VMware server Console Black

Hello

When I open a (Windows 2003 32-bit) VMware Server console I get the attached black console.

When I make RDP to this server also I get the same console. I changed the display of color options, and even in this case, I get the same screen.

This virtual server is hosted on ESX 3.5i and I migrated to anotehr ESX host, but the problem remains the same.

No idea how to solve this problem?

See the blog below.  We have came across this the other day because a customer's lack of space on the C: drive.  However, change registry entries remotely did not work.  I think somehow, by pressing a key combination when you use the VMware Console and a user who had never logged, we got the loading screen.  I think it is or .  But whatever it is, you have to check the registry database for colors.

    Hello

After an upgrade sometimes ago, I found a strange behaviour on VMware Server Console 1.0.8. I tested VMware Server Console 1.0.9 and it behaves the same way.

The problem is: arrows do not function correctly, and the 'Alt Gr' key does not work as expected (by pressing "Alt Gr" + a key provides as it is pressed without "Alt Gr". Sometimes "Alt Gr" beahaves like 'Enter')

The behavior is always reproducible on all tested computers with VMware Server Console 1.08 - 1.09 on Linux and all tested clients.

    Platform customer information:

    VMware Server Console 1.0.8 build-126538 and 1.0.9 build-156507, openSUSE 11.1, Linux 2.6.27.23 - 0.1 - #1 SMP, KDE3 and KDE4 default

The problem is on the server. On the host that edit you/etc/vmware/config

I had the same problem with a linux host. Here, you will need to edit this file and Add following lines in/etc/vmware/config

    xkeymap.keycode.108 = 312 # Alt_R

    xkeymap.keycode.106 = 309 # KP_Divide

    xkeymap.keycode.104 = 284 # KP_Enter

  • Generate url for virtual machine installed on vmware server console programmatically

    Hello

I want to generate URLs for machine vmware console located on vmware server. Are there examples of available in c# code? Any help will be really good.

    Thank you.

    Hello

There are already several posts/Articles on this subject. What works for ESX should work for VMware Server. The misfortune is that it should be avoided for several reasons:

    (1) there are only a limited number of "consoles" allowed for a given server of VMware

    (2) RDP/VNC is a tool much better for this as there are no such limits

    (3) the security of this method is somewhat limited

    (4) more than one user can access the same VM without protection of the user (essentially a struggle for control)

So in general, it is best to RDP/VNC in the virtual machine is to use the console.

  • 64-bit applications do not convert to VMware Server Console of ESX3i

    Hello

Because of performance problems, we try to convert a machine Console VMware Server 1.0.4 for VMware ESX Server 3i, using VMware converter standalone client 4.0.1 vcentre but it is a failure with the answer "the destination can't stand not 64-bit clients.

We believe that ESX3i supports 64-bit machines - there is an option to create one, if we were to start from scratch.

We also tried to import directly via the "Import a virtual appliance" option on the 3i server itself, but he expects a file ovf rather than an egg file, and so we get an exception "system out of memory.

Can anyone recommend the best method of conversion of a 64-bit computer?

    Thank you

Welcome to the Forums - Yes ESXi support 64-bit VMS but you needs to ensure that material that esxi installed supports 64-bit by confimrining in the server BIOS ESXi VT i and s 64-bit enabled

    Hello

I've successfully used vmware - server.2.0.1_x64 - modules - 2.6.30.4 - fix.patch to build modules on my laptop running Ubuntu Karmic Koala. VMware Server version is VMware server 2.0.1 - 2.0.1 - 156745.x86_64.tar.gz, and I'm running it with kernel 2.6.31 - 10-generic. The question I have is that while the web console seems to be running on port 8333, I can't get an answer from him. Has anyone else encountered this problem? See you soon.

OK, I got it to work. Try this in a terminal and let me know if it works for you too:

    VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK = force. Mozilla/Firefox/*.default/extensions/[email protected]/plugins/vmware-vmrc

    See you soon,.

  • Where have the VMWare Server "client / console ' downloads went?

either he had formerly downloads as "VMware-console - 1.0.6 - 91891.exe" who were just the client end.

Such as those mentioned in the: http://pubs.vmware.com/server1/admin/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=admin & file = manage_server.5.6.html

I can't find a download like this for 1.0.8 and I think I'm having a problem of compatibility with 1.0.6.

I don't really need to install the whole invasive Server installation just to get the client for my office.

    Any ideas?

Same place, that downloads have always been.

Go to the download page for the server.  Click the link to download under Server version 1.0.8.  Accept the EULA.  On the download page, there is a link for the Client Windows VMware Server package.

I just upgraded to version 2 which has MS Windows in a special console window.  I would like to than the console to start on the second DISPLAY window (: 0.1) so that I can use Firefox normally on DISPLAY: 0.0.  How can I?

Vmware-server is overkill for what I'm doing?  VMware player is available for linux?  Should I use Firefox to start?

I think that its an exaggeration. You probably want to use VMware Workstation to this... it allows you to set the number of monitors used by a virtual machine. Or use VMware Player 2.5... It is available for Linux.

  • Replacement for VMware Server 1.0

    Hello community

I'm running a few hosts CentOS with VMware Server 1.x 5.x various hosts as CentOS virtual computers, the legacy Netware servers and some Windows machines.

