vCenter 6.0 5.5 upgrade installation simple and external PSC supported?

Hello people,

Everything I have read so far indicates that an upgrade to vCenter 5.5 simple installation on R2 W2K12 6.0 only supports a PSC facility incorporated during the upgrade.

See page 25 of the Upgrade Guide.

https://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-60/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-60-upgrade-guide.PDF

Notice also mentioned it here:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 2109772

Page 8 of the deployment guide mentions the same, embedded installation of MCS during the upgrade of a simple installation.

https://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/Techpaper/VMware-vCenter-Server6-deployment-guide.PDF

Just to confirm, is there a process taken support to upgrade a simple installation of vCenter 5.5 to 6.0 and the creation of a PSC external?

Thank you

romatlo

What is upgrade is, at present, there is no method of support available to achieve this goal.

    Two different questions, Stuart.

    1. by all means, it is certainly important to install SP3 and then install all updates of up-to-date security post-SP3. It's absolutely crucial to do this will greatly reduce you your chances of getting malware!

    2. However, the SP3 upgrade won't fix your lack of Internet connectivity. You have not provided enough information. We do not know how it is physically connected for example or what are the settings of your router. The most likely reason for what you describe is still, you forgot to install the drivers for your hardware! Once you do this, your Ethernet connection should work. (If not, then he is one of the other issues mentioned above.)

    So, here's your homework:

1 let us know the brand, model and model number of your old PC.

    2. tell us the method you to "reformat".

    3. go to the Device Manager and let us know of all the elements that have question marks next to them. There are several ways to do so. One way is to right click on desktop and select manage, then click on Device Manager.

    4. If you can do it yourself, visit the web site of the manufacturer of the PC to download the drivers you need to install later. If not, don't worry; We will help you.

    5. temporarily disable the automatic updates (using the control panel).

6 download the SP3 Setup file so that you can install it offline later:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24

7 download the IE8 Setup file so that you can install after installing SP3 also when you are offline:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Internet-Explorer/downloads/IE

    8. also, let us know what anti-virus program you plan to install. This installation file needs to be on hand as well. After the back if you want suggestions/advice. For now, I will recommend you avoid Norton and McAfee and use Avira AntiVir or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Once you have installed the necessary drivers, you will be able to physically disconnect from the Internet, install SP3, reboot, install IE8, restart TWICE, install your antivirus program, physically reconnect to the Internet, then download and install all post-SP3 security updates. To do this, go here:

    http://windowsupdate.Microsoft.com/

Note that some people have had problems with these updates lately. If this happens to you, too, you must first install the standalone Update Agent:

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Finally, turn on the automatic updates (in Control Panel).

(More involved than you thought it would be, huh?)

If you have systems configured with the host name, just change the DNS record and empty the DNS on the server. If you have everything configured with IPs, then try to re-pointing things according to this KB: VMware KB: re-score and the reinstatement of VMware vCenter Server 5.1 / 5.5 and components

For those who have encountered this problem in the future, was the way I solved this:

Question has been connected to the VMWare SysLog Collector Service. There is a problem with the new syslogcollection MSI being able to upgrade, uninstall or reinstall on the legacy.

Best way to solve this problem is to remove the reference to the old service of library of Windows Setup syslog collector. The way I did it was to use the Windows Installer CleanUp legacy.

Post this, remove installation held as scheduled and transmitted "installation VCSServiceManager.

If you come across this issue - you can test it by trying to run the msi syslogcollector contained in the directory of files binary vCenter.

  • vCenter 4.1 Update 1 upgrade of update 2

    Hey all,.

I'm stuck on something and need help. We have a vSphere 4.1 environment we need to spend 4.1 update 1 to 4.1 2. I've never done this before and I am struggling with the right way to do it. My understanding is that you need to update your server vCenter first, then update manager, you can use UNIFIED messaging to update ESXi hosts. I found a post that says that the only way to vCenter is to do a new install of update 4.1 2.

If this is correct, how can I do a fresh install of vCenter without losing all my configurations? I started the installer and can't me what database, I want to install (i.e. the SQL 2005 Express included or an existing DB). If I point to the DSN for my existing DB, it will overwrite the DB or whether it is sufficient to install the update and let the DB in place?

I guess that the same question would be relevant for UNIFIED messaging was updated as well.

Quick notes... I cloned times my App Server VM vCenter and the DB Server VM vCenter, well I prefer not to overwrite my primary. I'm on an isolated network, so I don't have access to the VMware patch repositories. And I can't jump to vSphere 5. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, first step is always venter with all components (VUM, converter, etc.), and after upgrading vCenter you can do the upgrade to ESXi via VUM

No, it wil not crush a DB, it will ask you whether you want to upgrade current DB

You want to perform the upgrade on isolated VM and move them later to PROD? I suggest to clone vCenter VM and VM DB first and update on the PROD not cloned servers.

