Slow Mac

Hello, so I would first start by saying that I am no computer or the apple guru, I am aware of the basic information of base etc, but nothing close to tip at all.

I'm running on a:

iMac (27-inch, mid 2010)

Processor: 3.2 GHz Inel Core i3

Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Boot disk: Macintosh HD

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB

I used to play a LOT of downloadable games online and spent a lot of time on the game forums and work of moderator for some of them.

Now, I use my Mac for the research I am now doing some GCSE and have more time for games

I started noticing that the mac is pretty slow, it has so many applications and files, screenshots, documents and downloads, I managed to sort downloads and put them in the trash can manually but it has not seemed to have made any difference at all. Im not sure how many RAM I have used or something like that. I have apps like MacKeeper etc. And realized that I should probably delete after reading through the community here, so I simply drag the application to the trash and deleted from the Recycle Bin? Is this all I need to do?

Some tips on how I can speed up my Mac?

Or simple checks to be performed that will tell me if there are problems?

-Many thanks,

OB

Avoid using third-party cleaning software. This software does more harm than good. You don't need it. All computers become slower over time even in normal conditions of use. Experienced users erasing the hard drive and do a clean install from scratch, from time to time; or every time that the installation of a major update of the OS. Do means if you must maintain regular and several backups.

Add more RAM or reduce the number of simultaneously executed from applications and utilities. Delete unnecessary anti-malware software and any software that promises to clean your Mac. Look for the runaway process: Runaway applications can shorten the battery life, affect performance and increase the heat and fan activity. Also, visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the treatment with The Spinning Beach Ball of Death.

    The ultimate solution

Back up everything, wipe the drive, reinstall OS X and restore your data from backup. Reinstall the third-party software of original/zero media.

  • I'm on a macbook pro, and without knowing it, I turned to the vault of fire during a software update. The encryption process has begun. If I can't decipher, which will make my slow mac? or encryption is slow mac anyway?

    Hello

I'm on macbook pro 13-inch (mid-2012), and without knowing it, I turned on the Arch of fire during a software update (El Capitan 10.11.5). The encryption process has started and if I don't want to read more, which will make my slow mac? or encryption is slow mac anyway?

or at the end of the encryption process, my mac is slow?

    waiting for a quick response.

    Thank you

    Prosunkanti Sengupta

I have a MacBook Air with active FileVault 2012. There is no significant difference in performance. Note, however, that there will be a performance impact until the original encryption is complete and that it doesn't have a way to stop it.

  • Really slow Mac Mini on the first commissioning

I bought my Mac Mini because the old PC had an age to start up. Now, my Mac Mini is even worse. I also have an old portable (2010) I installed Windows 10 on, and it is much faster than my Mac! W10 is up and running on browser/email before Mac even gets to the user login page!

Advice on other posts, I ran EtreCheck and updated a printer with the HP software problem. Got sorted and it really helped. But its just as bad party, ran EtreCheck again, the results below, but while the Mac was still loading up, it's done intentionally to see if I can find what it keeps. There is nothing obvious in this, can we see something that miss me it please.

(Aware there are other posts like this but saw someone do an admonition to add their isses at the same post accusing them of 'thread-jacking')

I suggest you remove the Avast software according to the instructions of developers. You need anti-virus software on your Mac and often through other reports Avast here seems regarded as a cause of potential problems.

If you do remove it, restart the Mac and the test. If it makes any difference once Avast is removed, you can always reinstall it if you feel that you need (even if you haven't).

  • Still slow Mac after installation of 16 GB of RAM

    Hello

My MacBook Pro has been slow, taking a lot of time to do simple tasks and constantly showing the spiral of spinning. I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM, 16 GB. He has certainly made a difference, but still shows the spiral occasionally for simple tasks. I'm afraid that when I finally run several tasks at once (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, for example), he won't face.

I have an audit of the being - y at - it something else I could do?

    Your help is highly appreciated

    Dear Florence,

    EtreCheck version: 2.6.6 (226)

    Report generated the 16:48 09/04/2016

This report Etrecheck was performed in April and so is little help for you or us eiterh today. There was also performed with an older version of CBS and not all useful information, display the current versions.

