Snapshots of NSX - v controller

HI - has anyone successfully taken and checked snapshots of the controller under the NSX - v 6.1?

I have tried to do this for each controller via the REST API as well as the button 'download instant controller' in the Web Client interface and I see the same "controller id" and the values "controller id" for each of my pictures when I take a look in the files.

The IP address and the ID in each is always the first controller that I rather than 2.3 etc respectively. It seems to me that if the snapshot function is just taken snapshots the first controller little matter what is entered and backups to capture instant 3 think I look the same.

I do not have a 6.0.x environment to test this in right now so not sure if the behavior was under that. Instant non-critical scenario here but just curious to know whether or not someone knows if it is currently running.

Thank you

Update: I received information that is expected to see the same info in snapshots uploaded from different controllers, since it is a snapshot of a "bunch of controller", who shares the same information on all controllers.

  • Will be communicating with VTEP and NSX flow controller (for example the NAV VTEP) network vmkernel management?

    Hello

I have question concerning communication with the controller VTEP and NSX.

Will be communicating with workflows VTEP and controller within the network vmkernel management NSX?

Alternatively, it empties the VTEP network? (Network VXLAN?)

I think it is by the vmkernel management network, as ESXi host with controller NSX need not always have

    VTEP (or Logical switches) segment.

I thought that it could flow within the segment of NSX controller if it is independent of the normal (communication of host of ESXi and vCenter)

management vmkernel, but I think that there are restrictions which network of the controller must be in the same segment of layer 2.

I tried to find some document but nothing of any document clearly states what network port group transmits VTEP and NSX flow controller.

I'll be very happy if the experts give me answer.

As far as I know: you're right - this traffic is via the host management network and a connection routed between controllers it is not currently supported with NSX - v.

  • 6.1.2 NSX - v > controller issues > not enough space

After the judgment of any infrastructure for the maintenance of the equipment, it seems that the only thing that will not come online are the controllers of the NSX. The power, but after some CLI research and troubleshooting, all my controllers are "out of disk space. I tried the clear commands (less orders that wipe configurations) but output shows that delete commands are not able to remove non-essential files because there is not enough to place. I published 'show status' and I get a 0% for available disk space. Thoughts?

    Update:

Fortunately, one of my controllers was still in a State of good "joined". Finally, I fixed my problem by deleting my other two controllers and their redeployment. I noticed that when the deployment of a controller to one or two hosts, he continued showing that I don't have a cluster to join to the. So I transferred two other controllers to a single ESXi Host which was not giving the error. My problem is now solved and my controllers are all watch 'connected '.

Note, the original controllers that have been posted as disconnected, after diagnosis, I noticed that when the virtual appliance restart (controllers), an error message showed [host SMBus controller not activated] during the starting process of the virtual appliance of the controller. After issuing the command [view status], I could see that the system partitions (mount points) were not present. After redeploying the controllers a second time, everything seemed to work.

to clarify, I transferred the cluster 3 times. My original problem was to power the NSX, the controllers for a reason infrastructure any ran out of disk space and could not start properly. After the reconstruction controllers, I ran into issues with the controllers SMBus host does not, leading virtual disks to not be charged (where mount does not point towards the top... Since the virtual machine couldn't connect to them). After a 2nd reploy, I came across the 'no cluster to join' error, which has been resolved with redeploy controllers on a good host. Now that my controllers are all deployed and synchronized between them, I am able to vMotion controllers on all hosts.

  • NSX Manager & controller of NSX

vNiC NSX Manager and controller of NSX is attached to which Port groups.

They are VMkernel Port management groups or groups of virtual computer ports.

We might be confusing terminology - it's the VMkernel adapters created locally on each host (not the portgroup). Anyway let's move on as you suggest.

Yes, it is possible to use the same portgroup to the controller of the NSX or other VM vNIC according to the HOL management staff.

  • With the help of a snapshot on a domain controller

    Hi Experts

I recently installed Microsoft updates on my domain controller, but now it does not start up correctly even with the last good known it just sits for hours with a blue login screen but it never really ends logon.

Before I did the update I took a snapshot of the server, I would go back to the snapshot server, I him, y at - it implications while returning from a domain controller to a snapshot?

I found conflicting information on this subject?

    Thanks, 1 million.

