The maximum size of the LUN and VMDK disks

Hello

What is the maximum size of a LUN I can introduce to Virtual Center.  What is the disk vmdk maximum size that I can use in a Virtual Machine?

I use vSphere 4.1 and Virtual Center 4.1.

Thank you.

Kevan

the answer to both is 2 TB minus 512bytes

Hi there, I need to change the policy of storage on a cluster with a value of virtual machines. I have follow-up vSphere PowerCLI 5.8 PAF Walkthrough (part 1): Introduction | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs, specifically, run this:

    Get-Cluster "mycluster | Get - VM "myvm.local" | Game-SpbmEntityConfiguration - StoragePolicy 'VSAN-FTT = 1 ".

This applies to the new political profile is stored in the folder 'home' of the virtual machine, but do not know the VMDK, where the virtual machine is not consistent with the policy. How can I do so that it changes the policy I'm specifying the House and all the vmdk on the virtual machine.

    Thanks in advance,

You must define the strategy of storage on hard drives as well as in an additional command, for example:

    $vm = get-Cluster "mycluster | Get - VM "myvm.local."

    $hd = get-disk hard - VM $vm

    $vm | Game-SpbmEntityConfiguration - StoragePolicy 'VSAN-FTT = 1 ".

    $hd | Game-SpbmEntityConfiguration - StoragePolicy 'VSAN-FTT = 1 ".

  • Thin Provisioning LUNS and virtual disks

    Hi all

I recently came across a problem with our VMware View environment, where in vCenter about 20 of our virtual office message that there is no more space left. When I looked at the data warehouses that store with my clones related, they have both said more than 200 GB of free space.

In an attempt to clarify the environment, but do not go off-topic, some of our pools view are configured to give each virtual desktop a disposable disc service end of 4 GB (Temp and swap files). I noticed that in vCenter, the question asked to VMware for more memory space pointed to these disposable disks.

I was with the support of a few hours... on the side of EMC Clarion, LUN (which are thin provisioned) also showed full... but VMware support was able to create a 1 GB file on the data store that was full according to the Clarion.

We sent EMC our papers and they were back and just said the table is fine, the LUN was out of space... but this does not explain to me why vSphere showed the LUN as having 200 GB free. EMC said they did not know and I need to talk with VMware. I'm confused, if the LUN was not always full, how we were able to create the 1 GB file on the data store?

Curiously, all the desktop computers that do not have the disk of 4 GB disposable were very well... they had no problem. I'm almost thinking, perhaps disposable disc was full of temp and file exchange and that where this problem started, but I can't seem to be able to confirm that the 4 GB.

Another thing is, began to be blocked on this data store, even if these virtual desktops, have been removed from the files. I'm unable to delete records in the data store. I know that I can restart the hosts to unlock, but let's just delete this store of data/lun individual completely.

I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems or has any advice?

    Mike

Teas because there are 2 parts of the area of thin provisioning.

When you create a thin LUN on the side of the table, regardless of the size, it only * affects * about 1 GB (for Clariion).  Like many parts of this LUN if written, it allocates more.

Now when you create an om VMFS file, unless you use eagerzeroedthick (which you're not), there still, not all these data in a 1 GB (10GB or other) is actually hit or written to the creation time.  Thus, the table side only sees (for example) hit 16 MB.  Now to delete some files on the side of VMFS.  The table does not know that those "affected" blocks are now free (because VMware doesn't have the ability to communicate that back to the table), so it independently as always in use.  As a result, you end up with a shift of how is used according to the table, and the file system.

So now consider a 500 GB LUN, who think that the painting is "full", but said VMFS has 200 GB of free.  That 200 GB was probably written at a time in its history, then deleted.  Thus, full to the table, but not the file system.  When you create small files, VMFS is overwhelming the space previously used, which the Board considers acceptable, but as soon as you try to use the space that is not be 'recycled', it barfs, because its out of space on the backend.

  • Maximum size of SD card and HDD in Tecra 9100

    Hello

What is the biggest size SD card and HARD drive in a Toshiba Tecra 9100?

My largest SD card has 512 MB and works very well. Can I use 2GB or 4 GB SD - Cards?
My HARD drive is 160 GB and works. We may also use the 250 GB HARD drive?

    Best regards

    Wolly

    Hello

The Tecra 9100 is an older laptop. I think that it s 6-old.
As far as I know 6 years ago you didn t find the cards of 2 GB or 4 GB SD so it's not easy to tell if the slot will handle these large sd cards.
The user manual only says that you can use SD cards of 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB and 128 MB.
You have only one chance to see if a larger SD card would work. You must test it simply. ;)

  • Different capacities in the management of the MBR and GPT disks

    Hello

Disk management capacity will be change according to the type of partition.

    2 TB; MBR = GB 1863,02 ; TPG = GB 1862,89
When using 1 TB of HARD drive. MBR = GB 931,54 ; TPG 931,42 GB
For example, GPT and MBR will be shown a different ability in disk management.

Can I know why this happens?
    How calculated for GPT?

  • resize the disk/diskgroup LUN and asm

    Happy new year to all.

I have a little problem of resizing an ASM diskgroup and maybe someone here can help me.

I had a lun with size 50G and added on a disk called LUN1D1 asm.
Then I created a DISKGROUP called data1 Witch (external) contain some LUN1D1.
Data1 is then conducted asm volume. So I have a volume of asm with size 50G and I need 100 g.

Now, I have increased the size of the lun with 50 G (100G in total). I rescaned the LUN and os see the new size.

The problem is that I can't resize DISKGROUP data1 or disk LUN1D1.

  • Can I run the Mavericks and Snow Leopard on my MacBook?

I have a mid-2009 MacBookPro (4 GB of RAM, 2.26 GHz) running Mavericks 10.9.5. I wish I never upgraded to Snow Leopard and was planning go back from iTunes (12.3.1) is now unable to find my library when I copied the files to my Time Capsule to a new HD post with the intention that the HD Ext. would be the new home for my iTunes library. I researched how to change the location of the library and followed the instructions but no luck. Many people, including my local tech, have suggested that this is because the Mavericks and editions of the latter to iTunes doesn't play well with my old MacBook and it has been suggested that I come back to Snow Leopard. I'm ready, but use the latest version of Aperture requiring (3.5.1) of the Mavericks, and given that Apple no longer supports opening there is no way to get 3.2.4, which is the last version that can run on Snow Leopard.

I'd be able to keep the Mavericks and use it only if you use Aperture while being able to install Snow Leopard, and use it for everything? My MacBook seems better to work on Snow Leopard but opening works well on the Mavericks.

I suppose that if I went down to iTunes 10.7 it would automatically get upgraded to the top without asking my permission, so there is no interest in any downgrades iTunes and it works on the Mavericks as a possible solution.

Boot from the DVD and use disk utility to create a new partition on the internal drive. Install Snow Leopard. You can then start in which operating system never sought.

    Hello.

PC my children of motherboard has failed. Fortunately, I was able to access all data at the old and copied disk on my machine. I need to replace the motherboard, processor, and memory. Everything works OK again.

Files in the library of my son were all in his record 'My images' which I have a copy. What is the best way to return without needing to import everything again. I have a copy of 'Lightroom Catalog.lrcat of 4' - I have a copy of the old complete folder.

Thank you so much for your help.

    Best regards

    Deon

If you keep the same structure of folders and files for the images it was, everything will work perfectly.

In fact, it is not so important when you put the catalog or images as long as you keep the structure of folder images even. If you change the absolute path to her allows images LR you remap him path and if the structure is still the same you only must remap the file in the foreground and the computer will find the rest...

  • Size of the LUN Max size minimum and maximum RDM?

The Maximums on 4.1 Configuration seems to have been a change in the size of the LUN max, of the strange 2 TB - 512 bytes to just 2 TB. Can anyone confirm that it is correct in 4.1? As I understand it in 4.0, if you got your logic unit number created to exactly 2 TB, you have lost about 500 GB of space (?).

It would be interesting to know if it is "fixed" in 4.1 and if only the use of 4.1 hosts then 2 TB LUNS could be created?

In addition, the maximum size of RDM always seems to be 2 TB - 512 bytes in 4.1. What is the reason for this kind of limit? If the guest operating system can accept more large drives of 2 TB, which need not enough?

    ricnob wrote:

Even on the store of NFS, the maximum size of virtual disk to a virtual machine will be 2 TB - 512 bytes?

Yes, there is a maximum specified for the virtual machine.

Would a connection iSCSI comments launched a LUN liked work of 2 TB (if the guest operating system can handle)?

Yes, it's a way to work around the limitation of current 2 TB - 512 bytes.

The information about this change in the passage of Q & A at the end of TA7121 - ' next generation VM Storage Solutions with API for integration (VAAI) Array vStorage "was held in San Francisco just a couple of weeks.

Interesting. Did you get any sense if this possible change should come an update for 4.0 - 4.1 or may appear in a future version, 4.5 or 5.0?

I will attend at Vmworld in Copenhagen in October, so maybe I should visit this session.

You know, I don't really have a strong impression be it on this issue.  My stomach seems to tell me that it will be in the next version of main product.  If I remember correctly, one of the presenters of the session was one of the engineers who worked initially make VMFS.  This session was really good, so I recommend anyway.
