  • It is safe to connect to the internet to update XP if the computer has not been used for a good year or so?

Hi all - I have another laptop which has remained unused for probably over a year or more, and I want to start using it again. It works under XP, and currently has Service Pack 2 installed. My question is: is it safe to connect to the internet now and start downloading all the required Windows updates? My concern is that, as just like the anti-virus, firewall, even Windows itself have not been updated in so long, it would be imprudent to start the internet connection at this point? Is it safe to go forward and to connect and update, or is it better to download updates etc on another computer, put it on a disc/USB and then use it to install updates? Thanks in advance!

Consider that he is therefore authorized to connect the computer to our broadband services to update the anti-anti-virus/firewall?

Yes, as long as the firewall is turned on and that's the first thing you do online (i.e., no surfing, no audit e-mail, no chat, no download of anything else).

The Windows Security Center will let you know if something went wrong.

  • Update on a laptop that has not been used in almost 1 year

My husbands cell phone has not been used since last October. He was diagnosed with leukaemia, shortly after he had and has not shown an interest to learn to use it until now. It has Windows 8 and we want to do the free update of Windows 10. The laptop wants to 79 updates before we start download Windows 10. He has been on and downloading these updates for more than 3 hours and the screen still says 0% complete. Is it normal to take so long after being unused for so long? Husband and I went to the challenge of the technology. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are many updates and update process may take several hours. You can suddenly find that updates show that almost complete.

If there is anything on the laptop that you want to keep:

Download and create a Windows 8.1 installation media and do a clean install of it. See creating installation for Windows 8.1 media. Accepting any offer to install updates during installation. 8.1 Windows installation media last will accept the keys to Windows 8. If your key is in the BIOS of the laptop, it will be detected automatically.

At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to upgrade to Windows 10 and will be able to do an immediate upgrade Windows 10 without updating the Windows 8.1 installation.

Visit the support of the manufacturer of your laptop to see if there are model specific drivers you need. Installing Windows 8.1 and 10 will not provide the latest drivers.

If you want to keep the existing installed applications and files, you can create 8.1 Windows installation media and run the setup.exe on it then in Windows 8.

You can download the Vista SP2 standalone installer:

To see if you have Windows 32 or 64-bit:

1 open the system by clicking the Start button, right-click computer, and then clicking Properties.

    2. in respect of the system, you can view the type of system, it will say 32 or 64 bits.

  • My new HP Pavilion has not been tested for Windows 8. Why not?

My Windows 7 HP Pavilion, model 520-1040 with a touchscreen was sold to me in July by Harvey Norman - as well as advice that it was designed in preparation for Windows 8.

Today on the HP site I checked for more information on the upgrade to Windows 8.

After I entered the product number of the computer, QU392AA #ABG, I received the message that "HP has not tested this PC" and told me that if I switch to Windows 8, I can lose nombreauses & stability.

Does anyone know if or when HP will address this issue?

    .

The models tested HP and drivers for computers built after seven of 2011. It sounds as if your model has been built in this period (even if the model you provided pulled up a touchsmart). When Windows 8 release, make sure to run Windows Update after installation. Windows Update provides drivers and firmwire provided to Microsoft by the manufacturer.

If you do, that one is the built-in Administrator account. By default, there is no password. Logon to it and again

If ping works, then it means that the connection is OK.

So there seems to be other (routing) problems with the network configuration.

Have you checked the setting of the connection and the setting in your security software (firewall)?

It works if you start the computer in SafeMode (F8 at the startup screen), with if necessary network support?

  • (KB2656368): updated said successfully completed, but has not been

Using Windows Update on my Latitude D400, WIN XP Professional SP3 that I had installed the other critical updates, whose one - KB2656368. I had returned to WIN Update in order to install the April update/malware scanner when to my surprise I saw that, KB2656368, was NOT installed, after getting a notice to install successfully.  Install the history has shown that it is installed; When searching on 'Add program remove' Listing was NOT there.  I tried to install it alone (again) - no joy - he said yes {(montre maintenant dans l'histoire comme ayant été installé deux fois!), but it was not.}  There is no error codes like one hand, the other was not - that is correct.  I had all the viruses and malware programs not installed or disabled. I had problems with updates in the past on several systems, but I have never seen this.  Finally all my checks for malware or virus reports are clean, all the Temp and Temp Internet files are deleted every day.

Thank in advance you for your time and your help.

Please someone help me to solve this problem, I'm literally crazy that I have to change in my address and I am constantly hanging up to different monitors, claiming a different workspace from most of the time. Thanks in advance.

To be clear, I can't see the Ripper of group and therefore having to reset my workspace everytime I want to anchor a group of panels not anchored.

You are right. The ability to move a panel group has been removed as part of the redesign of the user interface which started in CC2014.1. I'm bored, too. If you are so inclined, you can submit a request/complaint to the www.adobe.com/go/wish.