  • Reinstalling Windows XP for Windows 7 upgrade installation

Note: Windows XP to Windows 7 help / help of recovery

I changed Windows XP to Windows 7. When I was on Windows XP I used conflicted software virus: Avast! and Norton. Finally this made me not be able to open anything, especially .exe.  I tried to do a system restore, but I couldn't go to the bar of programs in the start menu. After that, I thought it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 7 and eliminate these problems. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 just by putting in the disc, but it wouldn't load because of the previous problem. So, I put in the Windows XP disk and run Setup. When he arrived to the part when he says, "Windows Setup" it came with several errors saying that it could not find the files that should be on the disk. So, I pressed cancel and then turns off my computer. He tells me now when I go to the installation choose a place to put my new windows, and the only one there is C:. The problem is that there are already windows there. Remove the current patrician and then install it or install it even if it is already there. Remember, I want to just install Windows 7 once I get XP working.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

    Hey Nub-Sauce,

You can select the C: drive and try the install again. It will try to replace windows with the new installation of windows XP. Failure, then try to delete the current partition and try the install again.

Note: You may lose the data stored in the system after reinstall, repair, or upgrade Windows XP.

  • Is the installation of upgrade (DVD) depending on the language support?

    Hello

I live in Germany, but possess an English 10 PSE. I want to upgrade. Is language-dependent upgrade installation media? There are a lot of specific offers as 'English update' / 'upgrade German' in internet shops, but is - this correct? Or is the installation of upgrade multilingual DVD anyway and simply existing software is automatically entered?

    Kind regards

    Matchay

It is not a problem. Normally, you select your working language during installation.

Try to install CS 4 (upgrade installer) on a new install of Snow Leopard.  Installer looking for a prior registered product.  I had installed CS 4 years, when I had been using CS.  No longer have the installation of CS in place so the installer can not find.  And I can't seem to locate the original disks for CS.  In my view, need go back nearly 8 years, maybe more.  What can we do in this case to the Setup program install?  Thank you.

You must have installed the software or have the serial number of the previous version.  Although it is unlikely due to the age of the product, you can check your Adobe account online.

  • New installation Vsphere and vcenter

This may seem pretty basic but I have not met this before and Vsphere threw me for a loop with the license change.

I have a new installation, I train.  First question is ISCSI available with the license evaluation Mode?  It seems not so much me.

If not then the second issue is the lack of customer is a new domain active directory.   Can I install vcenter not part of a domain, active directory and make all licenses from there?

In my view, that the eval is fully functional. You must enable initiator iSCSI under storage adapters.

vCenter didn't need to be a member of the domain, and also in vsphere there is no license server as with 3.5

  • vCenter data recovery - is it upgrade for VCB

    Hello

I wonder if vCenter data recovery is an upgrade for existing ESX enterprise clients using VCB, or it is a new product which must be purchased?

    any ideas?

VMware data recovery is intended as a product recovery and backup of disk to disk for virtual machines.

The product is included in some editions of vSphere and downloadable and add-on for some of the other (for example standard).

  • Hi, upgrade installation support needed

    Hello

I bought an upgrade to adobe Illustrator. I have cs4. Instead of informing me of my mistake when I had trouble to install the first time (since I have no previous version), the support just made for me. Unfortunately its an old version and tech support is no longer available. I can't install it again because its an upgrade and I have no previous version. But technical support helped me once, perhaps this forum can help me once again. What lays in the balance is the 600 dollars I paid. Help, please! How can I install with no previous version upgrade? (and why not support tell me my error of purchase when I could still returned the product! jeeze).

No one here has the ability to override the tne installation requirements.  If you can't get Adobe support for help then it is probably not that you can do.  Your best chances are to convince a support person to help you... hopefuklly you registered the product as it is in your account history.

  • Help on vSphere 6 upgrade with a SSO strategy internal-> external PSC

I would ask an idea and help on what and how to revamp our vsphere infrastructure.

We have an environment that grow very fast in the last 2 years... from a Center unique vcenter/infrastructure for our server environment us growth data center 2 main + 1 small site with a 2nd arriving within a few months, and probably a good number of branches.

Our main data center 2 are configured with vCenter 3 5.5:

    (1) our main Server vCenter

    (2) our Horizon vCenter for VDI

    (3) a vCenter dedicated to a separate set of servers for a specific project

All the vCenter are now 5.5u2, but in the past our VDI vSphere still was 5.0, while the rest was upgaded to 5.1 and 5.5.

