W520 keyboard

Hello, I buy W520, by market research I founf this W520 is ideal for me. But in seeking, I have some confusion, I found (W520) this model have two different keyboard, one contains the Enter key rectangular staraight, and the other have the Enter key L-shape. I like the rectangular right key. Someone can tell me what is the keyboard with this model in fact and how can I make sure that I get a model with the right key.

Thank you

Lilou.

Take a look at this thread:

http://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T520-keyboard-layout/TD-p/413817

It depends on what country buy you the computer. If you buy a Thinkpad to the United States it is the smallest size of line key, but in Norway where I live, we have the largest and touches two rows.

Maybe someone else in the same country where you plan to buy the computer can confirm which type of keyboard Thinkpad got in this country.

  • replacement keyboard W520

I bought a W520 some years ago in North America and the keyboard come in the layout in English. I already intend to switch the keyboard with the Arab layout one since I'm sick of having to put stickers and their coat of all time. I also thought since I'm getting a new keyboard why not get the backlit, one on the W530. I know that Lenovo most of the time have some stupid restrictions on spare parts of previous experience with the wifi card. So anyone done tried to upgrade the front keyboard, and if it used to work becomes another W520 keyboard with the va Arab layout works for me too?

You can replace your keyboard by another keyboard T/W 520 regardless of layout - Arabic, Chinese, Swedish - it does not matter.

However, a T/W530 keyboard is a lawless, back-lit or not.

  • Life expectancy of a 'new' refurbished Lenovo W520

    Hi all!

I recently bought a refurbished Lenovo W520, with a brand new SSD and the new ram as well. The model goes back to 2011 and it looks actually pretty new in this is the general appearance.

These are purchased by companies whose users, I guess, probably used less intensely and probably with more care than the average user.

My question is; How long should I wait for this machine to work? He's already got what I assume to be nearly half a decade on his back, and even if some essential (SSD and Ram) parts are brand new, I am always worried about the longevity of the rest of its internal components.

    Thanks in advance!

I only really worry the cooling problems. It always speaks by making a much traveled W520. According to the number of hours of use, the laptop has had and the conditions, it has been preserved in, thermal paste could be replaced on the GPU/CPU and the fans/vents might need suddenly out with compressed air to remove any buildup. It's all a work of $6 to do yourself (materials: thermal paste and compressed air, remove the keyboard and the keyboard setting, remove the pipes on GPU/CPU.)

I guess that you have received a new battery (obviously these age and there is no way the original spec is more) and the LCD shows no problem (Panel light darkens over time but always mine high with only a little pink cast near the corners - although to be fair, mine had a life shaken and fallen several times on hard surfaces of some long-distance).

In the past, on other thinkpads, only other points of failure were the bearings in cooling fan requiring a replacement fan assembly failure and graphics (sometimes of the cable charts overwork through the hinge.) I have one of these problems with the W520 still. The hinge is better designed than many previous thinkpads and the cooling is less active which will span the life of any pads of the fan. It is with the 2000M GPU (1000M models have other issues because both had different designs cooling.)

Currently I have an SSD mSATA Plextor (Win 7 Pro OS - put to test at SATA2 speeds) in slot mSATA near trackpad and a SSD Pro of Samsung 850 in the hard drive Bay (win 10 Pro OS - tested SATA3 sppeds.) The system works well. For awhile, I thought win 10 was never going to work right and I need to replace the W520 immediately but finally Nvidia fixed their optimus drivers and the laptop is really eye-catching win 10. (Technically the W520 is not listed by Lenovo, a sustained Win 10 portable if Microsoft said that he would retire.)

