UCS 210 M2 RAID and VMWARE

Hello"

I have cisco UCS 210 M2 Server with 10 GB HD 140, I insert new HD and I have rebuilt the RAID, but when I installed Vmware 5.0 Server could not see the Vmware.

See the attached picture, what this message is relarted

    Hi all

We have a UCS 210 with a LSI MegaRAID 9261 - 8i 6G card.  There also have 4x146GB 6 GB SAS 15 K RPM HDD SFF.  It is configured with raid 6 with all 4 HDD in the virtual HD group.  It seems he gives me about 278 GB.  about half 4 x 146.  does that make sense for raid 6?

We have an another c220 with with raid 5 gives approximately 1.4 to 6x300HD.  (more than half).  RAID 5 is almost identical to raid 6 and gives less than raid 5 in size.  This is why it makes no sense for ucs210 with disk HARD 4 x 146.

    If anyone can clarify this?

    very much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Vijay

    Hi Vsaravanamuthu,

The values you get are expected, what you need to know is that for raid 5 you have a failure of the SINGLE player for the fault tolerance and RAID 6, you have TWO disks for fault tolerance. It would make sense that you see more large capacity of raid 5 to raid 6.   You can also find calculators of raid online that will give you and idea of the expected capacity of the raid volume (see below).

I would like to know if this helps and don't forget to note the answers useful.

  • UCS 210 - HDD not able to configure

    Hi all

I am faced with the question in UCS 210 Server. One of the hard drive no is not configured correctly because of this I am facing problem to configure the raid.

When I opened the Webbios I got the following error. Please suggest how to proceed further.

    Hello

This part of HARD drive RAID another array?

If you want to add the existing hard drive RAID 6 - Virtual Drive, then you must clear the foreign configuration and add it.

  • UCS C220 M3 raid 6

    Hello

I have a UCS C220 M3 server. with 8 drives in it. I will install only CUCM and unity on this server. (4K users).

The server comes without the RAID configuration.

Cisco recommends RAID 5. I hoped to use a RAID 6.
The space is reduced from 1.9 to 1.6.

Could there be any other problem when using RAID 6 on this server?

    Hi jcontreras,

You want to make sure you follow the recommendations of Cisco to continue to get the support of TAC in case you encounter any problems with your implementation.

Please take a look at the post below, see the first comment of Daniel Laden.

  • DS3300 Design - RAID and logical drive configuration

    Hello

I'm setting up a dual controller DS3300 with VMWare ESX 3.5 hosts x 2 connection using the iSCSI Software initiator.  I have a question about setting up the optimal training.  What I read I should set up several logical drives, and then assign each player owner of another favorite controller logic.  I have 12 300 GB drives, so I thought I would create a RAID5 11 with 1 spare drive Bay.  I would create logical units of 4 x size equal and each of the 4 controllers will then assign that traffic is spread in the controllers for optimal performance.

A1 and B2 to go to a different physical switch (vlan) and B1, A2 go to another.  Each ESX Server has 2 vswitches each with a single network adapter with each going to a different physical switch.

Can anyone tell if the RAID and the design logical drive is the best way to go for a flow optimal iSCSI?  I'm not asking about this type of raid to use - I don't need a raid 1/0 or a mixture of performance - I'm afraid only for best performance of iSCSI for RAID5.  Can I create several RAID5 arrays and logical drives or simply several logical drives?

    Thank you

    Ian

If you have 2 controllers in your storage space then the best config (with 12 disks) must be set up 2 bays of R5 - each of them has its owner controller.

Included logical readers will have the same owner under the parent array controller. Logical readers could be about 300-500 GB on the size. A big R5 isn't the best practice because of the likelihood of the failure of the double disc (for example during the time of reconstruction). A spare part is a must here.

On Esx site I would keep everything simple - 2 network cards, a vmkernel iscsi port. More complexity you will get no more flow (with storage).

Just for notice - DS3000 series gives quite more random ios on R10 in comparison to the R5.

  • What type of Raid and disk offline

    Hello world

    Thanks for reading this.

    I have a Dell Poweredge T6300 with a Perc H730.

    It has 8 drives 1 TB 7.2 k.

