WAP54G - Repeater mode

Hi all!

I tried to "repeat" a Lynksys WRT120N Router(ver. 1.0.01 G-mode only) using WAP54G Access Point(ver. 3.04) as repeaters. Is it possible in general because I had no luck so far?

Thank you in advance!

Momchil

Well it is not possible to make your WAP54G work in Repeater with WRT120N router mode.  WAP54G will work only with the WRT54G Router Repeater mode.

  • Problem installing WAP54G in Repeater mode

    I have a WAP54G-EU 3.05 firmware and firmware WRT54G-EU 7.00.1

I would use them in Repeater mode so I put. I also put in the WAP54G wireless to the router MAC address, the SSID of the router. The WAP54G is on static IP and the computer that is connected to it also has a fix IP address. No security option is set to none on the router and access point.

From the desktop, connected with a wire to the access point I ping the AP, but I cannot ping the router and the desktop computer connected to the router. It seems that the WAP54G and WRT54G can not communicate with each other.

    What can I do?

    It is a known problem.

The use of the WPA in Repeater/bridge mode interrupts the connection.

  • WAP54G Repeater, which router mode?

I have two WAP54G that I used to set that repeaters, but then I had to change my router to a WRT120N... But then I discovered only works with WRT54G Repeater mode, so I had to buy another.
    I bought a WRT54GH.

I was not able to repeat the operation successfully with this router.   This is what happens to be WRT54GH will not be repeated like the WRT54G? So which router do I need?  If I didn't change my router, how to repeat the signal?

    Thank you.

Yes. You can use WAP54G and connect directly to the modem to provide a wireless connection. Then, try to repeat the WAP54G signal rather than the signal from WRT54GH. I think WAP54G can repeat if connected with WAP54G wireless signals.

  • WAP54G (v3.1) in Repeater Mode to WRT54G (v5) will not affect the IP via DHCP

Hi, I just installed a WAP54G Access Point and define the AP as REPEATER mode.  I followed all the instructions, including the seizure of the MAC address of the router (WRT54G).  The signal seems to have substantially improved by the WAP in Repeater mode, but I can't connect to the wireless network as an IP is not able to attribute.  I tried different laptops running different wireless cards and get the same result.  Two (for WAP and the WRT) MAC addresses appear in the "monitor of the site" the utility of the wi - fi card (of course, WAP is the most powerful signal), but it fails when it tries to acquire a network address.  If I move the laptop closer to the WRT, assigns an IP address physically & I can connect, I just can't get the router to pass the IP address through repetition to the laptop.  I have updated the firmware on the two WRT & WAP.  No difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Fred, you're a genius! Who did the trick!  Live and learn.  I had no idea there is more than one MAC on the WRT54G.  I appreciate your help.  Super Bravo to you.

  • WRE54G canmot associated not with this access point in Repeater mode.

    Hello

Because of the concrete walls, I have a weak signal to use the WRE54G to extend my existing wireless network. However, I installed an Ethernet cable and found possible to connect the WRE54G access point. This is my extension of network is via a connection to an Ethernet cable. Is seems to work fine, it allows communications to the internet and shows a power good signal from a remote PC. But it works only in unsafe mode.

Although I tried to reset, and then follow the instructions to set up a new WEP or WPA encryption, the installation program recognizes the WRE54G, but does not allow me to save the configuration.

The error it says it is "WRE54G canmot not associate with this access point in Repeater mode.

    Help, please

Make sure your router's wireless settings and WRE are the same. Try changing the channel on your router, if your router's wireless channel is the default after the procedure, your WRE is unable to communicate with your wireless router.

  • Problems with getting WAP54g repeat (extend) wireless network

At one of our offices, we have a Cisco ASA5505 firewall that has dhcp active. I have a WRT54G Router plugged into this active firewall with DHCP. The scope of our internal network is 192.168.51 *, but when it is connected to the WRT54G, it gives you the scope of 192.168.1. * We have an antenna amplifier screwed into one of the ports on the router antenna. This configuration all works very well.

