Why my Dell laptop freezes so often?

My laptop crashes maybe every 20 or 30 seconds for about 10 to 15 seconds. It does not matter what I do if I am on the internet or if I use some software.  I checked for malware and viruses.  I tried patches from microsoft.  I have 60 gigs of space on my hard drive.  I have 1 GB of ram.  I deleted programs that I don't use. I'm still a little. I defragmented the hard drive.  I cleaned the registry.  I used the microsoft cleaner disc and tried other things that I don't remember. I appreciate everything encourages deep and contribute to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

"I cleaned the registry.<-- red="">

In truth - it looks like you did most of the things that I would recommend to someone trying to clean their machine.  Your best choice - honestly - this is a new installation.  Back up everything you'll need (installation media, product keys, your data) and correctly install the operating system updated with the latest service pack, install the latest hardware device drivers * web pages of * individual builders, install your antivirus and hop on the Internet to update the other 100 + post-SP3 updates for Windows XP before you install other programs.

I mean - you can run through this list...  But you said you do most (but with the twhat products - who knows.  There may be something here, you missed)

Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know usingGoogle (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

You can run disk - integrated into Windows XP - cleanup to erase everything except your last restore point and yet more 'free '... files cleaning

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
2. click on the System Restore tab.
3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
-Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
-Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and temporary files and use it to get rid of those who:

Cleaning the components of update on your Windows XP computer

While probably not 100% necessary-, it is probably a good idea at this time to ensure that you continue to get the updates you need. This will help you ensure that your system update is ready to do it for you.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
(Ignore the details and download the tool to download and save to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

Download/install the latest program Windows installation (for your operating system):
(Windows XP 32-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3 - x 86 .exe )
(Download and save it to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

and...

Download the latest version of Windows Update (x 86) agent here:
http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91237
... and save it to the root of your C:\ drive. After you register on theroot of the C:\ drive, follow these steps:

Close all Internet Explorer Windows and other applications.

AutoScan--> RUN and type:
%SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE
--> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

Reset.

Now reset your Windows with this FixIt components update (you * NOT * use the aggressive version):
How to reset the Windows Update components?

Reset.

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing youpouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

If you want, come back and let us know a bit more information on your system - particularly the brand / model of the system, you have - and maybe someone here can guide you to the place s x of law to this end. This isn't 100% necessary - but I'd be willing to bet that you would gain some performance and features in making this part.

  • White veil and freeze ups on Windows 7 64 bit (new Dell laptop)

Why am I the white veil and freeze ups on Windows 7 64 bit (new Dell laptop)? It happens on two identical machines. They have both been back at least three times at the shop. One looks a bit better, the other not.

If you say in Device Manager there are yellow warnings that it would usually be due to a problem with the chipset or usb drivers.

If you're telling the problem is only with the particular usb ports it may be related to internal wiring/connections, and if yes is not user serviceable

  • Have a computer dell laptop. replaced the hard drive; tried to install my Windows XP and my product key is not accepted. I was wondering why and how do to accomplish this task.

My dell laptop had the hard drive replaced.  My son, who knows computers, installed the new hard drive.  Then he tried to install my Windows XP Professional software - when it came time to put the product key #, it was not accepted.  It's authentic.  The product key is: * removed *.

There no mention of this issue in section outages or other information provided in the booklet provided.  Can you help me with this problem?

The license key and product type must match (XP Home vs XP Pro;)  (and OEM license vs the retail license).  If it's a Dell computer and you get the product key from a sticker on the case, then there is likely a version of Windows XP OEM this product key.  If you install Windows XP from a retail installation disk, then the types of licenses will not match.  You will need to use the license that accompanies the retail installation disc or you will need to contact Dell for an OEM installation disc to go with the license on your sticker case.

  • Why can't I do a clean install on my Dell laptop?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop SE 7720 computer a few months ago. I would like to do a clean install with the installation disc that Dell sent me for the computer. But, when I try to install Windows 7 the DART player does not appear in the select drive window to install. The window is empty. I put the driver CD that was sent with the disc of Windows 7 Instillation. And it says drivers not found. I installed systems before, but I've never run it before. Hope that it helps. Maybe someone else has gone through this.

When you install Windows, the installation disc normally contains the drivers required to run your disk controllers HARD is connected to, and as such, you will see the HARD drive and be able to create partitions, etc as and install.

If for any reason, the controller drivers are not on the installation disc, you will not see the HARD drive and have nothing to the partition. This lack of a good pilots can occur if the controller is a RAID card or the motherboard controller manages the RAID functionality and installation disc doesn't know about them.

Normally drives OEM must contain all the drivers for your specific hardware, so maybe you have the wrong disc or the disc has not been good...

To work around this problem, when Windows Installer boots drive upward, you always get an option to press F6 and then load the appropriate drivers for the controller used (for the motherboard or raid card).

Not knowing your laptop card mother, I assume you have a chipset intel AHCI + RAID features. You can check this by starting at the current operating system and looking at the Device Manager where you should see "Standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller" or "Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset STAT RAID Controller". If you see the later, you must find the Dell IRST driver and download it. Yes, you have TSRI and this driver should be correct.

After downloading, run the executable that should create directories, to not proceed with the installation. Check to see if there is a Readme in the directory created and/or an F6 disk (or something similar) directory. Read the "readme." If there is a floppy F6 directory, place this directory on a USB key and when you start windows installation disc, press F6 and insert the stcik USB into the laptop and go to the F6 floppy disk to the USB directory by selecting the appropriate drivers. Windows Installer should then continue and you should see your HARD drive.

Once you have installed Windows, make another trip to the dell laptop driver page and update all the relevant drivers to the most recent available

    I hope this helps...

  • Solaine Veera - why in the computer Dell laptop, Windows 7 Internet problems occur?

    Hey,.

I'm Smayak Veera and work for a COMPUTER company in the United States.

I bought a Dell laptop for a few months now, and it is constantly with a watch "No Internet access" in the yellow icon. It is always the e-mail that I am connected but do not have access to the internet and I can not open Web pages, I own every connection and they are connected well. If I unplug the router and reconnect it works very well for 30-60 minutes but then I get the new icon.

Now, of course, I could just evey time turn off and re activate the connector wireless after every half hour but its boring and would rather it was fixed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Waiting for your quick response.

    Kind regards

    Solaine Veera

Always include the exact model number and the version of Windows in your messages. And if it's a laptop, next time post in the forum of the laptop .

If I understand correctly, you are using a wireless connection to the router. Have you checked the Windows settings to see if WiFi is turned off "to save energy? Look in device for an entry-level WiFi Manager and double-click it to open it. If there is a power management tab, click it and look for a box "allow the PC shuts off... "and uncheck the box. Then restart.

Can the router is having issues?

Have you checked with your ISP?

  • Satellite M50: laptop freezing problem

    Hello

Problems with a fairly new M50. Recently it started to freeze, can only switch with switch / stop. It takes at least 15 minutes before trying again as it always freezes the OS front. But after that time will always leave you on the operating system. But sometimes it will freeze in the operating system after 20 minutes. Reformatted 3 times and had run it once for 3 hours, but with an error messages like "mobile political load failed" and the missing drivers. Later frozen after restart of the 3rd.

Can't understand why the delay? Search for viruses, etc., expelled Toshiba but no found hardware probs? Any suggestions? Is it a super virus that damaged the HD?

    Hi Alaux

You reinstall the operating system with the recovery CD?
If this isn't the case, please pick up the unit with the recovery CD. This CD is put on trial and the laptop it works without any problem.
But if you used the recovery CD and the laptop freezes and has problems, please, don t install any 3rd programs. Check if the laptop if it works to clean the BONES.

You are in the forum MS Security Essentials anti-malware and anti-virus advice.  You should repost in the Windows forum.  However, here are some quick suggestions.

