"Uneven" with HA/VMotion network configuration

We run a pretty boring diet and simple where all access layer switches (A, B, C, D) are layer 3 to the base, local access layer VLAN is not available everywhere.  So all the VMS devices we have each of our 4, the cable 5,0 esxi hosts with a trunk on each switch:

1 1 NIC - trunk to the switch "A".

2 1 NIC - safe for switch 'B '.

3 1 NIC - trunk to the C"" key.

4 1 NIC - trunk to the switch "D".

all 4 servers are in a cluster on HA (DRS off).  Everything works well and has been for about 9 months in this configuraiton.  We have now added switch 'e '.  The problem is that we cannot add network ports more guests to esxi 4.  What we thought to do was adding more ESXI hosts and wiring those to the 'E' switch and leaving one of the other four turns.  That leaves us with something like this:

1. ESXi to shared resources for pass the "A" "B" "C" and "D".

2. ESXi to shared resources for pass the "A" "B" "C" and "D".

3 ESXi to shared resources for pass the "A" "B" "C" and "D".

4 ESXi to shared resources for pass the "A" "B" "C" and "D".

5. ESXi to shared resources for pass the 'A' 'B' 'C' and 'E' (resources shared E instead of d)

6. ESXi to shared resources for pass the 'A' 'B' 'C' and 'E' (resources shared E instead of d)

I don't have a lot of computers on the switch 'E' which should be virtualized, so I don't want to lose a lot of money on vmware licenses and hardware resources.  However, these machines are begging to be virtualized and I can't move switch 'E' or change their IP address.

Is it possible to have all 6 ESXI hosts in the same cluster?  even if switching between ESXi hosts may not be symmetrical because 2 of them do not have the same network as the other 4 (or in another way, the other 4 do not have the same 2).  Is it possible to have a control over failover based on available on an ESXI host network?  In other words if I have a VM on ESXI 1 which must pass "D" it cannot fail to ESXI 5.6 because they have no switch "D." yet, a virtual machine on ESXI 5.6 can run out of 1,2,3 or 4 is on the switch 'A' 'B' or 'C '?

Thank you

Damon

With the help of rules of DRS to force your "E" and "D" VM VM to host correct is the only option that comes to mind, then.

  • Get WVC80N to work with my crazy network configuration

    Hi all

I come here with great hope and told me that I wouldn't be disappointed.

I have a small setup hardware multi (Airport express to Apple, Linksyss single router befsr41 wired, ports linksys switch 8).

So here's my setup as a Time Warner cable modem > BEFSR41 > Apple Airport Express the BEFSR41 is also used so I can reach my TV and decoder via the switch.

My airport express is used to connect my wireless laptop and I'm talking about the infamous WVC80N to Airport express.

My problem is that whenever I go through the guided installation, he finds the wireless but does not connect to configure the TZO account I (paid account) in the end.

I tried to ask the TZO people and they say that I need to talk to apple to port forwarding... I can't seem to find how carry forward in the Airport express.

To set up the camera I plugged on the switch that is connected to the BEFSR41.

All in all the Airport express receives its ip address of BEFSR41 (each single device is BEFSR41 ip, I think)

So, how can I get the camera to talk to airport express...

If this configuration is confusing you I ask for apology, and I'd better explain.

    Thanks in advance.

You want to reconfigure the WVC80N so connect the camera with the BEFSR41 and open the BEFSR41 configuration page and click on the status tab, there you will be able to see a sub-tab "Local network"click on that and then click on the button"client DHCP table" here in this chart you will be able to see the IP address of the camera...

Then open the camera with this IP address configuration page... Do the settings on the camera as on the Airport express wireless and static IP address according to the BFSR41...

Open the page of configuration of the camera again with the new IP address and then provide TZO account information and click "update now"... In addition to allowing the port number 1025...

After all of these settings, you must open the same port on the BEFSR41 router. You must open the port on the BEFSR41, as is the main router...

After making these settings you can use the camera remotely with the TZO account...

Try these settings certainly it will help you...

  • configuration of Teddies with FT / vMotion / management

In our vSphere planned implementation, we have 3 houses each with 8 natachasery. 2 natachasery will be used for virtual machines and 2 will be used for iSCSI.

My question is, what would be the preferred for the rest 4 natachasery?

I thought 2 for management, then the other 2 configured for FT and vMotion with explicit failover.

Is this reasonable, or is there a reason that FT should be kept on its own dedicated natachasery?

We cannot really be using FT initially, but the plan in the future and want to make sure that the configuration is in place from the beginning.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Nick

I've seen people isolate FT in their own dedicated vSwitch or with two dedicated and isolated natachasery.  In general, I think it makes sense if we're a bit heavy mix FT and VMotion.  If you don't have a lot of use FT/VMotion, I think it's good to combine FT and VMotion on the same two network cards.  FT generates a lot of traffic on these network cards and if you combine that with heavy VMotion activities, it may be difficult for the two virtual machines stay hand in the.

I could go with your proposed configuration and see if it meets your needs.  If not you could always reassign your network cards and combine management of virtual machines (or something similar) to release the natachasery.  But I think you'll be fine with your proposed solution.

  • VSPHERE 5.5 REBOOT COPYIED VM WITH BAD NETWORK CONFIGURATION

    Hello

I have 2 host esx with the internal data store.

    I have a 3rd server with vsphere 5.5.

I am writing a CLI power script to copy the virtual machine from one host to another host.

It is to make a backup of my vm so the host to crash and restart quickly my vms.

My script is ok. The copy is ok I see my backup on the second ESX VM.

But when I start the VM on the ESX backup, the network of my VM configuration is lost.

I have to reconfigure my network card IP address.

I create the same virtual switch on my host 2.

I have the same number of network cards.

How can I keep my network configuration?

    Thanks for the replies

This can happen because the MAC address has changed since the virtual machine has been moved from one host to another, and if the host is not managed by vCenter, each use of the hosts a range of particular MAC addresses... and a workaround is try to use static MAC address.

  • vMotion network clarification

Say, I activated vMotion on the management network and a more vMotion (dedicated) as well. What NETWORK card will be used for vMotion if MultiNIC is not configured? As management network must handle the rest of the network traffic, it is the only reason the management network is not recommended for vMotion?

    Hello

Take a look at article francs on this piece

    http://frankdenneman.nl/2013/02/07/why-is-VMotion-using-the-management-network-instead-of-the-VMotion-network/

    in particular:

"If the host is configured with a Multi-NIC vMotion configuration using the same subnet as the management network / 1 VMkernel NIC, then vMotion respects the vMotion configuration and only sends traffic through active vMotion VMkernel network adapters."

  • VMotion network interface

    Hello
We have a basic configuration of the two physical servers ESXi 4.1, both with two network adapters.

Map 1 which I configured to attach to our normal local area network with a group of VMkernal ports with only 'traffic management' enabled.

Map 2 I configured it to use a private vlan, with a group of VMkernal ports with active "vMotion" and "Fault Tolerance".

I can ping through the VLAN that is private between the two servers.

I expect ESX to use this vlan private when moving virtual machines between two servers, but I look at the statistics of network performance using the LAN interface.

    Is this expected behavior?

    Concerning
    Chris

    Welcome to the community,

What are you doing exactly? vMotion is the process of moving only the workload of the server to another host, leaving the virtual disks in place on the shared storage. If you're cold, VM migration (movement of the virtual disks) it will use the management network.

  • ESXi 4 - nic network configuration

    Hello

I was wondering if I could get some tips here...

We are currently in the early stages of planning our move to esx esxi and I am struggling a bit with the network configuration.

I want to have failover and and teaming and whatnot, but I only have 4 cards to play with...

    Here's what I need

    The VM network

    Management network

    vMotion Network

    iSCSI network

ISCSI does not need to have 2 network cards since it hosts only some backups and the replica of our production network, but if possible, it would be nice...

I don't know if you still need to have a management network separated with esxi or not, because this is no longer a service console and is a vmkernel interface...

    We currently have with esx

2 network cards for the network of the virtual machine and management

    1 card network for vmotion

    1 NIC for iscsi

Don't know if I should just emulate that or not...?  Can I put vmotion and iscsi on the same group of network cards and have each other the failover to the other NIC...?

Any help would be great!  Thank you...

Yes, that's all.  You assign an IP address to each VMkernel port.  When you do so, ignore the default gateway field.  You can have a gateway and it will show the gateway you have chosen on the management port.

  • HA Network Configuration

    Hello

I am currently creating a HA cluser and I was wondering what the network configuration must be for HA to work.

What network HA uses to monitor hosts and migrate virtual machines, it is the management of the port network, where redundancy or it will use a dedicated port vmkernal configured for vMotion?

