WRT54G drops internet intermittently.

My Linksys router WRT54G has recently (yesterday) begins to the internet after having been online for a few hours.

The current configuration is in place for several years.  I started with the broadband provider and they checked the signal and cable modem works properly.  My own tests back this up.

At first, I just reset the router.  It disconnected for 30 seconds and is plugged in.  Internet is back.  Then I tried to reset the router and the modem cable.  It also works well but the problem presists.  Reset the router itself has the same effect.

So something with the router is the cause of dropping the internet.  The network does not go down however.  I can still use my network drive and the computers indicate a network without internet connection.  This is true for the PC wired as well as those who use a wireless connection.

Check if the router is on the latest firmware, if not to update.  Once upgraded to hard reset the router by holding the button of reset in the back for 30 seconds then release. Wait 10 seconds and cycle power to the router.  Reconnect via wired computer and go to 192.168.1.1 and reconfigure the router from scratch.  Try now.

  • Signal strong wifi X220t Centrino Advanced-N, intermittently, dropping internet

My problem is different from those who have difficulties to internet connection in tablet mode.

Maintain a continuous and strong/full wifi signal, I lose internet access intermittently.  It makes no difference if the unit is used in laptop mode or tablet. If I reset the wireless adapter, I stay connected to the internet for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour or two.  The wireless signal is always at full power, and the distance between the router makes no difference.  Sometimes the Internet returns and plunges again, however, I usually run the Troubleshoot utility to reset the connection.  Diagnostic/troubleshooting of windows running resets the adapter and returns the message: "the connection between your access point, router and Internet is broken" and "the default gateway is not available", but only temporarily solve the problem.  We have two other laptops in the household who are unaware of connection difficulties.

So far I reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site and have set power options for maximum performance for the wireless adapter.  This is a brand new unit used for a few days and has had the problem since I have it unboxed.

Resolved - seems to have been a problem with my router, which unfortunately is a model of Netgear wireless-N - ish.  Switched on to another router and it seems to work fine now.

  • The misfortunes of WRT610N - signal high but dropping internet

So I got a WRT610N since June 2011 - works perfectly without having to think about, I just hooked it up and it has been on the default settings and never gave us any problems.

About a week ago the power went out - and it caused the router to reset to the factory settings. I've put up with our network name and the security and don't think much. After that, we started to notice questions on our phones and laptop in the kitchen.

I work in the same room as the router, wifi and did not have the signal drop once since then--my work laptop is about 3-4 feet from the router. Another PC through the router works fine

Continuously on the strip of the 5 GHz for tv, a room, works perfectly, like netflix, youtube, etc on the TV.

Once you get to the kitchen, on the laptop there (which has been there for months without problem), wifi is completely laminated. This is maybe the router through only 1 wall of 40 feet. The signal of 3 to 4 bars and windows reports still says 'internet access' for the State of the connection, but the connection drops on a regular basis, and you must manually disconnect and reconnect to the wifi to restore internet access. It of the same story with the phones if you are more that about 20 feet from the router - they have a strong signal, but will be lowered on a regular basis, requiring you to disconnect and reconnect. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands seem to be behaving in the same way.

Normally, I would say that the power outage fried the right thing and get a new one - but he is works perfectly at short range and still give a strong signal to longer-range - juggling just not the internet.

I factory reset it several times since it began. I tried different settings on both bands, different security, no security, etc. But nothing seems to help, that's why I post here - help!

    Thank you for reading.

Try to reset to the factory settings and then update the firmware. After the update of the firmware, a 30-30-30 reset hard and then reconfigure the linksys from scratch.

InSSIDer allows to find the best channel. And try to use 20 MHz only for the width of the channel.

If by chance your modem is a router too (for example. "You have DSL), try to change the local IP address of the linksys 192.168.2.1.

  • Weird WRT54G, DDNS, internet connectivity problem

The other day, we lost power at home (my cable modem and the router are not on a UPS system - they will be soon). The problems started shortly after that (it cannot be a coincidence, but I'm puzzled by the way in which they are involved). After having everything turned on, we could no longer connect to the internet from any machine on the network. When I checked the WRT54G, however, I found that it was connected to the outside world and that she had a valid IP address from my ISP. Poking around outside my network (at work, for example) showed me that if I try to connect to my web server, I on the contrary am routed to router setup page (I have config remote power off and on port forwarding, and it worked without problem in the past).
Further investigation showed that my DDNS (TZO.com) service did not work (the error message is 'Connect to server fail'). I checked with TZO and they don't see a problem on their side.

Any ideas for further investigation? I'm stumped at this point. I would almost say that the problem of fried power the router, but if it did, it seems to be a terribly selective frying. Thanks in advance and please let me know if more information is needed to help.

    My configuration:
Modem-cable Time Warner Roadrunner (not sure of the type/model)
    Router Linksys WRT54G, firmware 4.21.1
    TZO.com DDNS service

Well try upgrading the firmware on the router & keep holding firmly the reset button with power light flashing on the router & then make a complete network power cycle that is, unplug the power to the modem & router cables & then plug the power to the modem cable first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check-out it will certainly work!

    Hello

Recently, my HP Envy M6 has been intermittently lose internet during the execution of battery - it's always nice when it's plugged in, however. I ran the diagnostics manual wifi and nothing is not detected.  Any ideas?

I am running windows 8.1and model number model is: E0R92EA #ABU

    Thank you

    Brian

    Brian,

This could be a setting in your profile (or power saving wireless mode) power setting?

I had problems where an update (from HP, not Windows) changed (my) default settings for power profiles.

Can you restore back a few days or a date prior to the problem? This would test if the a software update changed something...

    Kind regards

  • HP6600 drops internet connection, can't print wireless

My 6600 seems to drop our wifi signal every few minutes.  I can not connect to the printer from any device without wire (iMac, HP desktop or laptop).  I tried the unplug reset twice and entered manually our wifi information.  Any advice on how to improve our connection?

  • EX7300 drops internet connectivity

    Hello

so I bought myself an EX7300. Manual configuration went all well.

My problem is, that, although Windows indicates that it has access to the internet and the wireless signal is at the highest level, my internet connection is lost every few minutes. I have to toggle the WIFI connection to regain access to the internet, but once again, it's just for a short period.

When you perform a repair of Windows, the message is: Windows cannot communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server) [main DNS server is 192.168.0.1]

The Extender has a static IP address which is 192.168.0.50, but gives the router a DHCP IP which is 192.168.0.106.

    Firmware is the newest: 1.0.0.44

It's really annoying and restores the Extender completely useless.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    NX

I think I solved the problem by giving the router a channel fixed wLAN (48) and the Repeater another (40). Have not had this problem since.

The ISP modem /router must be placed in bridge mode OR change the r6400 for AP Mode

I have tried eaves values MTU of switching given that others had found that fixed things for them and just changed PPPoA to PPPoE encapsulation without success.

I do not use the latest firmware (given that the update of my old router Netgera bricks it!), but downloaded it read to install manually the next step.

    any help please?

    V1.0.0.18_1.0.1 firmware version
    ISP: BT

Basically, I discovered the following of my ISP:
The initial problem was the result of a failure of the infrastructure - they replaced a wiring for my property
The subsequent recurrence of symptoms has coincided with the upgrade of their Exchange works - they do not alert me of the upgrade until it was completed.

Since then, the connection remained constant and reliable while being 4 times faster than originally.

So, I think that the question is entirely the fault of my ISP.

    Hi David_Campbell5,

    1. you receive an error message or error code?

    2. what service pack is installed on the computer?

3 did you changes to the computer before the show?

  • Gets the error - failed to connect to the internet intermittently in the Windows XP machine.

    Original title: intermittent connection problem.

I have intermittent connection problem - every few minutes says that it is impossible to connect, when I click on diagnose and then then the connection is re-established. This happens on a single PC - I have 3 on the network.

Maybe it's my imagination, but when I disable the 1394 adapter, it seems to be more reliable

I reinstalled the network driver, BIOS and chipset drivers (they were all out of date anyway)

My problem, which could be caused by Norton firewall? Is it likely to be hardware related software?

    Hi Mattsurf,

If the problem is not repeated in safe mode, there is probably a startup item or service is causing the problem. Follow the steps on the following link to locate the item or service responsible for the error:
