USB over IP Security

What are the security issues related to the USB over IP application?

Hello

Make sure that you put on the devices, where they are, etc. In general, you have any questions of USB over network.

If you use these, they go directly to a virtual machine, which means that the only thing you need to do in vSphere correctly route this traffic. I deal with their network as its own zone of confidence and limit the VMs can access this network.

    Hey there,

Yesterday I woke up and I started my laptop, and it gave me this error at startup:

0701 usb over current on hc port
I had the possibility to press f1 to continue and f12 to get into the bios.

When I press f1, that my laptop will not start, it brings me to the BIOS anyway. Then when I restart, the screen turns black and does nothing.
Now I does not solve the screen doing nothing problem by removing the battery and replacing the battery, but I still have these USB errors.

I also noticed that before that there is this problem, my laptop does not recognize a storage device, not even my blackberry. He acknowledged, however, my mouse and keyboard (since they are not storage devices).

    Hello

Believe me; I see this error message for the first time.
This certainly isn't a simple error due to software problem, but I think there might be something wrong with the hardware.

But before you contact the ASP in your country, you should check this:

If you are not able to boot in windows, so why you n t try to reinstall the operating system?
Try to boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD and check if it of possible to reinstall Windows.
In addition I recommend access to the BIOS and try to pass the default BIOS settings.

  • USB over IP and vMotion

Are there vMotion incompatibilities if I use a usb port on the IP solution, causing the vmotion to be stopped or my USB on the IP to be hindered solution?

    Hi StageCoach201110141

None. All connected client USB (USB over IP) must be connected to the virtual machine after vMotion.

There are a few caveats: If you vMotion your VM to a host with an old version of ESX (and hence, an older version of HW), then some features may be affected.

For example: If you have a USB 3.0 device, connected to a computer virtual from Windows 8 on ESX and your VM moves to an older version of ESX, which does not support virtual USB 3.0 controllers (as dictated by the HW version), then your USB device might not be usable in the comments.

  • Share USB over the internet using the E3000

I just bought an E3000 router, everything started installation and configuration USB share for my network. But how to share this USB on the Internet with the family etc. ??? I keep searching and searching and just can't find the answer. It's the ONLY reason I bought this specific model.

You are able to share the drive within the network?

Open the router configuration page and go to storage tab, click Activate the FTP server FTP server void tab and enable access to the Internet.

Now, go to the status tab and check the IP address of the Internet on the status page. Note the Internet IP address. Consider the Internet IP address X.X.X.X. . Open the Internet browser and in the address bar, type ftp://X.X.X.X .

Have you ever used an adapter USB-over-IP?

I have not personally, but there are a lot of messages in the ESX (VDI) forums on the use of adapters USB-over-IP for USB dongles license.  (ESX does support USB at all, hence the need for an adapter USB over IP.)  There was a post asking about the use of the adapter to a USB hard drive.  But since the passage of data of dongles is not a concern, there was a definitive answer as to how it would work for a hard drive.  But a scanner can be a feature of pretty low anyway.

The problem is the price.  From $ 300.  The most often suggested model is by DigiAnywhereUSB.

  • Put short current USB

When I plug an external device (interactive metronome - therapy neuro-cognitive/diagnostic tool) in Windows XP via Parallels, after some time (ranging from 2 ~ 30 min later) an error pop up message notification:

    USB over current notice

A USB device is currently developing too much power

The hub to which it is attached to will be de-acvitated

This never used to happen.  My guy at clevertech said its likely the logic board... other ideas?

I can work around this problem by clicking NO in the dialog box context-sensitive (to disable the USB port), restart app and re - plug in the USB...

    MacBookPro 15 "

    2.16 Ghz IntelCore 2 Duo

    4 MB L2

    2 GB Mem

    10.5.8

    Parallels v3.0

If you use a multiple plug bus-powered hub or no hub external at all, this can happen.

You can get a good self-powered hub to $20-ish at BestBuy - power AC gives power to USB devices and the MBP has only to provide communications.

  • Satellite C660D-178: ethernet on a usb Linux support does not work

    Hello

I found that none of the two usb ports can handle ethernet via the usb port. This is a usual Linux feature - when you connect two computers with a usb cable, it can function as a network interface.
Surprisingly, C660D-178 appears to be the very first machine, with that I found that it doesn't work.

    Why?

    No chance to activate?

    Thank you
    D.

    Hello

USB never tested and used by Ethernet but there is a tool called USB Over Ethernet
It s 15 days trial version and compatible with Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7

You can try to test this using a version of Windows in this case you can know if it s linux question or maybe this feature is not supported by the hardware

  • You are looking for a SIMPLE, EASY to USE, USB flash drive password protection

    Hello everyone,

I scoured the Internet looking for a SIMPLE, EASY to USE, method of Word to PASS-PROTECT my flash drives TOGETHER.  I don't mean something that protects just individual files & folders (such as MS Word, Excel & can do).  Or I'm looking for a program that involves having to read page after page of instructions on how to ENCRYPT the drive.  ENCRYPTION is a topic that is really beyond my ability to understand.  I'm sorry.

Programs like Truecrypt, Axcrypt, etc. are simply much too complicated for me to understand... a lot less!

My question: are there flash drives available (size 8-16 GB preferably) who have a means of securing the disk with a password?

The USB key remains in my USB port at ALL times!  I have no other computers here and live alone, so that no one else could access the flash player (or computer).  Otherwise, I would be willing to consider a VERY SIMPLE, EASY to UNDERSTAND AND USE application, either free or something that does not cost me dearly.  (I subsist on a limited monthly disability income).

Thank you for your time and any recommendations!

It seems that the solution for you would be to purchase a secure Flash drive.   Security is built-in and it asks for your password when you insert your disc into the computer.   Can't get much simpler than that.  They are a little more expensive, but you pay more for practical reasons.   See the following article:
    'USB Flash Drive Security '.
To find one, just Google for "Secure USB flash drive", there are a lot of them out there.

If you have a non-secure flash drive and do not want to replace, then your easiest option would be a program like Truecrypt which you already have reduced as being too complicated.  Don't let the word"encryption" you scared - it all comes down to "enter a password to access".»  Once established, however, it is almost as simple as only to enter a password so if you can find a computer or a local high school computer nerd literate member of the family who would volunteer to set up for you, then it wouldn't be that hard.

  • Windows Security Center does not illuminate

Just installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Security Center is in stop mode and running. Windows Firewall and microsoft defender both say they are on.

    Hi woodcockvet,

Do you have an error message when you enable Windows security Center?

Step 1: Run the fixit available in the article below and check if that makes a difference

You can't turn on Windows Firewall in the Security Center

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2271812

Step 2: Try to activate the Windows Security Center service and repair the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) database repository

You can follow the steps mentioned in the link below that relates to a similar question

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7security/thread/f6e51590-47b3-489F-9921-173d106a9738

Note: Some security software takes over Windows Security Center and uses its own Security Center.

  • Configure XP mode to link automatically USB devices?

Is it possible to configure XP mode to link automatically USB devices?

This is a real nuisance to have to manually set a usb scanner to scan in to an application that does not work on win7 naitively.
And it makes it impossible to deploy the application in a transparent mode, since the scanner is not attached if you try to run transparently without initiating 'Desktop' mode xp mode and manually attach the scanner first.

Hi all - I have a solution that works, the only problem is the cost.  USB over network Fabulatech.com, share the USB device using the server component (in the windows box 7) and install the client in the Virtual Machine XP Mode and it will automatically connect at startup of the machine.

If you need to share the USB device between the computer and the computer/application in XP Mode Windows 7, you can install the USB on the network client on the computer Windows 7 and settled on manual, in order to launch local applications with a CMD file that starts the network client USB key first before opening the application.  This way, the USB devices are available to any devices to connect to via USB on customer network.
