Some applications Windows 8 will not be open and constantly return to the start screen

Some Windows 8 applications (calendar, Photos, Messenger, etc.) do not open and return to the start screen. I updated the computer, so the apps worked during this session.  However, after that I disconnected and re-connected to the laptop the next day, the same apps stopped working again.  This continues that occur on a regular basis.  How to solve definitively the problem?

Note: I noticed that others have this same problem, and I tried the troubleshooting suggestions (i.e., to download the troubleshooter of the modern user interface, cache cleanup, etc.), but none of these suggestions has definitely solved the problem.  I bought my new laptop two months ago and have been facing this problem since.  I want a permanent solution.

W8 comes with built in AV from Microsoft (Windows Defender) solution. You do
not actually need a third party.

I use Windows Security Essentials OK, but Windows Defender is DISABLED and cannot be turned on. What should do?

Windows Defender is part of the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled, nor can you install another fresh copy in the system. This Windows Defender lives and dies with the operating system.

It is called Microsoft Security Essentials, not Windows Security Essentials.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentilas) is supposed to close Windows Defender.
This is because MSE has his own Defender. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.

Therefore, it is normal to find widows Defender NOT enabled if you installed MSE.

You don't have to do a thing. So be.

If you want Windows Defender turned on because you want to access with the startup programs, here's another way without using Windows Defender...

Start button in the search box, type msconfig... Enter... click on start up tab... Here is the list of your startup programs.

Yes, I uninstalled the upgrade to IE9 and rebooted and unfortunately I can print my email again! No more unexpected call to the method.  Check my IE and it's IE8.

    Problem solved!

  • Store Windows 8 will not be open. Could not establish connection due to server problem or connection has expired

I had upgraded to windows 8.1 two weeks ago and had problems I did a system restore. Went through the update and now the store windows will not open so I can upgrade to 8.1 windows again. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Pinaki,

    Hope everything goes well.

    Thank you once again.

  • Store Windows 8 will not be open. Cannot find a solution anywhere.

By clicking on the app store causes a splash screen green with store logo on it will be displayed for 2 seconds. Then it switches automatically to desktop. I can always slip back to the app store opened, but it is stuck on the screen green logo and never loads.

Update your laptop. You must be windows 8.1 to see/install apps in the store.
You need the store windows in order to install windows 8.1 and my problem is that I can't open the store.
Ive tried to clean up the cache
Unable to get the store open to clean the cache
Ive tried the windows store toggle to help run gpedit.msc
    "Windows cannot find gpedit.msc".
I tried troubleshooting store/apps windows program
~ Said I needed a microsoft account to synchronize the settings. I now have an account and I restarted but the store still does not
~ Said I had to update the display drivers. Fact
~ Said I had to update a driver for a phone I no longer use... That's when I realized that this program does not do what it says it does. My old phone driver has nothing to with the opening of windows store
    Disable the proxy
I do not use one. Box is unchecked under internet options.
I tried calling support or the one dealing with what I am getting just 15 minutes hold tone, and then the guy who picks up I do not understand because of a thick accent. (Who even worse just me)
My laptop has been like this for about 8 months now. I just didn't need the store ever and now I want it. Useful answers are appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Computer laptop GATEWAY with Windows 7 will not be updated, and I searched this site for instructions.

I followed the instructions to make sure I don't understand the "update notification" on stop downs and other tips, but I have more patience at this point.  This has been going on and I can't the system up to date.  I made every effort (by previous questions and answers) to ensure that the free trial of Norton has been removed from this computer.  It is a laptop.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of Norton 360 2011 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

  • Often my e-mail application stops and returns to the start screen.

    Hello again,

The answer to fix my inability to eliminate the old emails worked.  I've deleted and reinstalled my Hotmail account (the one with the two old emails, I couldn't delete) and the problem was solved.  Now I have another that is more frequent than before.  I can be in my two email accounts (for the most part occurs in my second Yahoo account).  I could be in the middle of a long email or even just start and my computer automatically shut down the email, then go to the main start screen.  When I enter the e-mail icon, I am automatically taken to my "Hotmail" account each time.  It's so boring that I now have access to my accounts of messaging through Web applications.  In the beginning, sometimes this would save a draft of the email, but now it doesn't.  Not sure if I changed something that could have caused this because I had nothing else questions e-mail with 8 of the window.  Not a big fan of him and prefer Windows 7.  Thanks for any help to solve this very annoying problem.

had the same problem with my Windows 8, which has developed after choosing the prospects of the original Hotmail/Windows Live installation. On the Windows Welcome screen, I uninstalled the original mail app by clicking the tile and choose uninstall. I then reinstalled the app from the store Windows. The messaging application now opens successfully.