The problem is to install a WAP54G access point in a building on the property (picks up the signal fine wireless router) to repeat the signal wireless at the rear of the property where the router will not reach. I've read that all you have to do is type the routher wireless mac address in the access point and select "wireless Repeater". I have the channels set to 6 on both devices as well as the same security configuration. When I try to connect to the network wireless access point, it never gives me an ip address in the scope 192.168.1. *, that the WRT54G is configured to give. Anyone know what could be the problem?

In addition, in this configuration should the WRT54G be defined on the router or gateway mode? I didn't need to distribute ip addresses

Here are the ip addresses and the data of each unit

    Cable modem-->

    Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall - 192.168.51.1-->

WRT54G - IP address of the router - 192.168.1.1, however it uses DHCP and the ip address and the gateway he uses for the internet are of the order of 192.168.51. *-->

    WAP54G - 192.168.1.245

Any help would be appreciated, I might even make a phone call. Thank you

I got it. I was working with security personal WPA2 on both devices. I removed the security completely and both devices connect then. I then used to fix, WEP. The two devices communicate with WEP.

  • Installation of Repeater WAP54G

I have a WRT54G Router and it has been fine for years of work.  I have 2 wireless computers within 20 feet of the router and 4 others across the House.  I get a weak signal across the House, so I bought a WAP54G renovated in the hope of making a Repeater near these 4 devices for better reception.  I followed the instructions provided by Cisco for setting this up as a Repeater and read through most of the messages on this topic but no luck.

I changed the MAC address of the WAP54G to the MAC of the router and changed wireless Repeater Mode.  I also left the IP address of the WAP54G as 192.168.1.245 but I do not see the Repeater at all from any computer.  I put the radio channel of the same (Ch6) but the SID is different.  The only way I can see the WAP54G is if I plug it directly into the WRT54G Router.

The only thing I noticed in the instructions of Cisco is that they show a WRT54G Router wired to a WAP54G and WAP54G, then another at the other end of the facility with a computer cable attached to it.  Does this mean that you need two (2) WAP54G of this works?  I assumed that you need only one (1) WAP54G and one (1) router WRT54G with the WAP54G as repeaters.

Can anyone help?  It's very frustrating.

I was chatting with Linksys for over an hour and still could not get this to work.  I also scanned the internet for all the forums that I could find, and it seems that many people cannot get a WAP54G to work as a Repeater with a WRT54G.  I am convinced that it will not work.  I send my return WAP54G Monday and bought a place WRE.

  • WAP54G Access Point using wireless mode, but not worked. :(

    I bought today WAP54G.
My son and I have PC but we distance between our room each other and
wireless signal is not strong enough sometimes.
My son has wired Internet w / WRT54GS router and I have wireless

Cat w / Linksys rep, the other day and he recommended buying WAP54G and I could leave this AP @ salon and do not need to have the connection cable.

Anyway, I don't know how to install this customer service, called today
and she told me that I need to install the CD in my computer. But there is no
connection by cable or router and I cannot install CD in my computer.
So, I installed the CD in the PC of my son who has wired Internet and
router. The installation has been completed.
After the installation, turn off AP and move on to the living room.
Then, there is no "link" light on. Lamp only Power and act on.

    Please let me know:
    1. can I use this without wired access point?
I would like to implement the AP @ living room (between my son and my room)

connection and cannot install the CD.

I am very beginner wireless and PC so please tell me step by step.
I read manual and I used the installation CD Wizard but still do not work.

    Please someone help me.

I think that you must configure your AP as Repeater wireless... Follow the link here , make sure that when you set your Access Point to the "Wireless Repeater" mode, this device will communicate only with a different Access Point Linksys (WAP54G) and wireless G of Linksys (WRT54G) router...

  • WAP54G as Repeater. PC connected but no internet.

    router: WRT160N (v2)

    AP/Repeater: WAP54G (v3.1)

    firmware: updated

First of all, I read that WAP54G is not listed to support WRT160n (didn't know up to this than purchased).

Problem: I got the program to install my router and AP (now coach) as assumed.

    same channel

    same ssid

    same network mode

same level of security (no current)

A wireless laptop has been able to connect to the Repeater with 100% signal, but it cannot access the internet. He says "limited or no internet access" or something along the line.

    What I am doing wrong?

It is connected but cannot access the internet? No idea why?

Is my only option wap54g back?

Goal: to connect my PS3 with 100% signal to my router wireless very far from another corner of the House.

The only mode where the WAP54G expects no Ethernet connection is Repeater mode, all other modes can expect an Ethernet connection.

    Scenario a.

    WRT160N connected to a switch.

WAP54G wired to the same nework as switch.

Another WAP54G in mode (not wired) Repeater to extend the range.

    Scenario B

WRT54GL (can be wired to spend or not)

WAP54G (no cable) in Repeater mode for extending the range.

All the foregoing are valid connections.

Note: while the WAP54G is indicated only talk to the another WAP54G or a WRT54G in Repeater/bridge modes the WRT54GL is of the same family and should work, or if our local agent of Cisco says. We have not tested this.

  • Linksys WRT54g + WAP54g setup help

Yes I know im using a material more older, but its what I have available lol. Hoping someone can help out me. its been listen to me like hell.

play with it for a few days and I can not understand
its driving me crazy lol hope someone can help.

    Here's the Setup program.

WRT54g router is configured in A with connection Wi - Fi on.
Laptop to wireless connection point C , which lies on the opposite side of the House. so that means that it is very weak signal.

    now looks like A-C

Now, I tried to put WAP54g to the point B , so that she could get the signal to the point and he raises so that the signal can reach the point C

so, it looks like now a C-B - less is what im trying to accomplish.

the wap54g does for AP mode and I tried all the MS and cannot operate. IM missing a step, i just don't know where lol

    Access point
    The AP client
Wireless Repeater (it seemed like the obvious choice, but it does not work or I did wrong)
    Wireless Bridge

    can anyone?

    Thank you

If you are referring to my previous post, you can configure your access point in Repeater mode and router and wireless access point communicates and it will send the signal wireless to your laptop. If you want to connect the AP wired to the router then configure the AP in AP Mode.

  • Wireless-G Access Point WAP54G & Thompson SpeedTouch ST585

For the life of me, I can't get this device to work. I am trying to create a point of access to a device not pc a FTA Receiver. The FTA Receiver needs access to the internet and works very well with an ethernet cable. I had hoped to use the WAP54G as a wireless connection. The installation CD does not recognize the modem/router Thompson SpeedTouch ST585 so I've been using the web to access the settings of the WAP54G. I did some readings using Google search and access via the web, I had to leave it white instead of enter "admin" after that tumble down the Userid first discovered, always through Google, I have tried setting the SSID, the same name as the SpeedTouch ST585 "INFINITUMB69844" done more reading I found that I needed to set the security on the WAP54G are the same on the SpeedTouch ST585 in my case as WEP passphrase window and set the WEP encryption key and press the button generate, which filled up all the empty spaces of keys. I am on windows XP and the fact a network routine from the control panel and also the repair option. Still no go. Unity of FTA, I am trying to connect has a DHCP option auto who will fill the IP address once it connects to the network so far all I get is zero, it does not connect. I need help with the settings. I did put my PC IP static or tried other methods suggested on Google. I thought to ask the experts. Please help me. Chris

How you try to configure your Access Point and where are you going to connect this AP?

As you mentioned that you have a Thompson Speedtouch router, and that you have entered the same settings wireless to your router to the AP, and if you plan to connect the AP to another device, then it is not not possible.

WAG54G will work only in Repeater Mode / Mode Bridge that with the Linksys router, with all other routers it only works in a Mode Access Point, it means you need to keep this access point wired to your Thompson Speedtouch modem always.

  • Repeat a Repeater

    Hello

I try to get a Linksys WAP54G to repeat an another WAP54G put in place as a Repeater as well (in fact, increasing the distance between the access point).  The other is to repeat a WRT54G configured as AP.

    Is it still possible?

And, if so, how to set up the units?

BTW, the system now works fine - both the WRT and WAP are send and receive signals without problems.

    Thank you!

Replicating settings from the first on the second WAP54G WAP54G.

The second WAP54G differences will be.

Camera IP, this must be unique.

MAC address in the Repeater mode MAC filter table will be the MAC address of the first WAP54G.

All other settings will be the same.
