Windows 7 hangs at "expand our files."

Try installing Windows 7 beta from iso and it reached "Takes the expansion of files" and hangs there forever to 0%.  Have tried to create the virtual machine as the two Vista and Server 2008, the two crashes at the same point.  Drive is on iSCSI, iso on my local machine. HD is 40 GB and RAM is 2 GB.  I see that it works for other people - what am I missing?  We run vCenter 2.5 with Cluster ESX 3.5.

Help?

Thank you

  • Windows Explorer hangs when copying large files on external USB drive

I'm trying to copy files over 1 GB of my pc to a WD MyBook external drive. After about 10% on the progress indicator, Windows Explorer crashes. When I cancel the work, nothing happens until I unplug the USB. Then I have the pc returns to normal.

During my research, I discovered that a lot of people have this problem. I have tried many suggestions, but without result. The last thing I tried was a full format the C: drive with a fresh install of Vista. Copy a large file gave me the message 'Calculating time' infinite. After you have installed SP1 reappeared the problem as explained above.

Some of the things I've tried:
check the external hard drive: no problem found and the problem occurs on all my MesLivres 3
    safe mode
    Superfetching disabled
    update the motherboard bios

Now my last request resource helps professionals. If I don't find a solution I'll have to go back to XP, achieve Win7 or one rating for Mac... a lot of things to think about.

Try to copy in safe mode. If can be a slow usb port. Try anther one.

  • Windows Explorer hangs when opening office files

Windows Explorer crashes when opening files on the desktop.

The accident occurred when going back (or hit the back button) when a desktop folder is used.

After a few weeks of frustration, I've isolated a few things that makes it a little easier to deal with, and maybe this will help some members of the community help me pinpoint the problem.

I've exhausted trying to use system restore system backups.

I discovered the stops 'window launch folder in a separate process' the 5-10 sec reload of the Windows desktop.

Open the folder by opening a window of the Explorer than navigating to C; \Users\USER-ME\Desktop does NOT cause the error; just when you open the folder 'from' the office.  (which goes against the convenience to keep files open on the desktop at first project)

I suppose that as a last resort, I could start using a location (like C; \MyDesktop) place the files in there, and then create shortcuts to them.

I was about to do an installation of Windows o/s before you find the option 'split the process' & isolate when & how it occurred (as first of all, I thought it was totally random)

The only unusual thing that occurred near the time of the problem was trying to uninstall [Google Drive] that crashed due to a security locking violation.  I reinstalled today, uninstalled mode safe, found guilty folder (... AppData \Local\Google\..) used 'Take Ownership' and then finished. But after a registry cleaning & several resets, the problem persists, then maybe it was just a coincidence.

There are a lot of reasons, it may happen, but my guess is a failed shell extension.  She's going to Extensions are what adds options to the context menus you see when you right-click on various things.  The hull of the Office is different from cases, even if a program (like Google) added an option to the menu in both places, so it is possible for one to have a problem.  You might be familiar with the common shell extensions, like "Scan this file with Norton" click on menus and others.

You can use a program like shell ShellExView to disable the extensions one by one to help out.  Although my personal dose of this situation is to create a new user account on the computer, then do drag your files into the new account, and delete the one damaged.

    Hi HBrown Gordon,

In order to focus more on your particular situation, I shared your post to a new thread.

Please take a look at the following information through Wunders in a previous post:

The work of Windows Explorer is to consider what is in the disk and its directory and present this information to the user.  If the disk or the disk directories are corrupted, it confuses Windows Explorer and can lead to lock.  Whenever Windows Explorer crashes, the first step should be to achieve a check disk (chkdsk) with the /f or/r option.

"How to perform disk error in Windows XP check"

Check disk can usually take hours depending on the speed and the size of the hard drive.  If corruption is present, it may take more time.  Plan on execution of the audit during the night or when you won't need your computer for awhile.  In addition, if corruption is present, files may be lost.  If possible, save what you can before you run the disk check.

    Hope that helps!

    Hello

Disconnect all external devices from the computer and try to restart the computer and check what is happening.

    Step 1:

Try to boot to the desktop in safe mode and check what is happening. Only basic files and drivers needed to run Windows are started. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic as possible cause device drivers. To start in safe mode follow the link.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:

If you are able to boot to the desktop in Mode safe, it means that the third-party application prevents the computer from starting in normal mode. To check you can configure the computer to clean start State and then try to boot into normal mode and check what is happening. To set up its own start-up follow the link below.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

If the problem does not continues when the computer is in the clean start State follow the steps listed to identify which application is causing the problem.

Note: When you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7 article to start on normal startup.

  • Windows Explorer hangs in vista

I use windows vista home edition and using widows Explorer to find files, etc, if there is a problem, that is to say wireless hub or permissions, then explore just hangs. Manager tasks cannot stop the Explorer, the only solution seems to be reset. Why I left XP? y at - it update?

    Hello Greensleeves2001,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft answers Forum.

Since Windows Explorer hangs when you perform a search to find files, it is possible that your search index may be corrupted or unusable. So, it is quite easy to rebuild the search index.

Click on the start ORB, in the start search box, type index. Then select the Indexing Options of instant search, which will be at the top of the list.
Click Advanced, and then select Rebuild to rebuild the index from scratch.

This will take a while to complete, so don't choose not to do this if you are just finishing a task.

If please reply back and let us know if it helped to solve your problem

    Sincerely,

  • Error when you try to play the downloaded tracks: Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. (((PLEASE HELP)))

I understand that this has been a matter of repetition and I made the suggestions listed and nothing works. This just started happening, although downloading songs, and once they are finished I'm not able to play them with Windows Media Player. The initial message indicates that the file has an extension that is not recognized by Windows Media Player.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows Vista Home. Any suggestions? What should I chahnge how I download and save music?

    Hey Taylor09,

You may find that you are getting this message in Windows Media Player due to one of the following reasons.

    a. you try to play a file that is not supported by the player.

    b. you are trying to play a file that the player does not support, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the player.

    Step 1:

Confirm that you are trying to play a supported file type. The following article lists the types of files (formats) supported by Windows Media Player.

Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player

Note that if you tried to play the file type is included in this table, the file might have been encoded with a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. If this is the case, Windows Media Player cannot play the file.

    Step 2:

Download the necessary codec to play the file.

For more information of Codec, see: Codecs: frequently asked questions