Please download the latest version of CBS on its official website: http://etrecheck.com/ . Then again and post a new report of the CE. In this way, you won't get unworkable advice of a person who fails to see that the report is badly outdated.

  • End of 2012 very slow Mac. Etrecheck joint

I have a Mac to end 2012, El Capitan, which has been gradually running slower and slower.  It seems preferable, once he is fully initialized, but it takes that which feels like an age to actually start, and if I try to open applications such as Mail, Safari. Finder etc., I sometimes get the beachball for several minutes.  I ran a couple of Etrechecks for beachballing and the other for the computer is too slow.  The disk information section seems worrying, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at in the Etrecheck, so some constructive advice would be welcome.

Thank you very much in anticipation.

    Fred

If you do not have a backup, copy both of your documents on a external drive NOW.

Then go to an authorized Apple store or repair shop and have the hard drive replaced.

If possible, take the opportunity to replace the old hard drive with an SSD. You will be amazed at your 'new' machine. It's like night and day.

  • Slow Mac - EtreCheck does not validate

My Mac worked very slow as of late and I use EtreCheck to try to identify any problems. He discovered a few Adware on my machine but I was unable to delete due to an EtreCheck error.

I do not have a firewall, so I don't know why it does not work. I would really like to see how things go after I was clean the adware.

Also uninstall the antivirus software. There are no viruses that can attack Mac.OS X. For example, anti-virus programs are selling a cure for a disease that does not exist. And they are known for the Mac was systems. Look for an uninstall program or visit their website for the instructions to uninstall.

Not sure on the message, try to boot intoSafe Mode and see if it works in Mode without failure.

  • running slow mac - cleanmymac and/or new battery?

My macbook (13-inch late 2009 model) works well, but is running slow. I am considering buying Cleanmymac 3 - but it made a difference? I used the demo version that has identified about 110 GB, which could be authorised only if I got the full Cleanmymac3. I have to add... the battery did 470 cycles! Would it better to replace the battery or get Cleanmymac performance? I'm not very irritable so don't really understand the impact of one. Ideally I get a new mac but will try and keep this one spends more time if possible! Thank you

  • Slow Mac = Virus? (Strange behavior OSX)

    Hi all

Not long I've updated Lion at El Capitan.

To be honest, the only good thing about El Capitan is the battery life.

El Capitan seems to flow from my memory and performs more slowly.

    My specs:

MacBook Pro 2011 end 13 inches

    Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz

    16 GB RAM DDR3

Recently I have experienced the following:

The overall performance is terrible, the OSX becomes very lag.

RAM gets chewed without valid reason (I run "sync" and then "purge", however, "purge" takes time to clear the cache and it does not help in the long term)

In "vm_stat", I get a lot of high values for the "errors of translation.

When I restart the Mac, it takes forever to restart (with Lion, it can be much faster)

Apps to not start unexpectedly, example like "AppCleaner" (I click on the app, it flashes and nothing happens)

This lead me to think that I could have some kind of virus.

I run several system scans using "ClamXav", "Kaspersky" and "Malwarebytes" <-same Malwarebytes stopped opening after a scan.

In any case, none of them found anything it, tried to search the Web and run the command "find" to search the KeRanger services and could not find.

Looked in "Activity Monitor" and could not see something fishy to me. Expected to see perhaps the network activity as a sign for some backdoor.

I'm a little desperate looking for something that I don't know who could be at the root of all this.

Throughout my research, I found a strange file, I don't know what it is.

    / dev/fd/155/Single Sign-On\prerequisites\VMware-python.msi/product.cab/wininst_9.0.exe

Could be a virus? I know this may sound a little silly, but I'm naïve to detect the cause of the strange behaviour of my Mac.

    Any help would be appreciated.

NOTE: I have a vCenter Server installed on a computer via VMware Fusion virtual, however, the SSO service is installed on a virtual machine that resides on a physical ESXi server.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Joseph

at the moment no virus Windows cannot affect mac OS X, except if you start it in windows or virtualize and then only it can affect parts of the window of your OS not your components of Mac OS.

The slowness of the system can usually be traced back any anti-virus Mac. Although it does not exclude the other 3rd party applications or hardware problems.

At the moment there is no knowledge 'in the wild' viruses for mac reported by laboratories of titles in the world.