  • ThinkPad W520 Win7 Bluetooth device not recognized by Windows 7

    Hi all

Just got my Thinkpad W520 4270 CTO with bluetooth installed. It was a work station BACK I installed Win 7 x 64 Ultimate on and I finally got all the drivers installed, but the bluetooth software says it is no BT device connected to my laptop. I checked the BIOS settings and confirmed that the BT is enabled. I even turned off, saved, then he helped turn. Hit the Fn + 5 combo does not trigger the light or no matter what 'Found New Hardware'. When the laptop starts first BT light flashes and the wifi led and the HARD drive activity light. I was not yet able to load another OS, but I download Arch Linux and BackTrack 5 to test to see that it is perhaps a problem with OS.

Thoughts or ideas would be useful, it seems that my Google-Fu me has missed as well.

EDIT: I realize in the sticky on the "do not update the bluetooth drivers" but I do not get my bluetooth to work at all, not even recognized by the operating system as an "unknown device".

I thought about it. It is ridiculously easy. Download the drivers for the keyboard shortcut key and install. It allow you to use the functions at the top of your keyboard, and then after reboot, press Fn + F5 and will you will get a menu to activate the Bluetooth on the operating system, then Win7 should detect and install the drivers for it, or you can download those from the Lenovo site.

  • Installation of memory channel to W520

I am planning to complete all 4 locations of memory with 4 GB each. I bought a pair of memory cards, are "dual channel kit. The question is where to put these two so that the couple works as a memory dual channel?

From the manual, it is not really clear which is which slot. I guess, the slots located under the keyboard are identified as SLOT 0 (top) and SLOT 0 b (bottom). Down those are 2 SLOT (left) and the SLOT 2 b (right).

Official video of W510, it looks like SLOT 0 and SLOT 2 are primary modules and SLOT 0 b and 2B SLOT are secondary modules. These bananas are called as 1 & 3 under the keyboard and 3 & 4 low on video.

The pair go to the SLOT 0a and 0b SLOT? It is under the keyboard.

Or the pair goes from 0 to SLOT & SLOT 2A? The one on top one on the bottom, but both in the main channel.

  • Wear of keyboard is covered by the warranty?

My w520 wear letter keyboard, some letters are worn or partially worn (white print on the keys).

I'm in third year of ownership. I didn't intend to keep for a long time, but I find the 'good old' so hard to share with of 7row keyboard.

I must say also that have more old thinkpad (x 40, 60 x) used and abused again with all the keys like new after 6 years

I've heard that some people in the United States has obtained new keyboards under warranty on their w5xx, free of charge, and no need to send the thinkpad.

Just called my local support from Lenovo (Italy)...

They said that the main doors labels are normal wear and tear and which was not covered by the warranty.

If I want a new keyboard, I must pay, still under warranty.

(Also they told me also that here we don't send you a box to deposit in the thinkpad, but it is the owner who must a generic box itself to source and wrap the thinkpad, they send just the mail.) )

Do you have an experience about it? (labels/new keyboard keyboard under warranty?)

If your keyboard is just worn out, the warranty covers the replacement.

However, if certain keys or mouse buttons stopped responding, it would be a different story. Then you would have the right to call and ask for a replacement keyboard.

I just replace the keyboard on my X220T on my own dime due to several keys very worn - and Yes, the machine is still under warranty.

    Good luck.

  • disabled shortcut keyboard keys

I have a W520 and today when I updated my system, the keyboard shortcut system has been completely disabled * the fn + keys) and the on screen display for when you change the volume, mute, turn off mic, thinklight, etc. is not running. What can I do to fix this problem?

    Thank you.

  • A few questions on the SSD for my W520

    (1) an mSATA reader, can serve as a boot media? I guess that it will reveal in the BIOS boot configuration?

    (2) I've seen conflicting information on this: is the first Bay SATA II or SATA III?

    Hello

    (1) Yes, mSATA can be used as boot drive in the W520, in this laptop the mSATA is located under the keyboard (on the T series is at the bottom of the machine next to the second RAM slot).

    (2) the main Bay on W520 is certainly SATA III and the mSATA on this system is also still certain to be SATA II. I hope this helps.

I searched and read many horror stories how anything but Lenovo SSD will not work or there are problems.

