Studio XPS 8000 C-Drive

My Studio XPS8000 reports an error on drive C S.M.A.R.T. HDD; This is why must be replaced.  The original C drive in this computer is a 1 TB Seagate BARRACUDA 7200.12 model ST31000528AS; interface SATA 3Gbp/s.  This disc is not now offered by many vendors because it has been replaced by the most recent Seagate ST31000524AS.  Specifications for this most recent HARD drive are the same as the old except that its interface is SATA is 6Gbp/s instead of 3Gbp/s.

Seagate says in the manual to the new HDD ST31000524AS under "Setting up the drive" it may not work unless the host adapter or motherboard supports SATA speed autonegotiation.  I see nothing in the Dell manual for the XPS8000 on this ability.

Does anyone know if the XPS8000 supports SATA speed autonegotiation OR a SATA 6Gbp/s HARD drive works like his C drive?  Anyone had success using a SATA HDD 6Gbp/s HARD drive as drive C in a XPS8000 of Studio?

Thanks for any help to solve this problem!

Thank you for your response, OSPREY4.

I couldn't be positive that a 1 to HARD SATA 6Gbps drive would work in a XPS8000 Dell when Dell it comes with a HARD SATA 3Gbps as drive C, because the difference of read/write transfer rate is SATA II and SATA III.  If I wanted to make sure before installation of the SATA III HARD drive as drive C.

A representative of tech Dell assured me this morning via online chat that the XPS8000 supports SATA speed autonegotiation and therefore the 6Gbps SATA III HDD THAT will work in it.  In addition, I was assured that this is true for the Dell XPS8300 as well.

Again, I appreciate your response to my post.

My Studio XPS 8000 (end of 2009) has no problem with sleep (S3) and wake up before I upgraded the Dell OEM Geforce GTX 260 arrives with the EVGA Geforce GTX 750 Ti system.

At present, the system has no question to go to sleep mode, however, when I try to wake the system by pressing power button/keyboard/mouse, System stucks after I hear the disc hard turns noise, and the screen stays black (no signal), then the system hangs there forever. I have to turn off the system and restart.

Other than / Eve black screen, the system works without any problem.

I upgrade the firmware MB(0X231R, intel P55) A03 BIOS, make sure also that I use the latest version of the driver for the gtx 750 ti (344.75 WHQL). Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. Still no luck.

On some forums, I found people say X 58 (not P55, but maybe the same reason) mainboard a sleep problem with latest Nvidia cards, because of the interactions between the BIOS and the operating system. The problem, to a patch of BIOS. XPS8000 being 5 years old, I don't think not that it will receive an update of the BIOS.

I wonder if there is a solution to this problem?

    Thank you.

Update: the issue has been raised again.

I need to talk with Nvidia support agents, and they helped.

The next step fixed my problem:

And further to isolate the problem, remove the graphic driver NVIDIA completely and start the cmputer only with generic driver checking windows if she still has the issue.

Use the display driver UN-Installer (DDU) and remove the NVIDIA files.

  • Dell studio xps 1645 sound driver IDT works only when it is installed.

I have the dell studio xps 1645 with windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed on. I have a problem since I format the laptop and reinstalled windows 7 and driver.

The problem is that with the IDT sound card driver. When I start up the laptop, I couldn't find any noise until then I install the IDT audio driver which is from the website of dell (dell.com.au) under the drivers of dell studio xps 1645 by download. Sounds appears when I installed this driver, but it is not as it should. I mean whenever I do reboot or turn off and then on the laptop, the sound will not come up to what I do reinstall the driver again. I'll also technician support close to home and they couldn't find anything wrong. I therefore ask microsoft in the hope that they know the way

    . Thank you.

    Hi Felix,.

Thanks for posting your question on the Forums of community of Microsoft.

I understand that the sound of your system plays only after you update the audio drivers. The question could arise due to the installation of the corrupt or incompatible driver package.

Before troubleshooting, I would like to inform you that the drivers for the model of your system on the Dell Web site are displayed for Windows Vista, by default. So, I recommend you to change the operating system to Windows 7 while choosing for pilots.

In addition, I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Try running the fixit for audio playback of Windows problems and check if it helps.

