VSphere server, should run on a physical host.

Hi all

Just try vsphere outside and I was wondering what I need to run vsphere on a physical host server or can I throw on one of the esxi servers.

If so, are there drawbacks or benefits of doing it this way.

Thank you

Joel

> If I'm running vsphere on one of its own esxi host machines, build, I have problems with the help of DRS, HA or VMOTION

Well his delicate good.  Running it in a virtual machine is not a problem if the virtual machine is vmotion is located be vSphere VM you will probably lose connection to vsphere which will then stop the vmotion, and it's a never-ending cycle.  If you need to set advanced settings in DRS to ignore the virtual machine where you run vSphere to avoid this problem.

> If I run it on a physical host, and it breaks down. What will happen with the virtual machine, it will still work on the host

The virtual machine will continue to function, but the DRS / HA will not.  vSphere must be actively running to manage these processes.

  • Convert an Esxi 4 2 Server VM runs extremely slow

    Hello

I am very new to virtualization and have just the configuration server ESXi 4 that will replace the VM Server 2 systems we tested.  Recently, I tried to convert one of my server-2 VMs (Using the 'Converter Standalone Client') a VM (Version 7) Infrastructure.  After two days of continuous operation, the converter was only 5% finished and was transferring data to 24 kb/s (the server is ~ 150 GB in size).  This seems to be extremely slow and I hope that there is something that I can do to speed up that this server should run during opening hours and I like that, I can't take it down more than the weekend.

I ran the converter Client on the server that hosts the virtual machine, and that server and the ESXi have dual network adapters connected to a managed switch of FD 100 MB.  (They are both on the same switch).  The virtual machine was not working and there was almost no other network activity going on during the conversation.

    Any help is appreciated

The goal is to eliminate the things that it is not. Download your installation as simple as possible. I don't know what your problem is, but it certainly seems like a network problem. A single 100 MB network adapter should work much faster than the speed you receive.

Other things to eliminate are pass the port problems, configuration issues, cable issues, NIC

Run something like wireshark as you begin your conversion. See if you notice any problems in the capture.

Create a new fresh installation of the VM on the ESXi host and check the flow rate etc. You don't want to go to production if you have problems. Monday will not be fun if you do.

  • ESXi 5.5u1 - serial number physical host in virtual machine

I was happy to see in 5.5 update 1 release notes that it should be possible to switch the serial number of the host through a virtual machine hardware.

    • Allow virtual machines to display the serial number of the physical host
Virtual machines cannot reflect the physical hosts ESXi serial numbers.
      • This issue is fixed in this version.

Does anyone know how to enable this for a new or existing virtual computer?

I had problems in the past with Apple Push Notification Services expects a Mac serial number. I hope that I can now spend series a Mac Pro to the host through a virtual machine.

Someone at - it experience or knowledge to implement this? Thank you!

Hi DJLambertand welcome to the VMware communities!

If you want a prompt of OS X to use the serial number of the host, you will need to add this option to the virtual machine configuration:

    serialNumber.reflectHost = 'TRUE '.

or, if you want a prompt of OS X to use the model of host hardware ID (learn "MacPro5, 1"), ID (i.e. "Mac-12345678" ") and the serial number all all aboard:

    smbios.reflectHost = 'TRUE '.

will take care of all three.  Note that there is no way to understand or control what happens if you have multiple virtual machines with the same serial number and using this external serial number as an identifier.

Let us know if you have problems with these options!  I'm not sure whether they will solve the problem you face, but... For example, there are more problems iMessage running in a virtual machine...

    See you soon,.

  • How to get information on which ESX server datacenter runs a hypervisor?

    Hi all

Does anyone know how we can programmatically connect to a hypervisor and know what client vsphere she manages?

I noticed that when I connect with the vsphere client directly to a hypervisor managed by a server datacenter, ESX, vsphere client tells me that this XXXXXXX host manages the hypervisor.

Is it possible to get this information from the vsphere API?

    Thank you!

    Luis

Cannot connect to esxi, then run the following command to see the sessions connected to the host itself:

    Then, use .sessionList (Get-view SessionManager)

To connect to any server vcenter, and to see the home that vcenter uses:

    (Get-VMHost). Extensiondata.summary.managementServerIp

  • Is it better to install vCenter Server 4.1 on a physical or a virtual machine?

I read somewhere that VMWare recommend install the server as a VM vCentre in version 4.1, but I'm not sure that my setup is as follows:

3 servers ESX 3.5 x, all in a cluster, currently managed by a vi 2.5 client that is on a Windows machine. I had a problem when we had to close all the ESX servers, the other day, and when I did I just leave Windows Server with the VI client to the top and race walk, (vms was shown as down) then when restarted ESX servers, I just started the mandatory VMS from there , in a few clicks. If I stopped all my ESX servers, how I restart the server virtual vCentre?

