings (recovery image on the delivered CD). By the way: your device is about three years old and it will be interesting to know since when you have this problem. Just for example: I have more Satellite 1900 with USB 1.0 and use USB keys and drive external HARD without any problem.

  • Satellite 1410-604: I lost the screen saver and power management system

I have a Satellite 1410-604. I lost my screensaver and cannot access the Toshiba power management system: I click and nothing happens. I saw a suggestion to run the system restore. When I go to system restore it says it is running, but is there something more specific that I can do?

    Thank you!

I put t know what you did with your operating system, but more often if the system restore option enabled, then it shouldn't be a problem to restore the operating system to the beginning
Simply, start the system restore and choose the starting point that was automatically created.

  • Satellite M30-604: unable to connect to the WLan

    Hi all

I have some problems with my toshiba SM30-604

First of all, I find the product in the section support somehow, even I can't find it by giving the serial number! ???
    Even with the program auto-detection!

The other big problem is with the wireless card.
Since the first time I bought the laptop when I tried to connect with some internet wirless networks I had problems with certain types of escryption of these networks.

If the network is an escryption
    WPA,
    WPA 2,.
    WPA - PSK
    WPA2-PSK
I can not connect to this network and he brings a message, something like "the network may not be available at this time" Although it is.

Even if has a WEP encryption and password isn't a 10-digit is brings a message like "the neck should be 40 bits or 104 bits and 5 or 13 ASCII characters and 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

The last days I can not connect to any wireless network for the above reasons.
I know that its an old pc, but it is very good even for today an I still use it even I have other laptops

    Please can someone help me?
Will there be some updates for my card toshiba wireless?
I downloaded the automatic detection tool, but it does not recognize my pc model

Under my pc has this data:

    SM30-604
    model No. PSM30E-0SY2K-GK

the wireless card must be the:
    Intel (r) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter

    I'm desperate this problem.

The portable M30-604 PSM30E-0SY2K-GK is an old classic. Right?
Well, Toshiba driver European page you will find three categories: Archive, book and Options.
If you don't find this portable model of laptop in the computer category then I would say that the next step should be archiving. Right? To me, it seems plausible to check the area archives due to the age of the laptop.

In addition, the books are sorted by serial number; means that you won't find satellite M30 604 but Satellite M30 PSM30E.

To my knowledge the Intel (r) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 supports only 802.11 B Wlan standard and only the key WEP, WPA, encryption (AES +).
    FTP://download.Intel.com/support/wireless/WLAN/SB/intelprowireless2100mpci_prodbrief.PDF

This means that if the WiFi network is not set to 802.11 B and if the WiFi network has been set to WPA2 encryption, so you won't be able to connect to this network.
