  Which is really strange, especially after the installation of recovery image.

  Have you checked the Device Manager? Some unknown device listed here? I can't believe that this modem can go for no reason.

  Have you tried to reinstall the modem driver? I checked the Web from Toshiba site and I can find a driver of modem for Windows 7:

  To set up a fax server

  1. Before you begin, make sure that your computer is connected to the network and you know the network address of the fax server (for example, \\mycompanyfaxserver).

  2. Click the button start , click programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

  3. To use the fax mode, click fax at the bottom of the left pane.

  4. Click the Tools menu and then click Fax accounts.

  5. Click Add, and then, in the Fax Configuration Wizard, click on connect to a fax on my network server and follow the instructions.

  Check the following settings:
  In Windows Fax & scan settings, open tools/Fax and under the general tab.
  Look at the 'Fax select device".
  Your modem is listed here?
  You have the, "allowed to send and/or receive" selected?

  This setting should be checked and selected until all accounts are created.

  Why Apple Drop Fax Modem Support with Sierra? Now, I have to spend money on a fax or e - Fax machine. Yechh.

  It has fax modem support since Apple stopped including a port modem/phone on computers. You can always try using a USB modem for faxing.

Control Panel says Microsoft fax in the queue of root "works properly."  So changed original FXST30.dll, apparently to fix this 8.1 do not recognize the external modem. This does not solve the problem of detection. So the question is now: HP Pavilion 17 still has a built-in fax modem? And if so, why not Win Fax & scanning not detect.

  When my WinXPPro SP3 machine is in sleep/standby/suspend mode (S1 or S3), the fax modem wakes the machine some of the time, but not all the time.  I want to wake up the PC everytime, with 100% reliability.  (When the PC is on, the modem and the machine to receive faxes beautifully.)

  Download the software complete features driver from the manufacturer's website.  It contains the fax driver.

  You cannot send and receive regular faxes thought there Internet.

  Fax it uses own protocol that needs a real modem and the connection to the classic telephone line.

  It is important to do it through the computer, you must install a Fax Modem on the computer and connect a regular telephone land line on it.

  Alternatively, you can get all-in-one (AIO) printer/copy/fax, which is compatible with Win 7 and network ready , then check with the computer via the network.

  The IOA will have a regular phone land line too.
