WRT160N very slow wifi compare to wired

Hey guys thanks for the help on this one.

The answer could be as simple as: get a new router. but lets give it a try. I have read many many post about how to optimize the speed of the router, but none has worked so far.

I had a large wired Internet connection that strikes between 45 and 60 MB/s

http://www.Speedtest.net/result/2029093668.PNG

wifi is crazy slow on Macbook pro, Iphone and iPad stay between 3 and 8 Mbps...

I tried to change all of the specs, did the firmware update...

is there a configuration perfect with the new firmware?

Let me know because now, I am naïve and I can't find anything else on the web

See you soon

Jeff

You try the following settings:

# Open the browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 which will open the gateway configuration page.

# Bring back the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) of 1500 to 1400 or less (usually located on your main configuration page / database routers). Here is the link to determine and implement the right size MTU: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re...

# Make that channel 1, 3, 6, 9, 11...

Settings wireless #Adjust the following:

~ ~ Reduced from 100 to 75 beacon interval

~ ~ Lower the threshold of fragmentation of 2346 to 2306

~ ~ Lower 2347 to 2307 RTS threshold

Then check the status of the connectivity.

For about a month now, our wi - fi is very slow and make it worse. We noticed it on our iPhones and iPads in particular. I use an Apple's Time Capsule airport for my network and we have internet optical fiber to 100 MB, so not needed or used modem. Wired devices are as fast as lightning, but wi - fi is now almost unusable. Xfinity speed test shows the download speeds of 200 MBS on the wired devices.

I rebooted my router Airport and no change. I use also 3 extensions Apple Airport.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Try to restore your device to factory settings. Take a look this Apple Support article:use iTunes to restore the iPhone, iPad or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

If this is not enough, try recovery mode. Turn off your idevice to reset and then connect it to your computer with the hold home button. Hold down Home button until you see the logo on the screen of your iPhone iTunes. After that on your computer, you should see the iTunes window saying that your iPhone needs to be restored to factory settings. Click Restore.

Try to experiment changing channels. Test if it makes a difference. He could have raised there interference from other wireless devices in your home or in the region.

  • WNDR3700 very slow wifi

Seems all of a sudden that my wireless is slow and weak.

I get download speeds of 60 Mbit/s connected to the desktop via the router, but only about 10 with wifi. Router is 2pi away.

I looked in the settings and tried a few things but no help at all. Hope someone has some ideas, thanks

I did download speed tests using residential Road Runners speed test. Only 10 Mbps over 60 wired wireless

This is a problem that happens all of a sudden.

Did a reset and still poor wireless network. Tried to change channels once or twice as suggested on various sites. No effect at all. Cell phones would connect only barely 3 ft away from the modem. I think it is just wore out

Purchased a new WNDR4300 and works perfectly out of the box

  • Yoga 2 Pro - very slow Wifi, ~0.74Mbps - 3Mbps

Hi, I've had my Yoga 2 Pro for a few weeks now and I thought it was my imagination until I decided to perform a speed test. The wifi on the laptop is really slow. Run the speed test (speedtest.net) on my desk I have 17.5Mbps, while on my yoga 2 pro I get various ones between 0.75 and 3Mbps.

It would have taken me well over an hour to download the latest drivers wifi. Instead, I downloaded on my desktop and put on my laptop HARD drive.

Whatever it is, the latest drivers did not fix the problem of slowness, I have tried many "patches" on the thread on the wifi of a fall, and performance, but unfortunately nothing worked.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? I'm bordering on his return it if I can't get it resolved soon.

Don't you hate it when you manage to solve a problemn moments after you ask for help?

I now have my speed test 2 of Yoga Pro 17Mbps.

I installed and used wifi Intel connections Manager is opposite to the windows one.

    That's all...

    Hope this helps someone else!