    Clint

Snapshots for Windows domain controllers prior to the 2012 version are definitely a no-go. With the 2012 version MS adding feature to detect this. However, I myself, have not yet tried...

In case it's the only ms in your area, it may (no guarantees) work it back to the snapshot. With the other domain controllers in the domain of the way forward would be either a fresh install / promotion or using an AD of an another DC backup and restore it on the domain controller after that go back to the snapshot and start immediately to restored AD mode.

  • Best way to integrate a snapshot of long-term in a Win2k3 domain controller

    Hi all

It seems that one of our virtual domain controllers works as a snapshot since November 2009. I wonder how better is there to take to solve this.

First of all, a few details:

-We miss ESX3.5 U4 in a cluster of Server-3 (business license)

-The "instant DC" is a Win2k3 Standard 32-bit machine

-We have 1 other virtual DC on the network (also hosted in the cluster), and 1 physical DC/Exchange server

-Roles FSMO transferred yesterday from "SnapShot DC" to another virtual domain controller

-DC 'Snapshot' is our DHCP, the primary DNS (physical DC/trading machine is our auxiliary DNS server) and file server / printing, as well as a catalog server Global (are therefore 2 other domain controllers)

-"SnapShot DC" was P2V would last summer. The person who made the conversion did not take into account any special considerations for P2Ving a controller of domain, so we found ourselves in a State of a USN restoration that we had to get Microsoft to resolve in February of this year

I've attached a screen-cap of the folder of the server data store.

Can you recommend the best way to solve this problem?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Wait until after hours, or maybe even a weekend and remove the snapshot on this domain controller.

    Good luck!

  • NSX data flow

I have a few questions about this diagram that I hope someone can answer.

When the controllers communicate with ESXi hosts is the vmk0 (Mgmt) interface or interface vmkX (VTEP) on the hosts?

Guess it is the vmk0 interface (Mgmt) and if this is the case is I ANY communication between the vmkX interface (VTEP) control plane on host computers and components of the NSX (Manager, controller, edge etc.)?

In addition it is VTEP only VTEP communication for the data plan?

The flow of communication is between the officers on the ESXi hypervisor to/from the controllers and the Manager via the management interface.

    This document details the agents:

This KB details the ports requirements for NSX:

VTEPs communicate with the other VTEPs.  The concept of the plane of data includes more than just the VTEPs.  The design guide offers more detail on this topic as well.

    Hello.

I'll set up a laboratory at home to build a laboratory to the NSX. I am running 3 on VMware Workstation 11 Esxi hosts. All three hosts of esxi run each 4 Ethernet adapters on them.

To configure installation VXlan for my lab at home, I have modified the virtual machine's .vmx file and changed the vmxnet3 device and it works.

    Ethernet1. ConnectionType = "custom".

    Ethernet1.virtualDev = "e1000".

    Ethernet1.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".

    Ethernet1. AddressType = 'generated '.

    ethernet2.VNET = "VMnet1.

    ethernet2. ConnectionType = "custom".

    ethernet2.virtualDev = "vmxnet3" - change to vmxnet3

Adapter type VMxnet3 only is not supported for VMware workstation and also one of my hosts broke down several times with the low error message in the log file.

I managed to solve this problem by separating the storage traffic to a different vswitch and the traffic to a different VDS NSX.

  • Re-creating a VM DC

One of our administrators, located in a different location is sent me a file VMDK to recreate its domain controller 2003 window on my site.  Its domain controller is currently physical.

I informed him that I prefer to do a straight P2v to the ESXi 4 host and it involved all the required files "intact".   I feel a little uncomfortable about re = creating a DC to a vmdk file.

Y at - it to re - create a DC to a vmdk file is?   I understand that by using a vmdk file work in the creating a new virtual machine, but I feel a little uncomfortable when it is a domain controller.

Rather than describe the questions here, I would like to read YellowBricks - convert domain controllers and the links provided there. I think he will explain better that I could do it here in my words.

BTW: It's the same thing with snapshots. You should NEVER go back to a snapshot on a domain controller.

  • Virtual domain controllers

We have a Windows 2003 domain controller physical and a virtual domain controller. We are in the process of upgrading our domain to Windows 2008. We plan race for prep AD this weekend stuff. However, we are seeking emergency plans in case there is a problem and we must return to how the area looked before execution of the preparation.

