The reactivation of product after system recovery key.

I have an old computer that was originally a XP Home Edition is installed. I have no original software for this computer. The hard drive was so much virus, I had to do a recovery of the system using a XP Media Center Edition(the only software I had). When I go back to the original Windows Product Key(which is still on the back of the tower), he says it is not valid. Probably because the original key is a home edition and installed new windows is that the media center edition. Is there anyway to validate my old key without having to buy a new one?

So it is quite a new HDD, reinstall XP Home do me any good?

Your first message said you have XP Media Center currently installed - if you need to reinstall XP Home because that's what the computer came with, and what about your product key.

In addition, the old product key will work little matter, as long as XP Home is installed?

Your XP Home key will work if XP Home is installed, but you may need to use the phone activation.

Also, where can I find an installation of XP Home disc/program.

You will need to contact the manufacturer of the computer.

  • can not update xp or IE after system recovery

I did a system restore on my computer XP 32 bit. I have not checked to see if he had 1 SP installed, but I had a disc for SP 2 and manually installed SP 3.
I can't install WIndows updates, due to the fact that I need of IE 7 or higher. IE 7 won't install because I guess he needs updates of some sort? How can I solve this problem?

I tried to install Service Pack 1, but it wouldn't work because I installed SP 3.

    Thank you for your help

    4. after recovery, your office is always show files that were there before the recovery?

Describe the very next step you take after you have completed the recovery. The files are still there, but some are missing such as 2007 Microsoft Office and other programs, but my documents are still there

This means that is non-destructive recovery of Compaq and have without doubt both times. I would say that a re - install destructive is in order and follow my previous instructions that were for a clean install. Note that this will destroy the data so if your data is important you must save it first, ideally twice in two separate devices. If you are worried about data loss, I suggest putting in the hands of a professional, but do not expect to take any responsibility for your data. If someone is able, they may not cover all the possibilities (e.g., disk failure) and we your data must be your responsibility.

In the light of your PC is one that may require the patch from HP/Compaq AMD I have revised my instructions for you below...

Print what you want from this Web site that you can access on the PC hit after the new installation. After the installation you're using IE6 that this site does not work with!

Get these downloads (click the link) and have them on a CD or a USB key (ignore warnings from Microsoft gives you need to be an IT pro or using Windows updates in place)

SP2 (only if your recovery is a "no service pack at all" XP or is a Media Center XP)

SP3 (only if your recovery is pre - SP3)

AMD patch (only if your recovery is pre - SP3)

IE8 (do not leave Microsoft direct you to a later version, IE8 is as good as it gets for XP)

Make sure you have your antivirus solutions and handy greater security as (CD/download).

    • Back up your data
    • Disconnect from the internet (remove the cable Ethernet or a wireless device?)
    • Disconnect all devices except the screen, keyboard and mouse.
    • Make the new facility (the driver installation should not be necessary for a resumption of Compaq)
    • Remove Norton (use the deletion tool that rocks of XP has suggested)
    • Install SP2 (only if there is no service pack at all after the recovery, or it is XP Media Center)
    • Install the patch from HP/Compaq AMD (if recovery is pre - SP3)
    • Install SP3 (if recovery is pre - SP3)
    • Install IE8
    • Install antivirus/security
    • To connect to the internet
    • Update antivirus/security
    • Windows Update
    • Install remaining desired hardware/software
    • Restore your data

Do not use Windows updates or driver "detectives" update/install drivers.

Do not try to use Windows Update, until SP3 is installed.

Do not install IE8 or any other software as long as you are at SP3.

Make sure to use restore points in case something goes 'shaped pear.

  • Can not download anything after system recovery

I had to do a recovery system Friday. Now, when I start the computer, I get a message "Already ongoing usage data". Data required by the center of HP are initiated by the administrator user on "YOUR-bla bla" (which, I guess it's the name of the administrator). You want to do here, close the other session?
After clicking to complete the other session, it is said: try to close the other session failed.
For this reason, I can't download drivers for anything. I tried to update 9 from Adobe and it fails immediately. I can't yet download Service Packs.

