WMP 12 won't 'play' SAMI files (subtitles)

I used a lot of WMP 9 control embedded in html pages for playback of audio and video files with subtitles in smi file. In Win XP that everything works well, with early problem Vista and now Windows 7 and WMP 12 I can play only mid (karaoke) for the types of audio files and avi for video files (with VobSub filter installed) types. Even with the video in WMV, WMP 12 won't coded subtitles, but when I convert same video in WMP 12 avi format will see the good subtitles smi file (because of DirectShow filter), is the filter CC of Microsoft or something else that will allow WMP 12 Show subtitles during video playback in the format wmv or mp4. Same thing for audio. If the midi playback (mid or kar extension) it be CC (in the karaoke style), but if the audio is in mp3 WAV reformatted then nothing.

I have to admit, it works. But what a waste. Microsoft has changed the way that parser for smi files works and coused promblems. I used the syntax 'by the book' WMP 9 (2004.y.) and the files mid is always the same, but for mp3, wav, wmv, wma, that I have to change some things in smi (SAMI Cloed Caption file) and now it works as what should be. Like this:

Style secttion, I have:

. ENUSCC {Name: "English subtitles" lang: en-US;} SAMIType:CC ;}

should be

. ENUSCC {name: Legends; lang: en-US ;}}

in the Style section, I have a comment line:

/ * P defines the selector base style for the text of paragraph captioning * /.

and I have to remove this comment, what a strange thing to do to make this work?

I lose the second line of the text because I have "font color" tags it and
tag does not now, but if I reformat the second line, then it works.

Never mind, it took me almost a year to resolve this problem.

I tried a solution I found here on the resolution of the WMP settings through the windows and that has not worked.

  • WMP 12 won't play mp3

    Hi tom,

Thanks for using the Community Forums of Microsoft for Vista.

Normally, something like that, the problem is resolved by downloading and reinstalling the latest MS codec packs.

In this case, however, I think the problem is conflicting codec installations.

I think you should start by restoring the system running and to cancel most of the codec installations. Go back to the extent that is reasonable and see if that helps.

If not, then download the latest codec for your multimedia player by Microsoft and see if that does the trick.

I think that will do, let us know whether.

  • Windows 7 WMP 12 a .asx file won't play audio stream

I see this problem anywhere on the Internet but no solutions. On my Windows 7 machine, I want to read a file .asx on a particular web site that plays very well on my XP machine. But in Windows 7 (64-bit), I get the error C00D11B1. The .asx file points to a .wma file when I look inside.  My 12 WMP plays .wma files perfectly straight when not redirected through a .asx file. The file in question is a non-protected streaming file (no download).  I ran sfc/scannow and it found nothing abnormal.  I tried playing the file with Real Player but still not the same error of Windows Media Player. Any ideas appreciated.

Windows Media Player won't play the .zip files. How to see or play these files? I'm 67 and not tech savvy thanks for the help.

    Hello

ZIP files are compressed, so you need to unzip and then play the content if the
content is of type WMP files.

Compress and uncompress files (zip files)

  • Use WMP to play audio files of older games triggers the Crash game

I have a game more Microsoft called Age of Empires. The game has some cool sound effects, I went into the game directory and played some of the sounds with Windows Media Player. Now when I try to play the game, it crashes when these sounds are triggered.

I learned that WMP adds a kind of coding for audio files when he plays, and that older games such as Age of Empires do not include this extra info so when the game tries to play the sounds, it crashes.

I tried to uninstall the game completely and put it back and even delete audio files and their replacement, but he did not set. It is only the sounds that I played on WMP that cause the game to Crash, all the sounds I was not playing on WMP still work fine.

Can you please tell me how to resolve this.

    Hi Halima,

Thanks for your reply. I managed to solve the problem in a different way. I open each file with a program (I use Adobe Audition) for audio editing, you click Save under and saved all of the audio files as new mp3 files, crushing & replace the original files. I did it in bulk by opening all the audio files at the same time and choosing "save all".

This seems to have removed the additional coding added to audio files in Windows Media Player and the game can play these audio files when triggered.

That said, I do not understand why crushing & replacing the mp3 files fixed the issue so that the uninstall & reinstall the game does not - this method of relocation removed all files of game (including all audio files) and replace them with the original from disk files, but still they cannot be triggered by the game. Maybe the computer recognized them somehow as the same files that WMP had altered and automatically change them again. Very strange.

    Thank you

    David

  • When you try to play .mp4 files in WMP, I hear the sound but the picture is distorted and I can't see the photo in Windows Media Player.

    * Original title: Windows Media PLayer

I have Windows Media Player version 12 installed but when you try to play .mp4 files in WMP, I hear the sound but the picture is distorted and I can't see the picture.  Please see image attached.

Even if I see that I can change the version of the file in a different format, I have the same problem with videos on websites that I can not of course change the format before playing these.

I managed to fix the problem for about 20 minutes by flattening my computer re - install the operating system and this resolved until all updates have been through, and then it disappeared again.  I tried many codecs packs and this still does not help.

My system is running Windows 7 and Media Player version is 12.0.7601.18840, which tells me that Media Player is the most recent version.

    Please can someone help?

Open uninstall a program in windows and in the left click on the feature to turn on or off windows. Clear the check box of the window Media Player, and then click ok. This will uninstall the drive, and then restart.

After restarting the same steps, now, check the box for the same and perform a restart and if all goes well it should solve the problem.

Note: Make sure that Windows is up-to-date.

  • Using WMP to play .bup files fails now, but worked 10 minutes ago!

    Ok.

I have dl'ed a video file over containing a lot of extensions that I wasn't aware of at the time. One of them was a .bup

I opened it with Windows Media Player, just for fun, and low and behold, WMP played! I could not believe. I was excited. Video files worked perfectly.

Then, 10-20 minutes. later, when I tried to open the exact same files with WMP, I got an error message that basically says, 'sorry, WMP does not support this file type. Sorry ' end your bad luck. Try asking the help of the Web. »

WTF happened? I can solve this problem? I like a lot (perhaps to my detriment) using WMP and do not want to dl a different media player, but I will if I have to. (You hear that, Microsoft?) I'll do it! I'm crazy!).  Thanks in advance for the help, yall!

It's really weird, but I managed to get my files to work on WMP.

Of course, if I try to open them through Windows Explorer window, will not work on WMP. However, if I open WMP, then go through the menu and tell him to open the file, it works like a charm. Crazy.

Anyway, if you have this problem, just try what I did and see if it works for you. If this isn't the case, I would try a dl to a different media player. VLC is supposed to be a good, and you can find it here

  • Subscription files Rhapsody WMA will not play in WMP 12, although it plays in Rhapsody and Winamp

On Windows 7 when I save a file subscription WMA of the Rhapsody and then try to play using Windows Media Player 12, WMP appears an error dialog box that says: 'Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while playing the file.'.  If I open the file using the Rhapsody Player he plays very well (not), and I am also able to play the file using Winamp successfully.

Why Windows Media Player does not report an error?  Is there a way I can get back to play Rhapsody subscription WMA tracks using Windows Media Player?

    Hi Gregory,

According to Rhapsody songs as part of a subscription service and are expected to play by using the Rhapsody desktop application.  You may need to purchase the MP3 version of the files to read the files in Media Player.

You can access the link below for more information on the same.