A plan is that if there is a problem that brings us back we close the physical DC and restore the virtual domain from backup controller, clean the virtual domain controller and then rebuild the physical DC. It has also been suggested that we just instant the DC before we do the preparation and then return back from the snapshot (physical DC could be rebuilt). My thought is that we do not want to go back to a snapshot on a domain controller, but I can't get people to accept this without being able to explain why. I have been asked how it's different from restoring a backup VMDK.

Can anyone help with a good easy to understand explanations of why we do not want to come back from a snapshot and how restoring a VMDK backup is different than using the snapshot? Someone at - it the right best practices documents from VMWare that could explain it better? I found a document that talks about Virtualization ActiveDirectory and I read that but I'm looking for as much information as I can get.

    Thank you.

Ask them to read Microsoft kb 875495.  Just because something can or could work, does mean it's going to keep you in a State supported.

  • NSX environment with only a nsx controller

Is it possible to run the nsx environment with only a nsx controller?

    It is not supported.

According to the installation guide: ://pubs.vmware.com/NSX-62/topic/com.vmware.nsx.install.doc/GUID-ADAED74E-4796-4826-B138-2F9EFF0AB427.html http://http

  • NTP and NSX 6.2 dns controller

    Hello

How to set ntp/dns on the NSX 6.2 controllers? I added dns for the ip but show pool

    Johan

DNS servers should be added to the ip pool until inspectors are deployed in so that they can be configured on the controller.

Assuming that 192.168.2.22 is a dns server and 192.168.2.23 is an ntp server, the commands are:

    Add a dns-server 192.168.2.22 network

    Add a network ntp-server 192.168.2.23

  • Odd number of nodes in the Cluster controller NSX

Why odd number of knots are required in the controller NSX Cluster?

The election of the master for each role requires a vote by a majority of all active and inactive nodes in the cluster. This is the main reason why a Cluster controller must always be deployed based on an odd number of nodes.

  • State of the #2 NSX controller node remains on the DEPLOYMENT

    Hi all

    ************************************************

Let me start by describing my laboratory:

    vSphere 5.1 = > vCloud Director 5.1 = > vApp = > nested ESXi 6.0.u1 = > vcsa (outdoor installation) 6.0.u1 + NSX 6.1.4 Manager + NSX controller

    ************************************************

I am facing a strange behave of my NSX Manager.

I have deployed the first node in the cluster of my controller with no problems and when I deployed the second node, the device has successfully deployed but never started. In addition, the status of this new controller is stuck on the "deployment." I started the #2 controller and check is (see the control cluster status) and everything is ok.

I already tried without any improvement for:

    • Shut down the node, and then restart the Manager only
    • Restart the new node and the Manager,
    • keep the node running, then restart the Manager

Sounds like a problem of database. Is a person of experience already the same?

I will try to find a way to get and clear the record in the base during this time, do not hesitate to suggest

    Thanks in advance

Finally, I thought about using the API NSX to go further.

I've performed a GET method to list my controllers and their status through https://NSXManagerIP/api/2.0/vdn/controller.

I was able to confirm the status of the second node

As the method is not allowed (please, please let me know if I'm wrong) I had to remove the controller to do this, I launched a https://NSXManagerIP/api/2.0/vdn/controller/controller-2?forceRemoval=FalseDELETE method.

I was then able to re-deploy my controller :-)

PS: Note that if you delete the last controller, you will have to force the deletion by using the command https://NSXManagerIP/api/2.0/vdn/controller/controller-2?forceRemoval=true.

I would like to take a snapshot of one of the virtual domain controllers before you install the IMU component to restore if it causes problems.

Does anyone know how to do this correctly?

If I install the component on one of the domain controllers, to decide that it does not work as expected, restore the domain controller from the age of 1 hour and restart snapshot will there AD questions? Are there other measures that should be taken?

    Thank you!

    Hello.

This approach might violate support with Microsoft.  It is possible, but think of the consequences of not having support on ad, before trying this.  I would personally have ready another DC and a good system state backup.

"Active Directory does not support other methods to restore the contents of Active Directory. In particular, Active Directory does not support any method that restores a 'snapshot' of the operating system or is in the volume of the operating system disk. This kind of method causes a restore in the sequence of update (USN) number used to track changes in Active Directory. When a USN recovery occurs, the contents of data bases Active Directory on the incorrectly restored domain controller and its replication partners can be definitely incompatible"- MS 888794 kb
