Vista Home Premium hangs on restart only

I have checked the forums, but have not seen that a restart problem.  My stops work very well.  When I restart, the computer falls down ok but then I get a blank screen on reboot and absolutely no activity (e.g. flashing) to indicate the drive hard drive is accessed.  I saw a possible post but also has a "tip" that the answer was for a different version of the operating system.

I can not improve the system at this point because all restart just hangs.  I have a HP Pavilion model A1750Y.  I have a MyBook external drive attached through an USB key, however, I have had this unit for about a year with no problems.

I remember first meeting the problem during a windows update.  I turned off and did a restart and she came over and end update.  However, vista will not return to the top after a reboot.   Help!

From what you wrote that it is difficult to determine if it's definitely not go.

You say closures work very well; but start-ups are not (in the plural).

How do you stop somerthing which does not start properly (my work stops very well), other than by using a strong power down?

But then: then I get a white screen on reboot and absolutely no activity

He starts or try to start Windows. Do you get the windows loading screen?

Otherwise:

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

Check your Bios/Boot Order to make course Booting USB doesn't have somehow become activated as 1st in the boot order.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the foregoing is not
Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.
Restore point:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/
Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

  • Vista Home Premium hangs for internet browsing

    My Toshiba Satellite falls down while browsing using Internet Explorer 7, 8 and Firefox 3.5 and 3.6. The screen turns black with sometimes a blue bar downstairs, then restarts in 10 seconds approximately. At other times the pixels all scramble and the laptop freezes cause me to hard reboot. Toshiba had wipe me and reload the operating system and other software several times, and now say it is not the laptop, but the operating system.

    I tried disabling modules, returning on the older versions of web browsers, as well as to remove and reinstall them altogether. After losing today, the laptop has spent about an hour trying to solve the problem, said he could not and stop. Power on it again later enabled him to start correctly. I dump files and crashed, but Toshiba didn't want them and said to get it from Microsoft.

    Help, please.

    original title: Vista Home Premium hangs while browsing with Internet Explorer or Firefox

    I'm sorry, but not surprised to say that, in my view, that Toshiba is to give you the runaround. From your description, I would say it's a hardware problem, not a software problem. You have already restored to the State of the factory several times and the computer should work without problems after a factory restore. If the computer is still under warranty, insist that they take it back and replace hardware components. Your network card is the prime suspect, and since it is in any case on the motherboard, the motherboard should be replaced in this case.

    I want to emphasize that you should not take what I wrote as a definitive diagnosis. I can't see or test your computer from here. I give you my opinion on your computer based on my experience as a computer tech and what you have written. If the computer is no longer under warranty, take it to a local professional reputation (not a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad place) for diagnosis.

  • Vista Home premium erratic start/restart

    My wife has a touch screen of HP under Vista Home Premium.  The machine has a wireless internet connection, and often it does not recognize the connection on a cold, start although it will usually recognize on a subsequent reboot.  In addition, these past few weeks (since she loaded Explorer 9) we get a blue screen with the message BUGCODE USB DRIVER.  The only USB devices she has are his keyboard and wireless mouse.  In Device Manager, they are marked by the little exclamation point indicating a driver issue, but when you try to download the current driver, Windows says that the driver is fine.  And when you stop the machine and bring it up, the problem often - disappears until the next crash.  What gives?

    needs to run system restore and I usually have to put it to an earlier point in time. Specifically, lately there can also be problems of compatibility with endnote. Any help?

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-Vista/default.aspx

    Windows Vista Compatibility Center

    First thing to do is to check its Vista compatibility at the link above, and if not to see what patches/solutions are available from its manufacturer...

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-compatibility-mode/

    If this is not Vista compatible, read the info on the link above.
    It works for some programs, but not all.

    This applies to software programs, NOT hardware drivers.

    If it's Vista compatible > uninstall it > Re-download/save to your desktop > right click on the setup.exe

    O run as admin.

    Hello

    Program Windows Fax and Scan does not come with Windows Vista Home Premium. It is only available in Windows, ultimate & enterprise business. However, you can download & install any third-party fax software & also, you should have a modem to send the fax.

    Note:  Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

    Hi S RAGAN,

    I suggest to perform the clean boot on your computer and check.

    From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

    To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

    Please follow the system in the boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to an application or a service, we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to reactivate the disabled one by one element to find the culprit.

    If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

    I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.

    Is there a way to delete the records of 'detail' of only updates of failure or cancelled in the history of Windows Update?

    I just installed hotfix for Windows (KB947821).

    It looks like a lot of my earlier 'failed' and 'Cancelled' updates are automatically updated and installed, and successfully, I might add.

    Some dates in some records do not seem much sense. I guess I'm looking for a way to select the records, I want to get rid of.

    Help?

    Hi Jeffrey,.

    It's not really a taken way in charge to remove only the cancelled or failed updates. These are taken from windows logs and displayed in the history. Steps that Jose post is a way to remove all files in history and will remove all updates as well as a failed/cancelled updates successfully.