Diagnose and solve the problems of Windows audio playback automatically

If the problem persists, try the following method.

    Method 2:

If you have installed Windows 7 drivers from the website and have not properly been able to play the audio, then I suggest you to install the Windows Vista drivers from Dell site in compatibility mode and check for the issue.

    1. Download the Windows Vista driver on the Dell website.
    2. Right-click on the downloaded driver file.
    3. ClickProperties , and then select the compatibility tab.
    4. Check enable the option run this program in compatibility mode for: , then select Windows Vista from the drop down.
    5. Click OK and install the driver.

You can install all internal, SATA, 3.5 ", hard drive 7200 RPM, up to 2 TB in size.

Best to search hard drives Western Digital and Seagate brands, also check the length of the manufacturer's warranty, plus the better.

  • Add SSD to the Studio XPS 8100 with 2 HARD drive

    Hello

I have a request similar to this one in this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/p/19499585/20334228.aspx#20334228 but I went a little lower on the line, need some advice and help on the Intel Rapid Storage Technology controller.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with discs of Segate to 2 x 1 TB which have stripes.

    Configuration is SATA 1 + 2 = hard disks scratched; 3 = BluRay ROM/DVD RW SATA; SATA 4 = not used.

    I bought a Samsung SSD 840 series.

What I want to do is add the new SSD controller and install Windows 8 without messing/breaking the existing 2 x HDD Striped Array.

First, I installed the SSD SATA 4 and started Windows 8 to DVD but Windows 8 says it could not install on this disk because it is not bootable (SSD is not formatted/not partitioned right now but I guess that Windows 8 installation will do for me.

    If the questions are:

    (1) if I go the SSD SATA 1, could I (physically) move the existing striped 2 HDD SATA 2 and 3 and set this configuration in technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology controller without losing the striped table?  I don't want to find that the controller will set up a table of fees which then requires a fresh format in order to to use.

    (2) is there a documentation of this controller I could read on what concerns the reconfiguration/options and their effect?

    Thank you
    Chris

I am pleased to learn that you have to work.  Sometimes I forget that the newer Dell BIOS will allow allows you to select a SATA port for the start.  My XPS 410, being an older machine, allows me only to the ability to choose 'SATA hard drive' as boot device.  Because it does not give me the option to choose a specific port, the bootable SATA drive must be attached to the first port.

Once a RAID has been configured, the parametric data written to readers allow the RAID ROM figure out how the RAID has been configured.  I've been through all this on a Studio XPS 435 t/9000; We had a problem after adding a new video card in the system that caused startup failure, error message "one or more of your drives are locked".  We have solved by moving readers from the ports of third and fourth (or Dell originally installed them) to the ports of first and second.  Requirement to keep records in the same relative order of port, you can of course make this transition and maintain the operational computer.

I wish that your installation does not end with an arrangement of dualboot on its own; Maybe Windows 8 works differently from Windows 7.  The XPS 410, I'm currently using is a RAID 0 which has been initially configured with Windows XP.  When I decided to try Windows 7, I has narrowed the original partition and run the Windows 7 Installer to install in the unallocated space resulting.  The installation went normally and I found myself with a system dual boot without ever having had the opportunity to indicate that I wanted a system dual boot.  Since it was my goal, I'm not complaining, but I see that it might be inconvenient for some people who had the intention like that.  Before installation, you accidentally set your SSD on port 4 to be the first in the boot order?

  • To add a 2nd hard drive on my desktop Dell Studio XPS 7100

I have a HD 1 TB there already comes with the system. Add 2 to 7200 RPM SATA 3.5 "HD which is available on the Dell site and make a total of 3 TB? I thought I read somewhere that my office is designed for a maximum of 2 TB. 3 to work always but maybe just a little more slowly?
You can also the 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.5 "HD would work, too? I ask because my office is not listed in the compatibility for this particular HD list.

You will need to buy a SATA data cable, there should be an additional power supply connector into the drive case.

The procedure of installing a second hard drive in the 7100, are here:

    FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_studio_xps_desktop/Studio-XPS-7100_Service%20Manual_en-us.PDF

Tip: Open the case and check that Dell has provides the drive for additional hard drive cage.