  • New HP Envy M6 only detect ethernet cable, very slow wifi

    Hello

Sometimes, the wifi, I get 1mpbs on a 50mpps connection. I'll upload to 5 Mbps, which is normal (but why are my download speeds so slow?) Laptops and other devices work perfectly. Closer to my wireless router (well it's not a router, it is a TG862 of Arris Comcast) seems to alleviate the problem, but... I am no farther than 25 feet away from him in my room!

I tried to solve this problem by updating the BIOS and the driver Qualcomm Atheros 9485 and apparently not helped at all.

My concern REALLY, it's THAT EVERYTHING, nothing happens when I plug my ethernet cable into the left side of my laptop. It is in the correct port. It works fine in my xbox, my other laptop and my desktop computer. Other ethernet cables do not work or the other. I noticed there are two holes (which resemble lights) that don't light up, right where I plug the Ethernet cable.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03363657

I followed these instructions piece by piece without success.

Should I have a burst network card? Help, please! This notebook is so new and brilliant, my other is old and destroyed and won't even take a load! I greatly appreciate it.

    Michael Siraco

    Hello Dollarsignrack,

You have a problem with your network connection.

It could be a defective material you may be substituted.

    First, turn off the computer.
That you put it on press the F10 key. This will load the BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load the default values.
Press F10 to save and exit.

This should help to detect the Ethernet port.
When the computer starts up, check if everything is working.

If it is still slow to go to HP.com and update the BIOS and software framework.

Here are links to the updates.

If you do not need to have the unit repaired.

Here is a link to the phone number that you can call to HP.

I would like to know how everything goes.

    Nice day.

  • Very slow WiFi on EA6350

I bought an EA6350. I have a NetGear N300 and a N600 wired in repeaters through a NetGear 10/100 switch which is executed at the local network on the EA6350. (Don't ask why). My desktop PC and Vonage, HP printer connect to the other three LAN on the EA6350. Toshiba backup on USB, works very well. BUT, why in the heck the N600 show speedtests wireless on my laptop HP at or near side comcast speed (20 / 5 Mbps) and the EA6350 can not even my laptop above 1 Mbit/s upload or download wireless. Something is not good. EA6350 signal is the strongest of the three (by WifiInfoView). It is has nothing else connected wireless to the EA6350 during speedtest. Thoughts?

After grousing and complaining about the Linksys instructions to reflash my router, I finally did. At this point, I would say that it runs as I would have liked. Not sure why when buy a unit renovated factory he would not have had the latest firmware, but it is now and all is well. Thank you linksys.

  • Good signal, very slow WiFi

    Hi all

I have a problem with Inspiron 530 my son running Vista.  This happened with the adapter from Dell/Broadcom 802.11 wireless g, and provided by a router Dell 802.11 g D Link DI-524.  The router is connected to a modem cable of 4 MB/s.  Initially this worked fine, but now the Inspiron always gets a network connection, and even if Windows describes the intensity of the signal as "very good", he reached only the speed of modem about 14 400 (don't forget to them?).  The Dell Support Center reports that it cannot even detect a network connection, although if I wait long enough browser finally displays the content.  The network is configured using the WEP encryption.

The router is also used with a wired connection to my Dimension 9200 (with it at the moment) and works smoothly and fast, so there is no problem of cable modem.  Two laptops domestic, both to connect quickly and completely wireless speed, so I know the wireless router can work OK.  As my son machine is only about eight feet between the router and laptop computers work fine longer distances, I guess that there is no interference problems, and the signal strength is good throughout the House.

The Inspiron running antivirus software, I did a full scan for malware and found nothing (at least my son is only 8 and not in garbage from the internet, download adds that he has access 'user').  A look in the Task Manager shows very low CPU usage when you run a browser (as you know) but very low use of wireless - around 1%.

Restart the Inspiron didn't help, nor has full powerdown of routers and modems.  I tried upgrading the firmware on the router, without obvious success, and I don't see anything obvious in the Broadcom card settings.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Led

  • Satellite Pro P300 - very slow WiFi connection

Toshibe Satellite Pro P300 with built in the Atheros AR9281 wireless.

    Running Windows 7.

