I know that my laptop is still running because the fans are still running and the lights on the front and on the keyboard are lit.   Firstly I find a windows command can tell you if you have something that prevents the mode 'sleep'. Run as administrator command window and use the command: powercfg-query.

  If you have my problem and SRVNET is active, you will see this:
