WEP, wpa or wpa2

I have a TP-LINK wireless router
I work with laptop and I want to change the configuration of the router to WPA2 instead of WEP
But every time I try to make the change I meet an error that the network settings do not match the settings of the computer or something like that.
What could be the problem?

A better place would be to ask here:

Your wireless router controls the security of the network.  What kind of security provided by your wireless router?  The most common these days security is WPA2.  Windows XP did not support WPA2 until Service Pack 3.  The fact that it requires a WEP/WPA key would imply that it does not support WPA2.  You do not indicate what version / service pack of Windows you have, so my advice is to upgrade your computer to XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), and then try again.  Navigate the site Support/downloads from the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if a newer driver wireless is available for your computer.

Otherwise, find the manual of your router wireless and network security check/change to something that supports your laptop.

  • WPA and wpa2 on the same SSID

    Hello Experts!

I have wpa and wpa2 on the same SSID available for two types of users?

    Kind regards

    Miguel

    Miguel,

While you can activate both it is best to select only 1 of them, but if you choose to have active both, I recommend that configure you them as follows:

    WPA - TKIP only

    WPA2 - AES only

    Thank you

  • Satellite P20: no but only encryption WEP WPA

Updated my P20 for win XP pro media edition, but unable to connect to the network wireless as the network options only lists WEP and not WPA. Checked and I have SP2 installed and reinstalled the drivers wireless but still not WPA.

    Someone knows why?

The WLan card support WPA encryption before upgrading to Windows XP pro?
I think that he didn t supports this encryption.
To my knowledge the encryption supported depends on the card WLan and not WLan (pilot) software. If the WLan card doesn't support WPA so you will not be able to use this encryption.

  • New router and effect of the change of the WPA to WPA2 security settings

I plan on modernization of our old router, and I am seriously considering the Nighthawk AC R7000. When I do, I also intend to upgrade our present security WiFi WPA failing Nighthawk, WPA2-PSK (AES). I hope, however, to keep the old router same SSID and password, change only the security level. My thought is that all client devices would be able to connect with no reconfiguration. This would be the case, but is this the case?
Thank you very much for your help!

Unless it is old enough, he should support WPA2. In the settings of wireless devices, there should be the possibility to select the encryption, and you can see if it is in the list.

  • mixed mode wpa2/wpa vs WPA2 security

What is the advantage of using the security setting "wpa/wpa2 mixed mode" vs wpa2? Mixed mode is set as a single parameter as wpa2 security?

    Thank you

In mixed mode, you can connect with WPA/TKIP and WPA2/AES. TKIP is not as safe as AES. Use only if possible ESA. However, some former clients wireless are WPA/TKIP alone which can you leave no choice but to use mixed mode.

In addition, 802.11n only supports AES for 54 Mbps speeds.

Except if you must use mixed mode use WPA2/AES only.

  • Two networks different encryption WEP/WPA is possible?

Hello, I have the wrh54g wireless in my desktop pc using WPA encryption and I have a laptop that can't accept WEP. How can I add another network in the preferred networks with WEP encryption for my laptop? Please notify. Thank you. Menk

You can not. The WRH54G only supports one radio, one SSID and unique wireless security settings. You set the WEP network and run the risk that someone cracks your wireless networks or you leave in WPA and supported upgrade laptop computer with a wireless card/adapter that supports WPA (unless of course, there is a wire level or similar available for the card in the laptop).

  • Unrecognized WEP password

trying to help my son to set up the Linksys WRT546. Wireless works very well if the Security Mode is off, but when I've set to WEP and enter a password, generate and save and then try to connect to the network, I keep getting invalid password. I can then switch to rear view Disable and name appears without password, but at least works.

Why is it not the password that I entered on the site of the wireless security, not recognized?

    Thank you

    Armando

    Hello

If you want to use WEP, it just type anything in the PASSWORD field, and then copy the KEY 1, because that which will serve as your PASSWORD. If you use WEP 64-bit, it will generate a 10-character password, as you can see the button 1-4. But, if you want to use your own password and not let the router generate one for you, please select WPA instead. Please see the link below.

  • Cannot open the network

I have a HP dv6000 that, until recently, I had connected to Comcast over a modem and was able to connect other computers in my house with this 'parent '.

through a router.  I went to a unit which is connected to the same modem and router and the other computers in the House continue to work perfectly with this link.  I can not however the HPdv6000 to connect, even sitting in front of the new office and the message, 'the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network.

I can't find any reference anywhere to this kind of problem.  Again, the laptop worked perfectly when it is connected directly to the Comcast modem and worked well in airports when it is used with a connection of the battery.