And if I need redundant Vmkernel ports for management traffic, I can make several local networks (Layer 2) VIRTUAL, no IP address or Layer 3 configuration? I think I know the answer to that, but thought I should ask.

ESX uses service console connection - ESXi uses the vmkernels with a check mark in "network management".

I'm not sure that understand your second question.

  • VMotion network

    Hello!

I have a cluster of 4 servers; I don't have a GigaBit switch (this is just 100 MB)...

Can I use 6 NICs for each server. I want the network redundancy.

Until yesterday, I had 2 servers in the cluster, and I used 2 network cards to connect the servers by a couple to cross the cables. With the virtual switch connected to the team of these two network cards I put in place an internal network and the network of vmotion.

What is the best way to implement vmotion network in the new configuration with 4 servers? (I know that it would be best to buy a GigaBit switch, but it is not possible at the present time...)

I can implement several networks of "point to point" vmotion each between 2 servers?

Any help will be really aprecicated!

    Filippo

I believe that the best practice is to have the VMotion network, share the same NIC 2 as your service console, but do them using NIC primary opposite, with one for failover.

vSwitch0 will be groups of ports for the "Service Console" and "VMotion". Assign 2 of your network cards to the vswitch. Then for the Port Console of Service Group, assign 1 active network adapter, and the other in standby mode. Assign the nic opposed to active on the port VMotion group and use the rest of your network for traffic of comment cards.

  • Tips to add a VPN router to my current network configuration

    Dear all

My apologies if the answer to this question already exists, however, I searched in many situations and none seem to match what I'm after.

I currently have an ISP modem/router in Bridge mode connected to a TC of Apple which is my wireless router, I have 2 Express airport connected to this acting as the extensors of the range.  I have a VPN service through the MyPrivate network I activate on the desired device when required and everything works fine.

What I want to do now is to be able to use my AppleTV and burning Amazon via the VPN as well so you need to add a VPN router in the configuration.  I want to finish with 2 wireless networks running together for these devices who need VPN and those who are not.  I don't want to lose the opportunity to extend the network to express it however airport.

If someone could explain to me if this is possible and if so how do I set up the network.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

Basically you would need a device that supports VPN-passthrough and VLANS for your goals of networking. MyPrivate network, seems to be a VPN SSL, which is a user-server configuration. In other words, you install a client VPN on your Mac and you connect to the VPN network MyPrivate server to establish a VPN tunnel.

Networking two or more "separated", should be using a router that supports VLAN services. Each segment of VIRTUAL local area network, in essence, would be a separate, she either wired or wireless network or a combination of both. This would probably be the 'easiest' part for the installation program.

Now how combining the two would be the question, and I don't know what would be the best way, or even if it is possible.

    A few thoughts:

    • Use a router that supports VLANS. Create at least two VIRTUAL LAN segments. One for Apple TV & Burns, one for Internet access in general. Connect the device to VPN client host on the first segment, and configure for Internet sharing.
    • Download a dedicated VPN network application that supports hosting of third-party VPN clients, like yours. You would still need a router that supports VLAN to provided separate network segments.
    • Hire a consultant network. Let them know what you the goals of networking and ask them to offer potential solutions.
  • Every few minutes, the message "the network seems to be down. Is the network configured correctly? »

When you play Pandora, every few minutes, the message "the network seems to be down. Is the network configured correctly? "is displayed. I click OK and Pandora continues. Network connection diagnostic report no problem. I have the BDP-S390 and a cable network.

    Hello Thomas,.

Also, try using a different Ethernet cable or try to connect the player to another router's Ethernet port. He may be a problem with the Ethernet cable taking Ethernet to the router/player.

Make sure that the Internet speed is 2.5 Mbps for SD videos streaming and 10 Mbps for streaming HD videos.

  • DeskJet 1000 c: Complications with Vista in network printing

I'm having some trouble with my DeskJet 1000 c on my home office network. It is currently connected to a PC running Vista Home Premium 32 - bit edition, with a parallel cable. It prints very well on the local computer and also of my MacBook Pro via the network when I boot into Windows XP Professional 32-bit. The problem comes when I try to print over the network from a PC running Vista Home Premium 64 - bit edition. When I do that, work quickly appears and disappears from the queue of the host machine. the printer keeps a piece of paper and wait with power light flashes but will not do anything else until another job is sent or the power is off. At this point, the tip sheet of paper is ejected and the printer supports future work of printer. If it's a local job or one of XP, it allows to print; If it's a network of Vista 64 work he advances another sheet of paper and wait.

I have a topic on the forum of Microsoft on the same problem:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistanetworking/thread/ead5a88d-34ab-4e99-AE45-f7d151ae2e6e

They seem to think that it is a driver issue, but I find a little strange that the driver supplied with Windows would work on 32-bit editions, but not 64-bit.

I'm also looking for a printer driver that works with Mac OS X; He was not the one included with Gimp-print, and is available for download from the HP Support site seems to be only in a local printer, not one on a network. I tried to add a 'Generic' printer, but I know not (doubt) if the DeskJet 1000 c printer supports PostScript. When you print using the 'Generic' driver, the print job appears and disappears from the queue of the host machine, but the printer does nothing.

I would like to point out that my printer/network configuration type of disorder; I have 3 dekstops and 3 printers (one connected to each desktop) plus a laptop. All computers can print to the other two printers on the network (HP PSC 500 and Xerox Phaser 6100) very well. The only problem seems to be with the DeskJet 1000 C printer.

I appreciate any assistance granted; I was generally very happy with printers HP and their support of pilot over the years. I guess that the support for this one is not as strong, because it is so old and probably not as popular as the other models because it is a printer large format.

There is a patch that solves the problem available here.

  • HP Envy 5540: Printer Hp Envy 5540 randomly printed the Network Configuration Page

    Hello!

I bought this printer about a month ago. Set up the connection to the printer wireless with my wifi, and my understanding is that the printer is protected like my wifi and use the same password in order to print something. I kept my printer connected and 'standby mode' since I put in place. The night last at about 23:00 when I was in bed, the printer turned on randomly and printed a "wireless network configuration page" that has had a lot of information, including the IP address and listing my name wifi as well as the names of my neighbors wifi in the surrounding apartments.

I'm trying to understand why this printed, because I certainly did not do. Anyone have access to my wifi, or has someone may simply try to print something and selected my printer as it should appear on the "list available connections on the computer of anyone, given that the printer is turned on? How could they print this sheet of network configuration if my printer is password protected?

I'm mostly concerned about someone who has access to my internet if they could print this page somehow, but maybe it happened just when they tried to connect to it, and it did not work while trying to fix MY printer?

I would appreciate any idea on the issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi @printerprob5540,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I saw your post on how your HP Envy 5540 randomly print a Network Configuration Page. I'm happy to help with this problem!

I find it very strange considering the only way to print the Network Configuration Page, AFAIK, is with the following steps:

    • Make sure that there are size A4 or US Letter, unused, plain paper in the feeder.
    • On the printer Panel, drag the screen to the left and then press Setup.
    • Touch tools.
    • Drag upward on the screen and then tap Network Configuration report.
    • A Network Configuration Page prints up to three pages of information.

    original title: grafting the internet

    Hi Maureen,

That your router has security enabled protection?  My guess is it doesn't and it's the way that person uses your wireless connection (like someone to visit with a laptop you could if you configure).

As a general rule, access to the router is by typing http://192.168.1.1 (or whatever your gateway address) in the address bar of your browser and you will be able to bring up the router configuration settings.  He'll probably want a username and password.  Sorry, I can't help you there because I have no idea what it could be.  Try admin/admin or admin/password or administrator/administrator or administrator/password or admin and no password or admin and no password (the classic default settings).  Your ISP or service of technical assistance of the manufacturer of the router may be able to help put this in place.  After that, how configure security entirely depends on the ISP, the router, the type of operating system you have, the type of internet connection you have and a number of other factors that I have no way to know, even if you told me that information.

In fact, to see if this applies even, go to the Network Center and sharing, and click on manage wireless connections.  Select and double click on your network.  Click the Security tab and see if it is configured with the entries in the drop boxes first two points in the key with a password applies.  If it does not exist, then there is no security on your wireless router.  If there is, then your network is secure without doubt.

When you see the active connection, click on start / all programs / accessories / and double click on Control Panel.  Type IPCONFIG/all and see if you can identify this other connection of the computer.  It should provide more information about it for the purpose of identification.

If your router is not secure, you must fix and this should solve the problem.  If your router is secure, you should change the password/key of the router to see if that solves the problem (and then you will need to change the key to all your wireless computers and devices to match the new).  If it still does not work, then come back and we will come with some other ideas (assuming that the manufacturer of access provider or router cannot help you with this).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