    (1) do you notice this always or only when certain applications are running?  Uninstall and reinstall these applications.
    (2) how many times you restart your PC?  If you are on a Vista OS, you must restart quite often (daily).
    (3) have you ever 'cleaned' temporary files?  If your PC can accommodate, if you run many applications (enough to force windows to exchange the hard disk in the background) etc, your PC can accumulate a lot of tmp files that slow things down as he tries to understand what it takes to run and what to leave to sleep.  Download and run the free and safe application called ccleaner, which will it clean up automatically when you start.
    (4) the concern of lines vertical me... don't know if it's just an artifact of graphics drivers try to follow on a PC that freezes or an indication of a problem.  You may need to call support for your laptop.

  • Computer Dell laptop with Windows 7, upgrade to IE9 and now the computer is slow

Original title: did someone really knows what I need to do?

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 (I have set accidetally to level internet explorer to 9 widows. I need to Java and Adobe. But my computer is slow. I do not know what prorams that I need to run start or to uninstall... Someone really knows what I need to do?

FYI: with a topic like this, you have 2 strikes against you. Most of the people don't bother wasting time looking to see what your problem...  Next time be brief and specific about your problem, is to give an application (with version) and the code error or describe your problem briefly.

If you don't want to be a Guinea pig, you can follow these instructions to uninstall Explorer 9:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Internet-Explorer/help/IE-9/How-do-i-install-or-uninstall-Internet-Explorer-9

Looks like you want to control the programs that run at startup, right? It is always a good thing to do. You can run MSCONFIG (type in the search window on the start menu).  See the "Startup" tab  So, you can use other applications to display the same information. For example, CCleaner has a 'tool' that does the same thing.  NirSoft does: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_run_in_startup.html

Browse the list of questions, and if you decide all. For example many applications load stub apps to speed up their startup. If you do not use all the days of the app, uncheck the box and it does not load.  If you do not recognize, this is often the case, track the location of path or to register 'Command' to try to understand what program it is for.  Use google to search for file names. Other people have asked the same question and got answers on the importance of the application is.

Related, another thing to work is 'Services' (new type who, in the start menu, look for the window). They are a special software that runs in the background to provide services such as faxing or printing. Yet once, often you need not all services.  You can find a lot of information on how to do this in Google search for "Harden Win XP" or related expressions. They call it "Soak" because in this context deactivation of services makes your computer safer, more 'hard' hack by eliminating the places to be hacked.  Don't you worry that many of the articles are 5 or more years, they will be still valid.  Here are some links to help you get started:

My laptop freezes after exactly 2 minutes. I don't get the problem when booting in safe mode. What follows is a generic response.
Among the measures that you have already done.

There are many reasons why a PC "behaves" in this way.

These boring "desynchronization" can be caused by an overloaded hard drive, CPU overworked, Malware, 2 AV, useless data, browser addons, or you can have unnecessary programs running in the background, etc...

What follows is a series of steps that you want to try troubleshooting...

    * Make sure that all the intake/exhaust vents are clean as well as fans.
Download some software temp monitoring for cpu, gpu.

    * This could be a hard drive that goes wrong or corrupt.
To check a hard training see Check Disk...
    Run the disk check.

    * In a Directors account type cmd in search.
    Type sfc/scannow in cmd.
This report and solve minor problems.
Take note of what is said at the end.
Your computer should freeze, try to do the tests in safe mode.

    * Go to search, type Manager devices and look for the yellow warning markers.

    * If overclocking, restore to the original.

    * Try in safe mode; report back if it works properly.

    * Minimum. You to find out what is causing your problem.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

    * Run a scan with Malwarebytes.
Please download the free version of Malwarebytes.
    Update immediately.
Do a full scan of the system
Let us know the results at the end.

List of all security software that you had already installed & currently now have on your computer please.

    * Browser addons can create problems.
Check how much you have on your browsers.
Each & every one is really necessary?
