Storage strategies, SSD?

First time with VSANS

If I have 6 guests with a mixture of SSD and the rotating discs, is it possible to force specific VMs to use the SSD or do I need to create a separate VSANS cluster?

6 guests:

Host 1 - 3 has 1 SSD and 8 turning each

Home 4 - 6 has all SSD

Thank you

There is a way to put a "Flash read the booking cache" on a VSAN hybrid both a VMDK can essentially 'live' in the level of caching in a hybrid configuration.

Honestly our caching isn't a simple FIFO buffer (we are working on publishing a good page 8 read on this subject) so unless your having problems and support is to steer you reserve the cache, I would trust CRA and other systems that we use to be smart enough to do the job.

FYI: the default policy is mirror once, Ray zero, no strength of commissioning, no reservation space.

You can have lots of fun with the policies, but I'm curious to know what is your use cases?

  • as additional storage mSATA SSD

    Hi all

    I have a touchsmart Envy 15-j003ed E4A07EA #ABH with a 4700mq I7, HP mainboard 1963.

The laptop came with a rather slow disk 5400 RPM. I changed this to a Kingston Hyper X 120 GB SSD sata 3. Which works very well. However, I would like to have some more space on board. Also only 4 GB of ram is installed I would spend it.  Related to it have 3 questions:

    (1) can I put a 120 GB or more in the slot msata SSD and use it as an extra hard drive? Not as a cache or almost...

    (2) or that it will be fast to do the startup disk msata ssd and use my current SSD storage?

    3) associated with the RAM, the specs give 1600 mhz speed, but the site of Kingston gives 1866 mhz as on option for the replacement, I use 1866 mhz?

Thank you very much in advance for your answer!

Yes, you can install a card from the WSSD in the slot mSATA for additional storage, but if you think that you can pick up just a larger SSD standard for less money extra. mSSDs have not yet appreciated the fall of wholesale prices we are seeing on 2.5-inch SSD. The WSSD cannot be a boot disc if you also have a standard 2.5-inch drive in the machine, which would be faster is a bit questionable. If possible, a WSSD would be a bit faster, but both are fast, it isn't a big deal.

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See page 44 for instructions of the WSSD.

The memory just be sure you get 1.35 volts or DDR3L memory. The manual says that it runs at 1600 mhz, so if you install the variety of 1866 he will just downclock.

  • Cannot use local shared with replica storage of SSD

So I had my environment from view for a while and everything works fine, but I have a question on how discovers works with the local replica SSD disks.  I read in the forums and in the document architecture and design if you use a local SSD to store your replicas (that will give you a performance gain), you cannot have your host in a cluster, thus renouncing HA and all the features that come with in a cluster of ESXi.

However, I meet me a further restriction that I couldn't find any mention of in the forums or documentation, namely that you cannot store the clones in a shared storage if you have a replica on the local disk.  Whenever I got to the stage of commissioning and selected a FC LUN shared as the storage for the linked clones container, the pool would tell me that there not available and there no validation.  However, if I create a LUN that ONLY the host which I use to store the replica on the SSD has access to, then the commissioning is fine.  So my question is this: Why can't place clones related on the shared with a local replica disk storage?  I understand that I will not be able to use the features of the HA, but I would rather just a LUN shared for all clones related to the ease of administration (instead of having to create one for each host).  If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong or explain to me why this is the case, it would be great.

OK, I found the documentation indicating that "If clone related data warehouses are shared, the replica data store must be shared. Replicas can reside on a store of local data only if you configure clones all connected on warehouses of local data on the same ESX host. "Who is on page 14 of the document storage considerations see here: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view_storage_considerations.pdf. However, it does not explain why this is, he said only that it is so.

So as a result of this requirement, it is logical that linked clones on a present at a single ESXi host LUN would support, but without link clones on a LUN present at multiple ESXi hosts.

  • The Msata SSD on HP Pavilion 14-n033TX update

Hi, I bought my new laptop HP Pavilion 14-n033TX with SSD specified 24 GB cache. I want to upgrade the SSD in drive for windows startup and have more storage for SSDS? The specifications of the SSD I need? m sata, half size or size and what is the maximum size for this? Thank you.

