I have Windows vista Ultimate edition. but he started asking for activation after the windows update while it has already been activated before the update.

    Hello, Pichon,

If Windows Vista application unexpected activation

On rare occasions, you may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer that did not previously require Windows Vista activation or has already been activated successfully. For example, this may occur on a computer on which Windows Vista was preinstalled by an OEM installation or Volume licensing and are major hardware changes occurred, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time.

If you are prompted to reactivate Windows Vista, you can do this by using the Windows Activation Wizard to:

    1. Click Start, and then click computer.
    2. Click System Properties on the toolbar, and then click click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation area. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
    3. Select the Windows Vista activation method that you want, and then follow the instructions.

To avoid this problem in the future, obtain the latest service pack for your version of Windows Vista, either through automatic updates or direct download.

To update to Windows Vista and prevent this activation problem does not happen:

    1. Click Start, click all programs, and then click Windows Update.
    2. Click find updates.
    3. As soon as Windows Vista found the updates, click the install updates button.

    Hi B_Tan,

Please take a look at the following information previously published by TaurArian:

Some have reported that simply re-register the MSXML3. DLL seems to fix the problem.
    1. click on start.
    2. choose Execute.
    3. in the run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3. DLL
    Press OK

If this did not help, you may be re-recorded some files more:

    1. click on start.
    2. choose Execute.
    3. in the run box, type (pressing well after each one): -.

    net stop wuauserv

    Repeat the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll

    regsvr32 wuweb.dll
    Regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
    regsvr32 qmgr.dll
    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

So where and how can I know what updates I need after that this problem is corrected.  Thank you

If you want Office 2007 updates to appear in the installed updates again, you would need to uninstall/reinstall Office 2007 and install all the updates again.

Assuming that Office 2007 is installed & working properly and no update is offered when you run a manual check for updates now, you might want to leave enough alone (that is, do nothing) - then see if the 2 updates for Office 2007 SP3 be released next Tuesday (a) receive, (b) successfully install and (c) are listed in the installed updates later.

PS: The possible causes of the problem are messing with registry cleaners, messing around with the Software Distribution folder, and the fact that it was a computer refurbished when you bought it.

1 disconnect from the internet and then try and install updates.

    2. If no joy: -.

Try to manually download the same and install.
You can search the individual updates here:

If this still creates a problem, disconnect from the internet and then try to install updates, and another thing you can try is turn off UAC before downloading a first update manually. See: (Guided Help: settings to adjust user account control in Windows 7):

  • Windows Update fails continually after February 9 release of updates being installed

I read a ridiculous amount of discussion regarding the 9 February/10 updates to update Windows causing errors, but I have not found a solution to my problem yet. I have Vista 32 bit home Premium SP2. Dell XPS M1330. Core2Duo 2.4 GHz. 4 GB OF RAM.
I'm not new to pc errors, especially dealing with Windows Update, but still, I got error Code 80070005. After installing the infamous February 9 updates, Windows Update indicates an error continually and says he cannot get update. Several times I restored my computer back a few days before these updates in question, and all is well. I let it sit for a few days hoping Microsoft would remove updates, and I've even noticed that the update reading 'pending' - which, after reading several threads told to leave this update turned off that it was probably the update of 'problem '. Well regardless, I installed the rest updates, with the exception of this one, and I still get the same error again. I don't understand why Windows just will not remove 'defective' updates if they are constantly problems. In the meantime, does anyone know a fix for this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Windows Update keeps telling me to install KB977165 even after 9 installs

    Hello

I tried to obtain this update to install on my computer laptop windows vista without success.  In the history of the update it says that the update has been installed successfully many times, however, whenever the restart of the computer, the windows update appears the taskbar saying me that an important update is available.  I tried the manual solutions posted in other threads that are running the microsoft fixit to determine if the computer is compatible (the tool says that my computer is compatible with the update) and then run the fixit tool to delete the update history and others and tried to manually install the update in safe mode and normal mode.  This update is vital or should I just put on the list of exclusions?  Any assistance would greatly be appreciated on this topic.

OK, first of all thanks for the quick responses.  I tried all the option listed in the post of MowGreen foregoing everything first without success.  Struck dead update continues to appear as needing to be installed.  Then, I went to the advice of the PA bear and at least now the update is not constantly ask to be installed.  The update continues to display in the window programs and features, such as an installed update, and it shows no longer update Windows it must be installed once more.  Thanks for the help!

It is up to you to verify the file Versions to ensure that the update is installed correctly, Feebler. Not too simple that it once was due to the Service Pack level possible that Vista can now be on. Simply because only such watch that installed upgrading does not necessarily mean that it has installed the 2 files containing the update. In plain language, the vulnerabilities that the update addresses can still be present on your computer.

The Service Pack level information is also on the system information page in Control Panel or, if you could click the start ORB, click Run, and then type
    winver
    Click OK or press ENTER.

The article on KB977165 shows the different Versions of the 2 files that should be present, according to which the Service Pack is installed.
The files are Ntoskrnl.exe and Ntkrnlpa.exe.  If no patches have been installed (you must apply patches, they are usually not updated), access to the services of the GDR branch which is planned for the concerned product of Vista.
If Vista is on SP1, Versions will start with 6.0.6001 . 18 xxx
Vista SP2 Versions will begin with 6.0.6002 . 18 xxx

Search for files which are in Windows\system32, then click on them, right click Properties, then click the Details tab to see which file Version they are.