Any help would be appreciated. It seems that I need to turn off or restart the administrator, but I do not know how to do it. Anyone have a similar problem or knows what to do?

    Hi PaulFh,

What type of recovery system are you running? What are the exact error you are receiveing? You can also save all your data and perform a repair XP installation. See below on how to do this.

    1.

When the message Press any key to boot from the CD appears on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

    2.

When you see the message to install Windows XP nowand then press ENTER is displayed on the Welcome to the Setup screen, press ENTER.

    3.

Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

    4.

In the Windows XP licensing agreement, press F8 to accept the license agreement.

    5.

Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

    6.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

    I hope this helps!

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

  • Problems installing software hp after system recovery system

I just replaced the motherboard due to the failure in an hp g60. I tried using the recovery of the system since the partition and the computer reboots after about 20 seconds in the hp software installation process. Then the system recovery screen would jump upward to want to me again the whole process. After 3 times to do, I did a scan of seatools hard disk and it tested ok. Then I thought that maybe there was a file corrupted on the partition, so I ordered the hp recovery discs. I ran these discs today and I got almost 3 quarters thanks to the installation of the hp software when a screen poped and told him to end the windows session and the computer restarted again. When he started upward, poped system recovery window back up and asked me to do it again. I'm looking for any help/suggestions on this subject. Thank you.

    Hello

This could be the problem as HP recovery disks check for a "tattoo" on the bios to make sure that the operating system is installed on the machine, that it was intended.  One way to confirm this would be to install an OS on a retail disc - even if you don't activate - just to see if this will load ok.

    Best wishes

  • Installation of Windows Mail after system recovery

Hello. I need help to set up Windows Mail after a system recovery. I have Vista Home premium. My ISP is Comcast, so I have a Comcast email address. I did a full backup on an external HD before the resumption. I have not used Windows Mail since Jan. 27. Since then, I've been access my mail on the site Web of Comcast.

I need to know the correct sequence of steps to set up Windows mail. Is it to drag the contents of the folder from my outside to my computer? Do I need to configure the info from the first acct (pop etc.) before you transfer the contents of the folder? I want all my old mail book and the address in the new configuration. These seem to be backed up on my external.

Also once I'm set up should I expect to see all letters sent since Jan. 27? I don't mind what happens. I just want to know what to expect.

Thanks in advance for your help

First, set up your account in Windows Mail.   If you want messages that you see in Windows Mail to remain available in Comcast web messaging, configure the account to leave messages on the server. When you click send/receive , it will download all of the messages that are stored on your Comcast email server.

To import your old messages in Windows Mail, press ALT + F , click on import > Messages > Microsoft Windows Mail 7 > Next , find the mail backup folder and follow the instructions.  The old post will go into a folder called folder imported , and you can move it to other records there if you wish.

By default, Windows Mail saves its messages in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.  AppData is a hidden, so turn on the display of the hidden files and folders first.

To import your contacts, copy them to the contacts saved to the new folder.  By default, Windows Vista stores contacts in C:\Users\\Contacts.

Can clarify you what your question is? You describe a situation, but there doesn't seem to be a problem. • Windows calendar entries lost after system recovery

Yesterday, I had to do a full system recovery.  That in itself is not really a problem because I do a backup on a regular basis, and all the files have been restored, outside my Windows calendar entries.  I would have thought that they would be backed up with everything else.

The beckup settings are standard Windows backup settings.

If anyone has an idea where they can be restored from, it would be a great help.

Thahaseena thanks for your advice.  Unfortunately, the ics. file doesn't seem to be in windows backup, but I found a way to include this in the future.  I showed the steps for others who may encounter the same problem:

Click on a space vacuum calendar > file > Export > make sure that the file name is [your name] calendar > choose a folder you know is saved (e.g. Documents/General > save)

You should do whenever you perform some new entries, but this as an operation 'save', and export default to the location you have chosen, making it even faster.

The ics.file then I hope that automatically backs up your external storage next time you perform a backup.