There are several ways to do so. Several SSD (Samsung for example) is issued with migration software (CD), but you'll need an adapter usb to SATA like that.

    http://www.Amazon.com/Patuoxun-converter-adapter-cable-drive/DP/B008ASF5MC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&QID=1407765939&SR=8-1&keywords=USB+to+SATA

Just connect the external SSD drive with this device and the boot of cloning a disk and follow the prompts to copy. Make sure the SSD you buy is greater than the data currently installed on the old drive. The clone will smoother copies two disks of the same size, but you can resize. Just be careful actual scores of Windows 8 that in some cases if you make them too small, you can't start or system of things like the Windows backup will not work.

If you have another external drive, you can also do a full Windows system backup and then restore the backup by using a Windows repair disk or OS installation disc.

Personally, I use Acronis True Image 2014 (older versions will not work with Windows 8).

    http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/pc-backup/?adpos=1t1&device=c&network=g&matchtype=b&creative=44836518617&gclid=Cj0KEQjw06GfBRCR9tDI4t6n5_MBEiQAFo6kuKlWUPWzHg3ZofpygwRHifSLDq0VVFocq9wW9ZF1gqMaAttq8P8HAQ

The trial version used to work for cloning, but they removed this feature. It costs $50 now; for me is worth I clone a lot of readers, but you probably want something for free.

When you cloned the old disk to the disk SSD just Exchange the SSD in laptop hard drive Bay.

  • Info for: mSATA SSD 80 GB and 750 GB hard drive (7200 RPM)

I buy the 14-2160SE Envy Beats Edition and it has a double drive; SSD HARD DRIVE &. I can't find any definitive info on the HP site or on the web. I am familiar with both types of readers, but not both on the same computer. How does it work? What is the purpose? If it switches automatically or pass them? And, especially, it works for the intended use? Although this is my first post, I'm a believer in public forums, so I don't know that I'll be back as soon as I got my desire. Thanks in advance for your help. Sam

The 80 GB SSD can contain the operating system and the 750 GB hard drive will be for storage. SSDS are very (very) fast but expensive, so you can get the speed without the monstrous price advantage by combining a little cheaper SSD with a hard drive for storage. I have a 500 GB SSD and it costs more than $600, but I thought I got a good deal. My laptop takes only a single drive. You have the advantage of being able to use the same laptop 2.

Readers will appear as readers symbolized under "Computer" (Windows Explorer). The SSD will be "C:\ >. Just be sure to move the "My Documents" folder to drive hard (if this has not already been done). Also when you install a new program and it asks the path where you want to install it, put it on the hard drive. In this way, you keep the SSD of McNeil. 80 GB will be plenty as long as you don't try to store large media files.

  • 1 TB HARD drive to Win8.1 m2 new SSD (591 G-VN7-73Y5)

I have an SSD M.2 expedition shortly and move Win8.1 from the HARD disk of 1 TB for the new disc.  I'll use the two drives, 1 TB of storage and SSD for the OS and programs.  I read a few threads on this but have a question.

It would be preferable to use a migration program to move BONES or can I do a fresh install on the SSD at a USB flash (Acer recovery facility)?

The ideal situation would be a new installation of the OS on the SSD and format 1 TB HARD drive.  I have a USB key that I'll put the acer recovery information and would like to do a new installation if possible.

Since windows 8.x use UEFI BIOS and it starts on windows startup management, you can set the SSD or HDD as primary boot device, but only the windows startup management.

probably you not facing any problem, try to install the USB to the SSD and check if it starts automatically the SSD.

If you wish, you can wipe the HARD drive before using the USB recovery media, create a USB bootable with partition magic software media and wipe the HARD drive before you start the whole process.

  • VCD storage strategy

I'm following along the steps of establishing a test environment for the vCD 5.5

I'm at the point where I have enabled VM storage, created of the tags for the storage policies and was ready to create a virtual machine storage policy.

In vCenter, when I click on the Ribbon to Crete a new VM storage strategy, I get a yellow box with a symbol red explanation - unable to connect to the profile-based management service.

I missed a step, or is this a service that needs to be enabled?

    Thank you

It seems that there is a problem in vCenter with PAF.  To do this, I would check in the forums of vCenter or KB.  Maybe try to restart the vCenter OS entirely, or that the services on the server/VM VMware storage.  I also think that storage strategies require Enterprise Plus licensing (last I checked, maybe wrong).

  • GarageBand installed in external drive

    Hi all

I'm running out of disk space on my MacBook Air. But I wanted to install GarageBand inside. The normal procedure is, I move the Garabeband application in the Applications folder, and when I run it first, it tries to download audio files. Problem is that there is not enough storage to all audio files, so the process will fail to half way through. I tried to move the application on an external hard drive and run it from there, but I think he's still trying to download the audio files to my library in the local storage of SSDS. I've read a few articles and did some searching on Google that explains that once you have installed and downloaded files, you can create a symbolic link and move these audio files on an external drive. My problem is that I don't yet have a facility of GarageBand.