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

    BIOS 2.5

All the latest versions of the drivers installed including the driver Atheros 8.0.0.225.0 wireless.

    Wireless is annoying...

Sometimes fails to find the router (Belkin 54g, connected to the Modem cable Motorola (Virgin B/B is the access provider, 10 Mbps)).

When he finds, connects ok, but sometimes it is impossible to browse web pages - just behave as if there is no connection.

Bit torrent works also very slowly (in general 0.5Mbit / s depending on the number of peers etc.). Not a port forwarding issue with the router - using utorrent that indicates that the relevant port is open.

When I connect to the router with an ethernet cable, everything works a treat - much faster and rock solid connection. uTorrent has no hit 10Mbit/s problem at all.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you very much...

    Alan.

    Hello

You should first check if your BIOS is up to date.
If an older version of BIOS is installed then you could update the BIOS.

It is also advisable to update the installed WLan driver.
Here, you can check the available WLan drivers:

  • Satellite L300 has very slow wifi

I have a connection speed of 68mpbs and speeds of the following on the these currencies:

    Dell: 15mbps
    HTC Desire: 5mbps
    PS3: 20mbps

But on my Satellite L300 I get 1.2mbps.
It is using vista and has a realtek wireless card driver update. I have the computer next to the router.

Please can someone tell me why this is so poor.

There could be different reasons for this:
    -Old WLan driver
-For WLan of energy economy can be activated.

Have you tried to update the WLan card driver?
Have you checked if power save for WLan is assigned to the performance?
This is possible in the Windows 7 power management

  • Satellite C50D-A-134 - very slow internet connection

    Hello
    In may, I bought a Saturday C50D-A-134.

From the very beginning. The internet speed is very slow - Wifi or cable.

    That's what I did:

Installed the latest drivers (LAN and Wifi)
    Installed latest Bios Update

Contact internet provider: everything is checked - no problem of provider. (my other laptop on the same network speed gets speeds up to 10 times faster. So it really isn't a provider problem.

There is no adware installed - it is not a problem of viruses (checked with several programs avast - malwarebytes etc.)

    Can someone help me

The laptop seems to be equipped with 10/100 (10 Mbits / 100Mbit) Base-TX Ethernet LAN module. T
It modulates Atheros WB335 WLan supports standards 802.11 b/g/n and supports 150Mbps.

So for me the hardware configuration seems good and to be honest I don't think that there is a hardware / driver problem

As you have pointed out the similar problem with both modules (WLAN and LAN) I recommend you to reset the router even if other devices are not affected.

By the way: what do you exactly mean by slow?
Can you give us a few values?

  • Download speed very slow on the wired Ethernet connection

I am currently getting 200 Mbps down and 0.3 MB/s on my desk wired Ethernet connection. I should get 200 down and 20 upwards.

    • On my wireless adapter on the same router, I have ~ 18 Mbit/s to the top and about 15 Mbit/s down, which seems that the wireless adapter works fine.
    • I plugged in another computer with the same cable on the same router port and got the full speed (200/20), then the problem lies within my computer.
    • I made a transfer of files to and from my computer to another computer connected to the same router and I got the full speed Gigabit times come and go.

I searched high and wide on the internet and forums, and that many people have had the same problem I have, nothing of the multitude of solutions worked for me.

That's what I tried without success:

    • Uninstalled the Ethernet card, deleted the drivers, forcing the new drivers to install again. No change of speed.
    • Carefully checked for Virus and malware programs (crossed the registry as well), but found nothing, and nothing has been installed recently other than windows updates.
    • The only antivirus I have is Windows Defender. I turned off and turned off the Windows Firewall, but speed did not improve.
    • I tried with IE, Chrome and Firefox, speed with different services and all tests show similar speeds. I also used FTP to a server I have, and the speeds were the same.
    • There is no other traffic devours bandwidth.

So what I have gathered so far, it's that my Ethernet card works very slow only when downloading from the internet. Within my network, it works fine.