I have not updated yet, so may have missed something obvious, but I'm trying to understand it before you upgrade and this step.

    Rudy,

    Have a look here:

    http://www.get-virtual.info/2011/02/25/script-of-the-day-find-and-start-VC-in-Dr/

I quickly gathered a script to manage your CV disaster restart.

the 3rd script in the post will include follow-up to start different services / hosts for your CV.

for example if your VC needs a separate server SQL running. . and this server needs AD currently running.

Please let me know how it goes.

  • where and how much Vcenter must be installed? as a virtual machine or physical host? -config is 2xESXi40 - CX4 - 120 1xEMC2 - DAS mode

    "BEST PRACTICE RECOMMENDATION.

I work with 1 ESXi40 in DAS mode very good and everything is fine.

I have still a few servers production of Phisical aditional to be virtualized, but before that

We cultivate our virtual infrastructure by adding a second Esxi40 and installing the Virtual Center software and license to use HA, Vmotion, etc..

the questions and the thing is, if I'm migrating all my hosts physic to the VMs system, do I need a new physical server to install Virtual Center, yes or no.

    and why?

If this is not the case, the Vcenter can be virtualized, and what is the best practice to do this.

which of the following configuration might be valid, the best recommendation and why and why not.

    (a) create 1 Vcenter VM, located in a data store on the hard drive that comes a host of Esxi40

    (b) create 1 Vcenter VM, created storage located in a data store that comes from the CX4-120, and the group contains 1 ESXi40 physical host

    (c) create 1 Vcenter VM, created storage located in a data store that comes from the CX4-120, and the group contains 2 ESXi40 physical hosts

    (d) create 2 Vcenter VW, created storage located in a data store that comes from the CX4-120, and the group contains 1 ESXi40 physical host

    (c) create 2 Vcenter VM, located in a data store that comes from the CX4 - 120, ahd, the storage group created containds 2 ESXi40 physical hosts

    Thank you

    MC.

    You're too complicate things...

Do the vCenter as a virtual machine, which gives the requirements for processors, RAM, etc... Place it on a data store available to BOTH hosts. In fact, I would make sure that ALL s LUN where sit all VM are available for BOTH ESXi servers.

I recommend also using a full SQL Server for the db, is not using SQL Express. If you have a SQL 2005 server, use it. If you want to future proof, vCenter things, put on a 64 bit OS (so you're ready for vCenter 4.1 and ESXi 4.1). Having the SQL database on a real SQL Server (other than the server vCenter Server/VM) makes things a lot easier on the road...

  • Please advise about a server to run Oralce

    Hello
I hope this is the right forum to post my thread.

What is the best server to run Oracle? It's my environment:

    Win 2008 Server standard.
    Oracle 11g R2 Standard.
It will be mainly for the web application (Oracle Application Express) on server Glassfish.
Number of users arround 100 users.
    budget $2500-3000.

    Kind regards
    Fateh

    Fateh says:

What is the best server to run Oracle? It's my environment:

A very subjective application - like how long is a piece of string...?

    Win 2008 Server standard.
    Oracle 11g R2 Standard.

Why Windows? Why not Oracle Linux? It's not only cheaper, your complete stack s/w (database and operating systems) are supported by the same provider.

It will be mainly for the web application (Oracle Application Express) on server Glassfish.
Number of users arround 100 users.

Number of users is less important than what treatment and the resource charges that these users place on the server.

    budget $2500-3000.

Well, there are 3 basic choices IMO:
-Servers Sun x 86 from Oracle Corp.
    -x 86 servers to HP
    -x 86 Dell servers

    The h/w decision should include:
-How many processors and carrots? (cela a direct impact on Oracle RDBMS, licensing costs)
    -How much RAM?
    -how much local storage?

I prefer not to use the local hard drives for storage - it does always scale well when your I/O calls per second and the volume increases. If you want to use local storage, you would want multiple disks local scsi of interleaving and same redundancy.

The problem with this is that it increases the size of the server (the 1 rack unit to 4-2 rack units) - and increases the cost of the server and consumes more space in your server rack.

There is therefore no one best answer to your question. You need to determine your needs and your constraints, shop, make a short list of models that respond to these and then select the one you think is the best.

  • ESXi 3.5 manage in Vsphere Server?

I have a stand-alone ESXi3.5 server with no pre-existing VI. Currently in the Vsphere evaluation and that you want to import this host ESXi 3.5 in vsphere server. The import is at 99% and get the error message "Unable to acquire licenses because the source of license is not available." I noticed in the configuration I have to point to a server licenses for ESX and ESXi 3.5. Can I still manage a crowd 3.5 in Vsphere server and if yes how to do without a license server?

Yes, you can manage ESX/i3.5 with vSphere Server. Two ways you can do--

    1. You can configure vCenter Server to point to the license server to manage ESX3.x host. This option is available in vCenter Server Settings and then Licensing.

    2. If the license has not expired, you can use eval mode.

Let me know if that answers your query.

  • abstractWSDL points to the physical host name when using URL loadbalanced

Document tracking "Oracle® Fusion Middleware Enterprise Deployment Guide for Oracle SOA Suite 11 g Release 1 (11.1.1) E12036-04" to implement soa suite 11 g PS2 in two node cluster environment.

    Hostname SOA physical server (SOAHOST1 & SOAHOST2)

More SOA is configured with the virtual host name (SOAHOST1VHN1 & SOAHOST2VHN1 Port: 8001) and loadbalancer URL is http://soa.mycompany.com:7777.

Successfully completed installation and the steps of post-installation as update callbackServerURL and serverURL to http://soa.mycompany.com:7777

    Also updated HttpServerURL as http://soa.mycompany.com:7777.

Composite SOA successfully deployed to the cluster from jdeveloper soa and tested control of Fusion middleware 11g (EM) webservices. And his works fine.

When I goto page to Test Composite, the WSDL and endpoint URL appear as expected is http://soa.mycompany.com:7777 / soa-infra/services/default/ccValidation/getStatusByCC? WSDL and http://soa.mycompany.com:7777 / soa-infra/services/default/ccValidation/getStatusByCC

But when I access the WSDL in the abstractWSDL browser is having hostname of the server that is mentioned below. Cause this problem by calling this webservice of some other jdeveloper 11g bpel processes. When I enter the url http://soa.mycompany.com:7777 WSDL / soa-infra /... in Web service activity (after placing the activity in the corridor of "External References") and wire BPEL to webservice, WSDL url in webservice is changed to http://soahost1.mycompany.com:8001 / soa-infra /... and wiring is faulty.

Since soa suite managed server is configured with the virtual host name, the wsdl file is accessible only by using their virtual hostnames (SOAHOST1VHN1 & SOAHOST2VHN1) and load balancer url. Access WSDL using the physical hostname soahost1 would result in "Page not found" error. Why Jdeveloper isn't able to wire bpel with webservice component.

    Question:

Is there any configuration that I need to change for this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

  • Best practices - addition RDM to the second node (W2K3) MCSC Machine virtual nodes on the physical host computers

Addition of RDM to the second node (W2K3) MCSC Machine virtual nodes on the physical host computers

Unable to find another thread on this

When you add RAW disks to the second node in Virtual Machines across physical hosts in the Cluster / Cluster across boxes,.

VMware said shared point of the storage drives in the same location as the first node sharing storage disc *.

-Select use an existing virtual drive...

-In the drive path, navigate to the location of the disk (quorum) specified for the first node

-Select the same virtual device node you chose for the first virtual machine shared storage disks, IE SCSI (1:0)...

    In other words to add the RDM to mscs-node2, navigate to/vmfs/volumes/lun1/mscs-node1 / mscs - node1_2.vmdk (mscs-node1_2 - rdmp.vmdk)

For years we have directly added the ROW the second node specifying RDM disk not existing does not, in general we do directly from the host, not the vCenter, it seems to work fine.

For what is the safest way, the official method can cause all sorts of problems if you need to cancel the registration of the ROW on the first node (here's where I found no official documentation).

Delete you or keep the file descriptor? We tried to keep him, but ended up with several mappings to la.vmdk/rdmp.vmdk, so now, this system has disk2_.vmdk / disk2_ - rdmp.vmdk and disk4_.vmdk / disk4_ - rdmp.vmdk pointing to the same RAW.

What really bothers me is safety, these are very important boxes, I prefer to continue to have the VMDK and rdmp.vmdk in separate data warehouses, and do not have this dependence on the head node

Your comments please, we are viewing the store only setup of MSCS clusters with lanes separated from RDM and are there risks associated with this?

Remove each rdm disk without deleting

    To add

Add "Use an existing virtual disk to disk" (yes I know its bad, but once you create the host calling now think its virtual)

Navigate to the mapping of existing raw device, appearing like a vmdk * and add using the former location of scsi

    Graphic interface hides the descriptor

    A virtual disk has a vmdk and a flat.vmdk

A CRUDE disk has a vmdk and a rdmp.vmdk (the dish is replaced by vocation)

A suggestion of one of my companions is to locate the al the ROW in a single data store small, visibility of virtual machines with raw disk went like this