Please can you me the paths of standard files, so I can create symbolic links and I have garage band download the audio files on my external hard drive? Is there another process that would make me run garageBand?

    Thank you all,.

    F

PS: A question side fast, I downloaded GarageBand for my iPhone and took the app in purchase to unlock everything. I love the app! Is it possible to get more instruments? Several agreements and tonal characteristics or these sequences of AutoPlay?

GarageBand strives to install in two places - open folder/library at the top level of your system drive.

Open the "Application Support" folder, there should be a GarageBand file inside.

And library should contain a folder "Audio" with folders for loops.

Has GarageBand already created partial files for this?

The SSD is a protocol M.2 Sata SSD from Samsung that you can read on herehttp: / /www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/flash-storage/client-ssd/MZNLF128HCHP

And yes it can be replaced by another more big M.2 SSD NVMe/PCIe Protocol or SATA. Although speeds are currently limited to current BIOS-based NVMe

  • Add second HARD drive to HP ENVY 17-j171sa Leap Motion TS SE Notebook PC

    Hello

Recently upgraded to SSD as HDD1 in my notebook using cable sheet etc. of 'newmodeUS '.

All the stable and works well, so I installed a second HDD (which I know works well) but the laptop does not see.

I even installed the drive HARD original as HDD2 but same problem

I cannot find any relevant info on diagnosing this problem, but I was wondering if this model (jump movement) may have a second internal HDD

I don't see anything in the BIOS on this topic

A point to note is that I had to remove a plate of maetal that was installed in the drive Bay HDD2 - possible is not designed to accept?

    Thank you

Following my last, next time I checked the disk Dirves in Device Manager, there was my Toshiba 1 TB as well as the SSD.

Quick format in humans of disc and it is in place and works very well!

Not too sure what happened here, I left the disks with the cables 'Swapped' in place and just to prove that everything is OK I swapped the cables back again an everything is OK (the original cable is now in HDD1 port with the SSD and the NewmodeUS cable is HDD2 port with the other disk from Toshiba.

So now I can use my 1 TB of extra storage as well as storage faster SSD - Hallelujah!

I also always the player original HGST I cloned the SSD at and could use again if the SSD fails or corrupt.

  • Perennial and Win 7 installed upgrading to win8

I'm building a new PC and I am determined to Win 7 Home premium on it.   I'm starting with a 1 to SATA HD, but I want to move to an SSD later.  MY question is, I have to buy a new copy of win7 to install on it?

In addition, with the upcoming release 8 victory, will be a new copy of win 7 come with the option to upgrade later WIN 8 without another payment and given the somewhat controversial Metro interface, configuration (I admit, I have not yet agree about it yet), I would be more able to come back to win 7?

Change the storage device (SSD HARD drive) does not require that you buy a new license of Windows 7, you can use the same license and reactivate by phone if necessary.

Purchasing Windows 7 today will not entitle you to a free upgrade to Windows 8. You can buy Windows 8 If you want to run on your computer. You can purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 from 26 October 2012.

  • want to BSOD 4 t-1000 - iaStor

    Want to 4 t - 1000, 13 months (& 1 month out of warranty!).

Matrices with BSOD after a few minutes of work - always fails iaStor.sys.

    1. I realized that the battery has an internal short circuit - so I removed for now.

    2. Ran - hard drive, memory, (same battery) system diagnostics all returned success in all tests.

    3 Ran spinrite disk - 100% ok.

    4. originally couldn't make it past the windows startup screen before you die - so I couldn't update drivers etc. (safe mode failed too)

    5. I ordered of new recovery disc reinstall because initially it would not get before the windows splash screen before dying.

6 recovery disks not every time (6 times).  I tried all of the suggestions that I could find. -wouldn't boot correctly after the installation of the software.

7 bootdisk opportunity for kaspersky rescue disk - ran fine - no viruses - has not crashed.

    8. following suggestions internet - installed win 7 Home premium ISO downloaded from digitalriver.

    9. this installation required (iaStor) rapid storage drivers intel HP at the start before he would find by car - but it installed great.

    10. had fresh windows install to run great for 1 hour.

11 opportunity USB stick to copy the drivers to the latest hp on the support site for networking, usb, graphics, etc...