    It has a C drive and a D drive.

Looking at the Server Manager / file C and D Storage Services seem to be Raids but I'm not sure what kind.  One of the disks in the set of 4 seems to be flashing orange offline.

Server seems to work very well.

Seems that I can't find a way to check the type of Raid without stopping and running Perc H730 map (CTRL + R) software.

    Is this true?
I think I can hot swap according to the Type of Raid, and I believe that the hardware supports that.

I was wondering if I think in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi DLOJ333,

Did you mean you have a T630 instead of T6300 model?

You can install Open Manage Server Administrator, who will monitor your condition storage and server real-time hardware. Just make sure that you check to install Storage Administrator. This may require a reboot of the server for the registry and the service is running.

Additionally, make sure that you are running Windows Server.

  • R610 Perc 6 / i Can I have matrix Raid and independent labels?

My R610 with a Perc 6 / I can take 6 physical disks.  I want to create a raid 1 with the first two discs, then install 3 drive more that BONES can see and use in a storage space.  However, I can't figure out how.

I have my setting up a raid and windows installed and I have the other 3 drives inserted, but Windows does not see them.  Maybe that's not possible, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had any ideas on how to make this work.

    Thank you.

PERC 6 is not compatible no RAID, so if you want to use these disks separately, you must configure each as a single drive RAID 0.

  • Break the RAID and the displacement of the OS to a new hard drive

    Hello

I have a MSI GT683r laptop that is configured with two 500 GB Hdd that are configured in RAID 0. I wanted to disable Raid so I could separate my windows OS of my alternative OS on two different hard drives. Im a student, so I have lots of important programs and documents on my PC right now and I was wondering how can I mirror/clone/transfer my exisitng OS (as part of the RAID 0 stripe) and move it to a single hard drive. There are some caveats to this and how to go to that topic.
Thank you very much in advance

RAID 0 distributes all your files on both drives. Break the RAID and you have data or programs, not even a bootable OS. So you have to backup your data before breaking the RAID.

To preserve your current operating system and transfer it to one of your readers courses will require using a 3rd hard drive to clone the current operating system from before the breakup of the RAID, so that it can then be cloned to one of the original disks.

It will not be possible if you store more data on RAID 0, that can be accommodated on a single disc. With your drives, if your current RAID 0 (maximum 1 to) has more than 500 GB stored, this cannot settle on one of your hard drives of 500 GB.

  • VMware Fusion 7 and VMware Tools - leak memory in Debian comments

At some point during my updates from Mac OS X to Yosemite, VMware Fusion to 7.x and my Debian a guest to 8.0 "Jessie" on my 2012 Mackbook Pro, leaking memory of the Linux kernel is developed.  If I follow these steps, then I'd lose soon about 3 GB memory of the core area.

    1. Install Debian Jessie in a new machine virtual de VMware Fusion
    2. Install open-vm-tools or VMware Tools bundled.
    3. Perform an intensive IO as operation simply cat/dev/zero |-c 1000000000 head >/tmp/test.txt.
    4. Smem - wtk and see ~ 3 GB memory under the dynamics of the kernel memory, benefit.

I opened the 15709682007 assistance request and the representative said that they will fix the problem in a future release. In the meantime, I have what seems to be a workaround for someone else that is affected.  Basically, pulling packages from backports jessie seems to have solved the problem.  This is based on the comments added to open-vm-tools.

    1. Add the Debian repository -backports jessie in /etc/apt/sources.list
    2. sudo apt - get update; sudo apt - get install t Jessie-backports open-vm-tools-dkms open-vm-Tools-Office
    3. sudo apt - get - t jessie-backports dist-upgrade (install kernel 4.1)
    4. Restart comments

    A few quick thoughts:

    1. If you have several virtual machines (or other programs) running on your computer host and VMware Fusion detects that there is memory pressure on your host computer, it uses the "balloon" (vmw_balloon for the latest distributions of Linux) Guest pilot to fly some memory of the guest OS.  This memory "stolen" would appear as memory Dynamics non-cache kernel inside the guest.  Running "sudo rmmod vmw_balloon" should release all memory climbed to the guest OS.  Note that using the balloon driver generally improves the performance of the guest and host, despite the appearance of fear "used memory" inside the guest-"used memory" is just a thing of accounting that we had to use in order to change the priority of the memory between the host and the guest.  It is not "used" in the conventional sense of the term.

