Update April 30 = problems in Vista

Running Vista Home Premium SP1 (32-bit) and I've updated April 30 (including the update of IE 8), my computer because all kinds of jacked up...

  • Explorer insists on opening in a new window (even if I have the folder options configured to use the same window)
  • IE 8 refused to stop in the "guest" profile (I invited family and sometimes they use this computer)
  • Programs open slowly compared to before the updates
  • Games crash sometimes when passing areas (do not have this problem before updates)
Not sure if it's the update IE causing the problem or it updates to Vista (KB955430 and KB968220).  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello Drazzminius,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Since this problem you encounter began after that windows update, you can use the System Restore tool to return your computer to an earlier point in time. The tool using System Restore may not necessarily help you determine the problem. When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

Before you start Please back up your data

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

·         Click Start, type System Restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

·         In the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click on Next.

·         In the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

·         Click Finish.

·         The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

If it is an update, the best way to solve this problem is to apply only updates one at a time to determine which updates is causing this problem.

Click on start-> all programs -> Windows Update. Click change settings in the left menu. Select download updates but let me choose whether to install them, click OK. When you are alerted to install a new update, this window, click on view available updates, uncheck all updates and select one at a time, install it, restart your computer, test and update. Once you find the update either continue to ignore it, or look for it at http://support.microsoft.com/.

If please reply and let us know if your problem is resolved or if you need further assistance.

    Hello

    I have a Satellite Pro S200 and the same problem was with my camera. It s is not a hardware problem, it s more a driver related issue No. So, the best thing you can do is update your bios and keep your drivers up-to-date. Just check the download Drivers Toshiba site and make sure you have the latest drivers installed.

    I had resolved my stuttering (core2duo 2.33 Ghz, 2 GB RAM) by updating all drivers...

    That's all

    Thank you!  Matt

    Matt,

    The 8024200d result code indicates WU_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
    Update Manager did not install the update because it must be downloaded again.
    Suggest you download and Save the complete stand-alone package of Vista SP1.

    Links to the standalone versions are on this page because you validate that the edition of Vista is x 86 (32-bit) or x 64 (64-bit). You can see the architecture of the system of opening in the Panel and next to the search System system type: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)

    Before attempting to apply the SP1 please consider this information-

    If you choose to install Windows Vista SP1 via the standalone installer available on the Microsoft Download Center, Microsoft recommends that you first check Windows Update and install all drivers in option. Read the Articles in the Knowledge Base 948187 and 948343 for more information.

    Suggest you to create a folder on the root drive (the drive where Windows is installed, usually C:\) and name SP1.
    Move the downloaded Service Pack in the newly created folder.
    Disconnect all the devices, printer, external USB hard drive, etc.

    Then, Configure the system starts in a clean condition
    After you restart the worm as a clean boot, apply SP1.

  • Automatic update because of problems with the USB ports.

    After an automatic update this morning at 03:00 October 15, 2010 for windows vista, all my USB ports on my laptop have stopped working. Please advice all solutions to locate the update caused the problem.

    This must be a different problem from what I had so...

    In any case, I uninstalled all updates on vista (as opposed to other programs, office, outlook, etc.) and then reinstalled again and everything works fine now... go figure: /.

  • Problems installing Vista SP2

    OK, since the release of SP2 ive tried to install the Windows Vista Edition SP2 Home Premium x 86.

    Ive tried: [all this unsuccessfully]:

    -Installation in safe mode

    -Installation after removing my anti virus program.

    -Installation after you change ownership of all the contents of the C: drive to my account.

    -Install the standalone version, all languages

    -Install the standalone version, 5 languages

    - And things more...

    Some notes on my system important:

    -Its a preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium [do not know if it came with SP1] install on my laptop: Acer Aspire 7730 G-644G100MN.

    -As it was an English version of Windows Vista, when I arrived [which is weird, because I live in the Netherlands] I changed the language in Dutch using Vistalizator, the only program out there that allows you to change the language of your windows installation.

    -Windows Vista installs each update without any problems except for the SP2... I get the error message is: 0x800F0823

    -Some time ago I discovered something very strange in my laptop: the owner of the contents of the C: drive has not been saved to the Group administrators, but something else [he could not find the owner, something like that]. So I changed the property to my account [which caused some viruses to wake up, somewhat, but those that have been cleaned in place], which enabled me to access my program of all the files in the folders [which I couldn't do before, and that was the main reason I changed ownership: I was not able to run or install programs] really weird stuff]

    However today still sometimes the change of property to the non-administrateurs, which is really weird... And annoying, for example, yesterday I installed the game blur, but I wasn't able to run it because I was not allowed access to the game files, even if im an administrator!

    So I changed the owners once again, and then everything worked fine.

    -In addition, before I changed the property, I did a sfc/scannow, who found errors, but has not been able to correct.

    I guess that's about it.

    Please help me solve this problem!

    Kalaar,
    What you can try to do is to uninstall the pack of Vistalizator program\language.  Then run SFC again and if it can solve the problems, then try to reinstall SP2.  If SFC finds problems and can't always fix them after the Elimination of this program, then you need to reinstall Windows.  You can perform upgrade inplace or a clean install, and all updates, including SP2.  Thislink gives information on performing an inplace upgrade.

  • Update KB976002 connection problems

    Hello

    Update KB976002 itself automatically installed this morning and since then, my internet connection does not work. Under my network connections it says the cable is disconnected and no diagnosis actually recognize that the cable is connected.
    There is no problem with the hub or the cable itself I can plug in the cable to other devices and they connect very well.

    I did a restore system before the update was installed but it does not uninstall the update and the problem persists.
    Also for playback on this patch of the window that is supposed to pop up asking if I want to change browsers or anything that ever appeared after several reboots my system and the actual broswerchoice.exe is not responding if you try and run
    Among other things, I reinstalled my network card drivers and it also made no difference
    I'm running Vista Ultimate

    This happened once before, after an update, but, unlike this problem, he somehow set himself after that my computer has been restarted several times

    Thank you

    Problem solved, apparently. He just decided to work again. Strange...

  • Windows Update Causes startup problem

    I have an interesting problem with Windows Update (or apparently is from Windows Update). I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, if that info is needed. There are two updates I have not install, as I am not sure that is the cause. The updates in question are Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Defender definitions 1.63.604.0. Here's what's happening.

    When you restart after Windows updates, the computer starts with a black screen with a mouse pointer. That's all. Happened every time I tried to start after the pdates. I can reboot into SafeMode very well, is apparently a problem driver or update.

    I also installed DivX on the computer, but it seemed to work as I could watch .avi via WMP thereafter, so I excluded. I thought that if there was a problem with it, it would not have worked in the first place, but I thought it was interesting.

    In any case, the only solution I found doing a system restore and do not install updates day or DivX, since technically I don't know which is the cause. I had to restore the system 3 times already and I didn't continue to do because this computer was very expensive and I don't want to ruin the hardware or something.

    Someone knows something about an error with updates, or perhaps with DivX that may have caused this. The computer works fine without the updates or DivX, I just want to know what could be the real problem so if it is only one of the 3, I can install the other two at least.

    Change your update settings, install the updates one at a time, hide the problem:

    Click Start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
    See you soon.
    Hi Chris,
    1, the System Requirements Lab software is used to check a system configuration to see if some games have compatible hardware.
    For more information, refer to http://www.intel.com/support/siufaq.htm
    You can always reinstall this software and drivers required.
    No. 2 and 3 seems to be specific to the printer drivers not working not properly.
    You can follow these methods to check whether the problem is resolved.
    Method 1:
    Step 2: Update Windows.
    As you have just upgraded to Vista, there may be some Windows updates pending. Please refer to this article and install updates.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows-Vista/install-Windows-updates
    Step 2: Update printer drivers.
    You can visit the system manufacturers Web site and download and install the latest drivers for Windows Vista.
  • Update Manager - Installshield problem ' an error has occurred. Error code # 5'
    original title: Update Manager - Installshield problem
    I'm having a problem with the Update Manager.  An error code is always popping up "an error has occurred.  No. 5 error code.  It then returns me a website www.consumer.installshield.com for more information.  I can't figure out how to stop this.  Any suggestions?
    Hi Lindieonlyme,
    (1) since when are you facing this problem?
    (2) remember to make changes?
    (3) when exactly you get this error message? When you perform a specific activity or even when the computer is idle?
    Method 1: Put the computer to boot and then check if the problem persists
    Follow step 1 in the link below,
    How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.
    Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.
    After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.
    Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to a normal startup follow step 7 in the link.
    Method 2: You can see the steps outlined in the article below, which addresses the issue of InstallShield
    InstallShield error messages
  • Updated level InPlace or repair Vista installation
    I have various problems with Vista that I think started after installing IE8. I restored it to the oldest restore point, I had & got rid of IE8, but not all of my problems. I guess I have corrupted files. I ran scan disk & system file checker. I had problems with SP1 does not install year last & Microsoft had me do a upgrade inplace & got everthing goes again. When I try that now I get the error that installation is more recent that I am trying to install. I've gathered having SP1 SP2 & installed causes this. Microsoft has an installation disc I can get which has updates on it or I have to uninstall and start from there. I've read about vlite, but I think it is a bit much for me to 1 install. Thanks for any help.  Ron
    Microsoft does not provide you with the Vista DVD updated.
    You have a problem with Service Pack level.
    Read the info below:
    Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.
    If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
    You will need to exchange the disc for a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.
    On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk repair facility upgrade.
    Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have install.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/948537
    "How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs"
    If the OS installed Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 1 upgrade disk > uninstall SP2 installed operating system > install installation upgrade repair > reinstall SP2.
    And run the repair installation upgrade of a family race Premium.
    See you soon.