Once the drive has been installed, check the configuration of the system, including the SATA port, it is connected, turned on [on] and the hard drive is recognized.

So for Windows recognizes the additional drive, you must partition, format and assigned to a drive letter using Windows Disk Manager.

  • What type of SSD (2.5 "SATA III or mSATA) is compatible with my Studio XPS 1640?

    Greetings.

I'm looking to update / replace the original hard drive in my Studio XPS 1640.  I decided on a SSD Samsung 1 TB 850 Evo, but - without opening to the top of my laptop an extra time - I don't know which format is compatible: the 2.5 "SATA III or the mSATA?  I will very happy if someone can tell me which of these SSDS work with my laptop.

You need a reader 2.5 "SATA - there is no support for type mSATA or readers PCIe card in this system.

The SATA controller is 3G, so you will not see the full implementation of a SATA 6 G - you'll get only half of that can support the disk - but a SATA SSD will work with the system.

The system is designed for a 9.5 mm hard drive - you'll need a spacer to mount a 7 mm SSD (some readers from Samsung and Crucial include;  If yours is not that they are just a few dollars).

Yes, the Studio XPS 435 t/9000 supports three 3.5 ", SATA drives, see page 57 here:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_studio_xps_desktop/Studio-XPS-9000_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.PDF

You need a SATA, 3.5 ", internal hard drive 7200 RPM, a SATA data cable 2 x 6-32 x 1/4 cylinder head screws to install the drive, there should be a spare 15 pin power connector SATA for him in the case.

  • Evolution of the IDE to AHCI in Studio XPS 1640

    Hello world

I'm about to clean install Windows 10 on a new SSD.

How to you switch from IDE to AHCI mode prior to installation on the Studio XPS 1640?

How to activate the mode of compensation?

    Thank you.

    Hi Stock4j,

I guess that you have a complete backup of your system drive and files before installing the new drive and the OS.

To change the mode of the controller SATA, boot in the BIOS (F2). There will be two or three options, ATA, RAID and AHCI. If AHCI is not available, choose the RAID or AHCI.

You have no need to activate the TRIM. With a clean installation, TRIM should be enabled automatically earn 10.

  • Studio XPS 13 "Audio Popping/idle

I don't understand what it is with these new laptops coming out these days. It's as if the companies that sell them are fully testing at all. I don't do random accusations, I am talking about first-hand personal experience, purely.

About two months ago I bought the 13 "Macbook aluminum. I never liked the Mac OS a lot, so I installed Vista Home Premium using Boot Camp. First thing I noticed when I played any music, videos or games, audio at regular intervals would play way slowed down, and separate crackles can be heard in the background. So I did some research and found out it was because of the the network adapter driver Broadcom Wireless N having some compatibility issues. After updating the driver, the problem has been resolved. But I was not satisfied with the way in which the trackpad worked in Vista, so I returned the Macbook.

Now two months later, here I am with this laptop Studio XPS very sexy. I must admit, the quality of these Dell computers (at least aesthetically) improved considerably. I can walk around with this thing in my hands with as much confidence as if I were to walk around with aluminum Macbook elegant and sexy. But as I turned on my XPS Studio, and I'm not talking in the first hour of the reception of this laptop, I came across two major problems.

    (1) my optical drive was certainly defective. It is INCREDIBLY loud grinding noises when any disk is put and sometimes the disc would cease to turn completely during an installation, and installation may stop or give up.

    (2) to my surprise, really, to my surprise, this Dell has the same problem that my Macbook Alunimum had when running in Vista. Audio jerky noises, and at regular intervals, he would play in a slow manner. Once again, I have googled around and wanted to seek answers, but nothing useful has come. So I called Dell Technical Support and the lady was extremely patient and professional, but she was not able to solve the problem for me. So, here I am with an investment of $2,000 that I am not completely satisfied.

Dell is sending me a box in the next few days so that I can send this Studio XPS for repairs. For some reason, I really doubt that the audio problem will be supported according to what it is for me. The optical drive should be easy, if they decide to share a (functional) for me.

If someone has the same audio problem that I am experiencing and found a way to take care of the problem without these compromises like turn off WiFi, please feel free to comment and share.