What is a service that does not work well? If so who? I am not knowledgeable on the use of all services. I checked IPv4 and IPv6 and they both seem to be configured correctly, but I can't say that I am certain of what "correctly configured" is.

    These are my specs:

    HP Desktop H9 - 1215t

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

    32 GB OF RAM

    64 bit

    Chip Intel i7-3770

Controller Atheros AR8161/8165 PCI - E Gigabit Ethernet (NDIS 6.20)

I would really appreciate some help here because this problem I'm paralyzed.

    Thank you for your time,

    Tom

    By George, you got it!

For someone who thinks he's good at Googling, I could sure use some improvements!

The key has been the link to explanation. While I had been close to my tests, this for shows that even when you sort-of-one little-peut-be-think you know what you're doing to keep your legs unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing.

The answer was definitely Large Send Offload, but it was a little more complicated, at least to understand what really happened. Neutralization of him gave the tour, but now I work with an active v2 and it works like a charm.

I will detail what, in my opinion, happened here for those who may have similar problems so that they (you) may be able to figure out, as all cards are different and may require slightly different settings.

I live in an area where so far the download speed over fast, I was able to get is 2 Mbps, on a good day, it's usually on average 1 ~ 1.5 Mbps. download speed is between 5 ~ 20 Mbit/s.

I do a lot of video work and I constantly have to download large files on my servers. I got the computer described above about 8 months ago, and my Age (2 years) one remained on my home network.

For a week or two, I was cursing my ISP because the internet was slower than usual and very glitch. I tested my speed and got 20 down and 0.2, repeatedly. So I went through the long and technology-challenged call representative to 'help' me, I was paying for 20/2. Only option was to wait a week for a technician to come out of my house, he stressed have shot my injurybut not before you ask me, that there are faster speeds to internet available in my place. 200/20 which is 10 times what I had, so of course I went with her. In doing so the representative asked me to Exchange my modem/router for a new handle faster speeds.

When I replaced the modem/router, I found that the download speed went from 50/0.2 (after the new request speed but still with the old router) to 200/0.3~0.5 with the new router. I also had a Cisco E2000 router that I turned into a switch, which was also bogged down internet high speed (now that they have been much faster). But still the download speed has not really improved.

This long and winding history is so that you (read this with a similar problem) might find the answer to your particular problem.

Looking back when I said that the issue was in my computer because that became high speed was not quite accurate. The 'problem' was beyond my router, if the solution was in my settings with the LSO parameter. The 'problem' was not really a problem since what I see (guess) that's happened is that my ISP has been updated with equipment, and the settings on my new pc has become a problem while paradoxically not so in my old pc.

My old pc equipped with a "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and the IPv4 LSO parameter turned on, that she was no problem under the new set of circumstances ISP. 200 / 20 Mbit/s.

Then when I compared the setting on my new computer, it never crossed my mind that the neutralization of him would solve the problem.

My new pc has a Atheros AR8161/8165 controller PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet (NDIS 6.20). This adapter has a setting "IPv4 LSO" more setting "IPv4 LSO v2" and "IPv6 LSO v2" décor. I don't think that my ISP uses IPv6.

In my quest to solve the problem, I placed all of the above settings to "Enabled", without success and in my fog don't reverse these settings.

With the 3 off, it worked fine, but I got a 5 ~ 10% improvement on the download speed with the LSO IPv4 v2 enabled and the other disabled.

There is no way representing the service provider on the phone could know this, so calling them would not / has not solved the problem. Even waiting a week for the technician most likely would not have solved the problem as it would be measured using a laptop full download and the download speeds.

I'm sure this will become a problem most current internet speeds that House are starting to soar (thanks Google!), so I hope this helps those who have similar problems.

    To summarize:

Click on start->Control Panel->Device Manager->network adapters-> your adapter name (mine is Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI - E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20), right click and select Properties. On the advance tab, find good Large Send Offload (IPv4) and change its value to disabled , and then click on OK.

If you have a Large Send Offload (IPv4) v2 try to set that to enable (with either a handicapped of course).

    I hope this helps!

    And thank you George.