The 3) is an environment dedicated with some software/configuration that could conflict or be managed in a way different from our current infrastructure (this ban could remain in an earlier more time for example).

All these vCenter are configured with a SSO Multisite separated by the environment, so we have a Multisite SSO for server, 1 for VDI and 1 to 3).

Our vCenter have the PSO and all integrated services in the windows server and a database of separate SQL Server for each of them.

Verification of certain documents on the vSphere 6 that I noticed that it seems that we have a setup that has somehow changed and thinking about the future and the implementation of new products, I would like to understand how we could manage these infrastructure and how we can join it.

In this document http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2108548 it seems that manage sites that have integrated the PSC and vCenter Server on the same host is not a recommended way, thinking at least about our vCenter Server main (2 different in 2 sites) infrastructure, we must separate the PSC making external.

Should we move the SSO outside our 5.5 infrastructure server now before moving on to 6 so that we could improve PSC external SSO and just update our vCenter server or there's a way during the upgrade to the PSC on an external server (such as installing on a new server and migrate SSO to external PSC)?

Think in the future, we probably want to unify the PSC and use the same servers PSC (2 ha with a LB probably in each site). It is possible during the upgrade a server vcenter Server to migrate from the SSO server/PSC is using another?

If you want to go out of style incorporated into the external PSC; currently during the upgrade you can not change this IE if it integrated with 5.5 and then it will continue in embedded mode. Future update could be an option / tool to move to external embedded mode PSC post upgrade (this tool is nevertheless do you updated or not; deployment embedded 6.0 can be converted into vCenter pointing to external PSC).

From now on if you want to pass to the external PSC mode then to 5.5 installation embedded itself move first on external SSO. You can do this by installing separate SSO and re - point your existing inventory, webclient and VC than SSO service. Below KB provides details on the re-score-

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2033620

Once you are done with the re - verse you can start the upgrade with PSC external.

  • Single Sign-On sequence 5.1 to 5.5 upgrade (multisite mode and bound)

    Hello

I have trying to find SSO upgrade documentation that describes the options I have to choose for the following upgrade scenario:

    Before the upgrade to 5.5:

    • 2 x 5.1 vCentre servers (Windows 2K8R2) along with related modes.
    • Each vCentre has its own local SSO server that runs on the same server vCentre. Both have the same deployment ID.

My understanding of what the upgrade for authentication UNIQUE and related modes cannot function after update 5.5 should go as follows (obviously related modes has been removed before the upgrade):

    1. On the first SSO server. Switch from 5.1 to 5.5 using the MULTISITE option. (Web Client follow-up, inventory Service & Server vCentre).
    2. On the 2nd Server SSO. Switch from 5.1 to 5.5 using the MULTISITE option. (Web Client follow-up, inventory Service & Server vCentre).

The problem is the first SSO server when I select MULTISITE option on the next page, I get the details of the host partner and password I was do one of the following errors:

    1. Could not get the server certificate, or
    2. Unable to get the host name

And cannot proceed with the upgrade. The only option that works is the AUTONOMOUS vCENTRE SSO SERVER option which I think related modes don't work after upgrade.

Any help pointing me to a document that stresses the good options if bound mode is preserved after upgrade would be great.

    See you soon

You use the 2 vCenter 5.5 Update Setup or an older version? Because there are a few changes on the descriptions of the modes of deployments between vCenter 5.5 GA/starting at day 1 and 5.5 Update 2, take a look:

The deployment modes available for vCenter Single Sign-On are:

    For 5.5GA for vSphere vSphere 5.5 Update 1 b:

    • vCenter Single Sign-On for your first server vCenter Server
    • vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server into an existing site (formerly Cluster HA)
    • vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter server with a new site (formerly Multisite)

For vSphere 5.5 Update 2 and beyond:

    • SSO Server vCenter standalone
    • High availability
    • Multisite

For your first vCenter, you must select "vCenter Standalone single authentication server ' and the second 'Multisite' option, see this note:

Multisite | vSphere 5.5 Update 2 and beyond

This option installs a vCenter Single Sign-On additional server in a new site of logic. Single Sign-On Server vCenter are created using this option, they will all be members of the same domain of authentication vSphere.local. As an improvement on vSphere 5.1, provided Single Sign-On (policy, users of the solution/application, sources of identity) are now automatically replicated between each vCenter Server Single Sign-On in the same field of authentication vSphere.local 30 seconds. This mode should be used after the first Single Sign-On Server vCenter is deployed using the vCenter Single Sign-On for your first server vCenter Server or stand-alone vCenter Server SSO option, depending on your version of version 5.5 of vSphere .

For more information, see this KB article: VMware KB: vCenter Single Sign-On deployment for vSphere 5.5 modes