Can someone help me understand how to set the parameters of the computer or network settings to make this laptop really functional in my own home?

    Thank you in advance.

The parameters of this message is referring to is usually your wireless security settings. You must ensure that you have the correct method of encryption (WEP, WPA, or WPA2), the correct encryption method (PSK/TKIP) and the correct encryption key.

Also, to clarify a bit, do you mean that you use the office as a wireless router using the inside wireless card to serve as a wireless access point by using the connection Ethernet Cat - 5 to connect to the internet?

Perhaps to solve this problem we need a fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885453/en-us), but microsoft support said to contact the laptop manufacturer.
Can someone help me with this problem?

Hmmm I m not an expert in this area, but it seems that the MS OS update is necessary. (I hope)
The preinstalled Windows operating system is a simple OEM version and generally all updates should be possible. However, if MS guys told you to communicate with the manufacture of the laptop, you can contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for details.

But I studied a bit on the net and found this site useful:

    a. reintroduce the same RADIUS secret in your wireless router and the RADIUS server.
    b. configure your RADIUS server to accept the request of the RADIUS of the IP address of your router.
    c. use ping to check the accessibility of router-server.
    d. package watch LAN account to verify that RADIUS and answers queries are fluid.

2 if RADIUS is flowing but are rejected requests for access, you may have a problem of incompatibility or credential X Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) 802.1. This setting depends on Type EAP. For example, if your RADIUS server requires EAP - TLS, then select 'Card chip or other certificate' of your adapter wireless network properties / authentication Panel. If your RADIUS server requires PEAP, then select "Protected EAP" of the adapter. If your RADIUS server requires EAP-TTLS, then you will need a third-party wireless like AEGIS or in Odyssey client.
Make sure that this specific EAP properties match for your adapter and the server, including the server CA certificate root trust Server domain name (optional but must match when it is specified) and the customer (EAP-MSCHAPv2, EAP - GTC) authentication method. When you use PEAP, use the control panel to 'Configure' CHAP to prevent Windows from automatically re-use of your connection.

  • Secure wifi WinXP will connect via static IP

Resurrect a laptop Vaio to factory XP install and have encountered a small problem. The operating system is updated with SP3. The on-board Intel 2200BG however not will connect DHCP when the signal is secure. I tried WEP, WPA and WPA2 on the router and the network profiles with no luck. Other 802.11 g wireless devices are connected properly and is functioning normally. Curiously, the Vaio will connect DHCP when security is totally removed from the signal.

I deleted and recreated the profile of network several times, UN and re-installed the wireless adapter (also removed the inf and Directory Windows/INF pnf files) and I tried the drivers from Sony and Intel. Same question.

I cycled power for the modem and the router and flushed the dns cache, and I tried ipconfigs release and renew as well. No help there.

Here are the best... the Vaio will implement a SECURE connection IF a static IP is assigned to it.

In summary, DHCP works if there is no security. If wireless security is used then the IP address must be static.

    Confused!

Hmm, not so fast. The question came back. However, rose again. The battery on this laptop Vaio is in its death throws. To prevent it causing a fire, we simply abducted and executed the Vaio directly from the power supply socket wall. It is essentially a desktop pc light for us anyway. Afer redefine the Vaio settings factory and re - install the operating system, get all updates and purge all the Vaio * which blocks the OS, it came to light than a Sony program named ISBMgr.exe "was is the work" Although ineffective. The ISBMgr monitors battery Vaio and begins to change things down as battery power is fading. Well, no battery installed it was {confusing} everything it should be and that it prevented the WiFi adapter shipped to the secure connection. After the purge file ISBMgr Program Files/Sony and then scouring the registry for what whether containing ISBMgr a reboot has provided a fast, automatic and secure connection. Yay! Yes, I accept Paypal! ;)

    Hi SueWolde,

    1. what happens when you try to connect to the network?

    2. you receive an error message/code?

    3. you are on a computer in the domain?

You may encounter network or problems of Internet in Windows for several reasons. Some common problems that can cause these problems are:

    • A wireless network adapter switch that is not enabled
    • WEP, WPA, or WPA2 key or password security issues
    • Cables that are not connected correctly
    • Corrupt or incompatible drivers
    • Missing updates
    • Network connection settings
    • Hardware or software problems

Try these steps and see if it helps.

    Step 1

One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a package of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or altered. If you can't connect to the Internet and you have tried all other methods to solve the problem, TCP/IP can be causing it.

See the help article to reset the Internet (TCP/IP) Protocol.

    Step 2

Refer to the help article and check if that helps:
