Vista theme gone, maybe more - updated victory guilty or Remote Tech?

Hello

I'm pretty much exasperated, trying to keep the Vista desktop my elderly parents shaped. I'm leaving for two weeks only to find that MOM & dad were reported by AOL Help (paid account) to one of these technicians 24/7 in the Canada. Long story short: (1) the problem of email I solved it with a another representative of helpdesk weeks later was a simple solution to eliminate 80 + MB cache; I forced a reversal of the burden of VISA $200 technology unscrupulous company charged claim of virus/hacking on a perfectly good computer, despite all these false alerts & skull icon cross of bones that tend to intimidate gullible older users into submission; (2) removed my parents for paying AOL (and probably any AOL soon); (3) learned how parents EVER AGAIN FOR ALLOWING COMPUTER ACCESS DISTANT without consulting the family.

Well, before the rep at the '24/7' is agreed for a FULL refund (not an old $50 tax - HAH!) he asked remote access again - I refused on behalf of my parents. He then accompanied me through measures to remove a specific. DLL file that was still on the computer - his accent did not help the difficulties he had in explaining why it was necessary two weeks after the cleaning of the alleged virus/hack. I refused. Basically, the call ended there. FULL refund. YIPPEEE! All my files & folders parents seem to be in order, and I tried a couple of 'Restore' point actions before the intrusion of technology, but they did not. Maybe everything will be fine... but I only have a sense of uncomfortable.

QUESTIONS to all members of tech savvy confidence:

* What was so important about a number. The remote tech wanted to remove the DLL file? We organize the last update Norton - is there any other check I should run. something I should look manually by deleting this scrupulous Tech distance or otherwise tend to leave it on the computers?

* Why he would change theme 'Vista' of the computer so that it is no longer an option? [I think I found the MS steps to restore it; it is not the never seen that Windows updates can cause this - someone else has had this experience of the recent update that coincides with the work computer of my family?]

* Why some MSCONFIG files now list as "Stopped", including the "Themes", who were NOT arrested before "24/7" Tech-man did his thing? ". How the hell should I I restart them correctly?

* I look forward to any other control that recommend MS reps or others in the "know" with similar experiences.

Thank you all.

Hello

We have the name correct .dll for you help as to what it relates to.

Normally, it is not a malware problem you now have on their part.

This can help you with your problems of Restore Point:

1. If you are using Norton, you should disable Norton inviolable Protection before using the system restore.

After having given remote access to a foreigner:

As your parents gave them remote access and if you do Internet banking, contact your bank, explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

On the updates of Windows:

Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.

You should only get the latest drivers for them to real hardware manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor those have the most recent drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd party hardware Manufactuer to provide.

But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.

You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

'Remove an update'

When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again

  • Windows Vista will not install new updates after installing SP2

Hi, I have a problem with the update of my windows. It started after a fact a factory reset. Here's the history:

I have a some what old laptop (8 years). It came with a Vista installed with service pack 1 installed at the factory. Over the years, I did a few factory resets (every 2-3 years). I never had problems up to now. What is happening now is that I can not exceed SP2. I tried two different ways, none of them worked. After the reset, I first uninstall a bunch of stupid programs that came with the laptop, and then defragment and then have two ways to proceed. I tried to use windows update, installed more than 100 updates, updates install held until finally I offered service Pack2, installed successfully but then no more updates were offered. Then I tried a different approach - a new reset, uninstall, Defrag, and then downloaded and installed SP2 directly from the Download Center. And again the same thing happens. From the SP2 installation I check updates, download the new update agent and nothing happens after that. He keeps looking for new updates all day (about 50% of the processor by using all the time).

I read some articles and discussions but could not find anyone with the same problem (most of the users reported some error codes which is something I can't do). I tried the fix tool - it does nothing! Whenever I run it, it is mistakes - sometimes 2, sometimes up to 5. Sometimes, it makes account all fixed, other times that it reports missing or corrupt files do not set. Whatever the results if I restart and when I try to check for updates again it is still the same story.

Also I tried to install it manually IE9 as soon as SP2 is installed (I understand that this is not supported under SP1) but the installation fails. I expected to be available in updates, but as I don't get updates I tried to install it myself. Not sure if it's related (although I guess it is), but the Defender is not able to verify new definitions either.

Any suggestions? Maybe the registry is damaged or some of the files using the update agent is are corrupt? There are currently no antivirus program installed that could block whatever it is. I haven't touched Windows Firewall somehow everything must therefore be attributed to the default values.

You understand is that? I came across exactly the same problem... restoration of an old book to give to a family member, and every time I came to the point of installing SP2 and a more recent windows update agent just after, I couldn't install more updates. It would block 'check updates' forever. Tried twice, same problem. However, I tried some things differently the third time and exceeded the question.

