Strange phone calls

I get a call from someone claiming to work for Windows requesting access to my computer to fix the malware. Utility of Windows troubleshooting says I have no problem and my antivirus is up to date. This could be a real call, or should I ignore them?

SCAM - don't give them access.

  • Strange phone call from Microtech saying my computer has a virus

This morning I received a strange phone call. The caller ID said TRIKON but speaking men said they were by Microtech. I could barely understand what they said, and they had Middle Eastern accents. They asked that a program on a computer with windows 7 was about to crash, once again I barely understood what they were still talking. They spoke as they were apparently trying to save my computer by a virus. They asked me to go in my command prompt and type Assoc. at this point the call seemed really shady and suspicious. I have no idea how they had our information, they wouldn't tell us who they worked for, and the call quality was extremely poor. We hung their call, and then moments later recalled, we told them everything was fine and that we would be talking to a real representative of microsoft. They did not return after that. It was all very suspicious, I ran several scans on my computer, but I did not notice any problems. I'm very confused, and I don't know if I'd be worried. I would much appreciate it if someone could help me on this situation. I have also some question. TRIKON is in collaboration with microsoft? Is there a computer in circulation problem? I want much help from one who has experienced this problem, as well as support from Microsoft.

-I would like to thank very you much for your time.

This is a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Identity theft? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

    1 reinstall Windows properly

    2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

It's a scam and with various names and phone numbers, is
    very frequent lately. See

In addition to their money get on your part to do anything of any value,
If you leave them in your computer, which knows what losses they did are
    where confidential information they stole.

So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following
    immediately:

1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.
    2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other
    financial sites.

However if you refused to let them in your computer, you're safe
and there is no need to do the foregoing. You can't even
change the password that you did.

  • Strange phone call

I was contacted thid morning from someone who said he was from microsoft windows.  He said that my computer has been hacked and that it might crash.  He said he could help me if I did what he told me on the computer.  I was leary I had a hard time to understand his broken English and I had not been informed on the computer by Microsoft of all problems.

I told her I didn "t want to do and hung up.  I was wrong?

    Maxine Poechman

You did exactly the correct thiing.  Microsoft will never cold call someone and there is no way in creation that someone from Microsoft is watching remotely from your PC from malware.  This is actually a fairly common scam.  Had you taken the lead with her, the person would have installed malicious software or stolen person info he could.

  • After a strange phone call trying to sell me a security package, I have a virus

    Hello

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

    Hope this information is useful.

Hi I wonder if anyone else had this happen... made phone calls for me on my landline by the microsoft support team as he really worried about who they are?

It's a scam.  Never provide any access to your PC to someone who calls you with some story about virus infections (etc.) is detected on your PC.  MS would never do that (plenty of examples in the MSE forum if you care to look).

More tips - social engineering is a term for the bad guys who try to convince you to do something that would allow them to infect your computer or gather confidential information (Bank online identifiers for example...)
You (and everyone!) need to be careful to not be fooled (and some of these guys are VERY GOOD at deceiving people.

  • I received a phone call from someone who said they were the Windows technical support. I did not understand the person that he was a stranger

The person calling said he could give me a technical support for problems that they had detected with my computer, but he seemed surprised when I said that I had problems with my computer.  I did not understand a lot of what he was saying because of his foreign accent.  Can someone tell me what it is?  I don't think that I may have a virus, but Windows actually call for help?

You were lucky that you could not understand him and so do not buy what he was selling.  It was a scam.  Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls.

Insofar as thought, you could have a virus...

  • Error followed by phone call report scam.

    Hi all

4-5 days, I allowed my system to make an error report after a glitch that makes Windows close. I have not done this before and hardly have these glitches.

Today, I got a phone call from an Indian call centre telling me that they were Microsoft answering my error report. They had checked and found a deadly Virus that they could correct if I accepted were using their protector of the Advance system. This would eliminate the problems that I had seen (I'm NOT having continuous problems) and speed up my PC.

I could barely hear what was said the helmet/phone line were terrible, and I told them.

They said I could join their system of protection to 70 books online and my cyber-world would be safer and faster.

I said that if their software was as bad as their phone equipment, I wasn't interested.

However, my REAL concern is that it was the only time where I received my system Windows make an error report. It seems strange that my error report has been so closely followed this call scam.

This company there in detail the report error and my phone number.

Or was it just a coincidence.

    Thanks for any input.

The phone call was not from Microsoft. I suspect that your computer is infected and the 'error report' you got the malware, which sounds like a rogue security program came. Make sure that the computer is clean.

If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop.

  • Hiss in the background of every phone call

Another question, I found with my Droid - there is a shrill whistle in the background of every phone call, almost as if there is a kettle for tea boiling in the room with whom I speak. He's weak, but noticeable — I just had a conversation with someone who heard on their end as well. It is not a thing of feedback, there is no echo and my phone volume is low. I tried to turn off voice privacy setting, but that did not help. Strangely, I can't hear it when I call something with the automated menu, such as voicemail or my Bank options. Does anyone else know this?

There should be no kettle... resume and get one that sounds good.

There is nothing here that will help you in this.  I'm really sorry, you have a phone that doesn't work but just to take it back.   You can also call Verizon and ask them to send you a new... they are doing this, including an envelope to return the old phone with. Then you call fedex and omit the thing for them. It's really simple.   Just so to call Verizon and get a new one.

    It's your only recourse, really.
