Update is not recognize me as an administrator, the only account on my workstation.

After you install a router, I tried to enjoy - as advertised - the possibility to use the USB port on the router to share a printer between 2 computers.  I tried to put in place so that my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP workstation could share the printer.  I have had no touble with the installation of Windows 7, but I failed to get the XP machine by the same process.  I returned the connect to a printer on the XP machine - I have to have a printer on the desktop - and did my best to return all the default settings.  The machine XP now if not recognize me as an administrator, but tab automatic updates in the control panel is 'grayed out', something something said me 'Help' is average XP to tell me that I am not the administrator and, therefore, impossible to update Microsoft components.  I have to solve this problem.  I have Norton 360, but fear that connecting to the internet without updates Microsoft leaves me vulnerable to security threats.  What should I do to get the update recognize me as the administrator and I'd like to update?

Automatic updates can be disabled by group policy if you have Windows XP Pro.  You don't say if you have XP Home or XP Pro, but assuming you have XP Pro, check the following settings.

First of all, as an administrator, start the Group Policy Editor (to leave-> Run-> "gpedit.msc").  When the window appears, check the following settings:

"Windows automatic updates" in the path:
Configuration of the user-> administration-> system models

Also check the settings of the path:
Configuration of the computer-> Windows-> Windows Update components

If you have XP Home, some of these settings can be accessed in the registry.

  • Windows Update does not recognize that Windows Vista SP2 is NOT installed.

I have Windows Vista x 64 with SP1 and I defined updates on automatic.  However, it does recognize that the SP2 is not installed...  I'm afraid to try to install it manually after reading all the trouble with SP2 on this site.  Could you please tell me why the updates fails to recognize the SP2 is not installed and I have to do to solve it?  I'm not a master IT person, I just want my computer to be as up-to-date as possible.

Thanks for the advice and any help I can get.

    Hi Alamogordo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Windows forums!

Automatic updates would have tried to install sp2 and the installation was corrupt and failed.  So it will not try to reinstall. We have to uninstall sp2 to view update history and try to download and install manually.

    1. click on Start to type windows update in the start search box and click on enter

    2. click on view history of update and uninstall sp2 (kb948465)

    3. use the below given link to download sp2 (download to your desktop)

    4 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=891ab806-2431-4d00-afa3-99ff6f22448d & displaylang = in & displaylang = in

Follow these methods before installing sp2

    Method 1

Try to put your computer in clean boot mode and check if the problem persists. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. This article describes how to solve problems in Windows Vista or Windows 7 by performing a clean boot.

Steps to put your computer in a clean boot:

    1. click on Start
    2. type msconfig in the Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.

    1. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
    2. under Selective startup, clear the Load Startup items check box.
    3. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click disable all.
    4. click on OK.
    5. When you are prompted, click restart.

    Method 2

    Run the system update tool

System resources, such as file of data, even in the data memory and registry data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifecycle of the operating system. These contradictions may be caused by various hardware failures or can be caused by software problems. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows Service store, and they can cause software updates not do not work. The system update tool attempts to resolve these inconsistencies.

    3. click on the appropriate link, then run it on your computer.

    4. Once completed, try to install sp2 through automatic updates

    5. in the case of a failure to install manually

NOTE: TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER TO A NORMAL STARTUP AFTER TRYING THE STEPS ABOVE.

Click Start, in the search box to start, type msconfig and press ENTER.
Select Normal startup, and then press apply and OK

  • HP 15 r-031tu notebook AC do not recognize when, but battery when the costs

    Hello

I bought this HP 15 laptop r-031tu about a month ago and I have some very strange power problems:

    1 AC plugged in, with battery - battery recharges correctly when the laptop is turned off (LED: solid orange light), but doesn't recognize is no AC when the laptop is turned on (LED: solid white light). Status icon still shows just remaining battery power as if the AC isn't there (and not the "plugged in, not load" case);

2 AC connected, no battery - cell fuels

3 AC unplugged with battery - laptop runs correctly on the battery (no light).

Also, whenever I plug the AC with the laptop running on battery power, the display flashes and the HQ icon changes in "charge" for 1 second and then she goes back to battery mode.

I tried a lot of solutions found on the forum, including the update of the BIOS, hard closed, using other adapters etc but none of these solutions work.

  • Windows does not recognize a blank disc in the DVD player.

When you try to burn a CD and have a blank CD - R into the DVD player, I get 'Windows cannot read the disk in drive D ". I tried other discs and DVD, but it seems that Windows does not recognize a blank disc. I have another DVD drive and the same is true here as well.  I tried to update the drivers and deactivation and reactivation of readers but nothing is done. However, CDs or DVDs with the content are recognized.

I had the same problem on Windows 7 32-bit (suspect this fix as well under Vista). After trying everything under the Sun entered Services (search for programs and files, type 'Services') and looked "Shell Hardware Detection. Found that it was disabled (not sure how he got that way). Right-click on it to get the properties. Change startup type to "Automatic", press apply then OK. Problem solved without even having to restart!