Let me know if you still need help, and I will respond with what I've done.

  • Vista & check for box Windows Update doesn't seem to work

Hello, (Specs: Microcomputer HP/Compaq with Vista Home Premium, SP2)

The Windows Update control box seems to go nowhere.  Keeps audit and some never... no results.  I run FIX - IT, and he did of bugs.  Then restart and try again CheckUpdates.  Same thing.  And also, the "most recent search for updates" and "updates have been installed" two say '' never. ''  If I seem to have lost everything that was installed or checked in the recent past.

FIX - IT has deleted the ones?

I ran also malaware program and the program McAfee (that comes with my subscription to AOL) and clean disk.  Then tried the FIX - IT and re-run check updates.  I have received many downloaded and installed a few of them because so many updates were available at that time.  I'm going to install one or more other, but who has not installed.  Just kept running in mode installation, running and running, nothing happens.  I tried to re-boot, FIX - it again...   So now I'm back on the State 'never '.  Updates Windows to check once more runs from nowhere for the last 4 hours.

(I even tried before execution with Firewall disabled, just to see what would happen.  I turned back.)

I noticed that the computer activity light is very minimal (1 flashes every 10 seconds approximately) that check the update is running.  That the light should be blinking a lot?

I also do not know what to do at this point.  The update service is not running.

    Thank you.

updated-what precedes has worked once for a small set of downloads. (I had changed and reduced the amount of updates installed to shorten the waiting time for results)  When I went to install several updates, it did not.  I ran the Fix - It again and lost all facilities.  After a few attempts, Fix - It is not helping.

Then I went through this series (a few ideas from another thread of discussion, rest are mine).

I cleaned the computer - clean disk, then my regular analysis of McAfee, then tried Malawarebytes program (nothing was found by any program scans, fyi) and then defragment the drive.

After that, several Windows updates appeared.  I installed Windows, not Microsoft software updates only those related to programming (I think that's what I did.)

And then install it worked and have stayed.  I'll check for another batch of updates installed as I imagine that there must be more, because I lost all the others who were there before the Fix - It.

I don't really know what the sequence preceding really helped and enabled the victory. Update service works.  But it's good for now.

    Best of all.

  • Vista theme disappeared after installing SP2

I updated vista 64 Service Pack 2 to allow the installation of ie9.  After installing sp2, my taskbar has been changed and the vista theme completely disappeared.  Areas of the screen are now much brighter, lighter or white (taskbar now is almost white and has the old style box 'Start').  I went in the 'appearance' of the control panel section and searched the vista theme - it's gone.  Installation of task bar that I had before the sp2 update is missing.  How can I get that back?  I tried to remove and reinstall sp2 and restore to earlier date and put it back - no matter what I do the screwed up theme with no option to get the old back.  Everything else works fine.  How to bring back the task of vista bar/color theme?  Is there a file I can load up?  I'm tired of wasting time of uninstallation/reinstallation.  We don't like also how change is so brilliant screen - and we do not find a way to change that either - there is no manual ocntrols and not to tarnish the brightness - no indication 'aid' does not provide - it says adjust buttons that do not exist.  How to bring back the vista theme?

  • How can I recover missing Windows Vista themes?

My operating system is vista Home premium, but I realized it lacked the themes except the classic windows theme. How can I get these themes in return?

There is no separate download for the themes that come with Vista.  If they are missing, the only way to recover is to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side. You can have a lot of updates to re - install (including all you need to remove service packs).  If the version of the system came with SP1 or SP2 preinstalled and the disc is an earlier version, then you will need to make a record of slipstream as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html.

There are many other themes Vista free available online that you can download and use instead if you don't want to do the repaiir/upgrade or if you do not have access to a facility genuine Windows Vista disc and therefore cannot make the repair/upgrade.  Perhaps alternatives theee will be sufficient.  Here's a search for free Vista themes you can check and see if they will satisfy you: http://www.bing.com/search?q=Free%20Vista%20themes&mkt=en-us&FORM=TOOLBR&DI=6244&CE=14.0&CM=SearchWeb.

    I hope this helps.

Since you have 2 identicle updates, and you are informed that you have the latest version, then you need not to update a copy. You can 'hide' the unwanted update. But before you can do this, you mustchange your auto manual update update.

Click Start > in the search box, type windows update > press the Enter key > afraid that column, click settings actually > important section updated, click on the pointer, and then select "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them > check under"Recommended Updates"> check mark under"Microsoft Updates"> check mark under the heading 'Notification of software' > click OK"

Now that you have defined Windows updates on manual.
When you receive the notification that the updates are available, click to see what they are. If you have already installed, click on RIGHT > click Hide.
This willingness to update never appears again.