Now I need to put in place the new hosts with CentOS 6.x to enjoy some of the things fantasy that comes with this new major release (especially things like the handling of SSD and BTRFS).

However, VMware Server 1.x only installs on CentOS 6 and so this combination is not an option.

VMware Server 2.x (even if it would not work what I do not know) is a no-go, I don't like the web directors at all and would really like to have an administration like the VMware Console tool, which used to be the administrative tool for server 1.x.

I would not mind spending the money for it, so there is no need to be free (business environment), but thousands of dollars of course aren't in the budget for it.

However, many VMware products seem to be a mess for me (sorry...) and even worse, they all seem to be a bit inflated.

What I choose today, VMware Server 1.x was exactly the thing I need, without all the bells and whistles, subsequent proceeds provided with, but if possible with a platform independent (Linux + Win) administration tool?

Is there any "weight light server grade product of virtualization" VMware plus, which brings the necessary basic features and runs on modern linux guests?

I have already evaluated VirtualBox and KVM and got both work, however, I have used VMware now for more than a decade at least I want to ask the community for recommendations before moving on to a completely different virtualization platform.

Thank you to for your advice!

Then take another look at work station - there now the abilitry to function as server hosting VMs - or you can go to the bare metal hypervisor and run ESXi that will install directly on hardware, eliminating the need for CentOS - there is a free version available that as well.

I copied the file listener.ora to a similar environment that works correctly, stop and then restart the listener, checked my repeatedly tnsnames entries etc. I wonder if the problem may be related to the fact that this environment runs in a virtual machine. Maybe some special network configurations are required for the NIC VM - I solved many problems of sqlnet over the years, but it baffled me. Any help is very appreciated.

  • Network adapters disconnected on vmware server

After I set up a virtual server for Novell netware, it identifeid speed of the virtual machine to each NIC that 1000, so I tried to change the speed of virtual machine from 100 to 1000.  Now I can't connect to the remote VM machine.  At the level of the server, each NETWORK adapter is noted as disconnected.  Because it was his internal IP address via DHCP from another Novell server that is no longer, it connects to, I put a static IP address to the server console.  Still nothing rmotely.  What should I do to fix my mischief.

In general you should just be able to put 4.1 above the location of 4.0 x. AFAIK, some configurtion files gets lost on ESXi and you create a backup of them (if you wish). Read page 59 of the document I have posted the link to.

Guests should not affect, however, if possible, make a backup of your guests. If they are associated with a shared storage, disconnect it.

  • Failed to get the log in page of VMware Server

    Hello

I'm new to the forum so apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place.

I installed VMware server to December 2008 to use Win XP on it because my laptop is preinstalled with Vista.

It worked all fine and I used it for a few months.

However, I have not consulted for like the past 8 months. Now, I want to once again since, but have not been able to.

If I remember correctly, I used to access the console remotely via Internet Explorer simply log on and it works.

But now when I try - Internet Explorer 8 comes with the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" page and Firefox comes with its 'unable to connect' page.

I tried to go back to IE7 and also repair the installation (by running again the Setup file), but none worked.

After accessing services.msc - I found that all VMware services are or may be given except on the VMware host Agent that does not start.

It comes up with the error message "Windows could not start the VMware host on Local computer Agent. For more information, see the system event log. If it is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to service-1-specific error code. »

I don't know what to do with it and how to address this issue either.

Any help on this would be much appreciated as I need to check what is on this XP machine.

    Thanks in advance ~

Open the service manager in Windows and you can see all the services that are running. One of them is called "browser".

What about rename it pass it directory - do you want to say to just change the name of the folder called "pass" to the place that I installed

VMware Server? If this name should so I change to?

Yes. I suggest "bbrbblllwurbschgarbel" or something that is more readable.

And regarding the uninstalling and reinstalling VMware Server 2.0 - I wanted to ask if that would erase / affect the virtual machines I created?

I tried just to fix the installation but was afraid to uninstall & reinstall.

No it does not affect the guests. If you want to be absolutely sure, create a copy of the virtual machine comments (copy the directory parent of all guests and all the money).

Moreover, I had VMware server operational on this laptop before Vista - it's just I hadn't touched for a long time and now I

    cannot make it work ~

If she had run once it does not mean he always runs on a non supported host OS. A simple patch that changes some .dll could slow everything down.

  • Are there known problems of VMware Server transition to the Workstaton

    Hello

As VMware Server end of support announced ( http://www.vmware.com/support/policies/lifecycle/general/index.html) I was looking at transition to VMware Server 2 of VMware WorkStation. I have a Red Hat Linux host machine that has a VMware Server running on it with a single virtual machine. I was hoping to find out what are the problems might face to make the transition from one environment to another.

I am aware that the server and the workstation cannot co exist on the same system, so basically I need to uninstall the server and install the work station. I am also aware that virtual machines are generally compatible between the two products. I also read on the comparison between products. ( http://vmfaq.com/entry/5/ )

    Are there other traps?

    Thank you

    Varun

    Hello

You can download the VIX API (it contains the text console vmrun command - he didn't need a desktop case to run) from here.

If you install the VIX API in a remote machine (not here where the workstation it is installed), you will be able to administer the computer zone in a passing distance.

Of course, you can do the same thing on the workstation itself locally, using vmrun/vix it is included with workstation.

Here you will find a tutorial on using vmrun to administer the virtual machine.

    Hope this helps

    Best wishes / Saludos.
