• Driver RAID for Vmware ESXi 5.1 on Dell R420.

  My project is to install Vmware ESXi 5.1 on a Dell R420 with Raid1 configuration. The question I have after configuring raid1 in raid utility is created using the, I launch the installation of Vmware ESXi 5.1. What is ESXi 5.1 sees not the raid1 partition but rather see two disks as are they worn can't in raid1 configurations.

  I need to have this in raid1 config, can any who share an idea about my problem please or point me in the right direction.

  I did some research but nothing seems to help resolve this issue.

  DELL-Daniel My - when I boot in the BIOS of the controller, I see the raid in a raid1 configuration.

  Mgr dev you are right, I did research more when you all answered. I see the PERC S110 pilot was a software raid controller and thus the vmware esxi wouldn't work in a raid configuration 1 (software raid).

  Got a server on VMWare ESXi 4, currently with a virtual more to come Linux machine.

  My goal is to use the server as a server from file/place of storage within the network of the company but also to test the environment (this is what I need several virtual machines for).

  My question is: is it possible to use ESXi 4 as a file server separately from the installed virtual machines? Or do I have to use one of the virtual machines as a storage place? If Yes, is there some way I can connect to this storage place WITHOUT using VMWare vSphere (that I currently use to manage the server)? Say, add network drive from Windows on the desktop.

  Those who resembles a fundamental questions for me however I am quite newbie here so I'm not really sure what can be done

  As far as I KNOW, no, you cannot use VMware ESXi itself as a storage/file server.

  You must use VM in it and this VM should get this service to another customer.

  So you want to use this host (ESXi) as your test environment (put some VM on it to test it), you should pay attention to your bandwidth and the e/s, may be the test VM needs a lot of bandwidth or i/o and if your host may not respond to all virtual machines must (file server and test virtual machines) you will see a low performance.

  I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

  Following is the error message:

  "Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

  So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

  Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...

• Problem with the start of VMware ESXi 5.0

  I just installed VMware ESXi 5.0 on a new Cisco UCS B200 series blade with two 300 GB hard drives configured in a RAID 1 mirror.  I went through and completed the installation of VMware ESXi 5.0 on this server.  When the installation is complete and the server restarted, he did not initiate the ESXi where I can change the IP address and VLAN.  Instead, I get this text string after the initial boot sequence that is shown in the attachment.  I have a guest who said Shell > do not know why I can not start correctly in ESXi 5.0.  Thank you!  Paul

  Hi Paul,.

  Looks like you boot to the EFI shell. What is the startup policy that you have configured on this server service profile? It should look like the one below.  If there is a problem with the boot order, you should be able to type "EXIT", then enter on the EFI shell to exit the prompt. If your startup is similar to the one below and you still experience this issue, try to downgrade and re - ack the blade.

  • internal 4 x 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD (RAID 5) - I know that it's slow to host the VMDK

  • Internal USB slot on the motherboard (but not USB flashdisk?)

  Dell PowerVault MD3000

  • 10 x 300 GB SAS 15 k RPM

  • 2 x Dual port Gigabit Ethernet NIC (x 4 in total)

  • iSCSI - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet for the switch (mute not to VLAN)

  I wonder where I should install the VMWare ESXi? for the VMDK, I believe that the deployment in the SAN is the right place.

  and any suggestion for the use of the SATA HARD drive internal?

• Virutal Center can work next to the Vmware ESXi management package

  VMware currently has a promotion on Vmware ESXi management kit which is basically a Virutal Center Foundation license. That being said if you already have a virtual Center Server for all of your ESX servers could run a 2nd VMware ESXi management kit virtual Center Server for all your ESXi servers in parallel? or they will conflict with each other?

  My understanding is you can run as many virtual servers Center like you license but you can have than 1 ESX Server any attached to 1 Virutal host at any given time.

  We run 7 instances vCenter, so yes it is possible.  In addition, as you said a host ESX (i) can be managed by a single instance of vCenter.

  I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

  This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2^nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2^nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2^nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2^nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2^nd NIC.   I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 III with six 7.2 K rpm HDs in RAID 5 running VMWare ESX 3i in an internal USB unit. In this server, I have a virtual machine running a mail server. I have problems of performance of disks in servers and we will change the discs on 15 K RPM drive and change the RAID 10 RAID level. I activated the SSH in VMWare ESXi and my question is: is it possible to copy the virtual machine using Winscp or other method forders, rebuilt my RAID, and then copy these files to VMWare again?

  You may need to use "add to inventory" since the UUID will be different on the store of data on disks. If we then open the data store with and navigate to the virtual machine. Right click and Add. You answer that you move them.

  The additional INTEL Nic does not appear upward.  But I can see VMWare ESXi 4 acknowledged the Intel NIC in Advanced Settings Configuration VMDirectPath.

  Any help with this would be great.