    2. I believe that recent versions of virtual hardware non-cache dynamic kernel allocate the necessary memory for SVGA and 3D features (display RAM, texture RAM, etc.).  Disable graphic 3D acceleration or by reducing the amount of graphics shared memory if you are using a new version of virtual hardware (both in the VM > settings... > display) might help.  Decommissioning of a virtual equipment as early (in the VM > settings... > compatibility) can also help.

    See you soon,.

  • Veeam and Vmware replication

    Hi guys

We are a data center that provides services with replication of Veeam, now a customer is thinking to reproduce their site but using Vmware replication...

you see nothing wrong with having two different products, reproducing in our Datacenter or say 1 vCenter?

Important Veeam replicates a group of virtual machines and Vmware replication will replicate another different group of virtual machines

    Thank you very much

    Hi Escapem2,

Yes, it should be possible. There is not no problem if you use two sellers for a data center or 1 VC from the point of view of replication. You'll have to make sure all the configuration requirements are met.

In the replication of VMware, you will need to install the unit of replication vSphre, Sami is managed based on using the web client. On the other hand, Veem replication has their console where you add your ESXi or VC.

Both these replication technologies are at VM level, there should be no problem until you choose a different set of virtual machines for setting replication job. (There will not be any conflict)

Prospect management VMware replication helps as it is managed by the same web client that manages the entire VMware infrastructure. But there will be a difference from the point of view feature set.

I suggest you first zoom before why customer wishes to go for VMware replication and make the right decision. But you can use the two together.

  • AW17 R2, support Raid and Tweeking OC.

    Hi guys

So, I had my R2 17 for about 1 month now, and I really miss support raid. because according to me, it's kind of waste that I have 4 x Crucial MX200 500 GB SSDs 2280 m2, in the laptop and I can't use them in raid.

None of you don't know if it will come a bios update on this? and the option in the bios for OCing?

A little *, dell has removed the option RAID and many other useful tips for this line Echo. When other computers laptops Alienware came with open bios.

    Thanks in advance

    Norway.

    Hello

Unfortunately. We have not received any news on an update of the Bios that make this possible. Maybe it's an option that we will be able to add in the future for the Bios, but as of now nothing has been confirmed.

  • Differences between POS and Vmware data recovery

Hi, I wonder if vSphere5.1 has changed the name of recovering data vmware VMware Data Protection (WTP).

I found that the download link illustrates the Vmware data recovery before vSphere5.0 and Vmware data protection after vSphere5.1.

I think the same goes for Vmware recvoery data POS, but I want to confirm here.

    Hello

You can find more information here: https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/vsphere/VMware-vSphere-Data-Protection-Product-FAQ.pdf

Replace protection data of vSphere VMware Data Recovery?

Yes. vSphere Data Protection replaces the legacy VMware

In vSphere data recovery function. vSphere Data Protection

provides equivalent to VMware Data Recovery scalability with

a stronger and more effective backup engine.

  • Can the ESXI 5.0 and Vmware View coexist on the same server blade

Hi team, sorry for the basic question, but can I install the ESXI and Vmware View on the same server?

    Kind regards

    Ismail

VMware view installs inside a server operating system and he can definitley be installed inside a server running on top of vSphere.

  • I am new to mac and vmware.  I can't figure out how to backup my quicken and quickbooks.

I have activated the mode of sharing folders on the virtual machine, but does not know how to back up quicken and quickbooks programs.  When I go to backup guests they ask the location of the disk I want to back up but I can't understand how to access the machine time or share files to box.  I'm not that computer, so that helps too.

I sympathize with you. I am new to MAC and VMWare Fusion myself. I have created a shared folder on my desttop called to speed up backups and backup files to save to this folder by using the change menu in the backup dialog box to identify the folder where I want to store the backup files. I also check the date added to each so I can keep a few identifiable backups separately for my record if they ever need.