My advice is to remove AV applications on your mac (no Windows!), as well as any other utility left 3rd that you may need to clean, maintain or snitch on your mac, like the so-called also cause problem, no solutions.

If the problem persists please post a log of your system using etrecheck

    https://etrecheck.com

which is used here to examine this type of incident and the number of positions using this software to identify a problem and a solution is extremely positive if you want to look into this for your own peace of mind. In fact I encourage to see for yourself.

Once that is posted a number of volunteers can give an overview about the cause of your particular problem if the suggestions above do not offer a solution.

  • Slow Mac Pro after that reset complete and SSD upgrade

    Hi all

A few weeks ago, my Mac (mid-2012) began to slow down, finally I tok inside the store for some advice. The guy told me to run check disk, repair disk etc, I did, but it did not help. I then decided to collect the files that I wanted to keep and reset my mac, still no better. Then I tried to upgrade to El Capitan, which made things worse. After hours of fiddling and waiting I finally ended up back with somehow Mountain Lion.

I went back to the store where he then said that my hard drive has failed and we must replace, so I've upgraded to a GB Samsung SSD 850 250 evo. This is a slight improvement that I managed to get to El Capitan on it now. However, the startup time is about 7-8 minutes and any task takes a ridiculous time amount, I get the Rainbow wheel very often - even though at this point, I have no software installed except that downloaded as a basis (other than Spotify) nor do I have all the files on my hard drive either - once again, other than those that come by default. I would say that the performance has not improved the outcome of this change of hard disk.

I'm pretty stuck now, my CPU usage seems to go up in the pics, but there is no indication as to what is causing these spikes. I disabled the spotlight, but that did not help either.

    Help please?

Run this test and post the results here.

  • Extremely slow Mac (randomly), memory full, fine CPU

Am trouble solving what is wrong, but Mac running super slow (sometimes free of charge for a minute or two).  Upgrade to El Capitan - didn't help or hurt.  Reset the PRAM and SMC.  Free space on hard drive (23% free).  Disc/Onyx utility run and no problem (except for the permissions).  Look at the activity monitor and do not think it is CPU.  memory but was not always - higher use Kernal_task (450MB).  Using the drive show up sometimes (but not sure connected to issue).  Indexing off the coast.  Created a new account to log on; the same problem.   All the troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Having no more info on your part, your symptoms sound like problems due to unnecessary third-pary software. The following actions apply to your computer? :

    (1) you run anti-virus/internet security applications?

    (2) you are running applications "cleaning/tune-up/optimization?

    (3) all-to-peer or torrent software download?

    (4) any third-party disk backup software which came bundled with an external hard drive?

    (5) any system other than iCloud (Carbonite Online backup; GoogleDrive; A MS Reader)?

    (6) not at your financial institution you request to install Trusteer EndPoint Protection (also known as the Trusteer report)?

In the early period OSX, Onyx has been a useful tool with some of its functions, but others might cause problems if misapplied. Today, Mac OSX takes good care of herself and does things like Onyx. I don't think I need since the upgrade to OS 10.4.

Look at the activity monitor and do not think it is CPU.

Look at the activity monitor won't help unles you have properly defined ' view' menu. You must set the display to "All processes" or you can miss some very nasty process behaves badly.

If you are unsure of what is installed, please download and install this free utility:

    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

It is safe and written by one of our most valuable members, allowing users to view the details of the configuration of the computer in Apple Support communities without revealing sensitive personal data.

Run the program and click the button 'Copy the report to the Clipboard' when displaying results. Then come back here and paste the report into a response to your original post. It can often show if all harmful files/programs drag down your performance.

  • Super slow Mac with spiral spinning, please help

My MacBook Pro runs very slow for some time now. I have removed many files on my external hard drive and that what I need there. Most of the tasks take longer that it should and I see the spiral turning almost at every click. Help, please!

I did the check of the being, but I'm not very tech savvy so have no idea what to do with the news. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Considering the number of items 'dead' lack of RAM, more RAM will help your situation.  A MBP 2012 will support up to 16 GB of RAM and the best sources of RAM compatible Macs are OWC and Crucial.

LAUGH the CleanMtMac3 Mac.  You MBP didn't need, it can damage your Mac and can be a cause contributing to the slow operation.  Use the instructions to uninstall developers:
