  I can't say for sure, but if two laptop computers supports the same screen size then you have a good chance to get the screen M40 working with L30 Series notebook.
  But if you want to be 100% sure, then I'd take a screen which has been published for the L30 series.

  Monitior should work fine with XP and Windows 7 (all 3 of my friends do).

  (1) check if your monitor has a function/button "detect / Auto setting.

  (2) verify that the graphics display card for appropriate settings (resolution and frequency).

  I have connected my Pavillion A620N with a VIA / video card SG3 Chrome IGP to an old Sony VGA Plug and Play monitor.  At startup, the office fills the screen with very large print/icons.  When you increase the resolution, I get a shrunken screen about 2 inches of black on each side.  I have updated Windows XP and all the drivers, but the problem persists.  Interestingly, the monitor works fine with other computers.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

  Found the Solution!  Thanks for your help.  I came across the solution accidentally.  I increased from 60 to 75 Hz refresh rate and the problem resolved.

  My laptop screen is 15 inches and resolution 1024 x 768. He worked always good. Until I installed Windows XP SRV 2 once again. Now, the screen only works with 969 x 768 pixels.   Can you please check under display properties > settings > advanced > monitor, is there possibility to activate the option Hide modes that this monitor cannot display.

  If you want, save your data and reinstall OS with recovery CD. Check if your monitor is working properly and there is black band again.