And finally, on a side note, if anyone cares, I was extremely disappointed by the time it took for me to get this laptop from Dell. Initially, I placed my order on January 19, 2009. I received the laptop on February 20, 2009. It took a whole month for the laptop to finally come, and now I'm looking at another 20 days or more for this thing to go through delivery and repairs. Seriously thinking about getting a refund on this Dell and get over it now.

There should be a rev BIOS next updated in the output block August for audio latency on the Studio XPS 13 issues. For the E6400, I say two things: update your driver LAN wireless first, and if it does not, start a new thread for your system model.

  • Dell Studio XPS 1647 speakers not working not

Hello, on my Studio XPS 1647 speakers suddenly stopped working. I started it yesterday to the top and there is no sound. Speakers they are silent, but will not reactivate. I downloaded the latest driver and have had no luck even after several reboots. Anyone know what could be the cause?

Try to use the system restore Windows (type in the search box system restore) and choose a date of before yesterday when you first noticed the problem.

Also, make sure the Windows Audio Service. (type services.msc in the box.) Scroll down to Windows Audio Service in the list and make sure it is running and set to automatic.

My hard drive died on my Dell Studio XPS 435MT. I'm doing a clean install of Windows Vista 64 bit on my new HARD drive using DVD relocation provided by Dell with the PC.

Whenever I try to boot from the CD/DVD drive, I gives me a message saying "no Diagnostic Utility Partition identified; Press a key to reboot... »

    (2) as I said, I am able to start Windows Setup screens when the HD is initially disconnected during startup. After I get to the Windows Setup screen I plug HD on the motherboard. The new HD must be recognized if I do this? Currently it is not.

  • Upgrade of RAM Studio XPS 435 t

    I have a Studio XPS 435 t, 64 bit, Windows 7, with 8 MB of Ram. (4) 2 MB sticks in slots 0-3.

I'll upgrade to Windows 10 and have been informed that I have the 8 MB is less realistic.

Can I add 4 MB (2) sticks to the empty slots, 4 & 5, or do I put 2 MB sticks in them like the others?

Or is there a better solution?

    Thanks in advance

The 435 t is not on the list of Dell systems tested for their compatibility with Win 10. This means it will not work win 10, but you might have a few driver problems that Dell won't help you solve. So before you do anything, it would be a good idea to your Win 7 HDD on external image so that you can quickly return to Win 7 if Win 10 does not work right.  At a minimum, back up all your personal files to an external support.

Check the RAM installation Manual in the 435 t (not MT). You need the corresponding modules in slots 1,3,5 (blue) and matched modules in 2,4,6 (Pink). If you cannot add 4 GB modules to empty slots 5 and 6 If the other passers-by have 2 GB modules.

You can get 4 x 4 GB of RAM for this model ~ $100 + at crucial.com to replace what you have now. Or you could buy 3 x 4 GB to fill the blue slots and use the old 3 x 2 GB of RAM (assuming they are all matched) into the pink slots for a total of 18 GB.

The crucial guarantees that RAM will work if they recommend the modules for a specific system, or they take it back.

Only you can decide if the cost is worth it for an old (er) PC. And you might want to try upgrading to win 10 first before spending $ on new RAM.

  • DELL Studio XPS 1645 Windows XP Audio drivers

    Hello guys,.

I desperately need drivers for my DELL Studio XPS 1645 Windows XP Pro SP3 compatibility

I know that 32 bit OS does not work well with my processor and RAM, so do not mention please, I use this for the programming of the car.

Tried ABSOLUTELY everything imaginable I stumbled upon Web sites after searching, but didn't help at all :(

No sound from speakers, no sound in the headphones, nothing...

    Guys, H E L P :(

Dell gets from the provider, IDT HD drivers. I don't know exactly how the procurement process, but I guess that when Dell order equipment for a specific system, drivers for operating systems that Dell intends to support are included in the order. If it's something like this then of course a manager can later allow the expense of having a driver written for an operating system that is not supported on a discontinued model.

The operating system of this forum section has a driver request thread. Someone there might know of an alternative audio driver which might work on your system.

One solution is to get an adapter usb audio.

I don't know what "join" - it's something to do with virtual XP?