I also searched and read where the M500 Cruical works indeed.

Seems to be more complaints than not.

So what, what to do? All advice is appreciated.

I want to order a SSD by Sunday evening.

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.

You shouldn't have any problems setting up computer you the way you describe. My X 220 (generation of your W) is configured with an mSATA SSD Crucial m4 under the keyboard and a Samsung SSD of 840Pro in the main Bay. I had zero problems. A moderator colleague runs a T420 has also equipped the mSATA SSD Crucial m4, but kept the flat disc in the main Bay, I think.

    See you soon.

  • Installation of memory on my w520

I have printed the instructions for adding memory to my new W520 and had no problem adding the first stick of 8 GB on the lower access panel, but when it came for the removal of the keyboard to the second empty slot I was afraid to break the keyboard. It is a model i7 W5204276. Any suggestions on how to remove the keyboard without causing damage. I had removed the two screws of the lower panel but the keyboard didn't really want to give, and I was afraid to damage the keyboard or scars try t use all the tools.

Any suggestions would be welcome, because I would really like to add this key 8 GB premanente.

You can select the option on the left to watch video clips of removal/replacement FRU. the set is for the W510 because there is no link for the W5 machines * later, but he can still help you.

  • is it possible to order a t520 for a thinkpad t510 laptop keyboard

    Hi all

I wonder if this is possible because I think it must be something with the t510 design since my friend has a t420 and its keyboard is great. Unfortunately this t510 (and for the record, I had 3 replacement of keyboard) and each of the keyboard felt good at the beginning but after some use, themeslves felt stronger keys to break it. Either I'm crazy, but I think that my keyboard goes through phases... where previously in a first time the keys are extremely difficult to push and after awhile the keys get really easy to push and after while it slowly keys type on this keyboard starts to become harder to press down. It's really hard to believe, but it's true. Perhaps a defect in the t510 keyboard or I'm so no luck getting the same problem 3 times now with these replacement keyboards. Laughing out loud

    Thank you

    The keyboard on the T510, T520, X 220, T410, T420, T410s, T420s, T400s, W510, W520 are intercompatibles. So the answer to your question is Yes.

Just look for the part number of the keyboard under the keyboard.

What you describe is possible, as initially the mechanism in various plastic did not, once it is worn in the optimal point, the key will be easier to type on. But as you use it more, the essential mechanism will eventually wear out and create difficulties that you explain.

Like car engine, there is wear in the period for the parts of the engine once the engine of the car will feel smoother and eventually it will wear out.

P.S. But what you describe will be visible for people who constantly typing on their keyboards at a very fast pace.

  • Random BSOD W520

    Hello!

Not long ago, I bought thinkpad W520

I7 2760QM, 16 GB of RAM, 160 GB Intel SSD, wireless advanced, reader of fingerprints and bluetooth.

After the installation of the system recovery partition I started getting the BSOD.

Don't reinstall operating system, making the clean install of Win7 with latest drivers on the web gave no results.

Reasons for bsod as written are different all the time: IRQL..., PAGE FAULT IN... and so on.

I searched through this forum, it seems that similar problems wo people had problems with RAM.

Then I ran 5 cycles of windows RAM checking tool and full memtest86 +, which both reported no errors.

I tried to use the driver verifier, but he can't find any faulty driver and reports anything from the core of windows up to antivirus.

Finally, I want to mention that BSOD happen more often when running on the battery. In addition, BSOD occur usually just after windows has loaded. It can happen up to 3 - 4 times trying to start, but then it may not show up for a day.

Yes, I have 3 years warranty but I'm away from the country where I bought this phone and really need this job to the machine.

Can anyone help? I can post dumps memory on the crash, if necessary minidumps.

    Thanks in advance.

Writing to tell you that the problem was really with RAM

I got 16 GB installed the same Samsung RAM. There are two faulty RAM sticks under the keyboard. Maybe it's motherboard problems, but have not yet tested. The remove solved BSOD problem.
