Tecra 550cdt enabling the DMA mode

Hello, I have a 550Cdt Tecra using windows 98se, I would activate the DMA mode for my hard disk drive, if enable DMA, after windows restarts, it stops showing the windows startup logo. I have to stop the laptop with the power button. In this case, I hear a click from the hard drive.

I use the standard disk controller driver 05/05/98 of microsoft and to replace the Toshiba IDE controller driver extended 05/06/98 allows only to enable DMA for the CD rom, but not the hard drive mode.

I did a long search on other forums and there are other people have the same problem. I checked the pinouts, slick IDE connector (PCB FAL2H0 HDD Flex Cable conn. B36080141012) and the IDE HD no. 21, DMARQ PIN is not connected to the motherboard.

This could be a design problem? Is there a software solution or a modification of the connector is possible?

Hello Florian

As far as I know that this unit is about 8 years old, comes with Windows 95. Each book is designed and preinstalled to operate well and stabile. Physical infrastructure and pre-installed software must work harmonic. As far as I know that all of the settings in the software and the OS are configured to work without any problems. So much about the design problem.

Back to your question: as far as I know if you want to use the DMA (faster information transfer) chipset and OS must be taken in charge. I think that in your case the hardware phone don't support that. Please do not forget that the right chipset driver is installed. All that s.

In my opinion, expect a little too much of this good old classic. ;)

  • Satellite A100 - Questions about slow start, not in the DMA mode CD drivers

    Hi all

as you can see I have 3 questions:

    1. my Satellite A100-153 starts very slowly (current running avira antivir and sunbelt pfw only like on my other laptop which is older than this one, but not slow start)-anyone has any idea why (I would be very gratefull because I don't have reinstall win and all my stuff)?

2 Nero tells me that my CD is not running in DMA mode - where can I check and fix this?

    3. drivers - am I forced the drivers supported on this site or can I use the drivers directly from the manufacturer (ATI for my graphics card, Intel for my chipset realtek for my sound and so on)?

    Help is welcome!

    Hello

For me, it will be interesting to know what operating system you are using. Anyway, I'll try to give my short opinion on your questions:

-many other factors may be responsible for slow start. It is usually the OS configuration. I'll try to find an interesting article, how to make faster starting and I will post it here for you.

--entrer enter in the device IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Manager, enter the properties for secondary IDE chanel and open the Advanced Settings tab. Is under transfer mode DMA if available? If this isn't the case, set it to please and after reboot check if the problem persists. DMA if available is usually defined as a default value.

-In general, you can use it but it is well known that manufacturers of graphics card don't support mobile graphics cards and laptop manufacturers are responsible for.

I recommend you to use the Toshiba drivers only. All of these drivers are put to the test.

  • Satellite L300-01:00 - DVD in PIO mode, cannot activate DMA mode

    Hello everyone,

Recently, I have a laptop Toshiba L300-01:00 and I have a little problem with the DVD-ROM drive. Maybe some of you can help me with their knowledge. So here's the problem:
The DVD runs very slow, I guess in the PIO mode. I can't switch to DMA mode because there is no options.

On ' Device Manager / IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers ' options are a single - 'Intel(r) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller' where you cannot activate DMA mode.

I have WinXP SP2, SATA and all the other drivers installed.

So my question is, how can I enable the DMA mode for the DVD player?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

I have a laptop with installed U400 XP OS and I the primary IDE channel entry into the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

Main channel that you can switch to the PIO or DMA is available in IE.

Now the question is; How do you install XP on your laptop?
Usually, the SATA mode must be set to AHCI in the BIOS, and you must include the SATA drivers to install Win XP on this laptop.

Then a primary IDE channel should if poster in devices and the PIO or DMA settings manager should be there.

  • Tecra A9 - compatibility/AHCI in the BIOS mode

The Toshiba Tecra A9 seems to have a serious lack of implementation of the BIOS: it has an Intel ICH8 - M - SATA controller capable of running in Intels so-called "handset Mode" that allows it to act as a controller SATA AHCI, a normal IDE controller or mix the two for various channels.
The BIOS allows to adjust it to the "compatibility" - mode that seems to work correctly by running in the IDE for all channels mode, but the mode "AHCI" seems to be set up wrongly. AHCI is a standard for SATA devices that is widely used and the Tecra A9 defines only the hard disk to use SATA AHCI - optical drive CD/DVD-ROM rest in IDE mode which leads to conflicts of pilots as only one driver can access the controller in DMA mode - when the value of both SATA and IDE modes, two drivers are needed for one physical chip.
'AHCI' in the BIOS must activate the peripheral subject connected to the controller is running in SATA AHCI mode, but as I already said, it is not. Only the hard drive will be displayed as SATA device.

For me, this looks like a defect in the BIOS that needs to be repaired.

    Best regards
    Peter

    Hello

I think that it s perhaps a default, but you done already encountered problems with the execution of the "compatibility mode" where the CD/DVD drive (IDE ;)) works in "IDE mode"?

Do you have a few mistakes or something similar? If so, then it s probably REALLY a bug, but if not, maybe this 'combined mode' (I know what you´re talking about my old 875P Chipset and my ICH5 have the same thing) works correctly.
In my machine (desktop computer with a DFI Lanparty 875P and northwood at 3 Ghz) runs in the "handset mode" so that everything works to make it compatible in "IDE" mode But I Don t a loss of performance.
It s not as fast when I drive in pure SATA mode, but then my DVD won't work.

So, if you have problems with the machine then I agree, otherwise "it s not a bug, it s a feature" ;)

    Welcome them

  • How to enable DMA mode? Performance says I'm in PIO mode?

