Windows Vista Menu scrolling Problems__

When I click on a menu and try to scroll, the menu scrolls vertically all the elements and continues until I click elsewhere. I can't select the menu item, I need, whether to save a file type or by selecting a font. Help!

Problem solved... it was the wireless mouse I was using.  I disconnected and used the touchpad on my laptop and no problems with scrolling.  Hooray!

    Hi Ashish,

    Thanks for responding.

Problem solved, or not!  Hard drive is damaged.  As a result of tests with checkdisk and knowing that he is not really do a thorough job.  I checked the hard drive once more with 'SeaTools' of Seagate.

The hard drive is riddled with bad sectors.  Filed in support of Service today and they confirmed the hard drive is faulty and they will replace it under warranty.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question in the first place.

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

  • I got this laptop from a friend today and the windows vista program must be a trial version. I have xp to install but I can not even a start even menu display. __

I have windows xp to install on the pc, but the program windows vista here is a trial version and it is out of time. I can't even start to show even a menu. I try Ctrl-alt-del and it does nothing. Please help me I don't know what to do. I want to install windows xp on here and get rid of this vista trial.

If you already have the Windows XP disc:

    • Insert the Windows XP disk into the CD/DVD drive
    • Completely turn off the power - the power supply light should be off, without blinking.
    • Turn on the computer and be careful. When it says «Press any key to boot from CD...» "Press a key on your keyboard, the Windows XP Setup program is now charging.
  • During an update to Windows Vista, my office has disappeared with the task bar and start menu.

I can only access my and other programs through the Task Manager.  I have tried troubleshooting, I restore my computer on the eve of what has happened, but nothing helps.  Any ideas?

    Hi cthodges

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

I would like to ask you a few questions to help focus in the right direction:

Are there other specific details that you can provide that will help us understand and solve your problem?

We can try a few steps and check if it works:

Run explorer.exe from the Task Manager > new > task. If the start menu reappears, it would confirm the cause.

We can now perform the following steps:

    Step 1:

Run an on-line analysis of your PC of malicious software:

If you want to scan your computer for malware and potentially unwanted on a Web site, please use the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.

Windows Live OneCare safety scanner is an online service that lets scan you your computer to protect yourself, clean and operate at its best. Use our free protection scan to check and remove viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software and to find vulnerabilities in your Internet connection.

You can also run Anti-Malware on your computer. Follow the steps in this link:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4D71-960f-b561798b7b42

    Step 2:

To use a boot option, follow these steps:

    a. restart your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.

    b. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and press ENTER.

    c. when the boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in the bottom, select the installation that you want to start and then press ENTER.

If it works fine in safe mode, infer you that all third-party programs are causing the problem.

Put the computer in a clean boot (namely if any third-party software hinders the process)

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Check with step 1 (run a clean boot):-If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

(Note: after find you the problem causing the program, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program and also don't forget to put the computer to a normal startup)

    S tep 3 :

The SFC utility allows administrators to perform an analysis of all protected resources to make sure they are the correct version. Whether SFC should find all incorrect versions in one of these protected resources, SFC will be replaced by the correct versions.

You can still run a sfc on the windows vista computer scan. To run a scan suite sfc as follows:

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. at the command prompt type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

  • Windows Vista how can I get to the bottom of the start menu?

I have a problem, "Start menu" I like there to the top instead of the bottom in windows vista. I don't know how to take it down. If any of you guyz has an idea, please report it here.

    Hello

I guess your taskbar is on the top of the screen instead of the bottom? If that's what you hear, right-click the taskbar and select "lock the tasbar" to unlock it (if it is not already unlocked). To check f it is locked, there will be a checkbox next to "lock the taskbar". If there is no check box, it is already unlocked.

Once unlocked, just drag the taskbar to its current position to the bottom of the screen where you normally and then lock the taskbar.

I've recently been tweaking and accidentally got rid of my explorer.exe file, (I think that I sent to my trash and maybe deleted it?). Once I realized that I just typed as a new task and it reappeared.  The problem I have is that since then I had no toolbar or start menu.  I tried to access it through the control panel that does not work; I tried Ctrl Esc, which does not work, I tried everything I can think of?