    12. the thought that I had won - then it BSOD with iaStor.sys failure once again.

    13. now it starts but dies within 5 minutes.

There must be a driver issue!  Perhaps an inconpatibility with an update of windows.

It's a $1000 {content removed} now, it's just a year.  What gives?  There must be someone out there who has corrected this.  I see other posts on the same problem, but I still have to find a solution.

    Please, can someone help me?

    Update...

After many many attempts and Michio, I got the laptop working again.

    (1) I tried to install kubuntu - live version worked, but I could not install.  Decided it was function of WSSD cache drive and funky path that intel 'rapid storage technology' is used to cache the OS for the ssd of 32 GB.

    (2) found this site Directions to reformat desire Sleekbook

    (3) these indications had me remove the SSD cache drive and restart to access RAID Configuration Manager.  Disable the RAID for the main drive. -The illusory Configuration RAID Manager appeared, and I chose to remove the disc from the configuration.

    (4) the next step is to replace the drive ssd and restart - get Configuration RAID Manager again.  HOWEVER, the RAID Configuration Manager never run - never to be seen or found again

    (5) now the urge finally lost all memory of the previous windows install (at the start is more said that windows can not start more she said even after I formatted the drive).  I saw this as a step forward.  HOWEVER, now he would no longer see the USB ports and I could not boot to a USB - DVD player.  The laptop was dead.

    (6) after several reboot attempts and a time-out from time to cool, I tried again and was either lucky or he had something to with the fact that I was pressing the four corner keys (ctrl, delete, esc, rt-arrow) at the same time (probably lucky).  Anyway, he finally saw the USB-DVD player and I was able to install the version Home premium windows that I downloaded from digitalriver (not the hp recovery cd).  Then I installed only the drivers HP minimum, that I could get away with - network, audio, usb, card reader.    The laptop has been running nonstop for more than a day without any problem.  First time in a month that he doesn't have a BSOD in the 30 minutes of running.

    (7) the only negative - I think that Intel Rapid Storage and SSD Cache are no longer works.  Don't know if this means that the SSD Cache was my problem all along, or if it was the RAID controller which also seems to be out of the picture.  Anyway, the laptop works again.

I don't know if I recommend you to everyone they are trying the steps that my work, but for the last month, I was assuming that I would have to throw this laptop and now I have a working laptop again!

    Two or three observations:

-Why is the Manager of Configuration RAID hidden and inaccessible?

-Why the system diagnostics are not unaware of the SSD drive?

-Why is the disc SSD Cache affects negativily recovery and retry installation?

-Why is the case of jealousy so flexible that the laptop with one hand in place picking shorts the battery?

-Why HP pay $100 for a bag of screws to replace the two screws that are missing in my case?

-Why would I by an another HP laptop again?

  • Small catalog in master catalog merge

I have what is probably a common situation, so hopefully someone here can help me out.  I have LR on 2 computers Win10.  One is bigger with a lot of storage space (SSD and hd) and usually rest at home.  The other is a small ultrabook I use when away from home (sometimes for weeks or even months).  For 16 years, I have had all my off-camera photo original files in a folder that contains monthly subfolders that look like this:

    p-2000-01

    p-2000-02

    .

    .

    .

    p 2016-07

    p 2016-08

Currently, I have almost 100 photos of k in these files.  I have only these off-camera photo original files in my LR catalog.  My biggest home computer has all these on a hard drive internal, but my little ultrabook has no where close to enough space.  The ultrabook I just the more recent months. For example:

    p 2016-05

    p 2016-06

    p 2016-07

    p 2016-08

Here's my question.  Can I create a small catalog on my ultrabook that only has photos on it and then merge them into the great, master catalog on the computer at home later?  I think the answer is Yes, but here are some possible pitfalls that I am very clear on:

1 suppose I have perform the merge for the catalogue of the computer at home and then more later to add more photos and monthly records in the ultrabook and import them into the small catalog.  The small catalog now has photos that had already been merged into the great, master and new catalogue photos that are only in the small catalog.  That I can then combine this new version of the small catalog with the master catalog and there will be no problems because some of these pictures in the small catalog had previously been merged into the master catalog?

    2. now more than some of the old pictures in the small catalog that had previously been merged into the master catalog had subsequently changes made on the ultrabook (edition, number of stars, etc.).  When I do the next merger of this small catalogue to the master who already has these pictures in there will be changes made since the last merge also be deferred?