I have problems with slow performance. I ran Microsoft fix and told me of programs run in mode PIO (programmed input/output). turn on the DMA (direct memory access) mode will help performance. I don't know how to do in this regard.

Check in device - ATA/ATAPI IDE controllers Manager, check the properties of each channel, tab advanced settings to a checkbox enable DMA.

In private browsing mode all cookies settings are the same as in normal mode, so all open tabs and windows share the same set of cookies.

The only difference is that you do not have access to cookies created in normal mode (you get a new set) and the session mode PB cookies are never saved on disk and are deleted when the end of this session of PB.

  • Tecra 550CDT, Details of the BIOS

    Hello

I'm trying to figure out if my Tecra 550CDT will support the upgrade of my hard drive with 20 GB (from the current 4 GB).

However, the details about the BIOS of TOSHIBA are very rare on the support site - all I have to go on is my manual and Readme files that update the bios acommpany. It is not particularly useful.

I have of course updated to the latest version (8.0 years mid-2000), but I would like to know what it takes in charge before I buy.

Anyone know where I could find info on this BIOS or a way to say if it supports the upgrade?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello suneel

Sorry to interrupt this discussion but I feel somehow, he's going in the wrong direction.
If I understand you well you want to just install on your Satellite A300 WXP. Am I right about that?

On this forum, that you will find, I believe, hundreds of threads with description Specifies how to do that.
What you need is WXP CD facilities with integrated SATA driver.

Check it please this page. You will find beautiful description how to find SATA drivers. At the end you can also find the link to the guide for "Slipstreamer SATA driver in the Windows XP boot cd using nLite".

When the WXP is installed just continue with the installation of the driver Windows XP Edition family. If your laptop is supported WXP you can find them on the download page of Toshiba.

    I hope this helps.
    Good luck!

However, when I follow these steps, I don't see the 'allow this device to wake the system from standby mode ' check box on any of the windows as described in the documentation for Ms.
I use a Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 (IntelliPoint) USB

    This gives a test:

    1. click on START
    2. click on 'run '.
3 type "notepad" (without the quotes) and press enter
    4. copy and paste this into Notepad:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb]
    "USBBIOSHACKS" = DWORD: 00000000
    "USBBIOSx" = DWORD: 00000000

    5. click on file > save as
    6. change the dropdown to "all files".
7 type usb.reg as the file name and save the file somewhere easy to access
8 go find the file and double click it. Confirm that you want to add it to the registry
9 restart the computer and see if you can wake the system from standby mode

  • Should I use the Filter SmartScreen with MSE (with enabled real-time mode) together?

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials in the real-time mode, however, I wonder if it's enough. I have also enabled the smartscreen filter or MSE already covers who?

I have both, would allow unless it makes your computer run slowly. In this case, just activate time mode real MSE.

    -My opinion-
You must upgrade your browser to Google Chrome and install Comodo Internet Security. Better security and performance for your PC :D
  • Tecra 8100, upgrading the BIOS, whitch that hard drive is taken in charge (40 GB)?

    Hallo,

I have an old Tecra 8100 one I want to update BIOS. Who knows who is supported (20 GB, 40 GB) hard drive and where can I find the specifications?

    Thanks for your information.

    Georg

    Hello

As I m wrong not the Tecra 8100 does support an IDE HDD controller.
In this case, it should be possible to use the 2.5 IDE HDD.

I can't say much about the formats supported, but the fact is that the size of HDD supported depends on the HARD disk controller. The old controllers IDE up to what the ATA - 5 (also called Ultra ATA/66 or Ultra DMA/66) supported LBA 28 bits, which allows you to use the 120 GB HARD drive max.

Since ATA - 6 (also called Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100), you can use IDE hard drives of more than 128GB.

So if you want to, you can check your IDE HDD controller using a hardware diagnostic tool (IE Everest home edition). Then you might find out what IDE controller is and what drives are supported.

    See you soon

  • Satellite A100: How do I enable SATA NATIVE mode

Hello, my laptop Satellite A100 PSAA9 and the southbridge is an ICH7M
I put an SSD in my laptop and the drive controller is locked-> Ultra DMA 6 IDE compatible mode.
I would switch to the native SATA-1 to increase the bandwidth (from 110 MB/s-150), but I can't find any setting so that, in the last BIOS 6.00

I think that maybe in the past, Toshiba has enable this feature, but I suppose they might have turned it off for beginners who don't know how to install the SATA drivers during the installation of Windows.

I found Toshiba BIOS database, but it is locked by a password.
I'm willing to test any BIOS that could re - enable native SATA mode

    Hello

You need the native SATA controller?

The laptop was equipped with a controller SATA interface supports the Serial ATA Rev. 1. 0a.

Some laptop models take a BIOS that contains a SATA mode option.
This option can be changed on AHCI or in compatibility mode.

But as far as I know a100 BIOS does not contain these settings

    Hello

I suggest to reset the default settings to default and check for the issue.

You may also contact the manufacturer of your BIOS to change these settings.

Important note: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Hi Peter

It is possible to put the flight to be mirrored between the devices, but the same does not apply to get off airplane Mode, that needs to be done separately on each.

To change the setting for mirroring of the turn on airplane mode:

-On your iPhone, in the application of Eve, go to: Watch My > General > airplane Mode - enable or disable the iPhone, to choose mirror.

When the watch is in Airplane Mode, Bluetooth and Wi - Fi turned off, so there is no way for it to receive additional instructions from your iPhone (including a statement to exit the airplane Mode when the mode on your iPhone).

To turn off the airplane on your watch Mode:

-When you view the time on your watch, drag to the top of the lower edge of the watch face > drag left/right to the gaze of settings > press airplane Mode to turn off the mode > slide down on the screen to exit the looks.
